Quidditch is something that wasn't something to look forward to, Angelina would take every second of his practice to remind him to stop getting in trouble with Umbitch and actually spend time on the field instead of detention. It was amusing really, she acts like Harry actually wanted to be in detention. Detention was the worst. It just keeps getting worse after the first time. The pain of course is there, but the expression that Umbitch makes whenever it is particularly painful makes it tens of times bad. With each session, Harry could see that the words are getting deeper and that it is going to scar sooner or later.
Hiding it from Hermione and Ron was a nightmare. Harry just realized how physical both of his friends are. Though Harry thinks that Hermione could see through his mediocre glamour charm, she didn't say anything about it. But, whenever Ron or she would tug at his hand to get attention Harry would wince, not going unnoticed by the brightest witch of her age.
Right now, on his rarest days without detention with the Umbitch, Harry was waiting in the library for his friend Luna to come.
While everyone, even his own friends, acted differently around him, Luna became a constant in his life.
Luna was there with her eccentric way. Always speaking in riddles and basing her opinion on what she thought rather than the people around her.
Though many people would question his sanity, Harry would have the habit of confiding in Luna before doing something drastic, and valued her opinion on things knowing that her knowledge would always remain pure.
Luna was never one to be late. Sure she always set up odd times to meet such as 12:42, or 8:12, but she would always be there on time sharply. So it was weird that the time was 5:38 when Luna insisted that they take a walk together to see the thestrals at 5:13.
Unwilling to succumb to the suspense, Harry grabbed a book to wait. Maybe Luna was late or she forgot.
After a few minutes, curiosity took over and Harry started to make his way to the Ravenclaw common room. The halls of Hogwarts always give a homely feeling, as Harry walks by swiftly and surly. Harry was about to drift off to dreamland when suddenly a voice brought him out of his thoughts.
¨Loony Lovegood and her Loony glasses. Oh, such an embarrassment to the house of Ravenclaw. Doing nonsense rituals and talking about non-existent creatures."
¨What was it? Nargles? Well, I heard that they eat people's brains, I guess you're in the clear Lovegood.¨
¨Oh but Nargles don´t eat brains, they feed of off the emotional radiation of one´s...¨
¨Do shut up Looney, it isn't going to help you get these books back.¨
Harry stared at the scene before him in shock. He knew that Luna wasn´t the most popular person, but people in her own house? Harry hid in an alcove opposite of the scene before him. Harry wanted to help, he really did, but he knew what it felt like when people come in and try to ´protect´ you, if it escalates, Harry wouldn't hesitate to hex their bollocks off. From the alcove, he could see Luna´s back and the Three boys in front of him, two of them are the Ravenclaw beaters, and the one on the left holding Luna´s books was a well-known Ravenclaw sixth year.
¨Lovegood, you´re no fun, let's take this to the next step.¨ one of the beaters, Dan, Harry recalled, was pulling out his wand. Surly Ravenclaws are supposed to be smart, aren't they? The real bullies are the Slytherins, the Ravenclaws willing to hurt their own?
Staring at the wand, Harry started pulling out his, no-one is going to hurt his dear eccentric friend Luna. When Harry was debating on going with a classic Expelliarmus or not, an additional voice made an appearance.
¨Seriously, this place is going to the dogs, no matter how much I lower my expectations, people manage to miraculously roll right under them.¨ Harry blinked, he knows that voice, that is the voice of Draco Malfoy. Draco Malfoy had been quiet this year, he still made comments about Harry but didn´t have full-on confrontations like all the other years. Harry doesn't know why, but the feeling that something is off about Draco Malfoy had always nagged him. But now, he sees nothing has changed, Draco forced these Ravenclaws to attack Luna, it all made sense now.
The classic Expelliarmus it is.
¨Oh must we have not reached your expectations, your highness? Want us to grovel at your feet? ¨ Ha! Proof, the Ravenclaws are following Malfoy´s orders. But as Malfoy took a protective stance in front of Luna, Harry was puzzled. From the back, Harry sees subtle differences in Malfoy since his fourth year. Harry finally hit his growth spurt and is at least a couple of inches taller than the blond git, not as tall as Ron though. Malfoy´s is slightly undercut to where you can´t see it, but the hairs from the top of his head slightly brush the nape of this neck, still gleaming snow blond, reflecting the sunlight filtered from the windows. His dramatic entrance could only rival Snape.
¨Oooooh if you run like your mouth, you would actually be in good shape, and that's saying something.¨ Okay, Malfoy seems to be on Luna´s side. Harry takes a deep breath. Okay, this isn't real, you are going to wake up in the library. Harry then pinched himself hard. ´Ouch´.
¨Ugh, you say idiotic things.¨ The sixth-year Raven says.
¨Of course, I do, how else would you understand?¨ Harry snorted, who knows how to insult people better than Malfoy?
The three Ravenclaws sputtered. Malfoy slowly stalked over to the sixth year and yanked the books out of his hand. Then he leaned really close. Harry´s not going to lie, it kind of looked hot. Despite Malfoy being younger, he sized up the senior, and in a low intimidating voice he said, ¨I would make a joke about your life, but I see life already beat me to it. Run. Along.¨ With that, the Ravenclaws fled leaving Luna smiling at an annoyed-looking Malfoy, and Harry still in the alcove.
¨And people say sixth and seventh years are supposed to be mature.¨ Malfoy says in a softer tone as he hands the books over to Luna. Malfoy did a little salute and sauntered away with his cloak fluttering behind him. Wow, dramatic entrance and exits. Harry finally emerged from his alcove.
"Luna… are you alright?" Luna, who was looking where Malfoy had left, slowly turned to face Harry. "Of course Harry, why don't we go and visit the Thestrals now!"
Luna and Harry made their way outside and down to the forest outskirts, ignoring the elephant in the room. Who would want to discuss the encounter with Draco Malfoy anyway? It's simply Unmentionable.
