Yoriko prided herself in being a tolerant and patient wife, however in certain situations she can't help herself questioning her husband's decisions and actions. Decisions and actions that, no matter how good the intentions, still had her developing a migraine within seconds.

It was a little after nine at night; she had had a full day of mommy daughter time with five-year-old Kimiko. She had just put her to bed and now she was lounging in her living room with her notebook that she occasionally wrote songs and poems in. Just before she put pen to paper, Rinaldo quietly opened the front door and walked in the living room with a dirty little girl about the age of her Kimie.

Yoriko put down the book, looked at the nervous man with tired eyes. It took the darkskin woman exactly three deep breaths to will the cold sweat beginnings of a panic attack away for the time being. She composed herself to deliver a statement to cut through the tension.

"Rinaldo...Who's baby is this?" She demanded coldly, in her native Brazilian Portuguese.

The trembling child looked the almost the same age as her baby...

She felt pain in her chest and her palms start to dampen the more she analyzed the situation before her.

Did he?

A quiet voice in her head, maybe the delusional, stubborn part of her, whispered;

No, her man was dumb, not disrespectful.

"Remember that birthday party we went to a month after Kimie turned four?"

Rinaldo spoke in his wife's language so there would be no mistranslations. He knew exactly what the scene looked like; him walking in their house with an unknown toddler the same age as his. He begged the universe that his wife would trust and hear him out and not revert to their younger days where she would go at his neck with her nails.

She walked towards him, keeping eye contact, deciding to let her nervous husband state his case.

"The party that was just filled with snooty adults who just used their untrained kids as a chance to brag?"

Yoriko clarified remembering the day clearly. It was the day she nearly broke off tree branch to whoop some little boy's ass for pushing Kimiko in the pool. She ended up beating the dad's ass instead for laughing it off and saying that the little shit did it because he liked her child.

He nodded snorting recalling the day's events also.

"Well I ran into one of the neighbors on the way back and he asked me where they've been for the past six months and I got a gut feeling to go check the house." He leaned down to pat the silently crying child's head but stopped and smiled sadly when she flinched before his hand even touched her.

"And you found her..." Riko studied the girl with worry filled eyes. The girl had tangled inky black hair that fell just past her frail sickly pale shoulders, the girl's clothes were dirty and she looked like she hadn't eaten in all her five years.

She dropped to the floor before the child and spoke firmly but kindly.

"What's your name dear?"

The girl looked surprised to have and adult actually talk and not yell at her. She quickly wiped her eyes and stood up straighter.

"My names Misaki Somai." She answered wanting to please the smiling woman before her.

"Well Misa-chan My name is Yoriko Aida and from now on you'll be living with us."

Misaki started crying; she didn't know why but she was so happy that she didn't have to go back to that house or wait for her parents to come back to be mean to her.

Yoriko knowing that the child in front of her was crying tears of happiness. She reached forward and gathered her in arms and walked up stairs.

"Let's go get you cleaned up."

Yoriko returned from getting Misaki settled in, to find her husband with his hands around a mug watching closely at the hot liquid, like the secrets of the world could be found in the steam.

She just sighed and made her way over to sit next to him. She sat looking at her husband for a while before he looked up and smiled weakly at her.

"I'm sorry, darling." she blurted out, unable to meet her husband's eyes.

He shushed her gently, tucking a stray curl under her bonnet.

"Never feel sorry for what you feel, especially in a situation like that."

He met her eyes before bring his mug to his lips.

"I'm in amazement that you accepted her so quickly."

His statement caused her to frown a little before replying.

"I can see that her parents didn't treat her well Rin, and to be honest the way she latched on to me like that, that means she probably has some severe abandonment issues. That's going to cause a lot of problems and its gonna be a struggle to get that type of mentality out of her brain."

Rinaldo chuckled playfully at the brown skinned woman.

"Yeah? you feel that strongly about her already?"

"What kinda parents would we be if one of our babies didn't have a secure attachment to us?"

Riko said raising her nose to the ceiling before meeting her husband's amused eyes a sly smile and a roll of her own brown eyes.

"Anyway."

She leaned over his mug and peered into only to see a tea bag diffusing to make the foul green drink she hated. She made a face and leaned back in her chair, leaving her husband to chuckle at her disgust.

His smile dropped slightly.

"How do you think Koko would react to having a sister?" he asked thoughtfully

"And so suddenly too" his brows furrowed before looking up when he heard a dismissive 'pssh' from his wife.

Yoriko waved her hand dismissively at him.

"That was what you were brooding about Rin? The kid badgers me every other day about how much she needs a sister." a yawn escapes her lips before continuing a bit more seriously.

"When Kimiko sees her in the morning she might just scream her little head off! But Nana's boy, I'm not sure."

Rinaldo smiled at his tired wife's reassurance.

"I'm sure Tsuna would be just as happy as Koko when he sees her- "He stopped when Riko started shaking her head rapidly while looking at him.

"Here's the thing, Tsuna gets bullied when Ross isn't there with him in school along with Nana being a little insensitive towards him at times, the idea of having to share the friendship may be a little daunting for him." She laughed at the brunet man's shocked expression.

Rinaldo stared at his wife noticing her slight shift in moods.

"...You want to tell me why you think Nana's being a little mean to the boy?" He asked carefully. The Italian man honestly couldn't wrap his head around the concept of such a sweet woman even scolding the young boy, far less being cruel to him.

Yoriko looked at her lap and seemed to shrink on herself.

Seeing his wife's condition, he swiftly brought his chair closer and pressed his lips to her cheek before whispering encouragements against it.

"C'mon sweetheart..."

"I-I may be overthinking something that's not my business..." She murmured softly after exhaling a deep breath. He just leaned in and pecked the corner of her lips; coaxing his wife to speak up.

"C'mon Sweets, its clearly bothering you... Let's talk." he urging just as softly.

Yoriko felt her cheeks warm up at the old pet name and sighed.

"Iemitsu is a jackass- "

"What's new?"

"Hush!" she said to gain his attention.

"Understand, that like Nana, I know and recognize that you work a very dangerous job; one that's best that I don't know anything about. I also accept that you can't be home all the time, you warned me of this in the very beginning of our relationship."

Rinaldo looked at her with sad eyes and a painful grimace. He always harbored a deep dislike to the overly friendly man. Mostly from his seemingly lack of morals and his chronic need to speak all of his business but it seems every day his list seems to grow longer.

Noticing the thoughtful look on her man's face, she patted his cheek to refocus his attention and rolled her eyes before she continued.

"He never gave Nana the chance to understand this concept, he literally did a prince charming act on her; he started dating her for short amount of time and next think you know, BAM married! I mean only recently he told her that he's doing dangerous work" She felt the anger and frustration for her friend's situation rise.

" Oh and get this! You would think that he'll come home for once and hash it out with her, nah, he did it over the phone and hung up!" She threw her hands up in frustration.

Rinaldo raised an amused brow at his wife's movements.

"And guess who had to do damage control?!"

"I don't know Sweets, you?" he chuckled

"You're damned Right!" she slapped the table.

She composed herself and continues grumbling.

"Had the nerve to say while she was hysterical that how the both of us were in the same boat with our adventurous husbands." Rinaldo's smile turned sorrowful and he bowed his head feeling ashamed, she saw this, smiled kindly and lowered her voice more before she spoke.

"But I strongly disagree with her." He looked up at her with confusion. Her smile grew as she continues.

"Unlike Iemistsu, you show remorse when you miss a school play, you call all the time and when you can't you send letters and amongst other things, I never have to question your love for me or our family."

Yoriko finished gazing lovingly at her husband, the man that tries so hard and constantly beats himself up over situations he has no control over. One of the reason why she vowed to always be there to remind him of the amazing man he is.

"Blinded by my striking good looks, Sweets?"

But he'll always be her stupid husband.

"... Anyway! I think Nana thought that when she had Tsuna, Iemistu would be home more often, but if anything that just made things worse because he hasn't visited once since the poor baby's turned five."

"What?" He asked lowly.

The Italian man bristled, his dislike for Iemistu grew even more a bit.

Sensing her husband's vexation, she stood up making the chair scrape loudly against the floor thus breaking him out of his spell to look up at her.

She slapped her cheeks in mock surprise.

"Ara? Is that the time already? Gossiping about other people's problems really drains me!"

She pulled her jumbled man out the chair and started dragging to their room.

"Come along monkey-husband, bedtime!"

"wha-? Rikooo..." he whined stumbling after her.

"Hush."

"Psst!"

"Koko, wake up babe, daddy's home" Yoriko woke up the sleeping toddler with hushed excitement in her voice.

Eyes the colour of the of when clouds mix into the sky opened slowly before excitement filled them. She jumped out of her bed running out of the room

"Mommy hurry up daddy's home" her high pitched voice trailed off as she left the chuckling woman in her bedroom to clean up after her.

The older man smiled as he heard the rapid steps of his five-year-old come down the steps of their home.

"Daddy!"

The man in turn knelt down to gather his ball of energy in his arms, tossing her in the air before settling on the coach with her on her lap giggling while he tickled and shower her with kisses. He watched her laugh for a bit; taking in the joy on her face just be seeing him home. Rinaldo felt a mix of emotions develop in his chest but tamped them away to focus on his child.

He watched he eyes trail to the small figure sitting at their kitchen table slowly eating a bowl of oatmeal.

"Koko, remember all the times you were asking me for a sister for you and Tsuna to play with?"

The young girl focused on her mother in slight suspicion

"I though you said she'd be a baby and id have to wait longer?"

Both adult laughed causing her to tilt her head in confusion.

"Well that's not the only way for you to get a sibling." Her mother answered.

"its not?"

"No honey, there's a thing called adoption, where adults and become parents to a child who doesn't have any." Her father explained to her, satisfying her curiosity and causing her excitement to build again.

"Can I go play with her now?" she asks not taking her eyes of the smaller girl

"No but you can go have breakfast with her and get to know her." Her mom rationalized with her

"Okay!" The brown skinned girl slid off her father's lap and walked to kitchen.

Both adults watched with bated breath as the older girl climbed up on the chair next the younger. Kimiko started talking and they watched as the other girl quickly came out of her shell and started to talk back with her slowly pushing the noise level higher and higher until the entire kitchen was filled with playful screams and giggles.

Rinaldo turned to his standing wife before pulling her on his lap.

"Well that went better than I expected." He murmured lowly to her.

"They're five year olds not rival gang leaders.'

Well…not anymore.

Rinaldo felt his throat tighten before clearing

"Right, right."

A/N heavy editing on this one compared to the version on wattpad if anyone saw it before I placed it in my drafts.

Just a heads up that this is slow burn fic so I want to flesh out the foundation between Tsuna and Kimiko before I do a time skip.
