Super Magic!
On the world known as Kingdom Come, the Golden League was in the Fortress of Solitude; the Justice League having been distracted from their battle when the black shadow creatures had descended upon the planet – at least the Justice League's motives of killing first came in handy against those creatures.
Diana Prince was at the console in the Fortress while the rest of the League watched on, unsure what was next.
"We have had to refresh the link established with Elysium and New Krypton," the holographic image of Jor-El spoke, "as New Daxam has been destroyed by the anti-matter wave."
"That's a blow," Ray Palmer moaned. "The four worlds now reduced to three…"
"But we knew about this for months," J'onn J'onnz spoke out at this – when the Hitchhikers Kayla Lane and Cisco Ramon had come to their world, Clark had contacted New Krypton and the best minds of Krypton, Daxam, Elysium, and the Golden League on Earth had come up with this plan to defend themselves, using a link between the four planets "How can the anti-matter be taking the best of us?"
"The Kryptonian technology set up to deflect the anti-matter through here, Elysium, New Daxam, and New Krypton was working at full capacity until New Daxam's destruction," Jor-El explained, "but the anti-matter wave is too strong now."
"Is there nothing we can do?" M'Gann M'orzz asked, frowning.
"Not even Rae could hold back this energy," Diana was the one to speak from the console, looking over the information. "Research showed that speedsters could deflect the anti-matter for a limited time, but that time has now passed."
"I'm afraid to announce that New Krypton has now been destroyed. Elysium is next," Jor-El interrupted as Diana's eyes went wide – she had raised Kara Zor-El, who now resided on Elysium, and who now was in great danger. "When the meta-human's world goes, it's safe to assume that our deflection technology would be even more severely weakened," the hologram added.
"Kara..." Diana though moaned, biting her lip as she looked to the teleportation room – Kara could come here to save herself or Diana could go to be with Kara if that didn't happen. They would die either way. Whether it was here or on Elysium – although there was something nice about the idea of dying on a world named after Amazonian heaven.
"Go," Ray stated to Diana's surprise; she didn't say another word as she moved to the teleportation room to head to Elysium.
"How is the Justice League doing?" Jesse Wells asked now as Ray moved over to look at the console Diana had left, taking charge now their two leaders in Superman and Wonder Women were gone.
"It looks like there's a few injuries, one death," Ray mused, looking over the information available.
"Who?" A Green Lantern asked, concerned despite himself. Even after everything they had done they didn't want to see the Justice League members die.
"Oliver," Ray looked back to them as he said it.
"The Justice League is without their leader," M'Gann breathed at this.
"If the situation wasn't so dire…" J'onn added, but at that moment Jor-El spoke up again.
"Elysium has now gone," the hologram spoke solemnly.
"Rae…" Jesse moaned; she and Rae were both speedsters and although they'd only met a handful of times, the death of a fellow speedster hit hard. She had been thinking of visiting Rae in Elysium and asking for training before this happened.
"Kara," J'onn and M'Gann chorused; they had got on with the Kryptonian well, along with Clark's young clone, also named Kal, whom Kara was raising on the planet.
"Diana," Ray added sadly – she had only just left to find Kara, after all. He hoped they were together when they died.
"I'm fearful to say that we're next," Jor-El added.
"It's too late," another Lantern sighed at this.
"There has to be something!" Ray slammed his hand on the console at this, but instantly regretted it as he felt pain in his hand from the harder Kryptonian software.
"There isn't," a new voice spoke, and the group turned to see a man in green and gold.
"Who are you?" Jesse rounded on the newcomer.
"I am Pariah," Gal-El stated. "I am Kryptonian and I'm witnessing my mistake. But I have to know. Kal-El was taken earlier, he was told he was a Paragon, yes?"
"Indeed Kal-El senior left," it was Jor-El who explained this, Diana having informed him upon her arrival back in the Fortress without Clark. Jor-El had started calling Clark,' Kal-El senior; when he had been informed of the clone who went by the name Kal-El as well.
"Please, what are the Paragons? How were they made?" Gal turned his attention to Jor-El at this, not letting on that the hologram was his own father, even if he was pleased to see his face.
"I do not know," Jor-El stated truthfully.
"This is the first we've heard of it," Ray added.
"Damn," Pariah sighed under his breath. "In that case…"
"Wait! Is there anything you can do to help us?" Ray was quick to ask this.
"This world's death is inevitable," Pariah sighed. "I'm sorry." With that, Pariah vanished in a flash of red, surprising, and confusing the group.
"The anti-matter wave has reached Earth," Jor-El added. "The Kryptonian technology has failed," the Golden League looked at one another, as alarms sounded within the Fortress of Solitude – and just like that, the world was consumed by the anti-matter, as yet another universe was destroyed by the Anti-Monitor.
Meanwhile, in what was once the skies above the planet Earth, Gal-El watched in sadness as he muttered to himself: "Five worlds left…"
-Crisis on Infinite Millma Earths-
There was an explosion aboard the Splitsville Waverider, which rocked the ship and caused all occupants to dive for cover.
"We have lost contact with Mutant Earth's Waverider," the A.I. Leonard Snart announced, just as the console partially exploded, those nearest to it jumping out of the way.
"It is gone," the Monitor added, sadly, he alone having remained standing as the group got to their feet; New Justice Kara, however, ran from the room without a word, followed by Mutant Kara and Barry.
"Whatever happened to that Waverider has short circuited many of the controls here," Ray stated in dismay, looking over the remains of the console
"Is that good or bad?" Splitsville Rae asked, frowning at this.
"Well, it's not good news," Ava added, a little to sarcastically as she went to check the console with Ray.
"I'm not a technological person," Rae mumbled in retort to Ava.
"My Time Drive is irreparably damaged," the A.I. Snart stated, interrupting anymore conversation between the two. "We can no longer travel through time. And the Jax and Rip Hunter of Mutant Earth are dead."
"What?" Sara was the one to ask this.
"They were in my Time Drive at the moment of explosion, they are no more," the A.I. Snart confirmed.
"Well, there goes my plan of escaping into the past to avoid this wave of death," Mutant Cisco stated, trying to joke but received no laughs.
"Forget that, can we still jump worlds?" SuperEarth Barry asked, looking between Sara, now at the console, and Harbinger, who had updated the Waverider so it could jump worlds.
"Yes, we can," Harbinger stated sympathetically.
"The kids are okay," New Justice Kara returned at this, Mutant Kara and Barry following behind her.
"They're shaken, but fine," Mutant Barry added.
"Mick, Nora and our Caitlin are calming the younger ones," Mutant Kara finished for the other two. "Kal is helping."
"What about Mutant Earth?" SuperEarth Barry spoke up at this turning everyone's attention back to the Monitor and Harbinger, somehow knowing the answer.
"Destroyed," Harbinger was the one to answer this as a groan crossed the group.
"Our world…" Mutant Kara and Barry muttered, shocked, now holding onto each other. Their first attempt to stop this had failed and with it, their world.
"At least the children are safe," Kayla Lane pointed out, pale herself. Mutant Earth was one of the worlds she frequented often.
"It was a good plan," New Justice Kara said. "Now we know what doesn't work we can try something else."
"Caitlin," Cisco groaned as New justice Kara frowned at the name drop. "She's in the nursery with her daughter. She doesn't even know that Mon just died. He is – was – her husband," he added for the rest of the group.
"I'll… I'll tell her," Mutant Barry sighed, leaving the room to tell his friend the devastating news. Caitlin loved Mon as much as she once loved Ronnie. She had just lost a second love to a madman.
"How many worlds are left?" SuperEarth Barry asked, turning his attention back to Harbinger, not hiding his frustration that their time loop plan hadn't even slowed the Anti-Monitor down. Time was not their friend in this. It would not help them stop him and they were running out fast.
"I don't know," Harbinger stated, confusing the group – everything was happening so quickly now. "But with Mutant gone, only the seven Paragon worlds would remain."
"An infinite multiverse is down to seven worlds," it was Kayla Lane who said this, people in the room paling at this information too. There had been so many worlds and now there were only seven left.
"The worlds from which the Paragons are from are the surviving ones," the Monitor confirmed.
"Beautiful, New Justice, Karry, Prime," Mutant Cisco listed.
"Hero, Kingdom Come and…" Kayla continued for partner-in-crime.
"SuperEarth," SuperEarth Barry moaned at this. Being a Paragon world would not keep his world safe anymore.
"Are you telling me we spent so long chasing the Paragons and hearing your little history lesson that every world except the seven Paragon worlds died?" New Justice Kara rounded on the Monitor now.
"I can confirm that two of those Paragon worlds have been destroyed already," the A.I. Snart interrupted, a cold dread filling those from these worlds now.
"Which ones…?" SuperEarth Barry asked, his voice a little hollow at the question.
"Beautiful Earth and, just now, Kingdom Come," the Monitor was the one to state this, he able to see more than any of those in the Waverider, except for the A.I. itself, of course. Harbinger could too, but not as clearly as the Monitor; it was why she wasn't sure how many were left moments ago.
"SuperEarth is next," the Monitor added, looking directly at that Barry now.
"How do you know?" Mutant Cisco was the one to ask this.
"Worlds get weaker when those before them die, SuperEarth is the now weakest of those remaining," the Monitor confirmed.
"Snart," Sara was the one to speak up, at this, "can you get us to SuperEarth?"
"Harbinger's modifications still work, we can still cross between the remaining worlds," the A.I. confirmed.
"Then get me home!" SuperEarth Barry snapped, scared now as he thought to his family and friends who must be fighting for their lives now on SuperEarth.
"We are already there," the A.I. Snart responded; SuperEarth Barry looking out of the window to see the shadows again flying past the window.
"Those damn Dementors," SuperEarth Barry sighed, but before he could move, New Justice Kara had him by the shoulder.
"Keep your head," New Justice Kara instructed, confusing Barry. "This is your world, your fight, but if things turn south, don't get mad – you can't afford that."
"Right," SuperEarth Barry stated, not sure what to say at this. It was comforting for him having New Justice Kara here. New Justice Rae was his mentor but with her protected as a Paragon having her wife here was the next best thing. Besides, it was his Kara who was more the leader than he was, so it was nice to have that in New Justice's Kara.
"There's an unusual energy reading coming from Central-National City," Ray stated, reading from the remains of the Splitsville console. "I think… it's magic?" He looked over to SuperEarth Barry at this, who smirked.
"Constantine," SuperEarth Barry stated.
"Well, this will be unusual," the Monitor was the one to speak now as eyes turned to him. "The Anti-Monitor could wipe out a world in seconds if he chooses to, and yet magic is something he doesn't know how to deal with yet,"
"Wait, he's a being from the beginning of time, like you – how can he not know how to tackle magic?" Mutant Cisco asked, confused by this statement.
"Because magic originates from one of the Speed Force's siblings, known as the Sphere of the Gods," Harbinger stated, shocking those gathered.
"And the Speed Force defies you, so it makes sense that she and her siblings would defy your double," New Justice Kara voiced. "What? Rae told me," she added, shrugging.
"Okay, this whole Sphere of the Gods things needs talking about, but once we save my world," SuperEarth Barry pointed out.
"Might have been a bad idea to leave our Constantine at home," Sara mused – they had left Constantine and Charlie in Constantine's house in England instead of going to pick him up when Harbinger showed up. Now, she wished she had taken them both. They were dead though, along with the rest of Splitsville.
"We have landed," the A.I. Snart stated, SuperEarth's Barry nodding before heading for the door.
"Wait for me!" Splitsville Rae called, running after SuperEarth Barry.
"We'll sit this one out," Mutant Kara stated at this, already heading for the makeshift nursery and her Barry, not needing to explain that she wanted to spend some precious time with their kids after losing their home world. Mutant Cisco, however, opened a portal on the bridge, he and Kayla Lane leaving through it.
"You," New Justice Kara now turned on the Monitor, "do what you have to to distract the Anti-Monitor. If magic is proving tricky for him, then it could be the key to saving this world. Legends?" Not even allowing the Monitor to speak, Kara turned her attention to those gathered Legends. With Mutant, their designated leaders, taking a break and the others already left, she easily took the leader position.
"I need to see what I can do to fix the console," Ray stated – the console was severely damaged, after all.
"I'll help," Ava added, "besides, fighting isn't exactly my thing."
"I'll be here if you need me," Sara added. "Keeping the Waverider ready to go in a moment notice in case we need a quick getaway."
"Good idea. Nerds, get the Waverider back into fighting shape. We may need it again," New Justice Kara added, giving the Legends a nod before glancing to Harbinger and Monitor and leaving herself.
"Nerds?" Ray frowned at the term; not aware it was something the smarter members of New Justice's Justice League were called.
The Waverider had parked directly outside STAR Labs, which would have caused a spectacle to the public had they not been hiding from the Dementor creatures that were swooping down from the sky. What was really interesting though were the four people on the roof of the Labs with one in the sky between them – a man in a golden helmet seemed to be concentrating the magical energies of the four people on the roof, directly at the sky, creating a spot in the redness that was still, remarkably, blue sky.
Inside STAR Labs, however, Barry and Rae had come to a stop in front of Alex Danvers, the Director of the DEO, who used STAR Labs as their base of operations.
"Barry!" Alex stated thankfully. "The Justice League are out protecting their cities from those creatures. Clark took Lois, the kids and Kandar to the Fortress. You and Kara…" she was stopped listing out what Barry wanted to know when June Moone appeared, running up the corridor behind the Director.
"What the hell happened?!" June demanded, surprising Barry now. "You left me with that Rag Doll thing and with the red skies! Where did you and Kara go?"
"Oh," Barry paused at this, not sure how to answer his ex, but Rae was the one to speak for him.
"That red sky, those shadow creatures – that's Crisis, and it'll destroy this world if we don't do something, so don't go complaining about a rag doll thing when there are bigger, worst, situations happening," Rae snapped, surprising June who fell silent.
"It's what Enchantress warned us about," Barry added, a little quieter and amazed at Rae's sudden rant – she had been thrown into this more than anyone else, after all, and lost her home world all in one swoop. But no Rae was the type to give up and it seemed this Rae was determined to help save the worlds now. "It's the reason she called Kara a Paragon."
"Wait, where is Kara?" Alex asked Barry, worried for her sister.
"She's… not available, but she's safe," Barry sighed, "which is more than we can say here. We have watched this same anti-matter wave destroy many worlds. There's only five worlds left in the entire multiverse."
"Seriously?" Alex asked pulling out her cell phone and putting in the code for the multiverse system to see all worlds but theirs and four others gone. "Prime, Karry Universe, Hero, New Justice, and us."
"What's happening on the roof?" Barry asked, not needing a reminder of what worlds remained. Five of the seven paragon worlds.
"Constantine and Doctor Fate had an idea. There's a spell, something powerful, but it required at least three more magic users," Alex explained, half an eye on her cell now, "so we got Raven out of her cell and found Giovanni Zatara and his daughter, Zatanna – friends of Constantine, of course – and the four of them are using some sort of spell on Doctor Fate to repel the anti-matter."
"That sounds… complicated," Barry paused.
"But it seems to be working," Rae mused now. "I saw blue skies above when we came in here. What if we got more magic users? It might help increase the spells power."
"Getting more magic users is not so easy. We seem to have the most on this Earth, but still can only get those five on short notice," Alex said.
"What about the other worlds?" Rae asked. "If we can stop this now, we have five worlds left in the multiverse. Not a lot, but it's something. Prime, Karry Universe, New Justice, and Hero. Get their magic users here."
"Karry Universe doesn't have magic," Barry stated, remembering that was why Constantine was here – he had been Karry Universe's Constantine before he came here. "But we know for a fact New Justice has that Nora Darkh. The one you gave that Ring of Fate thing to," Barry stated this to Alex, who nodded.
"Worth a shot," Alex said, about to dial a call to New Justice on her cell – the only world they knew a definite magic user available.
"It won't last," a new voice spoke before Alex could, and all turned to see Pariah standing there, but a moment later, Harbinger appeared opposite him. "Getting more magic users will just delay, not save," Pariah added.
"Well, this just got complicated," Harbinger joked as Pariah frowned at his own opposite – while she had been made Harbinger through the Monitor, he had become Pariah through the Anti-Monitor, after all.
"This doesn't need to be," Pariah stated. "I didn't want any of this."
"And yet, you have no choice," Harbinger added, a little sadly. "I'm not here to fight you, Pariah, I know what it's like to be under someone else's control."
"At least you have free will, still," Pariah stated.
"You do have free will, Gal-El," Harbinger stated, surprising the man that she used his real name. What with seeing a double of his on Old Justice and now having his name actually be used, he wondered if he could have allies, even after all he did.
"Okay, this has gone on long enough," Alex was the one to speak as she now held a gun out to Pariah, astounding the man. "Mila, I don't know what tricks you're playing but I assume this guy is the bad guy?"
"No, he's not, not strictly speaking," Harbinger stated, vanishing from her spot to appear between Alex's gun and Pariah, to protect him. "He's a puppet. Killing him won't stop anything."
"And she's not our Mila," Barry added, speeding forward to physically lower Alex's gun. He didn't actually know if the gun would work on Harbinger or Pariah, but he decided to make this a point. "We need to concentrate on ending the Anti-Monitor. Not bother with their puppets. No offense Harbinger."
"None taken," Harbinger said with a shrug to the alternate of her brother.
"Alex, love?" A new voice came into Barry's ear, startling him before he realized his earpiece had obviously synced back to his world and he could hear the exchanges between heroes here. "It's not working. Fate's compromised."
"Damnit," Alex groaned. "If there's anything you guys can do, you better do it now."
"There's nothing," Pariah stated, speaking now as if in a trance. "The magic has been overcome," and before anyone could react, he'd reached forward and grabbed Harbinger, teleporting them both away.
"No!" Barry groaned, surprised this had happened. A portal opened though, and Mutant Cisco, Kayla Lane and New Justice Kara came through it.
"It's too late, I'm sorry Barry," New Justice Kara stated.
"We have to go," Kayla added, and as she spoke the roof above their heads suddenly vanished, consumed by anti-matter.
"Yes. Time to go!" Rae added, grabbing Barry before he could even turn to grab Alex or June, who seconds later, had been erased by the anti-matter wave.
-Crisis on Infinite Millma Earths-
In the skies above Central-National, the Monitor had flown up to speak with the Anti-Monitor, to delay the destruction of this world as instructed, but that hadn't gone as planned; after not giving out information on the Paragons, he and the Anti-Monitor had gone into a full-fledged battle, which didn't help having the Dementor creatures swooping in to attack him every few seconds too.
"Enough of this!" The Anti-Monitor shouted, with a particularly powerful blast at the Monitor. "With every world I destroy, the stronger I get. Pariah!" He called for his servant, who appeared in a flash of light. He wasn't alone.
"Harbinger?" The Monitor paused at seeing the girl in Pariah's arms.
"Now tell me, once and for all, what are the Paragons?!" The Anti-Monitor demanded, moving over to his slave and Harbinger but directing his attention to the Monitor, still.
"I cannot," the Monitor stated, sadly.
"Then you leave me no choice," the Anti-Monitor snapped, firing concentrated anti-matter at Harbinger, causing her to cry out in pain, still in Pariah's unwilling clutches, the man flinching at what he was forced to participate in.
"Leave her alone!" The Monitor called, now throwing energy at the Anti-Monitor himself, but he was weakened now, with so few worlds in the multiverse now existing on pure matter.
"I will if you tell me about the Paragons!" The Anti-Monitor demanded. "This world is almost gone; the magic users have been destroyed."
"The Paragons are…" the Monitor moaned, but the Anti-Monitor blasted Harbinger again with another energy blast, she cried out in pain. "They're a back-up device!" The Monitor wavered.
"No," Harbinger insisted of her own master, her voice weakened. "He can't know."
"And he won't," Pariah added, glaring at the Anti-Monitor now. The words 'back-up system' brought some hope to Pariah and, along with Harbinger's own sympathy towards him, gave him enough spark to defy his master at least this once. With Harbinger still in hand, he flew forward, grabbed hold of the Monitor and all three vanished in a flash of light.
"No!" The Anti-Monitor called, anger engulfing him, which he aimed at the last of this universe below him.
-Crisis on Infinite Millma Earths-
A portal opened on the Waverider, SuperEarth Barry and Rae speeding through it followed by New Justice Kara and Kayla, and Mutant Cisco.
"We could have at least saved Alex and June," Barry didn't waste time to round on the others at this realization.
"It was us or them!" Rae protested.
"We're speedsters, we could have grabbed them!" Barry snapped back.
"When my world was dying you all just grabbed me and no one else," Rae shouted now. "Even Daniel and Sha're would have died if they weren't right with me." The two animals, who had stayed in the Waverider, gave a bark and meow as if agreeing with Rae.
"It's too late to argue this now," New Justice Kara stood between the two fuming speedsters as anger lightning flashed in Barry's eyes. Rae clearly ready to respond with her own.
"Indeed, SuperEarth is no more," the A.I. Snart stated, Barry turning his attention to the broken console that Ray and Ava were still repairing, he swore aloud.
"Barry, cool down," New Justice Kara stated, "remember what I said. Take a break."
"I don't want–!" Barry started, but Sara jumped forward at this.
"Yeah, come with me," Sara cooed, moving to the speedster. Barry wanted to protest but decided against it – there was no point, he had lost everything else. He sighed as he nodded and followed Sara out of the bridge.
"With SuperEarth gone, that leaves us with four worlds," Mutant Cisco pointed out. "That's bad."
"No kidding," Kayla added.
"Might want to switch that to three," it was the Snart A.I confusing the two. "The attack on Hero has started and it's moving fast. I fear there is no reason going there. We should head to the world after and get a head start there."
"Which leaves us with Prime, Karry, and…" Cisco paused looking at New Justice Kara.
"New Justice," New Justice Kara said as Kayla put an arm over her shoulder. "I think it's time for me to go home."
"Wait, where's the Monitor and Harbinger?" Kayla was the one to ask this, and as if in reply, there was a flash of light and three people appeared before them.
Harbinger collapsed in front of Pariah, while the Monitor groaned in pain and weakness himself as all eyes turned to Pariah, shocked to see him in their presence. Ava moved forward, albeit cautiously, to check on Harbinger while Pariah took a step back.
"I can explain… I hope," Pariah stated, arms in the air as those present rounded on him.
-Crisis on Infinite Millma Earths-
On Hero Earth, Kryptonians and Green Lanterns flew in the skies, punching at the creatures which had descended, while two familiar Green Martians met up with the Anti-Monitor who was watching the destruction.
"This world is protected!" J'onn J'onnz stated defiantly to the Anti-Monitor.
"No world is protected. I know that well. This multiverse is wrong, and it will be replaced if it's the last thing I do," the Anti-Monitor stated, angry at Pariah abandoning him to save the Monitor and Harbinger.
"Replaced with what?" M'Gann M'orzz asked, ready to attack too.
"With my vision," the Anti-Monitor stated, and with that he held out his hand, knocking the two Green Martians unconscious with anti-matter, only for them to be caught by the older Supergirl of this world and her Green Lantern husband, Da-Ver.
"I'm bored with this already," the Anti-Monitor sighed to himself. "I've relished in watching a million worlds fight back and yet the Paragons evade me. Pariah betrayed me. I have seen into Mar Novu's mind, and I now know this: The Paragons alone are what can undo all my hard work," the Anti-Monitor groaned to himself, talking to the shadows nearest him. "What did he mean by a backup system?!"
Angered even more at not knowing, the Anti-Monitor raised his hands, a steady stream of anti-matter now flowing from his palms, adding to that which was already surrounding the planet. There was a flash of red light, and all life below vanished as it was consumed by the anti-matter.
"Only three worlds now," the Anti-Monitor confirmed as the flying shadow creatures once more became anti-matter themselves. "The one they call New Justice is the weakest," he mused, now heading to the next world.
Post Chapter Note: I blame Supergirl's use of M'Gann and J'onn recently for them being used more in my chapters. Anyway, three more Paragon worlds gone. Three more to go and three chapters left of this section of Crisis on Infinite Earths. Time to go to New Justice next.
