She hardly felt the heat, she had grown up with it after all. Rey had followed Kylo into the rainforest until she stopped herself and thought 'Why in the name of this galaxy am I following him? If he wants to survive, he should be following me!' Kylo had only stomped off into the very thin outline of the forest, so that was when Rey decided to turn around back towards the beach and think. It was only a few steps before she was sat on a low branch of a beautiful, flourishing, lush tree, staring at the sand on the ground, that blew lightly with the gentle breeze.
It was home, her senses were relaxed as the soft slushing of the ocean against the sand reached her ears, and the different noises of close-by insets and small animals sounded all around. It was paradise. Rey had zoned into thought about what she was going to do, was this an opportunity to turn Kylo to Ben? She was shaken out of these thoughts when her eyes trailed up an opposite tree with smooth bark where a shiny beetle was climbing, in the coroner of her eye, Rey spotted something that didn't fit the island's description. She sighed she hopped down from the tree branch and trudged along the sand towards Kylo who stood still, gazing out to the ocean with his arms crossed and his eyes narrowed. The man's cloak calmly flew with the breeze as his ebony hair caught the sun and tidied it out of place.
As Rey neared, Kylo didn't move. His eyes were fixed on the never-ending sea before him, where he stood by the shore, just managing not to be in range of the waves landing on the sand. She realised then that he was making an attempt to ignore him, one that she was sure would not last for long.
"You have to accept it" Rey said as she copied the man's stance, looking in the same direction as him. When he didn't say anything, Rey spoke again. "We're both stuck here together, you have to face it. Both of us know that I am the one who can survive here, you have no idea what to do! So please, instead of trying to be the hero, listen to me so we can both survive and then I and destroy you in battle!"
"Why?" Kylo said in his deep voice as he looked down at Rey. "Why not kill me now? Go on, you have your sabre."
"I'm not going to do that" Rey said as she looked up at him.
"You hate me. You should kill me now. You want to, I see it" Kylo was playing, trying to mess with Rey's mind. "At least one of us will get off this island alive."
"Why not both of us?" Rey said.
"Because I don't contain my anger. If you don't end me, I will end you, you must sleep sometime."
"I know you wouldn't do that. Just like you know I wouldn't kill you. And before you ask, it's because Ben Solo is there, whether you like it or not" Rey said, she saw a cunning blaze in Kylo's darkening eyes, his stare became more intense and cornering to Rey. Suddenly it felt like they weren't in paradise, only in a dark place where all hell unfolded.
"And whether you like it or not," Kylo spoke in a deep, vibrating whisper as their eyes locked together and he bent his head a little closer to hers. "I know things about you that you want to learn, dark things that will change your view of evil forever. I know everything about you Rey, how pitch black your heart and mind actually are, you want to know everything I know, you want to grab me and murder me, then wear my blood on your clothes as a warning. Please do it, go on, kill me, you are slipping into the dark side as I speak these words, it won't be long until you ask for my hand that you have only just rejected. We are dyad. You cannot rid yourself of me, and I know that you don't want to lose me, you want me, you feel safe with me, you feel correct in your place."
Then everythign flooded back. They were at paradise again. Rey had wide eyes at how dark Kylo had gone. They both stood in silence for ages, staring at each other until Kylo brought his face away from Rey and spun around as he trudged once again up the beach towards the forest. But this time Rey did not follow. When Kylo noticed that there was no presence behind him, he turned around to see Rey a couple of steps away looking down at the ground. He sighed heavily.
"Well? Since you're convinced, you're the expect, what do we do first?" he said.
"What do you mean?" Rey asked, looking up.
"How do we survive on this island?" Kylo asked. For a second Rey didn't believe the man was actually asking her this, but then she began to nod slowly.
"Follow me" and she walked past Kylo. Now he was following her.
