Being face-to-face at Sky High, the Freshmen marvel at it. Rosita is trying to find that single red hair streak and leather that she can notice from anywhere.
She just found Warren, who is brooding at the staircase with a book in hand, and has a smile adorning her features, before getting taken by surprise and getting trapped into a vortex.
Standing at 4'11 and getting forced together by the vortex, Rosita is feeling very claustrophobic and uncomfortable with everyone being too close to her, especially since it has been only less than ten minutes since arriving at Sky High and she had just met all of these people.
The vortex stops, and it turns out to be a guy that has super speed. "Hey, Freshmen! Your attention please." he exclaims as another guy uses his elasticity to make his way down the stairs and stand next to the super speed guy.
Both of these guys are tall, and it makes Rosita feel inferior.
"I'm Lash, this is Speed. And as members of the Sky High welcoming committee…" the stretchy guy, Lash, starts off.
"We'll be happy to collect that $15 new student fee." Speed finishes as Lash stretches his hand out to the bespectacled boy in orange.
"Uh, there was nothing about a new student fee in the handbook." the boy tells them. Rosita's eyebrows furrow in frustration, coming off as less intimidating and more like a confused puppy.
"Okay, guys. Very funny. I'll take over from here." a brunette, who is dressed in an abundance of pink, reprimands the guys as Lash retracts his arm.
The brunette turns to the group with a smile. "Hey, everybody. I'm Gwen Grayson, your student body president. I know you're all going to love it here at Sky High…" the girl in pink, Gwen, tells the group before going on about rules.
Rosita looks over where her brooding boyfriend was sitting, but she sees that he is not at the staircase anymore, dampening her happy mood a bit.
"And if you can just remember those few simple rules, I promise you will not fall off the edge of the school." Gwen concludes with a giggle. "Now, just follow me inside for orientation."
"Rules? What rules?" Will asks. Layla, who noticed that her best friend got mesmerized by the beautiful upperclassman, asks him if he was paying attention as the people around them follow Gwen up the stairs of Sky High.
Gwen gave the newest additions a little tour before leading them towards the gymnasium. While following everyone else, Rosita felt someone tapping her hand. Curious, the pink-haired girl turns around to see who the culprit is, only to find out that it was the stretchy guy from earlier.
Lash waves to her with a half-smile/half-smirk on his face. Rosita just has a confused expression and ignores the advances as she follows the rest of the students.
Finally making it to the gymnasium and with one last "Good luck." from Gwen, the group of students enter the gymnasium.
A shimmering ball of light hovers over them, to which they all duck down, and that gust of light is now taking the form of a brunette woman wearing an all-white suit.
"Good morning. I am Principal Powers. On behalf of all the faculty and staff, welcome to Sky High…" the woman starts off.
"Yeah!" the highlighter guy, who Rosita learns is named Zach, cheers, only for him to gain a stern look from the principal and for him to shy away.
"In a few moments, you'll go through Power Placement, and your own heroic journey will begin." Principal Powers continues.
"Power Placement?" Will asks, getting confused.
"Sounds fascist." Layla chimes in.
"Power Placement; it's how they decide where you go." the orange boy in glasses, who Rosita learns is Ethan, explains to Will.
"The hero track or loser track." Magenta snarks in.
"Th-There's a loser track?" Will asks, getting intimidated.
"I believe the preferred term is Hero Support." Ethan states.
"Ah, so a Fascist Sorting Hat...got it." Rosita notes.
"For now, good deeds and good luck, let the adventure begin." she concludes, stepping away from the podium that is in front of the three gigantic windows.
"Comets away!" she yells as she turns into that same ball of light and flies out of the gym.
"All right, listen up, my name is Coach Boomer. You may know me as Sonic Boom, you may not." the coach in the baseball cap and sunglasses starts off.
"Here's how Power Placement is gonna work. You will step up here, and show me your power. Yes, you will do so in front of the entire class. I will then determine where you will be assigned: Hero or Sidekick." Boomer begins to explain.
"Now, every year there are a few students, or as I like to call them Whiner Babies, who see fit to question and to complain about their placement, so let's get one thing straight; my word is law. My judgement is final, so there will be no Whiner Babies. Are we clear?" Coach Boomer asks them, to which all of them just mumble their responses.
"I said, are we CLEEEAAR?" Boomer asks again, using his power on display.
"Yes, Coach Boomer!" they exclaim their responses as he blows into the whistle around his neck. "Go time!"
Stairs protrude from the platform that he is standing on and he takes off his sunglasses.
"You. What's your name?" Boomer asks Larry, the boy who was hitting on Layla when they were on the bus.
"L-Larry." the boy stutters.
"Little Larry." Boomer demeans. "Get up here."
"What's humiliating him in front of everyone going to prove? This is so unfair." Layla voices out.
"If life were to suddenly get fair, I doubt it would happen in high school." Will tells her.
Larry takes off his glasses and turns into a giant rock golem.
"Car." Boomer speaks up as a car comes careening down towards the boy, to which the boy stops the car from making contact with his body.
"Big Larry. Hero." Boomer notes.
"So he's good. I'm better." Zach says to Will as he makes his way up the platform, ignoring Will's pleas.
"Did I say you were next?" Boomer asks the platinum blonde-haired boy.
"Name's Zach, Coach Boomer. Try not to drop your clipboard." Zach tells him, ignoring his question and full of confidence.
He was warming up for something, and with the clap of his hands, he is in a T-pose. Rosita is seeing nothing, so she turns to the other students if they were reacting the same way.
"Any day now, superstar." Boomer tells him.
"I'm doing it." Zach tells him. "Doing what?" Boomer asks. "I'm glowing." Zach explains.
"I don't think so." Boomer says, walking up to the highlighter boy.
"Well, it's easier to see in a dark room. Maybe you can turn off some of these lights. You could cup your hands around your eyes and look real close…" Zach was trying to explain, but Boomer was not having none of it.
"Sidekick." he declares. As Zach is questioning his placement, he booms out "SIIIIIDEKICK!", knocking him off the stage.
"You. Front and center." Boomer demands Ethan.
"Let me first start off by saying what an honor…" Ethan starts out as he gets onto the platform before getting cut off by Boomer.
"Is that your power? Butt kissery?" he asks.
"Very funny, sir. You know, I've heard that you have a very wicked sense…" Ethan continues on before getting interrupted again.
"Shut up and power up." Boomer tells the boy.
"Right away, sir." he tells him as he melts into some orange substance.
"Say, that's pretty impressive...for a popsicle! Sidekick." Boomer declares with a thumbs down.
After that, a number of Rosita's peers were getting sorted into either Hero or Sidekick. She is stuck in her own mind before she hears Boomer speak up.
"Purple chick, let's go." Boomer demands Magenta. She gets up to the platform with a hand on her hip.
"What's your schtick?" Boomer asks.
"I'm a shapeshifter." she tells him. "All right, shift it." he tells her. With a roll of her eyes, she shifts into a guinea pig.
"A guinea pig?" Boomer asks in disbelief. "Yep." Magenta responds in an adorable squeaky voice. "Not even a swarm of guinea pigs?" Boomer asks, hopefully. "Uh, no." Magenta responds again.
"Sidekick. Shoo!" Boomer exclaims. "Bite me." Magenta quips back and gets off the platform.
"You, Flower Child. Let's go." Boomer demands Layla, but unlike the other students, she did not go up to the platform.
"I only believe in using my powers when the situation demands it." Layla tells the coach.
"Well, you're in luck. This is the situation, and I'm demanding it." Boomer replies back to her.
With the one look that Will is throwing at Layla, Rosita can tell that Layla must have one hell of a power.
Rosita is all about taking a stand about how the whole Hero-Sidekick thing is pointless, but not to an extent of refusing to show off your powers.
"But to participate in this test would be to support a flawed system. I think the whole Hero-Sidekick dichotomy only serves to…" Layla continues to explain her beliefs, only to be silenced by Boomer.
"Let me get this straight. Are you refusing to show me your power?" Boomer asks Layla.
"It's more complicated than that…'' Layla begins to explain. "Sidekick!" Boomer declares.
"You, Tiny. Get up here." Boomer demands for Rosita.
Rosita gets on the platform and takes off the denim jacket she has on. "Um, can you drop that car?" Rosita asks, nervously.
With a shrug, Boomer presses the button. Adrenaline rushes through Rosita's veins as her eyes turn black and black fairy wings protrude from her back, and easily evade the falling car. Feeling the power surge through her, shadow wisps begin to surround the car, stopping it from making contact with the ground.
When Boomer pressed the same button to make the car go back up in its original place in the ceiling, the shadow wisps began to remove themselves from the car. Rosita floats back down to the ground.
With one look at the nametag on her denim jacket when she places it back on, she knows that he knows. "Very impressive, Cobra Princess. Hero." Boomer declares.
After Rosita's placement, Boomer blows the whistle. "All right, we'll pick it up right after lunch. Starting with you." Boomer drawls out, pointing over at Will.
