Chapter 3: Welcome to Snowdin!

As we reach the other side of the door, a bright, and when I say bright, I mean BRIGHT, light shines in my eyes. I quickly close them before slowly opening them again. I could feel shivers go up my spine, it was super cold outside, probably because this place was covered in snow and trees that looked to go up 50 feet. I look over at Frisk, they looked worried for me. I swear when people are determined, they don't notice anything unless it helps with their goal.

"I'm f-fine just c-cold." I say through chattering teeth, Frisk sighs and grabs my hand, pulling me forward quickly. They did that so we could find something warm for me. There was a stick on the ground that me and Frisk jumped over, after running for a bit, we hear a snap. I look over my shoulder to see the stick was snapped in half. I feel my adrenaline start pumping and start running faster, Frisk was going faster, too.

We make it to a bridge with a pole in the center and were about to cross it when we heard, "HUMANS." Me and Frisk stop dead in our tracks. "DON'T YOU KNOW HOW TO GREET A NEW PAL?" I let go of Frisk's hand and turn around, taking the black figure's hand. A loud farting sound comes from our linked hands and I look at the black figure's face. It wasn't black anymore, and instead, there was a skeleton with a smile on their face. They also had basketball shorts, fuzzy pink slippers, a white shirt and a blue jacket. They take their hand away from mine.

"The whoopie cushion in the hand trick, it's always funny." I start laughing and can't stop the grin growing on my face. The skeleton laughs then, looks me up and down for a sec, smile shrinking a bit. He looks up at me a bit concerned.

"You good kiddo? You're shaking like crazy." I feel my nose starting to run and sigh.

"I'm fine, just cold." The skeleton's smile grows back to the size it normally was and he hands me his jacket. I look at his hand the back up at him.

"Are you sure?" He nods and I gladly take the jacket, putting it on faster than you can say, "I". The jacket was very warm and fluffy.

"Thank you!" The skeleton nods.

"No problem kid, also my name's Sans, Sans the skeleton." Frisk huffs from my side and looks Sans dead in the eyes, or is it eye sockets? His white dots for pupils disappear as he looks back at Frisk. I could feel the tension growing in the atmosphere, I look back and forth between the two.

"Um, I'm Rachel and this is my friend, Frisk." I said the last part motioning to Frisk. Sans looks at Frisk then back at me, his pupils came back when his gaze landed on me.

"It's nice to meet you, kiddo." I tilt my head at Sans.

"Why did the white dots in your eye socket disappear?" I say, Sans looks at me almost like, how someone would look at an innocent child.

"Those white dots are called eyelights, and they disappear when I want them to." I nod, that makes more sense. I sneeze suddenly, making Frisk and Sans look at me. I blush a bit and pull the hood of the jacket over my head. Frisk grabs my arm and pulls me over the bridge. We reach a clearing in the forest, with a lamp and a... Hot dog stand? I don't know what that thing is. Frisk pulls me over to the weird hot dog stand and sits me down on the snow. They walk off somewhere and I hear more footsteps coming.

"SANS! WHERE DID YOUR JACKET GO?" I hear someone shrug, probably Sans.

"Someone was cold, and didn't have one." The unknown voice sighs.

"UGH, I'LL LET IT SLIDE BECAUSE SOMEONE ELSE NEEDED IT. ALSO, WHY WEREN'T YOU AT YOUR STATION?" Sans shrugs again.

"I was on my break." The unknown voice sighs and walks off. After some silence, Sans calls for me and Frisk to come out. I walk out of the weird hot dog stand and Frisk walks out from their hiding space behind the lamp.

"Who was that?" I ask.

"That was my brother, don't worry about him, he wouldn't hurt a fly." I nod and look over at Frisk, they were looking at me with that look. I sigh and look back at Sans.

"It was nice meeting you but me and Frisk need to leave." Sans nods, I go to take off Sans' jacket but he holds his hand up.

"You can keep it for now, we'll meet again another time." I smile at Sans and nod at Frisk. Frisk starts walking further up the path, and I follow behind them. After a bit, I see Sans again but he has another skeleton by his side, could that be his brother? They don't look anything alike though.

"SANS IS THAT A HUMAN?" Sans' brother-or I'm pretty sure is- squeals.

"Um, I'm pretty sure that's a rock." I get a confused look and look around me, my eyes landing on a small, grey rock. How do humans look anything like that?

"OH..." Sans' brother says sadly, I feel my heart break a little at his voice. Sans looks over at me and Frisk.

"Hey, what's that in front of the rock?" Sans says, his brother looks at me and Frisk. He gasps.

"ARE THOSE HUMANS!?" Sans nods his head and his brother squeals. Sans' brother clears his throat.

"HUMANS, PREPARE TO BE CAPTURED! MEET ME UP AHEAD AND WE CAN START." Sans' brother runs off yelling "Nyeheheh!" I tilt my head and look back at Frisk.

"What just happened?" Frisk shrugs, and Sans walks over to us.

"Don't worry about my brother, Rachel, he couldn't hurt a fly." I nod my head. Me and Frisk did all of Papyrus' puzzles and got all the way to Snowdin. Sans took me out to Grillby's, Frisk stayed put and refused to come in, so here I am sitting beside Sans in Grillby's.

"Why'd you take me here?" Sans shrugs.

"Just wanted to get to know ya, before you have to fight my bro." I tilt my head.

"Okay, then..?"

"So, you're Frisk's friend." I nod. "Do you know what resets are?" I shake my head, making Sans sigh.

"Don't worry about it then. Umm, what's you favorite color?"

"It's black."

"Food?"

"Lasagna."

"Animal?"

"Black Panther. What about you?" Sans looks down at his ketchup bottle and takes a sip.

"It's the Pun-da." I feel a smile tugging at the sides of my mouth, I start laughing. Grillby looks over at me and smiles. Sans smiles too, and takes a sip of ketchup.

"Good one, but I should get back to Frisk before they freeze to death." Sans nods and gets off his seat, I follow his lead. We walk out the door, but he pauses half way through.

"Put that on my tab, will ya?" Grillby nods and goes back to cleaning his cup. Sans walks over to my side and we continue walking over to Frisk.

"About time." They say, then they grab my hand and pull me towards the end of Snowdin. After a bit, fog starts to cloud our view and a silhouette of Papyrus appears.

"HUMANS, I-" Frisk groans and flings their head back. They look back at Papyrus with a frown.

"No one wants to hear this again." Papyrus seemed a little hurt from Frisk's words. I frown and look at Frisk.

"You could've been a little nicer..." Frisk huffs and looks away, the world around us turns black. I realize we had started a battle with Papyrus. The rectangle with a white text pops up in front of me, it reads, "Papyrus seems a little heart broken." I walk over to the act button, a special crème colored option appears. It says, "Comfort". I click on the option and look up at Papyrus.

"Don't worry Papyrus, Frisk is just a bit upset." The text in the rectangle changes to, "Papyrus seems to have been a little comforted from that note." I smile at Papyrus and he smiles back at me. Me and Frisk dodge his attacks. When it's my turn again, I click on the Mercy button. The text on the rectangle changes again reading, "Papyrus is a little confused from your actions, but still appreciates that someone cares for him." Wait, doesn't Sans care for him? I'll have to ask later. Me and Frisk dodge his next attacks. I click the act button, the "Comfort" option was changed to "Apologize". I click the option, and look up at Papyrus.

"I'm sorry about Frisk Papyrus, maybe we could hang out later?" The text in the box changes to, "Papyrus perks up happily before remembering something". Papyrus looks into my eyes with a sorry look.

"SORRY HUMAN, BUT WE CAN'T DO THAT..." I shrug.

"It's fine if you don't want to." Papyrus gives me a guilty smile, almost sympathetic. He throws attacks at us again but me and Frisk dodge. I click the mercy button, making Frisk sigh. Papyrus suddenly stops and the area around us looks like normal Snowdin again.

"I-I CAN'T... YOU ARE SO KIND TO ME AND FEEL LIKE A FRIEND. I CAN'T HURT MY FRIENDS, Now I Can't Be In The Royal Guard." Papyrus says the last part quietly, lucky I was able to hear it. I run over to Papyrus and hug him. Papyrus yelps in surprise.

"I don't care if you're in the royal guard, I'd rather have a friend like you. You're my hero Papyrus!" Papyrus smiles and picks me up, hugging me tightly. I put my head in the crook of his neck and he places his head on mine.

"STAY SAFE, RACHEL." He puts me down and pats my head, before walking on the air, over me. I tilt my head in confusion and Frisk chuckles.

"You'll get use to it." They say and walk forward, to Waterfall I think it was called. I don't really care right now, I got a new friend and that's all that matters right now.
