Jane and Lisbon got out of the hospital sooner than expected. Jane was actually convinced that the doctor would act the way doctors always do and would make a fuss that Lisbon still need some bed rest. But fortunately, the doctor agrees with Jane and is sure that it is better for her to be in her usual environment to increase the chance that she will get her memory back faster.
The car ride to the FBI building was quite tense and uncomfortable. Lisbon asked few questions about the FBI and Austin, to which Jane always gave very terse answers. All the while, the brunette couldn't take her questioning and confused gaze off her hand and the wedding ring. She had thousands of questions in her head.
'Who could he be? Do I know him or did I just meet him in the forgotten years? Where do I actually live? Why was Jane in the hospital with me and not my husband? Oh, he must be on a business trip or something. Surely he's a real businessman, really into life. Sensible, honest, predictable, serious...'
"Here we're" Jane interrupts Lisbon's thoughts.
"Oh wow..." Lisbon is completely amazed when she sees the building. "This is nothing like the CBI building".
Jane has to grin a bit. They walk through the entrance together and take the elevator to the right floor. At the top, Lisbon is even more amazed than she was downstairs. They walk a few more steps until Lisbon says something again.
"This makes me feel like I'm in an aquarium and everyone is looking at me."
"Hmm, well, you could very easily feel like they are all in the aquarium and you are looking at them".
All at once Jane gets all sad and sentimental. He has to remember how they had this very conversation, on one of the first days at the FBI. Suddenly, all the events that have happened since then flood him. How Teresa met Pike a few weeks later and she wanted to move to Washington with him; when he confessed his feelings to her and she returned them; how they got engaged and married; the moment Teresa told him about her first pregnancy; the first ultrasound picture; then the birth, in which Teresa suffered terribly; a few months later then the second pregnancy; moving into the new house; Ethan's first steps; the second and again more painful birth, after this birth Teresa was sure that the child planning was over; the first steps of the twins; the children's first days of kindergarten and Ethan's first day of school; the day Patrick and Teresa were called by the kindergarten teacher because the twins had cut another girl's hair; or the one time they had to pick up the twins because the whole bathroom was flooded because of them; or when they were suspended from kindergarten for 5 days because they glued the teacher's chair and she got stuck to it; and a thousand other stories where Patrick had to play disappointed, but inside he was a little bit proud.
What if there will be no more stories and memories because his great love doesn't remember anything and therefore doesn't love him anymore. How will the children react when they find out that the woman who gave birth to them, who always nursed them back to health when they were sick, who was always on their side and still defended and loved them, even if she had to endure a 40-minute long telling off from the governess because of them, no longer remembers them. He quickly shakes off those thoughts and tries not to be so negative about it. 'It's going to turn out all right. She'll remember everything in no time' he thinks and tries to convince himself.
"Here on the left is your office" Jane has arrived back in the present and is now showing Lisbon around.
They enter the small room that is Lisbon's office, where just opposite the door is a desk with two small armchairs in front of it and with a desk chair behind it. Just to the left of the desk is a shelf on the wall with many different documents and folders, and to the right of the office is another couch with a small coffee table in front of it. Jane still has his leather coach in the shared office, but since Lisbon has been promoted, he rarely uses that coach. Instead, he actually spends all day on Lisbon's couch because he loves to spend all his time with her. Jane practically owns the couch already. A few plants that are also in the office make the room seem much cozier and inviting.
While Lisbon is looking around the room and turning her back to Jane, he quickly manages to make the family photo that is on Lisbon's desk disappear into one of the drawers without her noticing.
"Lisbon. I heard what happened and if you need some time off it's fine." Cho has just walked into the office and although Lisbon's last name is now officially "Jane" everyone in the workplace calls her "Lisbon" out of habit.
"Oh, Hi Cho - um I mean boss of course. Thanks for the offer, but I think it will do my memory better if I spend the time here in my familiar surroundings."
"You sure? Wouldn't you rather rest and spend the time with your kids?"
Jane looks at Cho with a reproachful look, while Lisbon looks at him with a perplexed and shocked expression. She then turns to Jane with the same shocked look on her face and asks very quietly "I have kids?"
Jane responds with a shrug and says "Yeah maybe you have a kid or two... or three."
"W-where are they?"
"They're at Van Pelt and Rigsby's house right now."
"At Van Pelt and Rigsby's?"
"Ah yes, did I forget to mention that? They've been married for a few years."
"Really? Yeah, okay actually I'm not surprised the way he's been looking at her all this time. But, huh. Kind of weird to marry someone on the team right?" Lisbon has to start laughing.
Even the normally neutral Cho looks confused now. He doesn't understand what's going on, because he assumes that Jane has already told Lisbon everything. Jane's look is more desperate than ever.
Lisbon interrupts the uncomfortable silence, "Well, that's up to her. I for one could not do such a thing. So back to the topic... Why are the kids with Van Pelt and Rigsby? Can't the father watch them? Where is he anyway? Why isn't he here?"
Cho is a lot more confused now. "He is." he finally asks.
"What is he?" Teresa asks.
Lisbon stands with her back turned to Jane. The latter tries to give Cho hand signals to shut up and just stop talking. Cho sees Jane's movements, but doesn't read anything into it, since he doesn't understand what the consultant is getting at. He doesn't really care either, since he stopped asking questions a long time ago.
"He's here," Cho answers dryly and neutrally as always.
Now Lisbon is confused as well. "Here in town or here in the FBI building?"
Cho deduces from Lisbon's confusion that the blow to the head was a bit stronger than thought after all.
Jane is still flailing his arms around like crazy behind Lisbon's back, with high hopes that Cho will finally just shut his mouth.
"In this room," Cho now replies to Lisbon's question.
Lisbon just doesn't understand anything anymore. The only feeling she has at that moment is pure confusion.
Jane looks at Cho angrily.
Still confused, she turns to Jane, who at that same moment has stopped waving his arms around and changed his annoyed look to a desperate grin.
"I'm married to Cho and have kids with him too?" whispers Lisbon quietly to the blond.
Jane thought it was impossible to get any more desperate, but at that moment his desperation had peaked.
"You're married to Jane" Cho blurts out icily and without a single emotion.
Lisbon starts laughing out loud and says wryly, "Yes, of course"
