She took the tour in the late afternoon. Rather, she insisted on it and limped after Alby when he came by and told her to stay in bed. He ended up having to support her the whole way out after she almost tripped multiple times.

"You sure are a stubborn one," Alby huffed in a low voice as he helped her settle on both feet in the grass.

Because of her condition, they couldn't move around much. They stayed in the middle part of the glade and Alby pointed out the different areas and the various wooden shelters, explaining what they were. She was amazed at the scenery but also shocked at what she saw around the entire grounds. Endless walls that reached much too far into the sky.

Alby explained the three rules to her. Introduced a few of those who passed by and regarded her with a rather common awed look playing about their faces but she had already forgotten their names. All males. No females.

The atmosphere was heavy despite the sunny day. The sun was directly above the glade and the temperature was quite unbearable. She was suddenly glad that she had listened to Newt and finished the bowl of food he had brought her earlier. She was already feeling light-headed from the walk and the heat.

After the tour, Alby took her among the shades of the open sleeping area where a mass of hammocks hung from the wooden pillars. Alby brought her some water and continued to fill her in about the different jobs people had in the glade. He sounded tired and drained. She also noticed a sadness in his voice. However, she couldn't know where to begin to ask about it. Besides, she was overwhelmed enough.

Alby left her sitting and hurried away at some point to take care of some business. She was left alone sitting on the wooden plank elevated nearby. She sat quietly, observing her surroundings, still wondering if this was all a nightmare.

She couldn't make a run for it now. She would have to plan her escape if she would. After getting the tour and Alby's answers to most of her pressing questions, she got a slightly bigger picture of what she had been plunged into. But it didn't make her feel any better about it.

She would have to wait for her leg to heal completely and, in the meantime, decide on how to get out - whether it be through those doors of that wall she had been facing until the sun began to set or some other door she will have to find.

She felt uneasy about being the only female in the glade. No-one had acted particularly threatening to her as of yet but she could not help but feel constantly on guard. It didn't make sense. Perhaps they were hiding something. Perhaps there was a reason why there were only males here - a reason they would not reveal to her.

A million suspicions swept through her mind as she observed the doors in the wall again. At that moment, she saw a few figures running into the glade, coming in from the outside. She realized that they were the runners that Alby had briefly mentioned to her about.

The fact that there was a maze beyond those walls was so bizarre that she half thought Alby was lying. But seeing the Runners coming in set in a new weight of yet another thing she had to potentially figure her way through if she was going to escape this place.

"Enjoying the view?"

She jumped a little and turned to see a boy she recognized to be as one of the passers-by during her tour. He was muscular with a strong jawline and soft, curly brown hair. He was smiling at her as he made his way next to her, sitting down without noticing her shifting away.

"What's your name?" He asked her.

She didn't answer.

"Ok. Well, I'm Elias. Just thought you looked a little lonely. Did Alby help you set up your hammock yet? I could help ya with that if you need."

She shook her head lightly and looked back toward the walls as she noticed some of the Runners disappear into the forest. He felt too close and his voice sounded too loud and distracting right next to her left ear.

"The glade is at a bit of a low point right now. We just lost a friend, George. He died in the evening right before you arrived. We finished up the grave-work this afternoon."

She turned to face him at this. Elias looked back at her, clearly excited to have caught her attention.

"Died? How do people d-"

"Greenie."

She turned around to see Nick behind them. He looked like a mess compared to when she first saw him that morning. His hair was matted to his face and his eyes were swollen.

"I see you've met Elias," he nodded to the other boy who nodded back rather disappointedly.

"I'm here to get you for dinner. Might as well eat with everyone now that you're officially out. You ok with that?"

She nodded, not wanting to return to that room she had been stuck in, unconscious for the past two days.

"Hey I can take her, Nick. You should take it easy, man." Elias offered next to her.

Nick gave a faltering smile and answered, "Thanks El, I'm fine though. I'll help Greenie. Alby specifically asked me to."

"Officially stepped up in command now, eh?"

"I guess."

"Well I'm off then, Gally will nag me if I forget to lock up the tool shed again."

"Alright see you later, El"

Elias looked towards her again and smiled. His wide grin showed his straight white teeth which she found hard to return.

She felt drained suddenly from all this interaction.

Nick approached closer to her and kneeled down, offering a hand. She didn't take it. She hated the fact that she needed someone to help her walk.

Nick sighed softly and took her hand from her lap anyway. He gently wrapped her arm around his shoulders and proceeded to pull her up. He was much taller compared to her so he bent a little to keep to her level.

"Come on, Greenie. Let's go eat. I'll introduce you to Frypan, he wants to say hi."
