Just finished rereading the manga Goku vs Piccolo Jr fight...and man...was it crazy.
OG Dragon Ball did not hold back in its brutality.
Dragon Ball Super has little to no blood and that's what I feel is holding a lot of the tension back. That and its before the end of Z which negates the 'will they survive' type thing for the Universal Tournament.
If you haven't noticed, I did go back and change how the gamer system worked.
Warning: This is not a fic where the MC goes SSJ Omega Kaioken x500 in like 3 chapters and destroys every villain, that's not the kind of fic I'll be writing. It'll be a gradual process for him to get more powerful as he learns what it truly means to be 'The Gamer'.
I do not own 'Dragon Ball' or 'The Gamer'
It was a little past midday as the sun's rays beamed down from the sky and through the window.
I was currently sitting at a round table with my brother sitting beside me. This was around the time when I taught Goku basic education as it will help shave off plenty of time once he begins training with Master Roshi. Hopefully making him stronger in the long run.
It also will at least make him aware of the things people talked about rather than being ignorant of it. He was my family after all. I wanted him to grow both in power and in mind.
As of right now, I was currently tackling one big issue with him. Well, it was more his canon counterpart, but my point still stands.
"Alright Goku, I want you to repeat what I just said," I requested as he gulped at the intensity of my stare, "Come on now."
"Marriage is not food," He whispered as I coughed twice.
"I couldn't quite hear you," I cupped one of my hands on my ear and leaned closer, "What did you say?"
"Marriage is not food!" This time, the spiky-haired boy shouted as I nodded in approval.
"And you better remember that," I snorted as Goku had a puzzled look, "It's very important."
"Why is it important Saru?" He asked raising his eyebrow a bit, "I don't see how it will help me?"
"Believe me brother, you will be saved for a lifetime of trouble," I answered as he gave me a strange nod, "Promise me you'll remember."
If Goku wants to marry Chichi out of his own volition and not because of miscommunication, then so be it, but I'll be damned if he agrees to something that went over his head.
"I promise," He gave me a wide grin that practically forced a smile on my face. The goof was a ball of sunshine that I couldn't quite describe, and to be honest, I liked it that way, "I'm going to go check up on grandpa now!"
"That's fine, but don't stay there too long like before," I casually stated while cleaning up the table, "Last time, you fell asleep and I had to carry you inside."
He simply gave me a thumbs up and headed out the door as I shook my head.
I got to my feet and looked outside with a sigh.
I should start hunting now.
I stood a fair distance away from the house facing a fairly large-sized tree as I concentrated on my Ki.
The breeze picked up somewhat as my hair swayed in a single direction, following the rhythm of the wind. My Black Gi moved in tandem to the tune of the air as I focused inwards.
For the past year, I've been training several things. Whether it was my [Ki Enhancement] skill, my Oozaru transformation, or just becoming physically stronger. I've been making some progress with the transformation, but it's been a slow march.
Of course, this didn't mean I neglected my sibling as I wanted to teach him the basic understandings of things that concerned the world at large. Sadly, grandpa didn't have many things about the planet, he was a hermit after all.
As it stands now, I believe it's time to work on other aspects regarding my life energy.
The sphere containing my latent life force was somewhat more potent than when I first unlocked it, but I suppose that's a given when taking my additional practice into account.
In a single motion, I mentally placed my hands into the orb as the action set small ripples throughout its circular form. I felt myself getting stronger as the energy I called upon was slowly guided into my arm. My eyes closed as I began to focus entirely on myself. I needed to keep a steady pace as that was a requirement to draw on my Ki without any sort of distractions. Especially for a beginner such as myself.
The power flowed through my arm as it gradually made its way to my hand. I clenched my right fist as I could feel the heat radiating from it. My eyes shot open as I focused my attention on the tree ahead, letting my Ki discharge from my hand, and launching a blue orb that was roughly the size of a basketball at it.
"Ha!"
The ball of energy crashed into the tree, leaving a sizable dent.
New Skill Created!
Ki Ball Lvl 1
By focusing your energy on a concentrated area, you are capable of creating a sphere of destruction. Masters of this ability can control it at long distances.
(16 Damage)
(120 KP)
That...was simpler than I expected. Then again, Saiyans have an easier time grasping Ki attacks as a whole. It likely also had something to do with my Ki User perk as well. The cost for this skill was annoyingly high, but it'll go down once I practice with it more. 120 was likely the bare minimum to use the skill
My [Ki Enhancement] skill was likely increasing the damage output.
I had been waiting to create this as I wanted to build up my reserves before doing so. I'll assume that the more energy I pour into it, the damage will increase, that's only logical after all.
Once I reached a high enough level for the [Ki Ball] skill, I'd be able to replicate attacks such as the [Hellzone Grenade] or the [Spirit Ball].
That will be some time though, as I'm sure that the more powerful a skill becomes, the difficulty in increasing its strength will go up accordingly.
Perhaps I could practice flying at this rate.
I knew once I'd be able to create this technique, Goku should be able to replicate it similar to what he did to the Kamehameha.
'You're funny Saru!'
A smile began to gradually make its way onto my face as the memory resurfaced.
'You think too much!'
Even now, before the series technically even begins, the hints of Ultra Instinct were whispering within my brother's mind.
I knew teaching him earlier would protect him against any kind of ripple effect my existence caused, which was likely to happen either now or later.
+1 INT
It's in everyone's interest that we build the foundations now as the sun is beginning to set.
"Hey, Goku!" I shouted in the direction of the house, "Come out here for a second!"
I waited for a few minutes, but he answered with silence. Usually, he'd yell back as he normally does, I knew he wasn't out hunting because we do that around midday. Slightly confused, I casually walked home and opened the door.
"Bro?" I called looking around the house for any sign of him, but to no avail, "Where is that knucklehead?"
Quickly leaving the house, I went to the only place I knew he could be.
Grandpa's house.
The building itself was small and had few amenities with furniture and a well nearby. Grandpa used to live here alone until he found Goku and me. He then built a larger home for the three of us to live in. I don't remember Goku staying in anything other than Gohan's place in the anime, so it's safe to say that my presence changed that aspect.
The small cabin was regularly cleaned by us as although nobody was living in it anymore, it was mostly a reminder to not forget about the person who raised us. Now that I think about it, Goku has been making more trips here than he normally would, this wasn't extremely concerning, but it's mostly just my curiosity taking hold. I chuckled at that thought, I was a lot more like Goku than I realized..
I gently pulled the door open as the hinges creaked upon doing so.
"Buddy? Are you here?"
The room was silent, but I could see him whimpering slightly as I made my way towards him.
With a few steps forward, I entered the room while he slowly turned around.
"S-S-Saru?"
His face was now in full view as I stopped in my tracks, somewhat shocked at his current state.
He was sitting on the floor with his knees curled up into his chest and his tail was wrapped around his waist. His eyes were bloodshot red which was an obvious sign that he was crying.
"What's wrong bro?" I asked, closing the distance between us and crouching to his side.
"I know why Saru…" His arm slowly moved to clutch onto my own, "I know why grandpa left…"
I felt my heart climb to my throat as he said that. This was not something I'd expect from my sibling to even say, let alone mourn to this degree.
He hasn't been like this since that night...
"What do you mean?" I questioned, fearing that Goku must have found out about our Oozaru transformation.
"It was my fault…" He wiped his face as I listened intently, "He's gone because I...I didn't listen to him!"
"Goku…"
I've never really thought about him grieving his...our grandfather's death due to his happy-go-lucky nature, it made sense if you looked at the story closely. Every time Gohan was brought up it was always in a somber tone from Goku. When he found out about the transformation from Vegeta, he was grieving in his own way. Of course, he couldn't do it at that moment due to being chased by the giant ape, but my point still stands.
That day was something I hadn't gone over ever since I merged with 'Saru' and received this game-like power. It was something that was left in the corner of my mind. Even before the merging process, I didn't have time to think about it ever since I've taken over grandpa's position as head of the house.
Maybe this was my way of dealing with it...
Perhaps it's time I faced the problem head-on.
Briefly scanning through my memories with some reluctance, I began to recall the events of that fateful day.
I trekked through the woods of Mount Paozu with Goku as we each carried a fish nearly ten times our size.
"Looks like mine is bigger than yours, Saru!" My brother giggled as I glared at him.
"Whatever," I responded by rolling my eyes, but that only prompted him to grin further, "We're going to eat this together anyways."
"I bet I could run back home faster than you too!"
With a glance to my side, I knew he was baiting me to race with him knowing he would win. It was obvious, but a sudden urge to follow through with his plan caused me to grin.
"You're on!" I shouted back as we began to race home at breakneck speeds.
The animals resting atop the trees and laying in the grass were startled by a sudden burst of winds blasting their faces, crashing some of them to the ground. The only thing they were able to see were blurs of blue and black dashing off in the distance.
I felt my legs begin to tire out as Goku gradually got ahead of me. He flashed a snarky grin as I pumped more power into my legs to keep up.
After a short while, we were able to make it home at around the same time, but in different conditions.
"That was fun!" Goku shouted, adjusting the large salmon on his back, "We should do it again!"
"You're crazy," I replied trying to catch my breath, "I have no idea how you have the energy to do that."
"That's because you read those silly books," He laughed loudly as I sighed, "You need to train more!"
"Ughh," I groaned in response, not caring about his demands as we both stopped at the door.
"Do you smell that?"
I nodded as my eyes were similar to an owl in the night.
The sounds of sizzling meat were on the other side of the door as we could hear it. Without hesitation, we rushed inside and found exactly what we expected.
A short stubby old man with small dark eyes, a bushy white mustache, and eyebrows smiled as he heard us burst in. He wore a Chinese martial arts uniform, which consists of a sleeveless orange jacket over a long-sleeved black shirt, and wore a green hat.
"Grandpa!"
"Ah, there you are," His smile was something I would never be sick of seeing, "Quite the catch you two found."
"Yup," Goku said, pulling his chest forward, "And mine is way bigger than Saru's!"
"Is not!" I was getting somewhat irritated at Goku's proclamation now.
"Is too!" He countered by spinning around to me and showing me his fish, "Just look at it!"
"That's enough," Grandpa Gohan shook his head as he ruffled both of our spiky hairs, "Goku, why don't you take both of your catches and store them in the freezer. Saru, you can help me cook while your brother is doing that."
We agreed without hesitation.
"Impressive," Gohan said as I began to finish cooking the deer he found, "I know I taught you some things, but I'm honestly quite shocked."
"Things like this…" I didn't know what to say honestly, things like this were easy for me to do, "Just came naturally to me."
He chuckled lightly as we worked together to speed up the process. It didn't take us long to finish our assigned tasks and begin feasting on our food.
"Hmmm," The elderly man scratched his beard as he stared at the calendar in front of him, "So it's today huh?"
"Is something wrong?" I asked curiously as he frowned, eyeing the piece of paper in his hand.
"It's going to be a full moon tonight," He said in an unusually serious tone, but we knew why, "You know what that means."
"The monster is coming," Goku said with a stuffed mouth, as I had to hold my breath to not laugh at him trying to be serious, "Why can't we just beat it up."
"How many times has grandpa told you?" I rolled my eyes as he stared at me confusingly, "It's too strong for us, only gramps has the speed to run away from it."
"It's true, only I'm capable of escaping its power," He slumped into his seat as a sorrowful look appeared on his face, though I didn't know why, "I am not capable of defeating it. Even if I could, I wouldn't want to..."
"Wow...even grandpa can't beat it," Goku stated in amazement as I snorted, "It must be really strong then."
There he goes again getting all excited for a fight.
At least I can hide it.
"Let's just finish our food alright," Gohan stifled a laugh as we began eating at lightning speeds, but he didn't mind as he's already become accustomed to it.
We talked for a few hours, beginning with Goku sprouting about how he took a pack of wolves all by himself and defeated them all with barely a scratch. Our grandfather listened closely to his tale, as I already knew it because he kept blabbering his mouth most of the trip back home.
He was extremely patient with both of us, especially when we were younger. Gohan had told us how we were wild when he found us, attacking him constantly without remorse. Once we both fell down the ravine, our personalities began to differ from one another.
My brother was just as fierce, akin to a warrior, but equally kind as he learned through each of his experiences. I, on the other hand, became more curious about the world. While my siblings learned better through combat, I digested information through the books grandpa hands me every time he comes back from the village. It's the reason why I know all of these 'big words' as Goku would call it.
"Why don't you two go to sleep now, it's starting to get late," Gohan instructed as I nodded in understanding while my twin groaned at the thought.
"Maybe if we all fight together, the monster will go away!" He said wagging his tail, likely due to thinking that was a good idea.
"Even if we fought all at once, based on what grandpa said it wouldn't work," I knew whatever beast he was talking about must be insanely powerful, even much stronger than the dinosaurs I've read about.
"Indeed," He regarded me with a nod of his own as his attention turned back to my brother, "While I appreciate you trying to help Goku, we shouldn't take any chances."
Oddly enough, I see him tense for just a moment before it quickly evaporates, giving in to his calm facade.
With some reluctance from the resident knucklehead, we headed to our shared room for the night, as grandpa stated he'd get some firewood for us to have in the morning. He made sure to cover over the window curtains for 'the monster to not see us'. The curtains themselves were meant to keep any kind of light trying to enter the room nonexistent. I had asked him why he had them, but he simply said it was for our protection which I understood.
The night slowly approached, as darkness swallowed the last light we could see from the small space under the door. I wasn't particularly feeling tired, so I grabbed one of the books under my bed and began my usual reading.
"This is so boring," Goku muttered after about an hour as he started to get out of his bed, "I'm going to go check on grandpa if he's okay."
"Goku!" I snapped my head towards him with a fierce glare that forced him to pause, "What do you think you're doing?"
"I'm going to take a peek outside," He keened, jumping to the floor with a thump, "I just want to see how strong the monster really is."
"But he said we can't-"
"I know, but maybe…" Goku hesitated for a moment, considering his options, "Maybe if we know what it is, we can get strong enough to beat it…"
I let out a tired sigh.
"You know what," I said, putting the book back under the bed as I pressed my head against my pillow, "I'll let you make the decision."
With my very good hearing, I detected his footsteps shuffling between the door and his bed. Then, there was a sudden shift as the door creaked open, letting me know he left.
I didn't really care at this point as I'm exhausted due to training, helping Goku with hunting trips, and assisting grandpa with preparing food.
My eyes were shut as I finally started to fall asleep.
...
Until I heard a small growl that prompted me to gradually awaken.
"What in the world?" I grumbled as the noise grew louder to the point that it was practically a roar, "What's going on?"
Only once I stepped out of the entire house did most of it collapse and I was forced to jump away to gain some distance.
"Goku! Grandpa!" I shouted in fear, as I waved the smoke from the debris away from my face, "Th...The monster is here!"
The house was in shambles.
My family was nowhere in sight.
Another roar echoed into the stars as the area rumbled, which demanded me to drop on the ground.
For a moment, it was like the world had stopped rotating as I fixed my gaze upwards. I couldn't see anything other than glowing red eyes that towered above me like a mountain looking down on an ant. I wasn't able to see what it was, but I didn't care as my legs began to move.
An explosion came from what I presumed to be the house as I tried to scramble onto my feet. Just as I gained my balance, a small portion of the debris crashed into me as I screamed in pain.
My eyes began to close as my vision appeared to dim.
The only thing I was capable of making out was Grandpa Gohan's back facing me as he met the demonic eyes head-on.
I rubbed my brother's back as he continued to keep his knees close to his chest.
I was partially to blame for just letting Goku out like that, even if you take into account the exhausted state I was in.
This was something I haven't looked back on ever since I was forced into this body, but now that I knew what exactly was happening, it was an even worse experience to recall.
"It's not your fault Goku. I could've stopped you, but I was being an idiot."
He didn't reply to my comment, merely allowing his head to rest on my shoulder. Seeing the most joyful person in and out of the series was something that was completely foreign to me.
"Do you want to sleep here again?" I asked as he responded with a nod, "I'll get the blankets."
Standing up, I headed back home in order to grab the sheets as Goku waited patiently where I left him.
Reputation change with Son Goku (Kakarot)
Exalted - Maxed
I raised both of my eyebrows as I opened the drawers.
The reputation system maxing out was something I didn't think was possible, though I've only just begun to realize what this 'game' thing was. I had no intention of telling anyone unless it was completely necessary.
Lightly jogging in the direction of where I left my brother, I frowned remembering what my intention was with him today.
Perhaps at some point in the future, I can finally start training Goku in Ki, but today wasn't the time. He needed support and I would be there for him, even if I couldn't grieve myself strangely enough. Perhaps it had something to do with all the knowledge that I had and acknowledging grandpa doesn't want to come back.
I opened the door heading back into the room as we rested for the night.
POV CHANGE
A genius.
No.
She was beyond genius.
From completing school before her classmates could even blink to creating machines scientists would dream of making.
Bulma knew exactly where her priorities were, and she would take advantage of every little thing that caught her eye. From experimenting with a new product and selling it out or when she gets angry, buying an entire mall because of bad service.
You do not trifle with Bulma Briefs.
This is what many people assumed about the heiress to Capsule Corporations, as her well-known status in West City caused many to think a multitude of things concerning her.
It was honestly starting to get on her nerves.
Was she intelligent? Of course.
Amazing in everything she did? Unquestionably.
Beautiful? Damn right.
Perhaps the rumors about her did have some merit to them.
Nevertheless, she was pacing around the doorway, waiting for a specific person to come through.
As if her prayers were answered, a short stocky man had exited the room. His hair was bluish-gray and he had a large gray mustache. He donned a white lab coat with a blue undershirt and black pants. He also wore a pair of large rectangular glasses and a cigarette resting on his lips.
"Dad!" Bulma shouted in relief as she confronted him, "Did you find it?"
"Somehow I did after looking through all that garbage," He stated while pulling an ominous orange orb out of his pocket, "The basement needs some cleaning after that."
She squealed, barely registering what he said, while taking the ball out of his hands.
"What exactly did you say that thing was anyways?" He asked, raising an eyebrow in confusion.
"It's a Dragon Ball dad, more specifically the two-star." Her hands slowly rotate the orb in a mesmerizing manner, "Apparently, if all seven are brought together you can wish for anything."
"Are you sure that fable is actually reliable?" Dr. Briefs skeptically said though he wasn't that concerned, "You'd just be going around wasting time."
"So?" Bulma said in an annoyed fashion, "Even if it isn't, I want to see the world rather than stay in this boring city all the time."
"In any case," Her father sighed, turning his gaze back to the mystical Dragon Ball, "How exactly are you going to track the rest of them?"
She smirked, whipping out a small device with a grid map as its screen.
"This right here is a Dragon Radar. The Dragon Balls emit a faint electromagnetic pulse, which the radar should be able to detect without much of a problem."
"I see," The president of Capsule Corps turned around and began to leave his daughter to her devices, "I hope you know what you're doing."
"Give me a year and it should be working perfectly fine," Bulma declared as she clutched the device in her hand, "Unlimited strawberries will be mine."
Her possible wish was something that could use some...tweaking, but she can worry about that issue another time. Hurrying back to her room, Bulma starts getting to work on the Dragon Radar in boredom.
Little did she know, what was supposed to be a small side project could perhaps save the entire world. Maybe even the universe.
Only the future will tell.
