Chapter 3- The Oni Village
As a calm breeze blue through the air, 3 guys walked through the village heading towards the village chief in the main hall of the village. As Subaru walked through the village with the two men, Subaru looked around to see the surroundings. It was a small village probably holding up to 30 people or more judging from the amount of houses in the area.
Subaru: "seems like a small village, maybe there might be someone here who knows about Japan ...but i don't know these people yet or their intentions so i'll have to be on guard for now" Subaru thought to himself
Subaru: "Also where is everyone? I know this is a small village but i thought i would at least see some people around here, maybe it's late out, but that wouldn't make much sense since when i was in japan it was was the beginning of morning" Subaru said looking around to see no one in site
getting lost in thought Subaru heard a voice call his name
Alec: "Yo Subaru you ok? You look anxious"
Subaru: "Oh it's nothing i was just looking around and noticed your village is pretty small, also where is everyone? It seems too early for people not to be outside"
Alec: "Well of course our village is small,Weren't you not listening earlier? Are people are on the verge of extinction there are only a handful of us left, that's the reason we chased you earlier remember? Also what are you talking about? It's getting late out so of course no one would be outside"
Subaru: "That's strange, when i was in Japan it was the start of the day, maybe where i am now the time zone is somewhat different?" Subaru thought to himself
Subaru: "and yeah i remember, you know you didn't need to chase me down, you could have just asked" Subaru said looking up at him with an annoyed look
Alec: "Hey you were the one who decided to hide and run, if you just didn't run away we wouldn't have had to interrogate you, hey maybe if you be a good boy this time we won't have to ruff you up too much how does that sound?" Alec said with a smug smirk
Subaru: "Hey don't go acting all high and mighty now!"
Alec: "heh your one to talk, a kid like you shouldn't be running their mouth off to their elders" Alec said patting Subaru on the head
Subaru: "Stop treating me like a kid! And what do you mean by elder? You don't look that much older than me!" Subaru said brushing Alec's hand off his head
In reality Alec was in his early 20's while Subaru looked like he was about 8 or 10 years old, so the age gap between them was very noticeable
Alec: "Well maybe if you weren't actually a kid i wouldn't be treating you like one would i now?"
Subaru: "Shut up!"
Both of them starting going back and forth until Drew spoke up who heard the two arguing behind him
Drew: "can you two stop fighting? Were about to reach the village main hall to speak to the chief, you two can show a little respect" Drew said looking behind him to the two fighting
Subaru: "I don't think me and you will get along very well" Subaru said looking up at Alec
Alec: "Hahaha, i think me and you will get along very well" Alec said laughing to himself
The three of them kept walking through the village until they stopped at the village main hall. Drew walked up to the door and knocked a few times, hearing no response he knocked again, hearing a voice come from the other side
?: "What do you want, i'm in the middle of something right now"
Drew: "sorry to bother you sir but is it ok if we come in for a bit? We have something important we want to talk with you about"
"..."
A few seconds of silence past until
?: "You may enter" the voice said with an annoyed tone
Pushing the door open the three of them walked in, the room was slightly lit with a few candles, with the room smelling off tobacco
?: "Yes so what do you two want to talk about? i'm busy right now"
Drew: "We're sorry to intrude sir, but there's something important we must talk with you about"
Setanta: "Well spit it out i don't have all day, i must get back to work soon"
Subaru looked up at the man that was sitting at a desk in the room, he was an old man probably past his prime with grey hair and brown eyes. Soon enough the man spotted Subaru behind Alec
Setanta: "Who is that boy behind you?"
Drew: "Well that's actually what we came here to talk to you about, you see me and Alec were patrolling outside the village walls and found this boy wandering around in the field nearby"
Setanta: "So you came to me in the middle of my work to tell me you brought a stranger into our Village?" Setanta said with an annoyed look
Drew: "Nonono, you got it all wrong sir, we came here to tell you this boy isn't any ordinary boy, hes of the Oni race"
Setanta looked surprised, his eyes widened and looked at the boy before him
Setanta: "So you're saying this boy is a part of our race? That's impossible, our race is getting wiped out by the second we are the last remaining Oni" Setanta said with a suspicious look, looking down at Subaru
Alec: "He's telling the truth sir, we smelled him from a far and he has the smell of an Oni, we wouldn't bring a random human kid into our village" Alec said butting into the conversation
Setanta: "Hmm you are right i can smell it faintly emanating off him, but that still doesn't explain where you found him, our village is very hidden amongst the forest and trees, you can't stumble across our village on accident unless..."
Alec: "Honestly we are just as clueless as you are, we don't know where he came from, we just found him walking around outside the gate like Drew said"
Setanta: "is that so... boy come forward i would like to have a word with you" Setanta said gesturing Subaru to come forward
Subaru not wanting to upset the man who seemed to not be in a good mood walked from behind Alec and towards him
Setanta: "what's your name boy"
Subaru: " Subaru, Natsuki Subaru"
Setanta: "Where did you come from and how did you find this village?"
Subaru: "Uhh… i came from a place called Japan… and i don't know how i got here, i just woke up and was here" Subaru said in a anxious tone from all the questioning feeling like he was being interrogated right now
Setanta: "Jap-an? Never heard of it before, you're not lying to me are you boy?" Setanta said in a stern tone
Subaru: "No i'm not lying i'm telling the truth! I really did come from a place called japan"
The tension in the room was getting greater by the second as the man stared down at Subaru with a suspicious look
Alec: "That's the thing sir, Subaru wanted to come here to talk to you about if you have any clue or knowledge on this place called Japan"
Setanta: "Hmm, no i don't think so, like i said i've never heard of this place, the only countries i know of are the four great nations, Vollachia, Kararagi, Gusteho and the kingdom of Lugnica, the place where we are now"
Subaru: "So you're saying you have zero knowledge on Japan?" Subaru said looking down to the floor trying not to cry again
Setanta: "No i'm sorry boy but a place like that doesn't exist here to my knowledge, maybe someone in the main capital can help you out, maybe one of the wise men know"
Alec: "That is true, they have the knowledge of many things they might know what that place is"
Subaru looking up at Alec with a slight bit of hope left in his eyes asked
Subaru: "So you really think one of these people might know where Japan is"
Alec: "Well i'm not sure but they might, it's worth a shot right?" Alec said smiling down at Subaru
Setanta: "Well to the main topic at hand, your saying this boy here is from the Oni race?"
Drew: "Yes sir he really is, we wouldn't come here and bring you false information"
Setanta: "Well i know he has the smell on him but i must confirm my suspicions" Setanta said walking up towards Subaru
Subaru: "I don't understand why you guys keep calling me an Oni? I'm huma-hghg!"
When Subaru was about to finish his sentence, Alec bent down and put his hand over his mouth to muffle his voice
Setanta: "What was that?"
Alec: "Oh probably nothing important, Subaru here has quite the attitude, didn't want him to say anything rude just now"
Setanta: "Oh is that so, well we already have enough of that around here" Setanta said thinking back to that one girl in the village that had quite the attitude
While Alec had his hand over Subaru's mouth, Subaru finally broke free
Subaru: "What was that for all of a sudden!?"
Alec: "Oh it's nothing just let the chief continue with what he was doing going to do" Alec said with a smirk looking at Subaru
Subaru: "I'm going to wipe that smug smirk off his face sooner or later" Subaru thought to himself
Setanta: "Well then stay still boy, this might hurt a bit" Setanta said walking up to Subaru and kneeling down in front of him putting his hands in two places on his forehead
Subaru: "...What are you doing?"
"..."
Silence grew around the room for a few seconds until
Subaru: "AHHHH!"
Subaru screamed in pain as he felt something coming out of his forehead, and a few moments later two glowing white horns sprouted out from his forehead. Subaru feeling too much pain collapsed from exhaustion and fell unconscious on the floor
Setanta: "So it's true then, he really is an Oni"
Drew: "Yes he is but was that really necessary sir? We already confirmed he was from his smell?
Setanta: "Well it doesn't matter now he's unconscious, what we need to know now is what to do with him, Alec i want you to look after him while he's here so you bring him back to your home"
Alec: "No worries, i was planning to do that anyways" Alec said picking up Subaru from the ground and lifting him up in his arms
As the two walked outside leaving Setanta and Drew alone, Setanta spoke up
Setanta: "Drew i need you to do something"
Drew: "Yes sir?"
Setanta: "i need you to keep an eye on that boy from now on, to make sure he doesn't do anything suspicious alright, even though he's an Oni we still don't know the boy, so i would like you to keep a close eye on him"
Drew: "Yes sir"
While Alec was walking outside, It was beginning to turn dark. While walking through the village Alec reached his home and tucked Subaru into bed
Alec: "Well he looks peaceful in his sleep, much better than how he acts awake. Well i better go to bed too, it's been a long day" Alec said getting into bed next to Subaru
