New paths to follow
Chapter Three
After changing his uniform in his quarters. Commander Lee Crane having kept the position for the Nelson Institute. Lee went looking for Captain Chip Morton finding out he was inside the reactor room with two others working.
Opening the hatchway of the reactor seeing that his friend was checking the gauges in the back of the room. He wasn't too pleased with the energy outputs of the gauges on the control panel.
"I just don't like this Lt. Ross." Captain Morton had to say with turning to see his friend waiting inside. "Is there something I can do for you, Commander Crane?" he said with some type of annoyance with his demeanor.
"Actually I came to talk with you further about the rescue mission." Lee had to say on the subject with Morton telling the Lieutenant to continue keeping an eye out on the gauges.
Walking outside of the reactor hatchway. Chip faces his friend wondering what was on his mind. "About what Lee? Since everything was discussed in Nelson's office." Morton exclaimed with his standing straight rod in front of his friend.
"There is something that needs to be said in your office about what exactly is going on with the rescue operation Chip." Lee quipped with his words before heading down the corridor to the next level up to his quarters for officer's country.
Reaching inside his office/quarters. Captain Chip Morton wasn't too pleased with his friend's attitude. "Would you mind telling me Lee just what the hell is going on with you?" he commented with sitting down at his desk.
"There is nothing wrong with me Chip. Just because Lt. Robert Baskins is abroad the submarine doesn't mean a thing right now. Other than the fact that there is a spy on board the Seaview heading for Alaska to try and stop the rescue mission."
"Why? What's so important other than to try and rescue Admiral Nelson's friends?" Morton was serious having asked the question.
"A new species has been found by other scientists working the faultline with a crystalline form found buried deep in the ice basin the past year. And there is a possible chance that these new crystalline creatures just might upset the balance of power with other Alliance countries to try to take hold of them, and this is not going to be a good thing with Darien and the United Nations of countries." Lee said to have Morton's expression changed drastically.
"Does the Naval department have any idea Lee as to who it just might be?" Morton cried out with an emotional response.
"There are 30 new crewmembers onboard the Seaview Captain. It's been difficult having to check into all of their backgrounds." Lee expressed himself with a deep breath.
"Lee do you want anything to drink before going back to your observations?" Morton had gotten up to head for the minibar in the back of his office.
"Sure. I will have my usual Chip."

Nelson Institute Lab
Admiral Harriman Nelson and Commander Rose Marie Baskins have been working on trying to figure out what makes the crystallines tick. Ever since a research team had found them dominant inside a small cavern some 30 miles south of the same area of his friends being caught inside the cavern bubble.
There was a possible chance that these creatures might have some type of life that will be able to help out the humans.
Admiral Nelson had been working on a number of tests and while Commander Baskins was setting up a universal translator trying to figure out whether they will be able to communicate.
"Admiral Nelson I am almost ready with the translator?" Rose Marie needed to say. She was working on the different frequencies when all of a sudden she had gotten something from the crystalline inside the container.
"Is it working?" Nelson was anxious when all of a sudden he heard words coming from the creature.
"Why are you making contact with our species," it said with the signals of the translator switching it over to English.
"I am Admiral Nelson of the Nelson Institue we need to know more about your species and why you're here on Earth?" he asks with concern in his demeanor.
"Our planet is dying beyond the ANDROMEDA SYSTEM. We came here getting pulled of your planet's gravitational system. And landed in Alaska ice fields. We don't know how to survive unless we're able to find a way to live." it said for which was somewhat confusing to Admiral Nelson and Commander Rose Marie Baskins.
Rose Marie looked over at Admiral Nelson with a confused look on her face. "I don't get it, Admiral Nelson in what the creature was saying?"
"It seems to me these crystallines are looking in a way to survive with certain conditions of the ice fields and maybe why my friends have been caught inside the bubble?" he commented with making notes on his computer terminal.
"Maybe we need to contact Darien and asked him whether he had ever heard of the crystallines?" she will say to the Admiral when all of a sudden ...
"DARIEN! We know of Darien and his people. We met him and his representatives some fifty years ago to be asked to join the Alliance."
"And did your people join the Alliance?" Admiral Nelson had to ask the question.
"No. During that time our planet was at war with the outer planet for dominance of the system. Our government decided to leave the system asking those willing to leave that were not dying from radiation poisoning."
"Did Darien and his people know about this plan to leave at the time?"
"No. The government thought it was best not to say anything to them and they left the system only to come back only recently from what I am able to understand. Now I have nothing else to say since I need to recharge myself for the next 18 hours."
"Interesting!" Nelson said to Rose Marie to finish up with turning off the universal translator for now."
"Maybe this is why the spy on board the Seaview wants to stop the rescue operation Admiral Nelson because they might have found out about the crystallines?" Rose Marie had to say to Nelson.
