Chapter 1 : First Combat
The starter character of the Princess Saga, Austina Schloegn.
For Aozora, she recalls that Austina is very strong. Her lore is something about being one of the greatest swordsman in her kingdom. Though she is not the best. Her elder sister is much more powerful than her.
And being a Princess, they have the capability to fight against the Rebels.
She recalls that the Rebels on Princess Saga are not really talking about a group of people. Rebel is a term used to a person or an object that was infected by a supernatural negativity. This turns them stronger but they became more frenzied and prone to violence. Nothing can really harm them, not magic, not even conventional weapons.
Only Princess, girls who have something called a Princess Factor, have the capability to fight against a Rebel. Their role is to destroy the influence of negativity to the Rebel and turn them back to their former self.
And that was basically the plot of Princess Saga.
She doesn't know if there are any Rebel in this world. The enemies on Princess Saga is pretty cliched, but thinking about encountering one of them is pretty terrifying.
But she will know if they explore this forest.
'Yeah... but I still can't believe that I will meet THAT Austina in the flesh!' She thought with an excited expression.
Due to playing Idle Games since she was a child, she thinks that most characters she saw on the Idle Games were cool. Austina being one of them.
She knows even her Voice Actress. Her background and even all the events that Austina have.
'I know she loves adventure and heroic tales. Her family always read her the stories about heroes so she also dreamed of becoming just like them. Going around the world, meeting new friends, fighting powerful foes, creating a legend that will be written in the history.' Aozora thought as she looks at Austina.
"Milady, where should we go first?" Austina asks while she was glancing around her surroundings.
"Ah!" Aozora got out of her musings before she responded. "Why don't we look for any signs of civilization. I think it will be good if we can find somewhere safe before the night arrives." Aozora said to the Princess.
"Okay! I'll lead the way!" Austina cheerfully said before she took the front and walk on the direction ahead of them.
Aozora followed up.
As they are walking, she can hear Austina humming a tune. There is a spring in her steps as she leads her.
Aozora don't know what to talk about so she just followed her.
Only the sounds of their footsteps and Austina's humming can be heard. There are also some sounds that seems to be coming from the insects in this forest.
'... This is awkward...' Aozora thought to herself. 'Well, I can't really think of anything to talk to her.' She continues in her thought.
Suddenly, Austina stops and raises her hand. Aozora also stops when she saw that.
"What?" She asks in curiosity.
"There are hostiles in our surroundings." Austina replied to her as she unsheathed her blade.
Her blade is a beautiful thin silver blade with a red sheen in it. It seems like by just looking at it, she can feel some sort of regality in it's form.
As Austina took a stance, ahead of them are three wolves that shows themselves. They seem to be hiding on the trees.
Aozora also heard some crunching sounds on her sides and her back so she looks to see that there are three more wolves on their back and their sides. She realized that they are surrounded.
It was fine if she was still seeing it in the game, but being faced by wolves for real is pretty scary. Though for Aozora, she was just unnerved and a bit anxious at this situation.
"Can you take care of this?" Aozora asks the Princess Knight.
"Don't worry Milady. I shall take care of all these beasts!" She heard Austina says that in a confident tone.
Aozora was still glancing on the wolves surrounding them when she suddenly saw a new panel appearing on her vision.
She recognized it as the panel of the game Princess Saga. Also, the panel was showing the whole area where they are in an overview. Below this screen are the options with the image of her character there.
"Wait... isn't this the battle screen on Princess Saga." Aozora muttered. "But, it looks different. This is not like the battle screen that I know at all. It was showing where we are." She continued while looking at her panel.
The wolves seems to be walking around them. They are trying to gauge any point of weakness to them before they try to attack.
Austina was just staying near Aozora. She is doing this because she knows that if she gets a bit farther than Aozora, the other wolves will try to get into her while she was busy with the others.
She will wait for them and then cut whoever tries to get near them.
They are in a standoff. Aozora doesn't know what she should do other than to get near behind Austina.
It seems like the wolves have gotten tired of waiting because finally, one of them pounces on Austina. The other wolves got a moment of delay before they followed up.
The wolves on their back were targeting Aozora while the other three on the front were going to confront Austina.
It was a near perfect sight of cooperation. This seems to be natural to these wolves being in a pack.
But Austina was much stronger than they thought so.
The first wolf that pounces on Austina was quickly bisected from it's torso by doing a single slash. Then, she quickly got to Aozora's side before swinging her sword to strike the wolf that got near on Aozora.
That wolf yelp in pain as it flew on the distance. It seems like it didn't die because Austina didn't manage to cut it deeply enough.
Austina didn't stop her actions. Just after she was done flinging that wolf out, she took a large stride to quickly get behind Aozora and uses that momentum to strike the wolf that was already in midair in a pouncing manner. It opened it's mouth to bite at Aozora's defenseless nape but Austina's swing hits it on it's torso, cutting it clearly.
Austina then took a stabbing posture and thrusted on the area at the side of Aozora. A wolf was just a moments away from touching Aozora when Austina's sword pierces it on it's head.
She pushes the corpses out of her blade with her other hand before quickly changing her attention to Aozora and grabbing her hand to pull her closer to her.
Aozora almost stumbled when she was pulled besides Austina but due to that stumbling, she manages to barely dodge another wolf who pounces on her front.
Austina then changes to hugging her waist with her free arm and then jumping away at the enemies while her blade was trained on their direction.
Aozora was amazed at how quick she manages to repel the simultaneous attacks of the wolves while also taking care of her. She can't really move because they are surrounded so she just left everything to Austina.
Austina understood that quickly, seeing that Aozora have an appearance that suggest she wasn't used to any combat at all.
'Amazing, she manage to kill three of them in that short moment.' Aozora thought in awe. 'Still, this was a bit too much for my heart...' She thought to herself while feeling the quick pounding on her chest.
While that is happening, Austina took her arms off of Aozora's waist and then she moves to the front while her sword is still pointed at the wolves that are now moving around them.
The wolves seems to be trying to create another formation so they can have a chance to kill at least one of them.
Austina didn't give them the chance though. Because they manage to get out of their encirclement, Austina decided that she should take the initiative to attack in this turn.
So she took a sprint to kill the wolf that was just going to pounce at their way again. The wolves are a bit surprised but they move as one by just their instincts.
They tried to surround Austina and lunges at her but Austina took a stand and did a graceful swing of her sword. This perfectly cuts up the three wolves surrounding her as she did a wide swing. Then, the three wolves died because of the deep wounds that was inflicted at them.
All of the wolves are now defeated.
Aozora look at the sight and felt nauseous at it. Though she managed to barely handle the sight.
It was one thing seeing gore on games and anime, it was another on seeing it in real life.
"Milady, are you alright?"
Aozora looks at Austina who manages to get closer to her before she managed to notice it.
"... Yes, I am fine." Aozora replied while turning her gaze away from the bloody sight.
"I'm glad that you are fine." Austina said with a relieved expression before she looks at the wolves. "Well then, I think we should take at least one of the corpses here." Austina said.
"Why is that?" Aozora asks with a curious look.
"Uhmm... we don't know whether a village is near or not. It will be good to get at least a source of food so we can sustain ourselves while looking for a civilization." Austina answered like it was a matter of fact.
Aozora quickly got the logic on that. Though, she felt a bit queasy at her advice to eat one of these wolves.
"... Is it safe?" Aozora asks in worry.
"Of course! I'll take care of dismantling it! You just need to wait for a bit!" Austina said before she quickly got to one of the corpses.
It seems like she picks the wolf that she stabs in the head. Maybe because it was the wolf that doesn't have much blood or internal parts spilled on the ground.
While waiting for Austina to finish, Aozora told her that she will be sitting on a nearby tree before walking on a tree with a large root in it that she can sit on.
She took her attention back on her game and saw that the battle screen was gone and it was now back to the main screen of Princess Saga.
She goes to the character screen and pick the image of Austina in it. There she sees that she can level her up.
"I acquired 600 EXP from the wolves. That means each of them gives 100 EXP each." She muttered to herself. "And I can quickly level her up to 10 and above. This game have a very low cost of EXP to level up the characters, though it'll exponentially increase as their level goes up." She continued muttering to herself while remembering the function of this game.
Then, she got an idea and she quickly goes to the panel that shows her the list of games. Looking at the EXP, she saw that she also have 600 EXP.
She tries to go back to Princess Saga and try to level up Austina by one. After that, she goes back to look at the EXP that she have on her own status.
"It hasn't change..." Aozora muttered to herself.
Then she repeated that by leveling Austina once again before looking back at the EXP that she owns in her list of games.
"It really hasn't change at all!" Aozora exclaimed in excitement.
The EXP that she acquired from Princess Saga and her status panel seems to be a separate thing. Though it seems like the EXP that her character got will also be given to her status panel.
"Then, I can just use all of my EXP from Princess Saga to level up my only character without worrying about my main EXP being reduced at all!" She said with a fist pump. "This is amazing!" She said cheerfully.
"Milady?" Austina glances at her when she heard her enthusiastic voice.
Aozora felt awkward and she tried to hide her embarrassment by just telling her to not mind it.
After waiting for awhile, Austina was done dismantling one of the wolves. The others were buried by her which causes another delay from their journey.
She saw that Aozora was reluctant leaving these corpses alone in the forest. It might be because she felt disturbed at leaving the corpses of an animal in this forest.
It was an irrational thought that Aozora can't understand why. It doesn't even benefit her from burying them.
So Austina took it upon herself to also bury them. Aozora just let her be.
So it was just noon that they are moving on the forest again with the meat of the wolf being carried by the Princess.
Aozora managed to level her up to 12. And it seems like Austina felt the improvements in her body because she still felt energetic even with that taxing labor that she did awhile ago.
While they are walking, Aozora was thinking of her next plan when they got to a safe place. She wanted to find a place where she can grind EXP safely so she can unlock the other Idle Games.
She felt bored that she can't pass the time with her Idle Games. The game Princess Saga doesn't even provide any entertainment because it wasn't an idle game anymore. The character is now real and was escorting her to the civilization.
'That was my current objective for now. Find a safe place to sleep and unlock my Idle Games so I can play something!' She thought to herself.
Other things are irrelevant to her for now.
