A/N: Thank you for reading. I was surprised to wake up Tuesday morning and see that my little story had already some attraction. This will probably be the final chapter before the time skip. Thanks to my friends from Discord and the helpful commenters on the latest Jenna Moreci video(great channel, would recommend) who helped me with this chapter.
(Updated this chapter to get rid of some plot holes. Thanks, MKDemi-Godzilla-Warrior).
Jacqui entered the office that morning. General Flagg was sitting at his desk. "You wanted to see me, general?" Jacqui said.
"Yes," General Flagg said. "I have found a letter from your past commander, the recently deceased Cassandra Cage. It mentions that she wishes for you to be her successor. The position is yours if you want it."
"This feels kind of soon," Jacqui said.
"Life moves on after death," Flagg said. "Cassandra wouldn't want you to sit around. Kano is still out there. If you want to truly bring her to justice, go out and find her murderer. I'll give you until tomorrow to make your decision. You're dismissed, Sargent Briggs."
"Thank you," Jacqui said. She then exited the office.
Sonya was seated at her desk. She was trying to find where in the realms Kano could have escaped to. Johnny was still in bed since it was still quite early. She was the only person she saw at work now.
Ablaze appeared in front of her. The room didn't catch on fire. Hanzo Hasashi was standing there.
"What are you doing here?" Sonya questioned. The last time these interacted was when he broke into the special forces base. His assassination of Quan Chi had led to Sinnok's second invasion. While the two weren't foes, they weren't the best of friends.
"I wanted to check on you," Hanzo said. "Kuai Liang told me about the mission. I lost my own son a few hundred years ago. I know what kind of unimaginable pain you're going through. I wanted to extend my help through this time."
"I don't know what to say," Sonya said.
"You don't have to say anything," Hanzo said. "You can't spend your entire life working towards revenge."
"I'm not," Sonya said.
"I can tell you haven't slept in a long time," Hanzo said. "I know how revenge can consume a person. Revenge is only momentary relief. Even after killing Quan Chi, I can't close my eyes without seeing my wife and son. It won't ever feel completely better, but some days will be easier. I'm here if you need anything."
"I never expected to get this advice from you," Sonya said.
"I never thought I'd be giving anti-revenge advice," Hanzo confessed. Sonya rested her head on his shoulder. She wasn't seeing him as Scorpion, her fellow combination, at the moment, but Hanzo Hasahi; the grieving parent.
A/N: I know this weird choice. It might have made more sense to have Jax or Johnny doing this, but then I remembered Scorpion's backstory. I knew I had to include him. Question: Is this a friendship you'd like to see more of? Maybe bring Johnny in?
