I don't own Naruto or Rascal Does not Dream of Bunny Girl Senpai

To reviews that want the chapters to be longer, I know 2.4k is still on the short side but I still wanted to get something out.

Naruto woke with a start, instantly he started to panic but then he remembered that someone was taking care of him. Looking out the window, he saw that it was dark outside. He turned his gaze back inside and looked around for a clock, reading the time it said it was 3:00 am.

Trying to get up, Naruto found out something important, he couldn't move. Wondering what to do, he saw something propped up on a chair that was directly next to the couch.

After his night vision adjusted, he read it out loud, "Hello, my name is Mai. I am currently sleeping in the room down the hall. If you wake up, call my name if you need something."

Directly after, he realized how dry his throat was and how his stomach was calling out for food. He started to call her name, getting louder and louder until he heard the door open.

Mai came out to the living room and turned on the light, looking around she saw a pair of blue eyes staring back at her, "Oh, you finally woke up."

"Can I please have some water," the boy croaked out. Mai nodded and went to the kitchen to grab a glass and fill it up. Returning, she sat in the chair and held the glass out for him.

"This is going to be awkward, but I can't move my body right now. Can you please put it to my lips," nodding, Mai proceeded to help the boy drink the water.

After finishing the water, Naruto opened his mouth to say something when the girl burst out with, "WAIT? You can see me?" Naruto nodded his head, but he had gained a confused look on his face.

Once again, Naruto tried to speak but then there was a finger to his lips. The girl shook her head and spoke, "It's my turn for questions, I took care of you and brought you in off the streets. The least you can do is answer my questions for me."

Naruto admitted to himself what she said was fair and nodded his head in agreement.

First, Mai asked a couple of obvious questions, "What is your name and how old are you?"

"The name's Naruto Uzumaki and I'm 16"

"Alright, what were you doing bleeding in the alleyway?"

"Well, that's kind of hard to explain…"

Mai could understand if that was a touchy subject so she decided to let it drop for now, "Alright, last question: Do you have any friends or family that can take you? I have school in 5 hours and I can't take care of you forever."

When hearing that, Naruto seemed to shut down. His face took on a blank expression and he looked up at the ceiling. Mumbling after his breath he said, "I can go if you don't want me."

Not hearing what he said, Mai asked him to repeat that, "I couldn't hear that, could you please repeat that?"

"Goddammit. I'm all alone here, no family, and definitely no friends. In fact, you're the ONLY person I've seen since I've gotten here." After that, a lone tear drifted down his cheek and he whispered a quick apology.

Mai, taken aback by his outburst, had no idea what to do. After seeing the tear, she tried to salvage the conversation, "Well, there has to be someone who cares about you. You probably just don't know it yet. It's late, or early depending on who you ask, how about we continue this conversation later? "

"Yea," was all that Naruto replied with. He had turned his face towards the couch, embarrassed that he had cried in front of her.

"Alright, get some sleep and I'll see you in the morning." With that, Mai walked out of the room and turned off the light.

Mai, who still hadn't completely woken up, instantly went back to sleep. Naruto, on the other hand, did not sleep at all. After Mai left, he started to sob softly. Tears streamed down his cheeks as he berated himself over and over again. 'You're a failure. You couldn't save them. They gave their lives just so you could finish yours.'

Naruto hated himself, he couldn't find meaning in his new life. He would not waste it though, Naruto would be disrespecting his comrades if he threw it away. That didn't mean he would have to enjoy it though.

When he had woken up for the first time, Naruto had already tried to channel chakra to no avail. Naruto had assumed that he lost chakra through the dimension jump and although this was true he did not lose everything. He had kept his rapid healing rate and still had almost inhuman physical abilities.

During those early hours, Naruto's body had healed to the point where he could move. Yet as morning came, he made no efforts to get off the couch.

-7 hours later, 10:00 am-

Mai walked out of her room, she had a fresh change of clothes on (AN: Think the greyish hoodie she wears in the anime) and felt ready for the day. Coming into the living room, Mai's gaze drifted over to the couch.

The boy, now named Naruto, was sitting upright on the couch. He still had the blanket wrapped around him and he was hugging his legs into himself. He looked so defeated, it was kind of frightening for the teenage girl. A few seconds after looking her over Naruto mumbled something out, "Good morning Mai."

Mai was taken aback by how dead his voice sounded like there was absolutely nothing good about the morning. Her voice faltered as she replied, "Good morning Naruto."

After that, they both just sat or stood there. One staring straight at the powered-off tv and the other observing him.

Naruto sighed and attempted to stand up, his knees buckled for a second but he managed to stand up straight. Looking at Mai he said, "I'll leave now, thank you for your kindness. I'll only get in your way." With that, Naruto attempted to limp for the door. He was groaning in pain the whole time but showed no signs of stopping.

Mai rushed over to him and got between him and the door, "Listen, you're still hurt. At least get better before you leave."

Naruto seemed to perk up when hearing this, "Thank you so much, it means a lot." Wanting to show his gratitude, Naruto wrapped her up in a hug. Naruto seemed to forget that his clothes were basically rags and that a bunch of his skin was showing.

Mai flinched and instantly pushed him off, "What the hell? Didn't your parents teach you not to hug random people, even if it's to show gratitude."

"I'm an orphan, I never met my parents," Naruto muttered under his breath as he made his way back to the couch.

"Sorry, could you speak up, I couldn't hear you."

"I said that I had no parents as a kid. That's all," Naruto replied in a louder voice. He sat back down and covered himself with the blanket.

Mai realized her mistake and went to save face, "Well, do you want some food, I can cook pretty well. You haven't eaten in over a day."

Naruto was still under the blanket when he replied, "If you want I guess, I don't really care."

"You need to eat and take care of yourself. Tell you what, if you shower and eat a meal, I will give you something you would really like."

This piqued Naruto's interest, he took the blanket off his head and looked at Mai, "What is it?"

"A secret, just trust me and shower. Consider it a way of you paying me back for taking care of you."

"Fine, I'll do it if it makes you happy. It's all I really know what to do."

Mai was confused, "What do you mean by that?"

"Nevermind, do you think you can help me to the bathroom or shower?"

Nodding her head, Mai walked over to the couch from where she was standing and reached down to him. He grabbed her hand and pulled himself up, Mai almost fell onto the couch but managed to keep her balance.

Wrapping an arm around Mai he turned her and said, "Lead the way."

Mai made her way out of the living room and down the hall to her bathroom. Leading him in, she sat Naruto down on the toilet seat and turned on the water. She then turned back to Naruto and said, "Wait a minute if you want hot water, when you're out I'll bring you some clothes that will fit you. Just call my name, I'll be in the kitchen making us food."

Naruto thanked her and proceeded to take off his shirt, causing Mai to gain a very small blush. When he was about to take off his pants, Mai managed to regain her cool, "Don't get undressed in front of me, pervert."

Naruto replied in a dead tone, "Oh, sorry."

Sighing, Mai made her way out of the bathroom and closed the door. She had already forgotten about how good Naruto's chest looked, well almost.

-20 minutes later-

Mai had just finished cooking when she heard her name being yelled. Rushing into her room, she grabbed a pair of clothes from the haul she had got yesterday. While Naruto was still resting, Mai had gone out and grabbed him 2 pairs of clothes. 2 pairs of pants, 3 hoodies, and some underwear and socks.

Mai walked over to the bathroom and knocked on the door, opening it a crack Naruto reached out and grabbed his clothes. Coming out a couple of minutes later, Naruto looked good. Even if he was short, Mai could still admire his muscular build.

Mai was waiting outside the bathroom door, to help Naruto walk around and said, "Naruto the food is ready." When hearing this, Naruto (with Mai's help) made his way to the dining room and on the table was a delicious-looking breakfast. Mai and Naruto both sat down and began to quietly eat. Naruto made no attempts for conversation and Mai wasn't sure how she should interrupt the silence.

After they finished eating and cleaning their plates, Naruto hobbled over to the couch. He laid down and put a blanket on and consequently fell asleep. Mai watched all this occur and walked over to do something she had been wanting to do. She reached down and stroked Naruto's whiskers, instantly he turned to putty in her hands. Naruto turned over and snuggled into her hands, his face visibly relaxed when she was petting him. Then he made one last noise, he purred. This made Mai's heart melt, no matter how she acted Mai was still a teenage girl. And teenagers love cute things, how this impassive 'Naruto' purred in his sleep. Mai realized she had some things to do so she walked away and let him sleep.

-A couple of hours later, 1:00 pm-

Naruto yawned, he opened his eyes and looked around at the empty living room. Sitting up, he wondered where Mai went. He called out for her and didn't receive a response. Naruto stood up and wondered where she went, he checked every single room and she wasn't there. Naruto figured Mai went out but he still thought it was weird that she left without leaving a note or something along those lines.

Night came and there was still no sign of Mai and Naruto had started to worry. He started to wonder if she had abandoned him, but he decided against it. It wouldn't make sense for Mai to help him so much and then just leave without saying anything.

Naruto started to gingerly walk around the apartment and found Mai's ID. Looking at it, he read what he saw out loud, "Mai Sakurajima, huh."

Knowing he would need a photo of her, he started to look around. About 10 minutes later he found a headshot of Mai in her room. Looking outside, it wasn't raining so he could start asking around for her.

As he was leaving the apartment, he realized that he couldn't exit the apartment without locking himself out. Shrugging his shoulders, he stepped out and closed the door, automatically locking it. Looking around, Naruto realized Mai lived in an apartment complex. Making his way to some stairs, he went to the first floor and exited the building.

Photo in hand and a simple name, Naruto started to ask around. After about 20 minutes of asking, his hopes were basically equal to zero. Not a single person had heard of her, that's when he remembered from earlier, Mai asked if he could see her. Why couldn't he see her anymore then, Naruto couldn't make any sense of it.

Clouds started to form overhead as Naruto slumped down on the side of a building, he needed a way to get everyone to see her. He was stumped though, he didn't want to be on the streets but he wouldn't break into her apartment. Sighing, he got back up and started back up.

Another 30 minutes passed and he still got the same responses. After talking to a particularly rude woman, that's when he felt it, a raindrop. Looking up, he saw it had begun to rain, cursing his luck Naruto put his hood up.

It had been hours and he was drenched, people had offered him their umbrella but he declined every time. Giving an excuse each time, he didn't want to take something from anyone else.

-Nighttime-

Naruto had run out of time and night had come. There was hardly anyone out on the street and Naruto was dead tired. At least for him, the rain had stopped, he had the chance to get some sleep. He was still on the same street as Mai's apartment, looking around he found a dark alleyway he could spend the night in. Going over to it, he walked in and sat down. Leaning his head against the wall, he passed out. He didn't-rather he couldn't see the tears that littered the ground right in front of him.
