Pain jolted Stephen awake as he felt it wrecked his body. He didn't know if it was because his current body or the aftereffects his transition.
It was not a great sensation if you're doing dimensional traveling. Stephen can attest to that. It felt like it doesn't matter if he was a soul or not as he felt like he was sucked and then thrown after he step through the door. Not only that, to him it seems like he was transported in a tunnel filled kaleidoscopic colors.
Fortunately, the transition seems to be fast as he only experienced the tunnel for seconds. He felt lucky that he was a soul because If he was inside a real body, he probably already vomiting along the way along with getting an epilepsy on top of it.
He didn't know which god he should praised for that to not happen.
After that distasteful experience, he felt like he was slammed into the ground before blacking out.
Currently, he was inspecting his body before finding out that he was transmigrated into a body of a kid. Possibly inhabiting a dead body, judging by bloody shirt he wears. He didn't know the approximate age but probably the kid's age was below ten, judging the size of his current limbs compared to everything in vicinity which was trees.
Stephen doesn't know how but it seems like the wounds that killed the kid was fixed into bloody patchwork and some looks like injury that almost healed. He is no doctor but if he was placed in this body without getting fixed then he will just keel over again.
The face, throat, chest, and especially his stomach looks like someone just played doctor psycho before patching him up.
The urge to get out of this forest was strong because whatever that did the kid, it probably is still close. Something he didn't want to meet right now and he is not suicidal enough to find the cause. He can brawl sure, but if it was a mob of people or god forbid a massive wild animal then he can consider his life forfeit.
Stephen checked his vicinity and he found himself a knife several meters away from him. Something he almost overlooked as the blade was stained with dirt and the handle was colored green. The knife looks like a standard issued combat knife you can found on weapon store. He grasped it tightly as his life probably depends on it.
Spending countless time fantasizing being isekai'ed does not mean he can immediately acclimate to his situation. Especially if the context was founding himself in the middle of forest inhabiting a dead kid's body and only equipped with a knife.
He felt like a chew toy just waiting to be used.
Fantastic. He thought sarcastically before finally decided to explore his surrounding cautiously.
Since the sun is almost right above his head, he decided that finding civilization is top priority since he has less than six hours to navigate in the forest before dark.
'Now which way will lead me toward civilization?'
He is no exploration experts as pretty much his option is every direction. As he was contemplating on choosing the way, he heard a rustling and growls from behind. Slowly without wanting to agitate whatever animal behind him, he turned his head a bit.
Stephen promptly felt that his balls leaped to his throat.
'What the fuck?!'
Standing few meters behind me is slouching big ass black werewolf like creature that stand with its hind legs, but still reaching the size of average adult.
But unlike werewolf, it's head has a bone-like hollow reject mask with red markings. In it's body can be found a bone-like spikes protruding from their arms, back, and knees. Furthermore combined with it's long and sharp white claws, it made a great combo of being a killing machine.
Stephen sure that this is a creature that God forgot to love. And the most important things is something he should get away from at all cost.
In an instant, adrenaline rush kicked in. Times seem to crawl for Stephen as he saw it bent its hind legs to lunge. His flee or fight instinct came and he chose to run.
'Nope! Fuckity nope!'
As Stephen took his first step to bolt away, he practically could felt it's claws tore through the air. His mind frantically tried to find a solution for his predicament while ignoring the pain he felt. He didn't realize that somehow he could outrun the thing behind him. Something that shouldn't be possible for his condition and his short legs.
His frantic mind could only came up with few options with only trees in sight and knife in hand. Each one of his options doesn't guarantee his chances.
But at least to him betting on one is better than helplessly getting mauled after he is tired running.
'Now let's hope I still have some luck left to spare.'
Suicidal as it is, Stephen slowed his pace just a little bit before taking a sharp turn and zig zagging into the tress in his left. Taking a little cover for what's he going to do next.
Stephen could barely see the thing turned to follow him due to the tree. Even then it was fast, he felt it was faster than normal wolf despite it's size.
When it was getting closer, time seems to slow even further as he keep an eye on it's movement. Especially it's claws. With it's running on four, at least when it swings it's claws he could guess which way he should dodge to. He hoped that with his currently short stature, he should be harder to hit.
Probably.
'I am so dead.' He thought sarcastically for the last time.
As the creature reach him within it's arm distance, it clawed at him with it's left. Unfortunately he moved a bit slow and it's claw grazed his head a bit. He ducked and move toward it's left while also throwing all his weight to stab it's left chest with knife using both hands. Gambling to fatally injures it even with the creature's size and muscle density.
In this instance, he managed to burrow the knife deep until the handle before quickly pulled it out and get away from the creature in fear of its retaliation. He could feel the sense of satisfaction from this, yet it quickly diminished. Its like it only aggravates the creature further as smoke spewed from it's wound.
"The fuck?!"
He jump to his right to dodge incoming claws it wildly swung with savagery that fit it looks. He successfully dodge the first retaliation and seeing a little chance for dealing another injury, he slashed at the creature's wrist. Enough to leave a cut on the creature that spewed a black smoke like the one it's left chest.
'Did this thing doesn't have any blood?!'
He keep dodging left and right as the creature's tried creatures maul his sorry ass. Sometimes he even ducked and rolled. Even then he couldn't escaped the full length of the claws as it grazed him here and there. Injury piled on body. Yet with every injury the creature inflict to him, he also inflict some light cuts to it's arms and if he is lucky, the body.
As they tried to killed each other, Stephen felt that something clicked inside him. It happens in an instant, but he couldn't dwell on it.
"Argh!"
The creature's right claws dig deep into the left side of his stomach. As Stephen movement almost halted, the left hand grab his left shoulder and push him into the ground hard. Then to capitulate Stephen incapacitated form, the creature's move in to bite into him.
He narrowly avoided from becoming a chew toy by forcefully leaning his head to the left. Unfortunately, it's not enough as it still bit him in left cheek. It then proceed to tore his cheek. Stephen's eyes widened as pain wrecked his face as he felt a chunk of it and probably the corner of his lips left his face. Black and red started to fill his sight but it didn't blind him from seeing a chance to injure the creatures.
The throat was left open for him to stab, and he seized it. He started to stab his knife into the left side of it's neck as his life depends on it.
At first stab, the creature gag a bit before turning it masked maw to bite him again. But before it did that, Stephen turned the knife to widen the wound in it's neck before pulling it out. Then with rage and adrenaline that still coursing in his body, he kept jamming it to the neck of the creature repeatedly. In vain hope that he can kill it as faster than it killed him.
With each stab, the creature whimpered while tightening it's grip on his shoulder and stomach. Making the wound deeper and signifying his chance of dying even if he killed the abomination.
"Go to hell fucker!" Stephen spit out the blood that already gathered in his mouth with a cry
With his waning strength, he prepared for the last stab when he briefly felt something inside him was tugged and pulled out. It flow through his arm and into the knife. His last stab turned into devastating wound for the creature as it left the throat gaping open. Like something with the size of Stephen's current arm punched through it.
Whatever it is that Stephen did, not only it blew a hole on the creature's throat it somehow also seems to killed it instantly. With the creature's death, the limbs that it used to kept holds on him weakened. Unfortunately, it also means that it body fell on him. Pressing him with it's weight.
It's a wonder what pressing heavy thing could do to someone with injury allover their body. Stephen can felt it hasten the pumping of his blood to leave his system. With the blood leaving him, so is his strength and body heat. As the battle end, the adrenaline stopped it glorious work and all injury can be felt by him without being muted by it.
The only thing that kept him away from getting knocked out is the excruciating pain. Painful enough to wake him up, but not enough to knock him. At least not yet.
With half lidded eyes, Stephen saw that most of the creature's body evaporating into black smoke. And with it, he could felt the carcass that squished against him kept getting lighter.
'Come to think of it.. why the hell is this creature is so damn familiar?'
Before he could think further, felt the exhaustion catch up to him as his eyes almost closed against his will. Before he was completely out, he heard voices shouting over at him but couldn't clearly heard what they're saying. The weight pressing on him then got removed.
At the last moment he succumbed to unconsciousness, he felt like he was being free of shackle and finally experiencing freedom.
Maroon didn't know what was happening anymore. He just wanted to brought back a big game to win a yearly contest that his settlement held to keep up morale and attract tourist.
He didn't plan to partner up with another contestant because they stumbled upon an aggravated pack of beowolves. He didn't plan to switched to his game into hunting beowolves because he thought they were attracted to the settlement.
But sure as hell he planned to hunt any aggravated grimm in the direction of his village. He is an experienced hunter yes, but he is no Huntsman that could just waltzed and killed grimms left and right.
Just as he thought he just finished killing the last beowolf he found a track of another beowolf that didn't stay with a pack. He could just ignored it, but he didn't. He decided that if the track was really made by a single grimm then at least he could kill it.
"Oi Fletcher, I'm gonna checked this one. You wanna come?" Maroon nudged his head toward the direction the track lead to.
"Sure, why not? Hunting grimm is more fun than hunting a deer. And for fuck sake for the last time my name isn't Fletcher!"
"Eh who cares. Let just follow the trail and be done with it," Maroon then proceed to follow the track without waiting for his temporary partner. The said partner looked at Maroon back in dead pan. "I fucking care dickwad."
They followed the trail for minutes before they heard a children's cry and a beowolf's growl. Something that prompted them to charge ahead without any second thought. They then stumbled upon scene they won't forget the rest of their lives.
A dead beowolf with gaping neck and heavily injured kid pressed by it's carcass. They didn't know how the kid managed to did it but it didn't made them pause for even a bit. After reaching the fallen kid, both moved the carcass away from him and were horrified by the extends of his injury. Mangled face, gored torso, and messy patchwork of healed cut on his throat.
Both of them saw that kid was barely conscious with half-lidded eyes staring the sky.
"Oh shit, oh shit. Hold on kid, hold on! Don't fall asleep yet!"
Fletcher yelled at the boy in panic. He know that panicking in the wild is bad but this horrific scene prevents him from being calm. Fortunately, Maroon was able to calm him down by slapping Fletcher at the back of his head.
"Chill damn it, we don't want grimms to flock this place!" Fletcher just looked at Maroon dumbly before he shouts back in anger. "Look at him! How can I be calm?! We don't have a med kit for this kind of injury and I sure don't have a semblance for- oh.. right."
Maroon ignored Fletcher's mumbling and kneel beside the boy, his hands hovering above the gored wound. With a flashing light, the wound knitted itself together. His semblance can works on people but only if their aura did not rejected it. Something that can be bypassed if they're unconscious or their aura is working on healing an injury.
"I need you to jumpstart his aura, I can't heal all of his wound."
Fletcher just mutely followed his command and crouched beside him to awaken the aura. He places his hand on the kid's chest, pouring his aura in to find a spark of life inside before he found it and tugged it.
"By the dawn you shall be the swift, uplifting rush of quiet birds in circled flight. By your soul you shall be the soft stars that shine at night, unfettered by the dark."
Grey colored aura seeped from the kid's and Fletcher almost fell forward. The aura was massive as exhaustion filled him as large amount of his aura was used up. It didn't felt like what he did in the settlement years ago.
Fletcher was about to change his position to give Maroon a space so he can concentrate after he was done before he found the boy's aura was strangely unique. Tiny golden dots can be seen in almost every part he saw. Fletcher didn't checked it further about the strange aura as Maroon shoved him away to take care of the wound in the boy face.
The process took a lot time and fortunately no grimms approached them despite the panic and outburst at first. God knows how lucky they are since aura is pretty much a bacon for grimm. And with the boy's life is saved for now, they could finally get out of the wood and head towards the settlement so they could have someone to properly took care of him.
They cut some wood to make a stretcher before placing the boy in it before they travelled to the settlement in hurried pace while being wary of their surrounding. Fortunately there is no mishap in the way as they finally reached the settlement.
Two militias stationed for watch duty saw them before one of them decided to lent their hands while one of them to report it to their medic.
They decided to lay the boy on the nearest table before taking a rest and wait for the medic to arrive and have a look on the boy. Both are agitated for medic arrival, especially Maroon. The boy injury was extensive and he is lucky that he could somehow fixed most of it. Too lucky in fact.
The only thing he couldn't fix is the scar tissues it left. Especially the boy disfigured face, he could only do so much as his semblance and aura has it limits. With the boy's injury, fixing those before it killed him was a miracle enough. He can only hope that the boy will come in term with it as it took a great will and acceptance for it.
His rest was cut short as he saw the medic rushed over to the boy. Prompted him to over too to explain the degree of injury and what he did to fixed him.
'Hopefully, the boy made it through..'
Hopefully.

AN: What's up folks! I hope you leave some reviews as English is not my first language so you can absolutely found a grammatical errors, wrong choice of words, bad punctuation, and many kind of problems I didn't realize or I don't even know and I will be grateful if you could pointed it out to me.
And also maybe at the end you're wondering if I made a mistake in adding aura awakening by Fletcher if my OC already have it unlocked when he killed a beowolf then no, I didn't. He didn't use aura. He use different power system from a manga I read that could works just like aura in RWBY but more powerful, be it in usage and the drawback from using it. Of course I add my own twist in it so it can fit in the fic. And honestly I really wanted to give some spoilers about what did he use to bait in some reviewers and readers though, lol. But if you don't want to then in summary, aura in RWBY is just one of the prerequisite to use it. If you can use the main power system then you can use aura from RWBY and also another power system from another work. So the next paragraph will explains what it is and what is the other power. But please be baited lol.
I'm making his power into something from Yin Yang theory. No, it will not become cultivation bullshit. Just taking the theory and principles from it.
Some of you may think that it is Nen or aura from HxH but it's also just one of the prerequisite. But aura from RWBY is the Yin as the lore said that it came from the soul. A power from spiritual body that can affect the material one. The Yang will be Nen from HxH as it was basically life energy produces by our body (correct me if I'm wrong.), the power of material body that can affect Spiritual body (Kite's hatsu). So here came the main power system. One that is pretty bullshit in potential if it was combine with aura from RWBY and Nen. The power system is Tao from Jigokuraku. As for how it works later with my twist? Well grab a seat as this story unfold, will ya?
