Chapter Three: Revelations (Part One)
"You're… What?" Veronica asked, astonished.
"I'm your Uncle Aaron." The str-Aaron, said calmly.
Veronica loosened her grip on him. She started laughing, thinking that this was all one cruel, sick joke.
"You're my uncle?!" Veronica said in between laughs. "Nice try pal, but I know all of my uncles, and you ain't one of them. I hope you got your money's worth." She said walking away from him.
"Actually, I'm not an actor and you only know your adoptive uncles." Somehow, that line made it clear that Aaron wasn't playing a game. It sent shockwaves down Veronica's spine. No, no. This can't be happening! Wake me up!
"No, no, this can't be real!"
"Veronica, I-" Aaron said with a hint of sympathy in his eyes, reaching for Veronica's hand before she jerked back.
"Get away from me, you sick pervert!"
"Ok," Aaron said calmly after a few seconds of silence. He reached into his pocket and put a piece of paper into Veronica's hand.
"Just call me whenever you're ready to talk," He said before walking away.
Veronica looked at Aaron as he walked into the opposite direction of the alley. She looked down at the piece of paper in her hands. It was his phone number.
Veronica had too many thoughts racing into her mind at once. Who the-? Why the-? Is he reall-? How is he conn-? I need to talk to Mom and Dad.
And with that, she was off to her house.
The Sawyer's front door slammed as Veronica entered the house. This was unusual for the them, so Valerie and Vance went to see what the commotion was all about.
"Veronica?" Valerie asked, seeing her daughter's distressed.
"Is it true?!" Veronica yelled, staring daggers into her parents' eyes.
"Is what true?" Vance asked.
"That I have an uncle named Aaron?!"
Her parents looked at each other, with a bit of shock and confusion, before breaking out into laughter.
"You really got us there, Ronnie," Vance said while laughing.
"You know you don't have an Uncle Aaron," Valerie added.
Veronica was genuinely offended and her rage level was even higher. "No, I'm serious!"
Her parents went from laughing to stone-cold serious within a heartbeat.
"Aaron said that I only knew my adoptive uncles. But that isn't true, right?!" Veronica asked, desperately seeking reassurance.
Vance and Valerie shared a knowing look with each other.
"Mom? Dad?"
"Honey, we need to talk."
The Sawyers all sat down in the living room for a "family meeting" as Valerie liked to call it.
"Veronica, let me just start off by saying that your father and I love you very much, and nothing will ever change that," Valerie said.
"Thanks," Veronica said meekly, confused as to what was going on.
Valerie looked to Vance to see if he wanted to get things going, but his face implied that he wanted his wife to do it instead. Valerie turned to Veronica, "You know how we always called you our miracle baby?"
"Yeah," Veronica said, already fearing the worst. For as long as she can remember, her parents have told her about how she was their miracle baby after years of infertility.
"Well, we didn't get you by ourselves. There were others who helped out."
"Yeah, the doctors helped you out."
Valerie looked at Vance again. This time, he decided to jump in.
"They weren't doctors," Vance said.
At that moment, a million thoughts went through Veronica's head, but she couldn't grasp onto a single one. "What?"
"You see, after years of trying to conceive, your father and I… looked into other options."
"After a few months of waiting, an important friend of ours told us that a baby girl was found on Belmont Avenue," Vance added, deciding to just rip the band aid off.
Belmont Avenue? There were a couple of places there. The restaurants, casinos, the orp-
Wait.
"A-Are you guys saying what I think you're saying?" Veronica asked shakingly.
Her parents looked down to the ground with pained expressions.
"Yes," Vance said quietly.
Veronica never walked out of that house so quickly in her life.
Veronica crawled through the bedroom window of the only person that she wanted to see. She kicked him awake.
"Veronica, what are you doing in my room?" JD asked, startled to see his girlfriend.
"Sorry, but I just- my parents- Aaron- adopted," Veronica said in between breaths while crying.
"Whoa, Veronica, calm down. You're soaking wet," JD said while hugging her.
Veronica took several deep breaths while JD whispered sweet nothings into her ear and giving her several pecks of kisses around her face.
Over the next few minutes, Veronica calmed down enough to tell JD the whole story. She told him about Aaron and the adoption bombshell from her parents, all while he held her and listened to her every word.
"What are you going to do now?" JD asked tenderly.
"I don't know," Veronica answered.
They spent the next couple of hours watching TV, eating, and doing other romantic, yet relaxing, activities, all to take their minds off of Veronica's unique situation.
While it did help to some degree, Veronica was never able to completely get her mind away from Aaron and her parents. There were just too many puzzle pieces to find.
That night, as Veronica left JD's house, she made a decision that would forever change her life as she pulled out her phone.
"Hey, I just want to talk."
A/N: Who is Veronica talking to? (It's pretty obvious, lol).
Anyway, as you have probably noticed by now, there is a Part Two coming, and there might be some bombshells there too :).
Get prepared, we might have some BIG FUN next chapter ;).
