Chapter 2
Toshi and Hiro woke up earlier than usual due to the loud 'kya's outside the Moon Dorm. This meant that they were even more grumpy and cuddly (only to certain people) than usual. Right at the moment, they were laying their heads on Shiki's lap, who sat in the centre of the sofa while the twins laid on either side of him. He didn't mind them since they were quiet and still, almost sleeping.
"Everyone seems to be excited today, huh?" asked Takuma without expecting an answer but he got more than he though he would.
The twins from Shiki's lap grunted and snuggled into the redhead's thighs a bit more. They were usually quiet and peaceful in the mornings, but the ruckus outside made them grumpy. The Night Class wasn't used to the inume siblings' vocal show of emotions even if it did happen sometimes.
"I just wish they weren't that excited."(Toshi) "Why are they so noisy? We wanted to sleep more!"(Hiro) "And why is this even an event? They always give me chocolate too. I don't even like sweets."(Toshi) "The chocolate is not even worth the lost time we could've spent with sleeping."(Hiro) the Inume twins pouted and whined. Nobody in the hall would admit it, but they found it adorable when they acted younger than their age. They were the type of people who weren't irritating when they were whining, but little puppies they wanted to hug and pet to cheer them up. They just found these outbursts endearing from the two boys. Not even the blonde noble was safe from their charm. Shiki was the only one who openly showed his affection by actually petting the boys' hair softly. He liked their soft hair a lot.
"Tomorrow is St. Xocolatl's Day, after all." concluded Kain lazily as ever.
"I wonder how many I will get this year. Hey Kain, wanna bet who gets more chocolate?" asked Kain's (irritating) cousin smugly, as if he was sure of his victory. The twins covered their ears since they found Aido extra irritating today, which didn't go unnoticed by Kain and it made him snicker.
"What a pain." complained Shiki as he stopped petting the siblings, so the boys had a displeased frown on their faces. They liked Shiki's petting. He was always gentle and caring when he did that. It also lulled them back to sleep so they almost whined at the lost physical contact.
"You will get a lot of chocolate, Shiki." Tried to reason the mother hen of the Night Class (read: Takuma).
"Kaname-sama!" came the happy voice of Ruka suddenly. This made the frown on Toshi's and Hiro's faces deepen. The pureblood walked down the stairs and he asked the vampires if they were ready to go. And thus, the twins were forced to go with them too.
-Time skip: gates opened-
The two boys caught Zero's threat (of canceling the event altogether) and wished it could happen. They didn't want this event to happen. At all. So, when they opened the gate the girls crowded them like always. The twins separated from the group and went straight to their friend. The females gave them way and when they got to the silver haired prefect they hugged him tightly and snuggled into his torso.
"Good morning, Zero! Thank you for your hard work!" thanked the twins and the girls melted again. They all had fantasies of the three males since they started to hug the taller boy in Class changes. Some had pure, and some had not so pure fantasies. Zero softened yet again and petted them.
"'Morning, you two! No problem at all!" replied the hunter. He sighed outward but he calmed down immediately when they hugged him. He missed Ichiru. Suddenly the other Night Class students stopped too and Kaname gave his books to Seiren. He turned around and stepped up to the cuddling trio. He smiled at the central member.
"How are you Kiryuu-kun? Take care!" he teased and Zero was irked. He then looked down and held out his hands. "Come on, you two! We can't be late." he said and low-key commanded the siblings to take his hands. The two boys stayed there for a few seconds, but took them all the same. They looked at the male prefect and waved at him.
"Want to test me, Kuran- senpai? I am ready anytime…" retorted Zero with a challenging voice. With a few complaints about the hunter's disrespect for Kaname, the Night Class took off to their classes, the two identical boys hugging the pureblood's arms. They found them good pillows.
-Time skip: after classes-
The Inume boys were in their room and they were laying on their bed, thinking about their friend. They say that he wasn't okay and that their blood was needed more and more frequently.
"Hey, Toshi! Do you think Zero will be ok?" asked the younger boy.
"I don't know, Hiro! I hope so." Answered the other boy.
Their conversation was interrupted by a knock on their door.
"Toshi, Hiro, Kaname-sama asked for you go to his study!" said Takuma from the other side. The laying twins sighed and got up. They opened the door and nodded in understanding. Takuma smiled at them and fixed their hair a bit. He patted their shoulders and sent them on their ways. They got to the study and knocked on the door. They were let in and Kaname was waiting for them, reading a book.
"Kuran-sama, you asked for us." said Toshi to cut the chase. Kaname closed the book and looked at them.
"Yes, I did. I wanted to talk to you about something important." he said and waited for a few seconds. "This matter concerns Kiryuu-kun. I know that you both give him blood to slow down the… degradation, but you have to accept that it is inevitable." he finished.
"We are aware of that, Kuran-sama. We just want to help a friend and give him a little more time to be sane." answered the younger twin. Kaname nodded and opened the book again.
"Good, as long as you keep that in mind. You can go now. Sleep, I imagine tomorrow will be an early day." said the oldest in the room.
"You should too, senpai. You look stressed, Kuran-sama! I think the others will worry about you if you keep this up." Said Toshi with pure concern in his voice. Kaname couldn't find a single ounce of bad intention in the warning.
"Thank you for the concern, Toshihiro! I'll keep that in mind. Good night! The sun is about to rise." he finished with one of his rare smiles. The boys bowed and left, leaving Kaname alone with his thoughts.
-Next day: gate opening-
The twins were made to walk in front of the group for once and saw that the horde didn't attack because of the barricade. They sighed in relief and commented it so quietly that only vampires heard it.
"I take back what I said yesterday. There should be more events like this." they said and the Night Class along with Zero held in a chuckle. They knew how against they were to the idea of St. Xocolatl's Day and the simple fact that the ordered line made them have a change of heart was hilarious for them. The girls were a bit confused but let it go. The siblings went to their line and noticed the lack of girls compared to the other lines. Although it had more boys than any other lines that were formed for male vampires. They took as much chocolate as they could carry and waited for the others to finish as well. After some drama with the KanameYuukixZero love triangle, they were all ready to go and went to their classes.
-Time skip: around midnight-
The twins caught a conversation about Zero during free period and saw a Kain, Aid, Ruka, Shiki and Rima leave the school building. They went after them to check that they didn't do something stupid. Just like they suspected, their target was Zero, who looked like he had a headache. They all said their own comments but Ruka and Aido pissed the twins off with their unreasonable respect for Kaname. They saw Kain thrown to the ground by Zero and decided to step in before things got too serious.
"You know, it's really unfair for Zero to fight against several B Class vampires in the same time. And as you said Takuma and Kuran-sama wouldn't be too happy about this fight." tried to reason the older twin.
"You should be quiet, D Class. Just because you are too friendly with him you shouldn't interfere with higher classes' problems." said Aido arrogantly. They were about to fight, but the female prefect arrived too. She asked some pointless questions and the vampires knew that Yuuki was ABSOLUTELY off-limits so they left. Yuuki scolded Zero, but he just left and when Yuuki wanted to follow, the twins grabbed her shoulders and stopped her.
"Don't worry, Cross-san. We will help him with his problem. Just know that you will never understand him completely. Goodbye, Cross-san!" said Hiro and went after the silver haired hunter as his brother did. The girl protested and said that she would understand Zero but the boys left already. They found Zero and after some coaxing, they made Zero drink some of their blood. They told him he is slipping and that he doesn't have long until he loses his sanity, if he doesn't drink his sire's blood soon. They also voiced their worries about him and comforted him when he hugged them in a vulnerable moment.
He let go of them and got up, continuing his patrol. They went back to the classroom and noticed Kaname waiting in front of the teacher's desk. He looked at them and asked them where they were.
"We went after Zero after some of your inner circle was about to fight him. We saw that he wasn't well and wanted to ask him if we can help. It turned out that our presence had a good effect on him and we went on our separate ways after a little cuddling, Kuran-sama." answered Hiro. He didn't lie but he didn't tell the whole truth. He also wanted to see how Kaname reacted to the inner circle's stupid idea. As he expected, his reaction wasn't the best. He made the five idiots stand in two rows and scolded them. Takuma, the faithful peacemaker tried to calm the situation.
"Well, everyone is repentant, but Kiryuu-kun is pretty gutsy to take on Aido's challenge. Something must really be bothering him." he said in a wondering tone. Kaname agreed and explained the situation a bit.
"He can't help it… now. That accident four years ago changed his life completely. And permanently." he said, addressing the last bit at the twins. The five nobles noticed the look and saw the boys frown. They wondered what those two knew that they didn't. The incident went without punishment and they returned to the Moon Dorm not long after the scolding.
-At the dorm-
The twins were about to sleep when they heard a knock on their door. To their surprise it was Kain. They let him in and waited for him to start the conversation.
"So, do you two know what happened to Kiryuu, that we don't know about? You two are pretty close to him, after all." he asked them and watched their reactions carefully. They were surprised by his question but after a shared look they looked back at him and answered in an apological tone.
"Sorry, Kain-san. It's not our secret to tell. Ask Zero if you want to know, but we doubt he would answer." They said in perfect synch. They liked him but they still hid the information, so Kain knew it was a big thing. Zero became an even bigger mystery to him. He said goodbye and let the twins sleep. He passed Aido when he asked him what he got out of the two boys without answering. He went to sleep as well.
