I raced into the hospital with Yuri in her carrier, dodging people that were in my way as I made my way up to the front office.
"I'm here to see my wife Haruhi Hitachiin." I rushed out in a single breath. "I got a call saying she was in an accident."
The nurse typed on her computer for a few moments to look up Haruhi's name before nodding.
"Yes, come with me."
She led me down the hall so slllllooooowwwwlllllyyyyy. We were walking at normal speed, but I really wanted to ask for the room number so I could just run over, but by how crowded the hall was it would probably be best not to get myself, or worse Yuri injured trying to reach Haruhi faster.
Finally, after what felt like a mile hike, we finally made it to Haruhi's hospital room, and seeing her in the condition that she was in broke my heart to the point tears welled up in my eyes.
"Oh, honey…"
I knelt beside her bedside and took a hold of her limp hand. Her beautiful body was covered in red cuts and black and blue bruises from the accident and her neck was in a neck brace. The nurse told me that thankfully she didn't break her neck in the accident, especially from how hard the impact was. She was in a medically induced coma until the swelling in her brain went down.
"Do you know what happened?" I asked the nurse in a brittle voice, not taking my eyes off my wife.
"From what I know, the driver of the other vehicle fell asleep behind the wheel and swerved into opposing traffic, and hit her head-on. Luckily, her car absorbed most of the impact of a car going 75 miles per hour. If it didn't she would've most likely died."
Hearing that she almost died made my stomach drop. I felt like I was going to be sick at any moment, but I managed to hold it back. The nurse left us alone for a bit and I kept a hold of her hand, scared that if I let her go she'll vanish into thin air. But even though I didn't want to let her go, after an hour Yuri woke up and started crying so I had to tend to her. I fed and changed her, and tried to entertain her as best as I could because she would get fussy again if I put her back in the carrier. Even if she saw Haruhi she probably wouldn't be fazed since she was only four months old, but I didn't want to risk traumatizing our daughter by seeing her mother in such bad, I just stayed in the waiting room with her until Kaoru came to pick her up. Luckily, since it was so late at night, Yuri was too tired to stay awake for too long so I was able to stick her back in her carrier not long after.
Kaoru kept me updated on his estimated time of arrival. Saying he was literally breaking every road law imaginable to get to the hospital as quick as possible, but I told him to not rush over because I didn't want to risk him being hospitalized either. I don't think I'd be able to handle that.
Maybe after another hour or so, I didn't really know, Kaoru finally came rushing in and ran over to me when he finally spotted me.
"How is she?" Were the first words to come out of his mouth when he reached me.
I didn't really know how to answer that honestly. She obviously wasn't fine, but thankfully she wasn't dead either. It makes my body shudder just thinking about how close to death she was still and it probably will for the rest of my life.
"Stable." I decided to answer with.
Kaoru could obviously hear the distraught in my voice and sat down next to me, wrapping an arm around my shoulders with a tight squeeze.
"Everything's going to be fine." He tried to make me feel better, even though he knew it was going to be futile. "Maiko and I will be here if you guys need anything. We literally dropped everything to be here."
"Maiko is here?"
As if on cue, Maiko walked through the hospital doors and headed in our direction. She was a tall, thin beautiful woman with silky shoulder-length blonde hair. Her hips swayed in her black cocktail dress and black designer heels as she walked up to us. She was a gorgeous woman, too bad her personality didn't match.
She was sweet to Kaoru most of the time, which I guess is the only reason why I put up with her and Kaoru being together. We met almost a year and a half ago at one of one fashion shoots and we all instantly became friends. Kaoru and her clicked so well that a few months later he took her out on a date. However, while at a dinner party mom threw, we began to see that her whole nice act was a facade. I introduced her to Haruhi and she seemed happy to finally meet my wife, but after an hour in, Haruhi approached me saying how rude Maiko has been not only to her but to other guests as well without or with little celebrity status. I was a bit puzzled at first because that didn't sound like the Maiko that I knew, but I knew my wife wouldn't lie to me about something like that so I told Kaoru about how inappropriate Maiko was being. Kaoru was surprised as well but as other guests came up to us and complained about her doing the same thing Kaoru had to talk to her.
Ever since then, I've gotten her bitchy side as well for "telling on her." She was only ever nice to me now if Kaoru was around.
Her icy blue eyes met my hazel ones and I could tell she was furious at me that she had to be here this late at night, and by how Kaoru and she were dressed formally they probably were either in the middle or just finishing up a date.
'Well I'm sorry my wife getting into an accident ruined your precious date.'
"Hello, Hikaru." She greeted me with a tight smile.
"Maiko."
Kaoru could sense the tension between us and grabbed my attention again before anything could escalate.
"So, you're planning on staying here for the night?"
"Maybe for the next few nights." I sighed out, ignoring Maiko's eye roll I saw out of the corner of my eye. "I want to be here when she wakes up."
"I get it." He gave my shoulder a comforting squeeze, "and don't worry about Yuri. We'll take care of her as long as you need."
At the sound of that, Maiko's eyes grew wide as she looked over at Kaoru. She probably wasn't planning on taking care of my daughter and thought I was keeping her at the hospital with me while waiting for Haruhi to wake up.
"Kaoru honey," Maiko said in a sweet voice as she grabbed his arm to get his attention. "We're supposed to leave for Paris tomorrow after your shoot, remember? We can't take a two-month-old with us."
"Four-month-old." I correct with a glare.
She just narrowed her eyes at me before looking back at Kaoru with a sweet, innocent facade, but Kaoru didn't seem to care as he took Yuri's carrier from me. "I guess we'll have to reschedule it."
Her smile fell for a few seconds before she put on another one, and tightened her grip around his arm. "Can't one of your guys' other friends look after her until we get back?"
With the stress of everything today and having to deal with Maiko's selfish needs, I was ready to snap. How could fucking Paris be more important than my wife and daughter?!
Before I could get a chance to lash out at her, Kaoru turned to her angrily, and by how her smile quickly fell, I could tell she wasn't expecting it.
"My sister-in-law is in the hospital after a major car crash and my twin brother is distraught because she almost died. We can handle looking after my niece for a few days. Paris isn't going anywhere."
Maiko pouted as if that was going to change anything. Then when Kaoru turned away from her she scowled right at me. I know I'm 28, but I really wanted to stick my tongue out at her for her not getting what she wanted, but I resisted the urge to do so.
"Call us if there are any updates," Kaoru said. "We'll be here for you."
"Thank you, Kaoru."
…
For the next few days, I barely left the hospital, I only ever left when I had to shower, change, or check up on Yuri at Kaoru's house. Kaoru canceled all his interviews and shoots for the upcoming few weeks to be here for Haruhi as well. We were able to get her a private room thankfully, mainly because of my family name and celebrity status. The doctors' said that Haruhi's recovery was going in the right direction thankfully. They just had to continue to monitor her until she finally woke up. Which could be in the next few days.
I slowly pried my eyes open and tiredly rubbed my face with a small yawn, glancing at the clock on the wall. 6 p.m. I must've fallen asleep while reading my book. I looked over at Haruhi, who was still comatose. Watching her chest rise and fall as if I was scared she would stop breathing, which I was.
She was surrounded by flowers and gifts from friends and family. Ranka must've also been here while I was asleep because he left her a batch of his famous cookies. When Haruhi moved out with me, Ranka took up baking with Misuzu to deal with the empty nest syndrome. He actually had a real talent in baking. In fact, he was so good that we had him and Misuzu bake the cake for my and Haruhi's wedding.
I might as well fetch something to eat. I haven't eaten since breakfast and I could already feel my stomach painfully grumble with hunger. I got up and stretched out the crick in my back before placing the book I was reading down in my chair. I walked up to Haruhi's bedside and softly grabbed her hand. Rubbing my thumb across her knuckles as I smiled down at her ruefully.
"I'm going to get something to eat love. I'll be right back."
I placed a kiss on her forehead, and as soon as my lips touched her skin I heard I quiet groan. I pulled back and my heart began loudly when I saw that she was stirring in her sleep. This has to be a sign she's waking up.
I launched myself to the red call button to alert the nurses and in a matter of moments, they came rushing in.
"I think she's finally waking up." I nearly shouted as soon as the nurses came in. As I said that, they quickly ran over to check up on her. Was it my kiss that woke her up? Was true love's kiss a fucking real thing? I know that I'm stretching things but this was still a weird coincidence. I called Kaoru who was already on his way with Yuri to meet up with me for dinner and told him the news when the nurses did indeed confirm she was starting to regain consciousness.
Finally, I'm going to be able to get my wife back.
Haruhi
"Don't crowd her." Haruhi heard a soothing voice as she slowly began waking up.
Once she became more aware of everything, the pain of her head finally hit her like a train. She let out a small groan as the sound of beeping beside her made her head hurt even worse. After a minute or so, she was finally able to pry her eyes open and was almost blinded by a bright light before being greeted by a smiling gorgeous man at the foot of her hospital bed...wait a hospital bed?
"Hey," the man said in a soft voice. "How are you feeling?"
"My head hurts." Haruhi almost whimpered and she scanned the hospital room she was in. "Why am I in the hospital?"
"You were in a car crash Haruhi and hit your head pretty badly." The nurse answered calmly.
"I'm so happy that you're ok. I don't know what I'd do if we lost you."
If Haruhi could narrow her eyes in confusion she would've, but her head hurt too much to do that.
"How bad was it doctor?"
The smile on the man's face quickly faded when he realized Haruhi was talking to him. He and the nurse looked at each other before he looked back at Haruhi. The looks on their faces were uneasy.
The man let out a small laugh that seemed nervous. "Haruhi you know me. It's Hikaru."
"Hikaru?" She questioned, looking him up and down a few times to try and believe it. "Hikaru Hitachiin?"
"Yeah, it's me." He smiled again.
Haruhi looked him over him again, almost in shock. He looked amazing. No, even better than amazing in his crisp navy blue button-up shirt that firmly fit his very toned, athletic body with dark pants. His wavy hair was styled in a messy way but it looked great. He has well-trimmed stubble on his beautiful jaw and cheeks. He looked like he just walked out of a magazine, and he also didn't look like the Hikaru Hitachiin she remembered.
"Wow," was all she managed to get out. "You look amazing." His smile seemed to grow at her compliment. "How did they get you to look ten years older."
"I was worried about you, but I don't think it made me age ten years." Hikaru chuckled as if she was joking.
"No, but really. How were they able to do that? You really look like an adult. Your voice is even deeper too. How is that even possible?"
Hikaru's smile slowly fell and he looked back over at the nurse confused. The nurse eyed her as if she was thinking about something concerning. "Haruhi, how old do you think you are?"
"Seventeen, why?"
Both the nurse and Hikaru were silent and she couldn't help but notice that it looked like Hikaru had just seen a ghost. He swallowed before taking a shaky breath.
"Haruhi, uh...you're not seventeen." His hazel eyes met hers seriously, an expression she rarely ever saw him with. "You're actually twenty-eight."
"Wh...What?" Her reply almost came out breathless. She then noticed the dark silver band on his left ring finger that grasped her left hand. Where she could just barely see a diamond poking out between his fingers. She looked back at Hikaru shocked and he seemed to notice what she was looking at.
"Are we…"
"Yes, Haruhi we're married. We've been married for five years."
