Chapter 3: An Agent's Intro To Remnant, Part I
AN: Sorry for the wait, guys! I've just been really busy with one of my other stories, a MHA x Mortal Kombat crossover! However, I'm taking a small break for a few days from that story to focus on this one. I hope you enjoy this chapter as much as I enjoy writing them!
Kali Belladonna sighed, her sadness refusing to leave her. Today marked the third year her baby girl had left their household to join Adam and Sienna's mad quest for faunus equality. Some days, Kali couldn't help but wonder if she'd been more attentive, if she'd stayed with the White Fang after it's radicalization, then would her baby girl have left? It was a hard question to answer.
As Kali walked the beaches of Menagerie, she spotted something on the beach.
What in the world?
Kali walked down, wondering what was going on. As she approached, she saw that the object in question was a blue skinned teenager in some kind of leather jacket. She ran towards the teenager lying facedown in the sand, and turned him around.
Kali picked him up, straining a little bit, before taking the teenager back to her house. She'd be damned if she didn't help someone in need of it.
A few hours later
Kali approached the room where she had put her mysterious blue guest. She and Ghira had argued a bit about bringing them to their house, but in the end, Ghira conceded, saying that he may as well have done the same if he was put in the same position. As she opened the door, she was greeted by the sight of irisless red eyes. Kali stopped, putting the tray of food down.
The teenager spoke softly in an unintelligible language.
"I'm sorry, but I can't understand you." Kali stated, wondering what language this mysterious teenager was speaking.
The teenager rubbed his eyes, visibly frustrated. He got up and moved towards the door, before Kali grabbed him and put him on the bed.
"Sorry, dear, but I'm afraid I can't let you leave on an empty stomach." Kali smiled, before handing over the tray of food to the child.
The boy's eyes widened, before muttering something in his language and taking the food. Kali sat on the edge of the bed, wondering how to deal with this boy.
Later that night
Kali could faintly hear something going on in their guest's room that night. Wondering if something was wrong, Kali headed to their guest room. The closer she came to her guest's room, the better she could hear the audible scratch of pen and paper. Opening the door, she was greeted with the sight of their guest furiously going through page after page of the dictionary Ghira had handed out to him, while simultaneously writing down everything he was learning onto a notebook. His speed was astonishing, going through a full two pages per second. His handwriting, while barely legible in the darkness of the night, was still readable.
Kali put her hands on her hips. "Excuse me?" The boy stopped, startled, before looking at Kali like a child who'd just gotten caught with their hands in the cookie jar. Kali pointed towards the clock across the room.
"Look at the time. It's late. I know you want to learn, but you need a proper night's sleep, or else you won't be able to learn anything."
The boy nodded, looking a bit guilty, before closing the notebook and placing his pen on the page where he'd stopped. Kali smiled. "Goodnight. Me and Ghira'll see you in the morning." She left the room, closing the door.
The Next Afternoon
Kali wondered how much progress their guest was making in terms of learning the language. Ghira had done his best, but there was only so much you could teach someone about an entirely new language. The best he'd been able to do was giving him a few of Blake's old books and teaching him the alphabet.
"Ghira! Breakfast's ready! Come on down, and bring our guest too!" she exclaimed.
"No need for that, Mrs. Belladonna." their guest stated nonchalantly, almost appearing out of thin air.
Kali screamed.
The teenager fell back too, startled. "My apologies. I did not mean to frighten you."
Kali took a few deep breaths. "It...it's fine. I'm just a little surprised, is all." she coughed, suddenly cracking a smile. "Wow. You picked up our language pretty fast! How'd you do it?" she asked. She'd seen some impressive feats before, but this one was taking the cake.
The teenager scratched his neck, almost embarrassed. "Learning tends to come to me rather quickly, Mrs. Belladonna." he replied back.
Kali nodded. She didn't believe it, but she wasn't going to pry too much. "Well, I can't keep calling you "guest" or "boy". What's your name?"
The teenager frowned. "Thrawn. Agetol Thrawn."
P.O.V Switch, a few minutes earlier
Agetol Thrawn splashed some water on his face, trying to gather his thoughts. No matter how many times he saw it, the visage of his 17 year old self wasn't something he would get used to anytime soon. The scar he'd gotten from that little knife fight with a xenophobic cadet in Dromund Kaas, something he'd carried great pride in, was gone, as was the regular wear and tear he had experienced while dealing with the Empire.
He sighed. He was stuck into this new world of Remnant, and for the first time in life, he had no plan, no goal. He was all on his lonesome, with nothing to worry about.
And yet, all he could focus on was finding his friends.
It wasn't much of a surprise to Agetol. Samael, Hadrian, Ike, they had all been there for Agetol when he was at his lowest, even though they themselves were rather busy with their own positions. Ike particularly helped him the most, as the bounty hunter had stopped taking any contracts while Agetol was mired deep in his depression after his pyrrhic victory against Darth Jadus. Agetol would do anything for his teammates in the Empire's Fury, even if it was to trudge across the hellscape that was apparently this planet to find them. Honestly, between the Grimm, the racism, and rising tensions across all of the Kingdoms on this planet, it was a miracle that there was anyone still alive in this system.
At least people like Kali Belladonna were still there in this world. She had no reason to trust him, to bring him to her house and care for him, or to try and teach him the language of Remnant. And yet, she did so anyway. Agetol owed her a great deal.
"Ghira! Breakfast's ready! Come on down, and bring our guest too!"
Agetol sighed. He'd come up with a plan later. For now, he would stay here and see how things would unfold. As he jumped downstairs, his footsteps as silent as a mouse, he decided to surprise Kali with his newfound experience in their language.
"No need for that, Mrs. Belladonna." he stated nonchalantly, coming right next to her.
Kali screamed.
Agetol fell back, startled.
Perhaps he should've taken the stairs.
"My apologies. I did not mean to frighten you."
Kali took a few deep breaths. "It...it's fine. I'm just a little surprised, is all." she coughed, suddenly cracking a smile. "Wow. You picked up our language pretty fast! How'd you do it?"
Well, he could hardly tell Kali that he was genetically engineered to be the perfect agent by the Chiss Secret Police, now, could he?
Agetol scratched his neck, almost embarrassed. "Learning tends to come to me rather quickly, Mrs. Belladonna." he replied. Let's hope she buys it.
Kali nodded. It was clear she didn't believe that, but it looks like she wasn't going to pry too much. "Well, I can't keep calling you "guest" or "boy". What's your name?"
"Thrawn. Agetol Thrawn."
Agetol noticed that there were a pile of plates next to the sink. "Allow me to help you set up the table, Mrs. Belladonna."
Kali crossed her arms, pouting. "Please, Agetol. Mrs. Belladonna makes me sound old. Call me Kali."
Agetol scratched his neck in embarrassment. "My apologies, M-er, Kali. I am just not used to being a guest."
"It's alright. Me and Ghira are a little out of practice too! It's been a long time since we've had a guest in our home!"
Agetol nodded. He looked around, before noticing a picture frame. The picture showed the sight of Kali and Ghira, along with a small girl that looked almost like a smaller version of Kali.
Who's that? Agetol wondered, before shaking his head. He was a guest, he had no right to pry into his host's lives, but he hoped they would open up with him more in the future.
AN: And that's the Agent's Intro to Remnant! I wanted to write more, but I started to realize I was dragging things along and I wanted to try and push out a few more chapters, so I'll split the Agent's Intro into a few more pieces. The next part will continue with the Belladonnas and will push Agetol Thrawn to Beacon.
