"Chris! Eloise!" Travis' voice erupted from the crowd some moments later.
"Christopher & Eloise Manawa!" Liza's voice joined.
"Mama…" Eloise yelled to her mother.
Travis and Liza caught up with their children, and Eloise swiftly pulled herself into her mother's arms.
"We have to go" Travis said to Chris.
"Dad, he was unarmed but they shot him. They shot him like a dozen times." Chris said.
"Tell us on the way." Travis responded, then took Eloise from Liza and began trying to lead them away, until Chris stopped him.
Liza moved forward in the crowd and bent down to inspect the scene, seeing a body lying on the floor, covered in tarp.
"No, I'm doing what you taught me, this is what you taught me, Dad. We stand up for people."
"I know, I know, but there's a time and a place." Travis responded.
"Right now. This is happening right now." Chris said.
"Please, daddy, I want to go." Eloise begged her father as sirens erupted from behind the metal barrier and men clad in yellow HAZMAT suits emerged from the ambulances.
"Liza!" Travis yelled, as Chris was still rambling, explaining why he felt the need to stay "Enough, we gotta go." Travis said.
"This is important" Chris repeated.
"Come on, man. You're important, okay?" Travis said.
"Christopher, listen to your father." Liza said as she began to walk away, lightly grabbing Elly's hand and pulling her daughter away from the scene. "Christopher, now!"
"What is wrong with you? What is wrong with you guys?" Christopher asked, shocked at the lack of empathy his parents were having.
Travis pulled Chris away from the scene, keeping close to Liza and Eloise.
"No, wait, wait, stop." Travis yelled, stopping his family in their tracks.
The family noticed armed swat heading their direction, "This way." Travis said, pulling the family in the opposite direction.
"Come on, come on" Liza joined.
"Where are we going?" Chris asked as his parents were pulling him away from the crowd.
"Stop! Right now!" A police officer yelled, as she pulled a gun on a woman who was walking toward her, the woman kept walking, and the police officer fired two shots as the woman was not following instructions.
The Manawa family began running, Eloise screamed and Travis picked her up and kept running with the family, they ran as fast as they could away from the screaming crowd, down the stairs, careful not to trip and down a side ally.
"Where are we going?" Christopher asked his father.
"This way." Travis pointed, still holding on to Eloise, who had tightly wrapped her arms around his neck.
The family came across some shops, pulling and knocking on each of the doors, trying to find a place to hide to keep them safe from the riot. Right across from them were some teens shaking cars and throwing bottles. Travis put Eloise on the floor into her mother's arms, and shielded the family from the chaos emerging. Travis looked to his right and saw a man pulling down security blinds.
"Excuse me, sir. Can we come in, please?" Travis begged, Liza following Travis, clutching her two children.
"We're closed." The man responded.
"Please, it's not safe out here, I mean, it's dangerous." Travis responded as some men came toward them, Chris pulling Eloise into his body to protect her.
"Go to the police." The man said, pointing them in the direction of the local police station.
"No, I think they're the danger. I mean they're not letting anyone leave. We just need somewhere to ride it out. Please, please." Travis begged.
"Daniel." A woman's voice called from inside, she then began speaking to the man in Spanish.
"Please!" Liza begged as screaming began, not too far from them.
The man nodded, "Okay, come in." he said as Liza pulled her children inside.
"Thank you, thank you." Travis said to the man as he followed his family inside.
