Hogan Darling
A short chapter where Hogan plans a liaison with a woman from his past
"Hogan, this is incredible. You really think that we can have a fully loaded C-47 or C-54 land at Tempelhof, have it unloaded, fueled, and ready for takeoff in less than 20 minutes?. And another one lands afterwards. 24 hours on the clock?"
"Why not sir? General Tunner thinks it's doable. The British are already supplying their garrison by air."
"How much can be flown in a 24 hour period?" General Clay was curious.
"300-400 tons sir. I know it's not enough, but if we can stockpile enough supplies, there will be enough of a reserve for us to maybe make it through the winter."
"All right Hogan, it's a start. Keep the plan in reserve, just in case. But I have a feeling that we need to implement as soon as possible."
Hogan replied...
"Thank you sir. And since I'm in Berlin, there is someone I need to pay a visit to so we can talk over old times."
"Colonel Howley, have you ever had dealings with Marya Makarova?"
"You mean the Belorussian woman who is something of a big shot and the, ahem friend of the Russian Commandant? Isn't she NKVD or something like that?"
"That and GRU as well as KGB, e-i-e-i-o...I had to deal with her too many times back in the day."
"Mon General, my Marya will never betray us. I will talk to her and she will be embracing me!"
"And she will be strangling you shortly afterwards. LeBeau, keep it in your pants for once, will you? This is no social call at all. I need to figure out what the Soviets are planning."
"Colonel Howley, can you arrange a meeting with your Russian counterpart and Miss Makarova?"
"I'll see what I can do, sir."
