Chapter 3:
Subaru was roaming around the capital with concern. His eyes were looking for something in the crowd, Subaru started to run towards someone with blonde hair.
"I finally found you" Subaru was breathing heavily.
The girl turned around and looked at Subaru with scared brown eyes. She screamed when she saw Subaru
"Hey, hey! I thought you were someone else please don't scream anymore" Subaru tried to calm her.
Before Subaru can finish the girl was already running. Subaru sighed in frustration.
"I left you alone for 10 minutes and you already in trouble Lord Subaru," a feminine voice talked.
Subaru turned around and saw the blonde-haired maid in front of him. She was looking at him with big green eyes and there was a silly smile on her face.
"What can I say, I'm quite a troublesome man." Subaru laughed.
"Thank you for being with me Eliza." Subaru turned around and stared at the crowd.
The young boy and the maid started to walk among the crowd. Eliza was holding groceries and other things for the mansion.
Subaru suddenly stopped at the sight he was seeing, he remembered the place and got closer. He was looking at the ground and because of that, his hair was covering his face.
"Hey you want appas?" a man talked behind the stand.
Subaru slowly looked at the man and smiled. The green-haired man looked at the boy, He didn't recognize anything from the boy at first. He was still staring at the boy but then he remembered the day he first met with him. He wondered what happened to this boy. He was looking nothing like the boy before, the merchant was feeling uneasy. Subaru also felt that while looking at the merchant.
"Hey, don't worry I'm just here for appas." Subaru talked then he continued. "I said I was going to buy some apps next time I see you, right?" Subaru asked with a smile.
"Uhh... Yes, I kinda remember something like that." The merchant lied.
"So give me 6 of them then" Subaru ordered.
Subaru turned his back and talked to the maid who was behind him. "I know it's lame to ask for money from a girl but you see, I'm broke beyond compare" this statement made the maid giggle a bit before she gave some coins to Subaru.
"That would be no problem, Lord Subaru"
The merchant heard this and thought to himself. "This boy is a Lord? A Lord of what?"
Subaru handed some coins to the merchant before taking the appas from him.
"Have a nice day" Subaru waved at the man while walking back into the crowd.
"Have a nice day too, you two." the merchant yelled from the back of the young boy and the blonde maid.
Subaru and Eliza were walking together for some time then Eliza started to hum a song quietly. Subaru listened to her with a smile before she stops and realizes what she was doing.
"I'm sorry, Lord Subaru." She tries to apologize but she gets cut out by Subaru
"Keep it going it was lovely," Subaru says.
Eliza was still looking at the ground while walking.
"Can you tell me what's that song for?" Subaru askes.
Eliza slowly looks up and sees Subaru smiling.
"It's a song that I used to sing to my younger sister." She explains.
"You have a younger sister? that's so cool." Eliza was still looking at him. "I would love to meet her, where is she?" Subaru asks.
"She's in my village with my family, I'm sending the money I get from the mansion to her." She gives a half-smile.
"Do you miss her?" Subaru asks.
"I do Lord Subaru." She says with a low voice.
"Then I promise that we will see her someday, together." Subaru gave a thumbs up and smiled at her.
"No, I can't ask you to do that for me, Lord Subaru." She tries to talk.
"I'm not doing this for only you, I'm also doing this for myself," Subaru tells her.
"Yourself?" Eliza askes with a confused tone.
"Yes, for myself, If I'm going to rule this land I also have to see people who are living in the villages, right?" Subaru looks at her.
Upon hearing this, the tears found their way up to her eyes, and Eliza looked up to Subaru with watery eyes.
"Thank you, Lord Subaru"
"Now, please continue to that song," Subaru tells her.
Eliza looks up to Subaru before she closes her eyes and starts humming again.
"There's one thing I'm searching for," she starts singing quietly only for Subaru to hear.
"The laughter of the stars..."
"Shining on the wind,"
"You can grab if you reach out your hand." Her eyes were still closed.
"If you close your eyes,"
"You'll surely find it"
"The light that guided you when you were lost."
"If you listen carefully"
"You'll surely hear it,"
"The gentle voice singing only for you..." She continues to just hum with her lips closed.
When she finally finishes her song, She opens her eyes to look around. She sees Subaru with a broken smile while tears falling only from his right eye. She looks at him with awe.
Every time she sees Subaru crying, She feels like he is always in great pain. Subaru's lips were trembling when he opened his mouth to speak.
"That was..." Subaru couldn't finish.
"I'm sorry, Eliza." He wiped his tears and turned his face to the maid.
"It felt like home," he said with a smile.
"I didn't mean to hurt you, Lord Subaru," She says but she only gets a smile from Subaru.
"..."
There was a moment of silence between them, just the noise coming from the crowd. Subaru broke the silence;
"Thank you, Eliza"
Eliza and Subaru were walking back to Astrea Estate but they had to pass the slums to get to the mansion. As they were walking they saw a crowd in front of them Subaru quickly runs towards them to see what was happening. Subaru saw a man and a girl on the ground.
The man was holding something in his hand, it looked something familiar. He was beating the girl with his empty hand. The girl was also looked familiar to Subaru, with her blonde hair and blood-red eyes.
Subaru quickly walked towards the man, Eliza also came from behind.
"What's happening here?" Subaru asked the man in yet authoritative voice.
The man looked at Subaru and didn't bother to answer him. Subaru's anger grew.
"I said WHAT'S HAPPENING HERE!" Subaru growled.
Everyone's attention turned to Subaru including the girl on the ground.
"Stay out of this kid" The man growled back.
"Kid? Who do you think you are, you insignificant worm!" Subaru got closer to the man.
"Just lay another finger on her and you shall meet my wrath," Subaru said.
The man laughed at him and kicked the girl in front of him.
"You insolent human!" Subaru got more closer to him. He felt his anger was taking over him for a moment but then something changed. He was calm, he felt the confidence taking over him, not the anger.
The man saw Subaru walking so he turned his attention towards Subaru leaving the girl on the ground.
"Don't interrupt me, little kid." He yelled.
"You are a quite sinful person am I right?" Subaru tilted his head.
"Judging by your colors, You are on this path for a long time"
"So I'll be your judge for today." Subaru gave a wicked smile to the man.
"Stay out of my business, this thing is between me and this kid. I'm gonna whore this little piece of shit to everyone" man was pointing his finger to Felt.
"To think you can talk to me this easily, you must have reached the limits of arrogance" Subaru talked slowly.
"You even thought you can hurt someone who is under my care and devotion." Felt was still laying on the ground.
"I wasted my precious time and effort to keep this girl alive and yet you are here, hurting her." Subaru was looking very frustrated, his face was looking at the man with disgust.
"What are you talking about you stupid kid." the man shouted while taking a swing at him.
Subaru had it enough, he dodged the man's attack and activated "Undefiable" and punched him in the chest as hard as he could. the man flew around the street and stopped at the feet of other people who were watching the event. They looked down at the man and saw what was left of him, there was a hole in his chest and his eyes were popped out of his eye sockets because of the pressure of the punch. Everyone started to scream and ran away from the scene. Subaru closed "Undefiable" before it starts to hurt him. He slowly got closer to the girl on the floor. Felt looked at him with big red eyes.
"I'm sorry," she said while gasping for air.
"Don't worry, everything is alright now," he said and he carried Felt into his arms.
Eliza was looking shocked to see Subaru's this side. It scared her but when she looked at him and the kid he was carrying. She knew he was the same person as her lord.
Subaru stopped and look down at the man's corpse, he gave a disgusting look to the man before he took something out of his grasp, it was his phone. he put it back in his pocket and walked back to the mansion.
When they arrived at the mansion, Subaru requested a healer to look after Felt. Eliza took the groceries and the other things to the kitchen. Subaru got to his room while carrying Felt, He put her on his bed and waited for the healer to come. The healer was a young man and he assisted on the Felt's condition. He assured Subaru that there was nothing lethal and she only needs to rest.
Subaru was walking around the mansion. He thought about what happened today how he did kill someone with no remorse in the slums. He didn't even feel bad about it and even worse he was happy for him. He had been judged by him and only him.
"He surely saw what was coming for him," he assured himself.
Felt waked up to see Subaru sleeping at the chair beside her. Her eyes begun to fill with tears but she got off quickly. In seconds Felt hugged Subaru put her face against his chest and started to cry.
"I'm sorry Big bro, Thanks for saving me again." She was crying while hugging Subaru. She felt like if she loosens her grip on Subaru she might lose him forever. Subaru was the first one who cared about her other than Old Man Rom.
"It's okay Felt, It's good to see you more energetic like that." Subaru smiled at her.
Felt looked at him but it only made her cry harder. Subaru tried to figure out what he did wrong.
The crying session took about 15 minutes, but Felt fell asleep while in Subaru's bed at the end of it. Subaru walked towards the window. It was night and He hasn't seen Reinhard coming back from his mission with Royal Knights. Subaru looked at the sky to see the stars.
"I want to see Emilia," he thought to himself.
"Tomorrow I'll talk it with Reinhard, I know we are rivals for the throne but I bet we can find something maybe like an alliance." He was talking to himself.
"If this is what you wish for my Lord, I would gladly help you as a knight." Reinhard talked from Subaru's behind.
Subaru recoiled in fear but quickly realized it was Reinhard so he laughed it off.
Their eyes met and they looked to each other in the eye for a minute and then,
"I shall tell Eliza to prepare the carriage for tomorrow," Reinhard said with a smile.
"God I LOVE YOU, Rein." Subaru was about the yell but he remembered the girl in his bed.
"You are the best!" Subaru smiled back.
"Rein?" he asked in confusion.
"Yeah, Rein is your new nickname, since you are my friend I want to call you this way from now on, didn't you like it, I mean if you didn't I can stop saying it," Subaru explained.
"No!" Reinhard gasped
"It seems friendly I would love to be called like that." Reinhard smiled.
"Okay then, have a good night, Rein." Subaru waved at him.
"Have a good night to Lord Subaru." Reinhard waved back.
Subaru looked back from the window, stared at the sky, and waited for the darkness to take him.
