Gray Fullbuster from Magnolia, and Juvia Lockser from Oak Town were meandering together through the dense jungle trails of Tenrou Island. Juvia was humming merrily and watching her Vaporeon frolic in the grass. Gray was watching Juvia, a seldom seen smile on his face. He thought she was so cute when she hums while they explore. His Alolan Vulpix was trying to get Vaporeon to play, but she didn't want to. He thought their two Pokemon were the opposites of themselves, with Vulpix having more of Juvia's affection and playfulness and Vaporeon having more of his own quiet reservedness. The two trainers made a very good team, and often traveled together through new regions to discover what they had to offer.
Juvia grabbed Gray's arm and squealed quietly. "Gray-sama! Look!" She pointed off to their right.
Gray followed Juvia's arm to where she was gesturing. A tiny, rodent-cat-like creature was nestled in the grass, watching them with it's bright black eyes. It had big dark brown ears and a long tail that twined behind it curiously. There were dark brown spots all over it's brown back.
"Huh. That's actually really cute," he said. "Let's catch one!"
Gray called Alolan Vulpix over to him. "Vulpix!" he shouted. "Aurora Beam!"
Vulpix shot a beam of rainbow light toward the creature, hitting it squarely. Once the Pokemon was dazed, Gray threw a Pokeball at it. Once he caught it, he turned back to Juvia.
"Let's see what this little guy is," he said.
Juvia nodded and pulled out her Pokedex with a smile. She held it out to Gray who took it and scanned the Pokeball.
"Curily," the Pokedex said. "Rodent Pokemon. Normal Type. Usually seen in the northern habitats, during the winter season, these Pokemon migrate south."
"He's so cuuute," sighed Juvia, clasping her hands to her chest. "Gray-sama is the best at catching Pokemon."
Gray scowled, although secretly he loved her praise. "Quit it, Juvia," he said. "Let's keep going."
The two of them, in the company of Vaporeon and Vulpix, kept to the paths laid out, eventually coming to a small village. They decided to go rest and heal their Pokemon before traveling any farther. When they got to the Pokecenter, they ran into a couple friends.
"Juvia!"
"Lucy!"
Juvia ran to hug the blonde girl, and gave her Cosmog a pat on the head. The two girls hadn't seen each other in ages, since most of the time, when they see each other, so do…
"Natsu," Gray grumbled, face set in a scowl.
"Gray," the pink-haired Natsu grumbled right back.
"Natsu, be nice!" Lucy scolded, before giving Gray a hug. "Hey, Gray!"
Gray ruffled Lucy's hair. "What's up, Lucy?" he said.
Juvia eyed his hand on Lucy's golden hair, but said nothing, trying to be nice.
"We're here to catch all the new Pokemon!" Natsu burst into the group, trying to keep his Luce to himself, and accidentally shoving Juvia in the process of bringing Lucy closer to him.
"Oh yeah? Well I bet me and Juve will catch them all first!" Gray shouted, catching Juvia before she fell and pulling her to his chest. He hated it when she got hurt, and got a little territorial sometimes.
Juvia squeaked and gave Lucy, in a similar position, an apologetic smile. Lucy returned it with her own.
"Come on, Juvia. We have to beat that Fire Freak." Gray started pulling her along the path to the southern part of the island, but they still heard Natsu shout after them, "Yeah, well good luck with that one, Ice Princess! Come on Luce!"
Gray stopped short when he realized he was still holding Juvia's hand. He let go and put his hand to the back of his neck. "Uh, sorry, Juvia."
Juvia giggled. "It's okay, Gray-sama. Juvia knows how Gray-sama gets when he sees Natsu-san."
Gray frowned again. Just thinking about Natsu, his rival, set his teeth on edge. He also was not very happy that Natsu pushed Juvia, and almost made her fall. Juvia was his partner, and Natsu should not be touching her like that. He tried to smooth out his face and think about all the new Pokemon and plants around them, but he could tell from Juvia's anxious expression that it hadn't quite worked.
They continued meandering down the path, coming upon a waterfall with a large pool. Juvia gasped in surprise at the discovery. Even Gray's eyes lightened considerably and the two of them decided to go for a swim. Juvia excitedly pulled out a couple of her Pokeballs and let her Primarina and female Frillish swim with them. Gray delighted in the cold water, and Juvia swam like a fish all around the little pool. Water was her specialty, after all.
"This is amazing," she said with a smile.
"Yeah," Gray agreed.
All of the sudden, a flock of strange birds shaped like fish flew over them. Juvia's eyes lit up and she pointed at the birds before telling her Primarina to attack.
"Waterfall, Primarina!" she said loudly.
A huge burst of water rushed up from Primarina to one of the bird things. The water hit directly, and the bird fell to the pool. When they got a better look at it, it looked more like a fish with wings. Juvia tossed a Pokeball at it, and they waited until it caught the strange creature. When it did, Juvia pulled out her Pokedex.
"Wingfish," it said. "Peter Pan Pokemon. Water and Flying Type. Wingfish constantly say things like 'I can fly' or 'can you fly?' As such, they are known as the Peter Pan Pokemon. They are considered a delicacy by some."
"Huh," said Gray. "That's really neat."
Juvia agreed. "What does Gray-sama want to do now? Juvia is getting really hungry and tired."
"Let's go back to that village then and we can stay at the hotel," Gray said.
He and Juvia got out of the pool and started back the way they had come, remarking every so often on new things they saw around them. Both of them were happy with the day's discoveries, and couldn't wait to keep exploring the Tenrou Region.
