Hey, it's been a while since I've updated this story, but here's chapter 3 of Pokémon: Hoenn Roads.

"That was fun, wasn't it, Eevee?" Toby asked his starter.

"Eevee!" the shiny normal-type replied with glee. He then climbed onto his trainer, riding on his shoulder.

"Next stop: Petalburg City!" Toby declared.

Petalburg City…

After a brief hike through the forest, Toby had arrived at Petalburg City. As they were walking through the small town, Eevee noticed a large building with a stylized Pokeball symbol on the door above.

"Eevee!" He got his trainer's attention.

Toby took notice of the building the shiny pokemon saw. "The Petalburg Gym, one of 8 gyms in the Hoenn region." Toby said admiring the building.

"Ready to win our first gym badge?" Toby asked Eevee.

"Eevee!" The pokemon said.

"Unfortunately, Norman, the leader of this gym has a reputation of being a bit hard for rookies to handle, so it might be best to wait a bit." Toby said, much to Eevee's chagrin.

"Looks like we'll have to go to the next gym and try there" Toby said while rubbing Eevee's head.

"Fortunately, the nearest gym's in Rustboro, and it's not far from here. But the distance should be enough time for you and Poochyena to get some experience, and maybe even catch some new friends!" He said, holding up Poochyena's Pokeball.

"Good thing I restocked on pokeballs back in the other town" Toby said.

The Forest…

Toby and Eevee walked through the forest. The young trainer saw that there were a lot of Taillows and Rattatas. One was a useful flying-type while the other was a useless normal-type.

"Rattata kind of sucks. I wouldn't mind capturing a Taillow though" Toby commented. "Although, since Rustboro's got a rock-type gym, a grass-type like Shroomish would be a good idea." He muttered, looking around, trying to see if he could find any of the mushroom Pokémon. "I could always capture both. What are the odds I'd run into both at the same time though?" Toby asked himself.

Suddenly a shout could barely be heard. Curious Toby decided to investigate. It kind of sounded like a girl's shriek. Running Toby saw a young girl around his age confronting an Azurill.

"Too cute! Can't resist. Must have!" The girl said, pulling out a pokeball. "Ralts, come on out!" She said, tossing the pokeball, releasing the Psychic/Fairy-type. Toby pulled out his Pokedex.

"Ralts, the feeling pokemon, a psychic/fairy-type. Ralts senses the emotions of people. It rarely shows itself, but when it does, it draws closer if it senses that person has a positive disposition." The device said. That's when Toby noticed something.

"Hey, that Ralt is a shiny, just like you Eevee!" Toby said. Sure enough, while the Ralts in the Pokedex had green hair and pink horns, the one the girl sent out had blue hair and orange horns.

"Ok, you can do this, Faye" the girl said to herself. Toby watched as the girl and her Ralts stared down their opponent. "Ralts, Lucky Chant!" She commanded her pokemon.

The feeling Pokémon then started chanting, being surrounded by a red aura.

"Smart, protecting it and any other Pokémon from critical hits." Toby muttered as the ball on the Azurill's tail started glowing, after which it jumped up and started slamming downward. "Especially since that's Iron Tail which is super effective against Fairy-Types!" Toby said.

"Quick, Double Team!" The girl cried as Ralts created clones of itself, raising its evasiveness, causing Azurill to miss. "Now use confusion!" Faye said.

Ralts' eyes then glowed blue and a blue aura surrounded the Polka Dot Pokémon before it was tossed aside.

"Finish with Magical Leaf!" Faye said as Ralts summoned several green leaves and launched them at Azurill, sending it crashing into a tree. Unbeknownst to any of them, this caused several objects to fall to the ground. Taking the opportunity, Faye pulled out a Pokeball and enlarged it. "Let's do this! Go, pokeball!" She said, tossing the item.

The ball hit the Pokemon on the head, enveloping it in a red light before pulling it in and shutting close. The ball the fell to the ground and wobbled.

*click* signifying the Pokemon's capture. Once the capture was completed, a smile started creeping on Faye's face. Soon she was jumping up and down with joy.

"Yay! I did it! I caught Azuril!" Faye cheered. Ralts joined in on the cheering as she picked up the Poke ball. "Isn't this amazing Ralts?! Now we're one step closer to achieving our dreams!" She excitedly said.

"Ralts!" The feeling Pokémon said in agreement.

"I'll admit, that was impressive." Toby said revealing himself.

"Thanks" Faye turned to him, "Hey, you're that trainer with the shiny Eevee I saw the other day. That was a nice battle you had" she commented.

"Thanks. You have a shiny Pokémon, too, I see" Toby noted.

"Yep, Ralts here is my trusted partner and best friend. I'm Faye by the way." She said.

"Toby. Nice to meet you." He said.

Suddenly out of the corner of their eyes they noticed a bright flash of light originating from the area Azurill crashed into. When the light subsided, a swarm of Beedrill popped out of the bushes. The sight of the Bug/Poison-types caused Faye to freeze up with a terrified expression on her face.

"Eevee, use Sand Attack!" Toby commanded, Eevee kicked the ground, creating a cloud of dust that distracted the bee Pokémon, "Come on!" Toby said, taking Faye by the hand while running.

"That light must have been a bunch of Kakuna evolving, which means your battle knocked them out of the tree!" Toby said as he continued to drag the still motionless girl. Soon they reached a clearing. "That should be far enough. Is everyone alright? Eevee, Ralts?" He asked the two shinies who simply nodded. "Good, what about you Faye?" He asked, only to see she still was in a state of shock. "Faye?" He asked, lightly tapping her, causing her to fall down.

"Poison types... S-So many p-poison types..." She said.

Soon, after allowing Faye time to recover, the two trainers started talking while allowing their Pokémon to play.

"What was with that?" Toby asked. "You were totally paralyzed back there."

Faye simply shook her head. "Sorry, it's just… I'm downright terrified of Poison-type Pokémon. Beedrill, Gengar, Vileplume, Arbok, Weezing, all of them." She shuddered before looking at her Ralts. "It all started a couple years ago…"

[Flashback]

A young Faye was on the ground, backing away as a swarm of Gulpin approached her.

Faye: I had accidentally wandered from home when I found myself surrounded by Gulpin…

It was at that moment that the stomach Pokémon was lifted of the ground by a blue aura. Faye turned to see a Ralts, struggling to use confusion to dispatch them.

"Ralts!" The Pokémon cried sending the Gulpin flying.

Faye: My Ralts is the same one who saved me that day. We've been best friends ever since.

[End of Flashback]

"When I finally got old enough to become a trainer, I asked her to be my partner, and she happily agreed. Since that encounter with the Gulpin, I've been afraid of the Poison-Type and in love with the Fairy-type. Now it's my dream to be the greatest Fairy-type trainer ever!" Faye said as visions of various Fairy-type Pokémon filled her head.

"That's an ambitious dream. Me, I plan on being the next champion of the Hoenn region" Toby clenched a fist of determination.

"Cool!" Faye smiled.

"I'm headed to Rustboro, you wanna come with?" Toby offered.

"You want me to come with you?" Faye asked in surprise.

"Sure. You need to heal up your Azuril, don't you? Besides, it'd be nice to have some company on the way there" Toby told her. Suddenly a barking noise could be heard. The two turned to see Toby's Poochyena in a frantic state. "Poochyena, what's wrong?" He asked the Dark-type who signaled them to follow him. Soon they arrived to see Eevee and Ralts in a sort of energy cage, trying to get out, but to no avail.

"Ralts!" Faye said with worry.

"Eevee!" Toby said in the same tone, "Who did this?" He asked before the two of them heard laughter.

They looked up to see two figures, one female with long, orangish-blonde hair; the other, male with short green hair. They both wore black uniforms with a red R on the shirts.

"Who are you?!" Toby asked.

Cassidy: Prepare for trouble...

Butch: ...and make it double!

Both: Here's our mission, so you better listen!

Cassidy: To infect the world with devastation!

Butch: To blight all people in every nation!

Cassidy: To denounce the goodness of truth and love!

Butch: To extend our wrath to the stars above!

Cassidy: Cassidy!

Butch: And Butch, of course!

Cassidy: We're Team Rocket, circling Earth all day and night!

Butch: Surrender to us now or you will surely lose the fight!

"Team Rocket?" The two kids questioned.

"That's right!" Cassidy said.

"I've heard of Team Magma and Team Aqua though" Toby told them.

"Cassidy and Biff?" Faye asked, much to Butch's frustration.

"SERIOUSLY! WE HAVEN'T EVEN KNOWN EACH OTHER 5 MINUTES AND ALREADY YOU MESS UP MY NAME?!" He asked in anger.

"And how could you have heard of those crackpots but not Team Rocket?! We're a well-known criminal organization from Kanto and Johto!" Cassidy said.

"Oh, no wonder. This is Hoenn, dudes!" Toby said.

"If you guys are from Kanto and Johto, what are you doing in Hoenn?" Faye asked.

"Well I'd rather be in Kalos or Alola, but for some strange reason, our boss Giovanni gave those details to a certain bumbling red haired witch!" Cassidy said angrily.

"Wow, that sucks" Toby said.

"Why did you capture our Pokémon? Let them go!" Faye demanded.

"No can do, girlie." Butch said picking up the cage. "Our boss pays us to capture rare and valuable Pokémon, and these two shinies are as rare and valuable as can get!"

"Well then, looks like we'll have to fight you to get them back" Toby glared at them, "Poochyena!" The puppy Pokémon stood in front of his trainer. "Use Bite to get that cage out of Felix's hands!" He commanded as Poochyena charged.

"Felix?! You weren't even trying with that one!" Butch said as the Bite Pokémon sunk his fangs into Butch's arm, forcing him to drop the cage.

"Azuril, come on out!" Faye tossed the pokeball and sent out the Pokémon she just caught.

"Use Iron Tail to try and break the cage open!" She commanded the Normal/Fairy-Type.

"Azuril!" Azuril shouted, using its tail to shatter the cage in half.

Eevee and Ralts jumped in their trainer's arms with glee.

"Well, if it's a battle you want..." Cassidy said, pulling out a Pokeball.
"It's a battle you'll get!" Butch said pulling one of his own out.

However, before anyone could do anything, a purple aura started surrounding Eevee.

"Eevee?" Toby looked at his starter with a mixture of curiosity and confusion.

The aura surrounding Eevee took the form of an Espeon before entering the shiny Pokémon, allowing him to unleash a burst of psychokinetic energy that hit the Team Rocket duo, sending them flying.

"Bye Cassidy, bye Botch!" Faye said.

"IT'S BUTCH!" Butch cried as he and Cassidy were sent flying out of sight by the mysterious attack.

"Uhh... What the hell did Eevee just do?" Toby looked at his starter.

"Yeah, that was strange." Faye said as Eevee simply stared at the two with a smile on his face and tail wagging. "But who cares?!" Faye beamed.

"Yeah. You were awesome, Eevee!" Toby said as he scooped the Pokémon into a hug.

"Eevee!" Eevee nuzzled his cheek.

"Now come on, let's head to Rustboro!" Toby said as his Pokémon followed him.

Ralts then noticed Faye had a slight smile on her face before she followed him.

Meanwhile, in another part of the forest, Butch and Cassidy found themselves on a tree branch, while Butch was looking through a handheld computer for something. Cassidy was furious over what just happened.

"I can't believe this. Beaten by a couple of twerps!" Cassidy said with annoyance, "What're you doing?" She asked her partner.

"Trying to find information on the attack that Eevee used. I noticed the aura that surrounded it took the form of an Espeon, so I'm guessing it's a psychic-type move. Unfortunately, I'm not having any luck." Butch said as he reached the bottom of a list detailing all known Psychic-type moves in Team Rocket's database.

"And you've found nothing?" Cassidy asked.

"Zip, nada, Swanna-egg." Butch said annoyed.

"Hm. It must be a special Eevee then" Cassidy rubbed her chin, "Hey, wait a minute! Kim, you thinking what I'm thinking?" Cassidy asked.

"Seriously? Even you're getting my name wrong?" Butch said, annoyed. "And you weren't even trying with that one!" He said, even more annoyed, "What're you thinking?" Butch asked.

"If we catch that Eevee, send it to Professor Bomba-" Cassidy said, only to be cut off by a phone ringing. "Hello?" She asked.

"IT'S NAMBA!" An angry voice rang out, making them flinch.

"Anyway, he can study it, discover it's secrets, then send it to the boss..." Cassidy said with a sly smirk on her face.

"I like that plan" Butch smirked.

"With that much power, it can put that Pikachu Jessie and her nitwits have been chasing to shame!" Cassidy said eagerly.

The duo shared a laugh. Cassidy then pulled out her phone.

"What are you doing?" Butch asked.

"Calling Jessie to gloat." Cassidy said. "Dang it, voicemail." She said as another woman's voice rang out.

Jessie: Hello, you've reached Jessie, the most beautiful woman in the world, I can't reach my phone right now, as I'm currently either relaxing on the beaches of Alola, selling Malasadas, or trying to catch the most powerful Pikachu in the world. Leave a message after the beep and I might get back to you.

"Figures that would be her voicemail." Cassidy said.

"Here you go, your Pokemon are all healed up" Nurse Joy said while handing Toby and Faye their Pokémon.

"Thanks, Nurse Joy." They said, picking up the Pokeballs, Eevee hopping on to Toby's shoulder.

"Aren't you going to put Eevee back into his pokeball?" Faye asked.

"Nah, Eevee prefers to be an outside Pokémon" Toby replied, "Although, I do still carry his pokeball just in case" he said, showing the girl the unique pokeball.

"I've never seen one like that before." Faye commented on Eevee's uniquely colored pokeball.

"Yeah, it came with Eevee" Toby replied.

"Although if what just happened with those weirdos is anything to go by, the unique colors aren't the only things different about him." Toby said looking at the Pokémon on his shoulder.

"That is just too cute!" Faye gushed, pulling out her phone and taking a picture.

"Now, to head for the Rustboro gym!" Toby said. Faye smiled and followed him.

Narrator: New friends, new enemies, what else could be in store for young Toby and his Eevee?

Meanwhile, in a different part of Petalburg Forest, a tent opened up. Stepping out was a young man, a couple of years older than Toby and Faye, with a muscular body, black gloves, blue jeans, a crimson shirt, and slick black hair. The young man tossed a Pokeball, and out came a Beldum, but this was a special one, whereas normal Beldum have silver bodies and grey claws, this one had a grey body and orange claws.

"Well, Beldum, buddy. I don't know about you, but I've got a good feeling about today!" The youth said told the shiny Iron Ball Pokémon.

"Beldum!" It said in eagerness.

Ok, that's it for chapter 3. This chapter was co-written with JTWAS1994. I decided to use Butch and Cassidy for the Team Rocket that Toby and Faye face since it's been a long time since we've seen them (as far as I know at least).

Faye is on OC created by JTWAS1994 and, like Toby, she too has a shiny starter. If I'm being honest, in terms of personality, she's seems like a cross between Dawn, Serena, and a bit of Misty. In terms of what Pokémon she likes and dislikes, she's kind of like a cross between Misty and Iris (I don't like Iris) … mainly the former. That's how I see her at least. I like Faye.

That aura thing that Eevee had was the first sign of Toby's starter not being a normal Eevee. This is going to be fun.
