Summary/disclaimer: Time for another chapter of Waves of Woe. Enjoy the 900-word chapter. I don't own Steven Universe. Rebecca Sugar and a few others do.

Howlite hummed and picked over the shores of the planet. Lapis had returned to her duties; it didn't fully stop the duo from talking to each other.

"So, how does it usually feel?" Howlite questioned which caused Lapis to look downwards. "I mean terraforming. The diamonds made Lapis gems for transforming planets, right? How does it feel? So much power and so much you can do with it." Howlite said as he ran a finger over his gloved hands.

"It's what I was made to do." Lapis stated which caused Howlite to hum. "Just like you were made to do… Something, I guess." Lapis put in as Howlite looked around.

"Infiltrate, I believe." Howlite said as he brushed off his arms. "And it still doesn't answer my question. Terraforming can't be all you do, can it?" Howlite stated as he turned and sat on a stone next to the shore.

Howlite knew for a fact that Lapis didn't know him. He didn't know her. Yet? He felt himself wanting to.

"I do what the diamonds command." Lapis put in which was greeted by Howlite raising an eyebrow. "We shouldn't care about anything but what the diamonds want." Lapis added as Howlite rolled his eyes.

"I like studying planets." Howlite put in as he turned and noticed lines of heat. "Not just because they ask. I'm learning data about this planet every second, it's interesting." Howlite said as he turned and noticed an object stuck in the ground.

Lapis floated down with interest as Howlite started to look around. He turned the weapon over and looked at her.

"Whoever lived here was primitive." Howlite stated as he ran a finger over the object. "Very primitive… Still? I'm curious why your escort left. This spear seems more like it's thrown then used for melee combat… The head is designed to break off when it embeds into something." Howlite stabbed as he examined the point of the head of the weapon.

"They said it was ok to be here." Lapis said which caused Howlite to hum and shake his head.

"I doubt it." Howlite said as he leaned down to examine a set of tracks in the sand. "These prints don't belong to rubies or quartz soldiers. Their hunters, work in packs. If there's no bodies…" Howlite muttered before straightening up.

He turned to Lapis and turned the spear over. He turned on his visor before stabbing the weapon into the ground.

"There's still people here…" Howlite muttered as he turned and held out a hand. "Let me handle them, stay behind me." Howlite stated as he shook his head.

The rubies and quartz had gotten sloppy. He didn't see sentries on the permitter. He didn't see anyone taking up patrols or scouting.

They had truly just left Lapis to deal with her own affairs. Why would they be so stupid as to not leave a garrison unit to deal with it at the moment? They had dozens of thousands of soldiers when it came down to it.

Howlite hummed as he noticed something start to drip down his fist. He looked at his hand only to notice it was hot, burning even.

He didn't notice what it was at the moment, but he turned and hummed once more. He knew something was coming and his last thought was involving Lapis is in.

"Primitives are coming back?" Lapis questioned as Howlite hummed and started walking towards the forest.

"Yes." Howlite mentioned as he turned to Lapis. "You shouldn't stay here. They will circle back and attack… And while I don't know if they've fought gems before? I am aware that there is an 82% percent chance that they will attack you and try to kill you." Howlite put in as he brushed off his hands.

He knew very well that this would not be easy… Well, it depended on if the natives had current technology or not. If they hadn't? Then it might be an easy fight, if not? Then it wouldn't be when it came down to it.

However? Howlite knew very well that he had to fight sooner or later. Might as well get in some training.

"Stay here." Howlite stated as he turned and started out along the shore of the planet. "I need to make sure that their not a threat… Hopefully they will not be and I will be back soon." Howlite added as he turned.

"Wait!" Howlite heard over his shoulder as he turned to look at Lapis. "Can you stay here? They might circle around towards here. I'd like a guard while I'm busy dealing with the terraforming." Lapis questioned as Howlite hummed.

A good point. They would come back to finish off Lapis if he didn't take care of them first. And while he wasn't a combat gem primarily? He knew he couldn't maintain a permitter by himself.
