Chapter 2: Past to Present

Nigel was strapped to a machine, he was screaming, "Mommy!" over and over. The scientist said, "he's not dead so that's good." A figure in the shadows replied in an unnatural voice, "Of course he isn't dead, I made the calculations personally."

A few minutes passed with Nigel screeching. The scientist then said, "if this succeeds it could be revolutionary." The other figure while still in the shadows said, "of course it will work, like I said I made all of th-." He was interrupted by the door swinging open and a dog rushing into the lab. The scientist shrieked in horror while the dog ran into the machine making it beep loudly. The figure then shouted, "what is that mutt doing in the lab!" security came in next and took the dog away, but it was too late. "The integrity is failing!" the scientist said. Nigel passed out. The scientist ran out of the room leaving Nigel and the shadowy figure in the room alone. The figure whispered, "All of my plans depend on you, so you better not mess it up." The scientist came back with supplies a few moments later and immediately started to fix the machine up and said, "if I can get it done fast enough it might work." After a minute or two, the scientist said, "Um his didn't turn out the way you asked Fintan"
Sophie's POV after using telekinesis

"Watch out!" Fitz shouted, yanking me out of the way a split second before the lantern crashed to the ground. I gazed into his eyes and my heart did a little fluttery thing.

"how did you do that?" he whispered.

"I have no idea." I sat up. Nothing made sense to me anymore.

"We need to get out of here," Fitz said, pointing at the driver.

"He saw," I gasped.

She was too overwhelmed to make a plan on her own, so she didn't resist as he dragged her down the street. "Which way?" Fitz asked. She didn't want to be alone with him, so she pointed north, toward the San Diego Zoo, where there was sure to be tons of people- even during a firestorm. They took off running, she looked behind her and noticed a figure, but as she blinked it vanished.
Nigel's POV

She gave a quick glance at me, but just as fast, I disappeared to a nearby alleyway. My brain stung with curiosity as I poked my head out of the alleyway looking to find the mysterious boy and girl gone. Maybe if I had introduced myself to them, they could answer all my questions. But the confusion and panic drove me in the wrong direction. It was hard not knowing who I was or where was from. I was tired of finding no one like me. I was tired of pretending to be something I was not. I was especially tired of no answers to my questions. I needed to find out who I truly was. And I knew this was going to be the closest I will ever get to finding out. Without hesitation I continued following them. If only I had known of the consequences that would come with that choice.
