Author's Note: I've always loved to think that Jinora loved Kai's eyes and that Kai loved Jinora's. Also, I thought this was a super fluffy idea that was sickeningly sweet enough for me to write, so yeah. (I case anyone was wondering about age for this one, both Jinora and Kai are about 14)

DISCLAIMER: I don't own any of the characters from Legend of Korra or the show itself.

"You have pretty eyes," Jinora said, breaking the comfortable silence.

She was laying next to Kai, her head resting against her bison's luscious fur. It was a little more than three months after Kuvira's defeat, and the couple had decided to take a break for a little and spend some time together. There was hardly any time to just relax, seeing they had been very busy over the past few months, each with their own respective duties. Kai had been traveling with Opal across the Earth Kingdom and restoring balance in the villages previously conquered by the Earth Empire. And while Jinora had wanted nothing more than to go with them, she had her responsibilities back home and in the city. After all, she was one of the two airbending masters in the entire world, so a lot was expected of her.

But, she figured the world could wait for at least a couple of weeks while she caught up on missed time with her boyfriend.

And so she was here, curled up on Pepper's side deep in the valley beside Air Temple Island and relishing the peace and quiet.

That, and admiring a drowsy Kai, of course.

"Hmm?" He rolled over, the shining sun glinting off his lidded eyes as he attempted to rub the sleep right out of them. Jinora's heart swelled at his cuteness, and she reached an arm out to brush away stray locks of his chocolate hair.

"Your eyes," she clarified, heartbeat quickening when he finally looked at her clearly. "They're really pretty."

She wasn't wrong. They were a vivid green, but somehow, that didn't seem like a description she thought put their beauty to justice.

They reminded her of the freshness of a spring day, vibrant with blossoming life and energy. The counterpart to this playfulness is the serenity one feels when they are caught in his enticing net, a fish baited with the finest of delicacies. Whenever she looked into his eyes, she felt safe; secure; whole again.

When the sun hit them, there was a dazzling sparkle that was unignorable. Jinora remembered this one time, her parents had taken her to a showing in the Republic City Natural History Museum. She had wandered around the galleries, looking around the different gems and jewelry on display, until she reached the most beguiling thing she had ever seen. An exquisite emerald, the brilliant light pointed at it refracting throughout its depths.

And yet, while that came close to painting a picture of what Kai's eyes were like, even the priceless gem couldn't compare to the pricelessness of his gaze.

"Yours are absolutely gorgeous." Kai's stare was unwavering, and a flush crept up her neck.

"Mine?" Jinora shyly tucked her hair behind her ears. "Mine are just boring old brown."

"That's ridiculous," Kai scoffed. "Your eyes...they're the color of life itself; bounding with endless possibilities. They're the richest chocolate that melts into pure rays of molten gold in the afternoon. And in the evening, they turn into an opalescent sunset of their own." He gently smiled at her, voice soft. "Your eyes are the most beautiful thing I've ever seen."

Jinora thought her heart was going to pound right out of her chest. "Really?" she whispered.

"Yeah," he said. "Really."

The sounds of nature took over, and the two airbenders just looked at each other. Jinora found she couldn't help but break into a bashful smile, and Kai's lips pulled up into a grin. They burst into a fit of giggles, laughing until their sides ached.

As the laughter died down, Kai managed to look at Jinora. She was gasping for air, a bright smile upon her face. His expression softened, and before he could think about what he was saying, he blurted out three words.

"I love you."

Time went on a standstill as both teens processed what had happened. It was the first time he had ever told her that. Of course, he thought it in his head, but he had never said it out loud before.

A furious blush ripped across Kai's cheeks and he was about to apologize when something shut him up.

"I-I love you, too," Jinora said, a light blush dusting her face. She leaned in, placing a gentle kiss on his cheek. Before she could pull her hand away from his face, he grabbed her wrist. Turning his hand, he laced their fingers together and let their joined hands flop onto the sky bison, smiling from ear to ear.

"I'm glad I met you." Kai watched with a racing heart as Jinora shot him a soft smile.

"So am I."
