Jinora couldn't sleep. It had been a decade sine Korra's death, and per her wishes, no serious effort was made to find her reincarnation until now. It was agreed that it was best to let all future Avatars to have at least a decade to just be themselves, and to have a grounded identity outside of being the Avatar. This was something Korra was denied, unlike her previous lives.
Although that didn't mean that the world wasn't expecting some news about the new Avatar. Some had even spread rumors that Korra had broken the cycle during Harmonic Convergence, which was untrue. The new Avatar was a 10-year-old in the Earth Kingdom, and they just had to be found within six years. Afterall, there was still the tradition of revealing the next Avatar when they turned 16, as was what happened with Roku, and was supposed to happen with Aang, Korra, and Kiyoshi.
Jinora sighed. Not only was she now in charge of Air Temple Island, but, she also was in charge of finding the next Avatar. She owed it to her friend, whom she loved like an older sister. She also owed it to her grandfather, the world's 2nd-youngest Air-Bending Master.
Jinora felt the full moon's glow bath her in warm light. She carefully got out of bed, so as not to disturb a sleeping Kai, and walked to the window. She pressed her hand to the glass and whispered, "Great-Aunt Yue, I don't know what to do. We've been searching everywhere, and still no sign. Do you know where we should look?"
The moon looked back at her. There were places that hadn't been touched yet.
"I know there's still places we need to look at, but the Earth Kingdom is so big." Jinora replied, "If you know, please, just tell me the general area."
A beam of moonlight shot through the window and onto a map of the Earth Kingdom on the wall. Jinora went over to it. The light shone over a mountainous region near a dessert, that seemed to have some grassland in-between. With a smile, Jinora quickly grabbed a pen and traced over the light, so she'd remember later.
When she was done, Jinora turned back to the moon, and said with a smile and a bow, "Thank you Great-Aunt Yue."
The Moon removed the light from the map and bathed the young women in her light again, as if to say, "You're welcome dear." Then, the light shone on the bed, as if to say, "Now get some sleep."
"I will." Jinora answered, then carefully got back into bed. With one last look at the Moon, the Air-Bending Master whispered, "Good night Great-Aunt Yue. Thank you for everything." Then, she finally drifted off to sleep.
