Sandy was thankful that Randy hadn't brought up Shadow during their shared breakfast at the coffee shop a few blocks from his apartment. Randy helped himself to another large cup of coffee with his food as Sandy opted for some tea in an effort to kick start her new pregnancy health plan… even though she hadn't thought it completely out just yet.
"Ya know if it's a boy, Randy would be a pretty impressive name fer the little fella." The male squirrel winked at his sister as he threw his empty sandwich wrapper in the middle of the table and took a large gulp from his steaming beverage.
"The last thing I need is ta have two Randy's ta yell at." Sandy sighed as she rewrapped her half-eaten breakfast sandwich and placed it in the middle of the table next to Randy's discarded wrapper. Randy quickly picked up Sandy's uneaten food and started to help himself to it.
"Just don't name him after pa." Randy huffed between bits of his sisters unfinished meal.
"What about naming him after his daddy?" Sandy couldn't help but grin as she teased her brother, as she brought up her husband that she was currently at odds against. Randy had made it clear many times that he thought Shadow's name was stupid, and called into the question of sanity of the person who named him as such.
Randy looked at her blankly and even stopped chewing the last of her sandwich for a minute before he finally swallowed loudly. "Ok… ya can name him after pa."
"I think Randy would be a cute name." She sipped on her tea as her brother looked at her hopefully. "A cute middle name."
Her brother just laughed at her in response, but after she looked up at him, she could clearly see the joy on his face. "Best ta stick with greatness, oh sister of mine!" Randy beamed as he now tossed her empty food wrapper next to his on the table.
Sandy shook her head in disapproval and amusement. "Ya are starting ta sound like Static."
"I'll take yer word fer it cause most of what I've heard that guy say was with a stripper sitting on his face." Randy opened his mouth in shock before coving it with his hand which earned him a slug in his shoulder from his sister.
"He ain't that bad." She glared at him. She knew full well he was joking, but Static was a good friend and she felt the need to protect him… even if he was nowhere around and it was just her brother's relentless teasing. She responded the same way to her twins jabs at her husband.
The two slowly finished up their drinks while continuing to joke around, and occasionally bring up a serious topic or to about her impending motherhood. Randy had successfully talked her into stay another night at his place as her and Shadow's blow out must have been pretty intense with how she had showed up at his apartment the night before. Sandy reluctantly accepted but ended up happy that she did so. Randy made enchiladas for their dinner, and if there was one thing her brother could do right it was cooking. Randy let her sleep in his bed again, so she didn't have to break her back on Jeff's sad excuse of a couch.
Come Sunday early afternoon Sandy finally hugged her brother, and his bad influence of a roommate, goodbye and drove back to her house. Sandy was a bit concerned when she didn't see her husband's car in the driveway, but the majority of her nerves were thrilled that she knew for sure she wasn't walking into an argument coming back home. Well… at least not at this moment.
After opening the door Sandy dropped to her knees and took Rune into a hug to greet him before standing up and refilling his still mostly full food and water bowls. Rune lapped up the fresh water happily as Sandy went back and shut the door. The female then took her bag back into the main bedroom and emptied it appropriately, before jumping in the shower. After throughally drying herself off Sandy dressed in her Pj's, despite the fact it was only 3 PM Sunday. She was far to stressed to deal with the day anymore… So, she decided it would be best if she got comfortable and prepared to relax for the rest of the night. Hopefully, Shadow would also only want to unwind after he returned back home… If he did return at all.
By the time 08:00 PM rolled around Sandy was feeling sick again and fairly tired. She quickly made her way to bed, as Rune followed behind her. She was worried about Shadow despite how upset she was with him. After shifting her body around in the bed for a few hours she finally starting to fall asleep as Rune cuddled up to her legs and tummy. Sandy pet the mutt a few times before sighing heavily and then finally passing out.
Shadow walked into the house a bit on edge as Sandy's car was finally occupying its spot in their driveway once again. He knew full well she had gone to stay with her brother, as she usually did when they had a large fight, however this was the first time she had been gone multiple nights. Shadow figured it was for the best as he was still trying to think things out himself, and likely even now was still far too early to try to come to an agreement with one another. Yet he was still yearning to try.
Right after she left, he tried to tell himself he didn't care. She was being unreasonable, and he was better off fuming alone without her in sight. However, not long after she left he found himself missing her presence even if they would just be yelling at one another in disagreement. An involuntary gulp made it's way down his throat as he quietly made his way towards their bedroom as the whole house was residing in darkness.
"She had to be in bed." He thought to himself. He struggled with himself inside his own mind on whether he should wake her, and likely start and unpleasant conversation, or just lay next to her and enjoy finally being near her again even if she was in an incapacitated state.
Shadow gingerly opened the master bedroom door and stepped lightly into it. Rune looked up to acknowledge him causing Sandy to readjuster herself lightly. Their pet then stood up and jumped off the bed now that his master was home and likely wanted to take his spot in bed next to the female of the house. Shadow started to undress himself as he closed the door behind him. By the time he was fully naked his eyes had readjusted to the dark enough to fully make out Sandy's outline as well as many of the other items in the room. His night vision was far superior to that of normal people, and at times like this he was grateful for that.
The male of the house slipped beneath the covers of the bed and laid himself facing towards her, only a few inches from rubbing his body up against hers. She slightly moved once again and turned onto her back instead of laying facing away from him. Shadow couldn't help himself and reached out to gently run his fingers over the exposed fur on her body. His mind went a bit sideways as he realized she too was completely naked. The two generally wore little clothing when in bed, and often none, but he wasn't expecting her to be so exposed after running off for so long.
"It was only two nights." He scolded himself. "Two nights of living hell." The continued to argue inside his own head.
Shadow jerked slightly in surprise when he felt Sandy reach out one of her hands and place it on top of his that continued to pet her thin framed body. He quickly turned his hand over and gripped his wife's as he moved closer to her so their bodies were fully making contact. The hedgehog moved his face even closers to her and started kissing her cheek bone and then made his way down to her shoulder before working his way back up. He used his free hand to pull her face towards his right before finally sensually kissing her lips.
Sandy responded by turning her body towards him and grabbed onto him vigorously. They continued to kiss and touch for more than a few minutes before Shadow found his way on top of her and they both fell into the bliss of making love. When they were finished, they lightly cleaned up before cuddling into one another and falling asleep without saying a single word.
"Maybe things will be ok after all?" Shadow wondered as he started to drift off as he tightly held her in his arms.
