Now for chapter 3. Let's get to it. I do not own Fairy Tail.
(Lucy's P.O.V.)
I was finishing sweeping the front of the shop when Mira walked back inside. "How'd it go?" I asked.
"Great!" Mira chirped. "I talked to Laxus about what needs to happen. I asked him to send over a list of his employees, and I would make teams from that."
"No fuss?" I asked.
"None." Mira said. She turned to the coat rack and hung up her coat. "Laxus and I know each other pretty well. We used to be roommates in college."
"They let that happen?" I asked. "Isn't it policy for boys and girls not to share dorms?"
"In some colleges, yes, but not the one Laxus and I went to." Mira answered. "They were much more laid back about that sort of thing. It was fun!"
"So when's he going to give you the list?" I asked.
"Probably later tonight, or in a few minutes." Mira said. "He has a tendency to do things right away or the last minute. Depends on the day, I guess. Anyway, I'll be in the back if you need anything." Mira walked behind the counter and disappeared into the back of the shop.
I pushed myself out from underneath the stove vent… thing, whatever it was. I was covered in dirt and grime. I was definitely going to need a bath when I got home. But this was the last thing that needed to be done for cleaning, so at least that part was finished. I sprawled my arms out to my sides and let out a groan of relief.
"Are you okay Lu?" Levy asked.
"I'm fine." I told her. "Don't worry about me." I stood up and grabbed a rag to wipe myself off. "But I don't know why I had to be the one to wipe it down. I don't even use the thing!"
"I know, but when Erza gives a command you follow it." Levy said.
"Ain't that the truth." I muttered. "Anyway, see you tomorrow Levy."
"See you Lu!" Levy said, and the two of us walked out the door, her to her library, me to my bathtub.
After about an hour, I got a text from Mira.
Hey, it said, I've figured out partners for the parade. You're being teamed up with Natsu Dragneel. You'll be able to find him because he's got pink hair. I heard from Laxus that he can be a little unpredictable, so you need to make sure to keep him in line. Here's his address and phone number if you need it! At the end was a street name and house number, which I assumed was Natsu's address, along with his phone number.
Okay! I texted back. Thanks for the information! I'll be sure to talk to him as soon as I can. Do you have anything you want us to work on?
I then started typing up Natsu's number to start talking to him. Hello, I started, I'm Lucy Heartfilia. I just got told that we're supposed to be working together for the festival that's coming up. I was given your phone number to contact you. I hope we can work well together!
I got a text back from him almost immediately. HI! I'm Natsu Dragneel. Glad to be workin' with ya! So, any idea what we need to do? I can't wait to par tay! I giggled a little at his enthusiasm.
Nice to see that you're excited for it. I told him. Mira hasn't gotten back to me yet about what we're supposed to be doing, so I'm not quite sure.
Cool. Hope she tells you soon. He texted. I actually witnessed the conversation between the two about it. Apparently Mira has something she's known for? And Laxus seemed to like her, so she's got to be cool. And since you know her, that means you're cool.
I didn't quite understand his logic, but at least he was excited to get started. I'd had plenty of group projects where no one wanted to do anything. This was a nice change of pace. Well, goodnight Natsu. I'm going to bed.
Goodnight Luce! He texted. Luce? Was that a nickname he gave me? I didn't expect that. But that was probably just how he was. I put my phone on the charger and pulled up my covers.
(Natsu's P.O.V.)
I stared at my phone. Laxus hadn't said anything about who I was going to be working with, but this Lucy character seemed nice. But that name was familiar. Heartfilia specifically. Where did I know it from? Oh well. If I didn't remember, it wasn't that important.
"Hey Natsu?" Wendy asked. "I hope I'm not disrupting your sleep."
"Nah, you're not." I told her. "What'd you need?"
"I was having some trouble with math." she said.
"Math." I said. "The nigh unbeatable monster. The ruiner of minds. The fearsome beast that never lets go! The-"
"Natsu, stop." Wendy giggled. "You know, I could always ask Gajeel instead."
"Gajeel?" I asked. "That guy wouldn't know math if it punched him on the nose! And then he'd miss when he swung at it!" I got out of my bed and followed Wendy to her room. "Alright, tell me what's up."
"I'm stuck on this problem." Wendy said, pointing to the paper that had all her work. "I need to the foci of this ellipse."
"I have no idea what you mean." I said. "Have you looked in your textbook?"
"I don't know where it is." Wendy said.
"Any idea where you put it?" I asked her.
"I last remember having it in the kitchen, but I already looked there and I couldn't find it." Wendy said.
"Don't worry, I'll find it for you. I'm great at finding things." I told her. "I haven't lost a game of hide-and-seek yet!" I went down to the kitchen and started searching. Knowing Wendy, she'd probably started working on the counter, since she liked to sit there after school. After that, she likely got distracted by Carla, Happy, or Pantherlily, likely Carla. Then Gajeel probably moved the book so it wouldn't get damaged, which meant it was probably on somewhere in the living room. So I looked and there it was, right on the end table covered by various mechanics magazines. I brought it up to Wendy. "Here ya are!"
She gratefully took the book from me. "Thank you so much Natsu!"
"Ah, it was no biggie." I told her. "Just try not to lose it again in the future."
"I promise!" Wendy said. I went back into my room and climbed into bed.
Natsu and Lucy have made their first connection! Progress! And we got a cute Natsu and Wendy family moment too. Next chapter will be when things finally start happening, and by that I mean the Dragon Tail Bakery and Fairy Sweet will actually start interacting with each other. Which should be fun. See you next chapter.
