"Wake up kid, we'll get to Beacon in five."
Groggily Percy sat up, feeling as if he just had the best sleep of his life. "How is… Amber?"
"Amber's right. She'll survive thanks to you, but the doctors said that until they can take a look at her with better equipment they wouldn't know for sure. Speaking of that, how did you manage to seal her wound so quickly? She wasn't even bleeding when we boarded the bullhead."
Uncomfortable, Percy shifted in his seat. "It has to do with my p-semblance. I can control water and, as long as I have it in my line of sight, blood. I use it as a last resort though, it takes a lot out of me. When you got there earlier, I wasn't in any condition to fight, but luckily you ended up being friendly."
Qrow whistled, "That's a powerful semblance you got there. Now go freshen up a bit, the bathroom is that way."
Turning to where Qrow was pointing, Percy uttered a quick "thanks" and took off, leaving a pensive man behind.
Jumping out of the bullhead, Percy turned his gaze to the school. 'Annabeth would go crazy with the architecture; this school looks amazing. It has nothing on Olympus but for a bunch of mortals this is impressive.' Feeling Qrow landing beside him, he gestured to the school, "Nice place you got here."
"Yeah," replied the huntsman, "its something else. Now come on, I'll take you to the headmaster's office."
Nodding, Percy started following Qrow, who started telling the demigod stories about his team and what they got up to in school.
Stepping inside an elevator Percy started wondering if he found himself in a Harry Potter situation, with a headmaster being a public figure that had, from what he had seen and heard from Qrow, a lot of influence in the society. 'Maybe I can convince him to help me, if he is as powerful as Qrow makes him to be then it would be a good idea to reveal my origins, and hopefully get myself a legal identity in this world.'
With a ping the doors opened, and an admittedly impressive office came into view. Amused, Percy thought how this was the first time that he visited a headmaster without having gotten in trouble beforehand. Well, technically.
"Hey there Oz," slurred Qrow. "This is the guy I was telling you about."
Percy then turned his attention to Ozpin, who was seated behind his desk, a cup of some hot drink resting between his hands. With a barely noticeable dip of his head, Ozpin greeted the demigod, "A pleasure to make your acquaintance Mr Jackson."
"Likewise, but please, call me Percy."
"As you say Mr Jackson," replied the man with a soft smile. "You have my thanks for saving Amber, I shudder to think what would happen if you hadn't appeared. I must say its quite refreshing seeing someone willing to jump and help a stranger, even when faced against difficult odds."
With a mysterious smile, the demigod said, "Going against all odds its kind of my thing. Either way you are welcome, but I'm sure anyone would do the same. I'm just glad that she is alright now."
"Yes, its fortunate that you arrived when you did. Now, Qrow told me a bit about yourself, but would it be possible to hear it from you? From what he told me you were looking to enrol here for the next academic year."
Percy sat there, debating between telling them his origins or keep up with the story that he told Qrow. Noticing that both men were looking at him expectantly, he came to a decision. Signalling a chair, he asked "May I?". After a quick of course from the headmaster, he adjusted himself in the seat.
Turning to Qrow he said, "What I told you before wasn't the whole truth, in reality it was a small part of it. But as a condition to tell you my story, you both must agree to keep what I will say in this room." Seeing the conflicted look in their faces, he quickly added, "It's nothing illegal or dangerous, its just something that I would rather be known by the smallest group of people possible."
With an interested look on his face, Ozpin nodded slowly, saying, "You have my word that as long as it is nothing dangerous nor illegal whatever you say will not leave this room."
Letting out a breath, Percy started. "I was in a trip to the museum with my school when the math teacher tried to kill me…" And so he told his tale.
Finishing his tale, Percy let out a long breath, carefully watching the faces of the two men, noticing Qrow looking at him as if he had a few screws loose and Ozpin to his surprise with slight fear, which he covered up quickly.
Finding this strange, Percy asked Qrow "Did I say something wrong?"
"No shit kid, what part of what you said did you think we were going to believe? Look, I am really grateful that you saved Amber, but there is no reason for you to be lying to us."
"Qrow!" said Ozpin sharply, "let him talk, I know many liars, but from what I've seen he is not one of them. Now Mr Jackson, this Light god you said brought you here, was what you told us everything he said? Are you being completely honest with us?"
Confused at the sharpness of Ozpin's words, Percy replied "Yes, I swear that everything I told you was the truth, I just came here because there was nowhere else I could go. I don't know what is your beef with this god or anything, but I'm in no way involved in it. I can try to swear in the Styx but I doubt it'd be good for anything in this world."
"Then I will trust you in this Mr Jackson, I hope you don't make me regret it."
"Beef with the gods-Are you seriously going to believe him Oz?" asked Qrow, agitated. "Do you have any proof at all of what you are saying?"
"I mean, the biggest proof I have is that my aura isn't unlocked and that I don't even know if its possible to do so but still have my demigod powers, or you could do a DNA analysis on me if you have the equipment for it," replied Percy. "Look, Qrow, you were there earlier and saw me throwing a literal wave at them. You said it yourself, I have no reason to lie to you."
The demigod watched intently the huntsman face as it went through a range of emotions, before settling on determined and finally asked Ozpin: "So you believe him then?" Seeing the headmaster's solemn nod, he turned to Percy and said, "Fuck, you seem like a good kid, but you have to know where I'm coming from here, telling us tales from another world with literal gods, and no Grimm. Look, I like you so I will give you a chance, just don't make me regret it, too many people have turned on me already."
Offering his hand, Percy promised Qrow "I'm swear everything I said is true, and I have every intention to use this opportunity you are giving me to help carry this world to a new age, where Grimm are a thing of the past. I will do everything within my power to help you."
And he really meant it, Percy decided. In the people of Remnant he saw the face of every demigod he had met, always fighting for their lives against an evil that would never stop coming, and worse than that, the grand majority didn't have the means to even be able to defend themselves like back home. And for those people he would continue to do what he did best, killing monsters and saving as many people as he could.
"Well, now that this is settled, I would like to offer you a place in Beacon Academy, if you are willing to take it," said Ozpin.
"I would be honoured, but now do you have a place where I could stay? Those two hours in the bullhead were the first time in weeks that I slept properly and now I want nothing more than crash in a comfortable bed."
Chuckling, Ozpin directed Percy to a teacher named Glynda Goodwitch who would take him to his dormitory.
When Qrow saw the doors of the elevator closing, he turned to the headmaster and said, "I don't know Oz, do you really believe all that bullshit he was saying? Him being the son of a god, and using his semblance without aura?"
"I admit I had my doubts at the beginning, but from what I could see of him he is either the best liar I have ever seen, or he was being truthful. In any case, we can verify his claims with a spar against you tomorrow."
"But he said that he had no aura, what if I hurt him?"
"Then he proved us that he was telling the truth, and even then I do not believe he will be so easy to injure, if half of what he has told us is true."
"Alright, I'll ask him tomorrow about it." Then, Qrow's face turned serious, and asked Ozpin, "Now what is this he said about beef with the gods? Don't think I couldn't see your face then, you did go rather pale."
Grimacing, the headmaster brought his trusty cup to his mouth and drank a bit of coffee to calm his nerves a bit, then answered "It is nothing to concern yourself with my friend, just some old memories I would rather leave buried."
"You sure its not something I should know? You turned pretty serious there, so it still has you worried." Seeing Ozpin's nod, he relaxed a bit and continued, "Alright, if you say that its nothing I'll believe you, but remember you can trust me."
Smiling, Ozpin conceded "Of course, you have always been a good friend to me, but this is solely related to some affairs of my past, do not concern yourself with this."
"Ok then, I guess I'll get going, if you need anything I'll be at junior's."
The following morning Percy woke up, feeling more refreshed than even the flight on the bullhead, so with a bright smile he got up ang started readying himself for the day.
Noticing his stomach growling, he then decided to hunt for the kitchens or somewhere that he could eat properly for the first time since his fall to the pit.
Walking down a corridor, he found a stocky man with a grey moustache walking towards where he was coming from, and asked "Excuse me sir, do you know where I could get some breakfast?"
"Ah, yes, Mr Jackson! The headmaster told us to keep an eye out for you. No worries, I shall lead you to the cafeteria! Come, come, follow me!"
"So are you a professor here sir?"
"Why, yes! Allow me to introduce myself, my name is Peter Port and hopefully I will be your Grimm Studies professor the next semester."
"Oh, that great! So how long have you been teaching here?"
Percy, then seeing the sudden appearance of an unsettling smile on the professor's face, began feeling a sense of dread. "But what a question my boy! It al started when I was facing a pack of Beowolves with nothing but a fallen branch of a tree."
And so passed the trip to the cafeteria, the professor regaling his prospective student with many a tale of his youth, and almost managing to make the demigod fall asleep standing. When he noticed that they had arrived, Percy started looking around for a familiar face and spotted Qrow, sporting what looked like a nasty hangover. Turning around, he thanked his professor and headed to choose his food, filling his plate to the brim with pancakes.
Seating next to Qrow, he let out a cheery "Good morning!" that had the older man glaring at him. "Had fun last night?"
"Ha ha, yeah laugh it up kid, I had to drink to forget all the shit you pulled on us last night."
Chuckling, Percy replied, "I mean, you asked. So, got any plans for today?"
"Yeah, I was planning to talk to you about it, do you want to spar a bit? We can see ho do you measure to someone with aura and then after I'll unlock it for ya."
"Sure, I'm curious if you huntsmen live up to the hype". Finishing with the last of his pancakes, stood up and asked, "Ready to have a go? I haven't slept like that for a long time so I am at 100%, let me know if you want me to take it easy on you, old man."
"You talk big kid, lets see if you can back it up." Signalling with his head towards the door, he said, "Come on, follow me, Glynda must be there already doing teacher stuff, even though its Summer."
With a laugh, Percy remembered his walk yesterday with the woman, thinking that from what he saw she was the kind of person to do exactly that.
Arriving at the classroom, the demigod asked the older man, "So how are we gonna do this? To first blood? No maiming?"
"What the fuck kid? What did they teach you at that crazy camp of yours? No, we'll do this until you yield."
"You sound confident there old man, what makes you think I'll be the first to yield?"
At that Qrow only laughed and motioned towards the raised platform in the centre. "Come on, stop with the trash talk and get in the ring already."
Taking his position, Percy took out Riptide, at which Qrow laughed. "Didn't take you for the 'Pen is mightier than the sword' kind of guy, now come on, take your weapon."
Smirking, the demigod uncapped Riptide, the gleaming bronze blade appearing in a flash, making the eyes of the other man widen in surprise. "What was it, Qrow? 'The pen is mightier than the sword?'"
Scowling, the huntsman took some kind of construct from his back and extended it, taking the demigod by surprise. A scythe was now resting on Qrow's hand, which almost made him nostalgic. Taking a stand that he only used when fighting against Kronos, Percy said, "So we going to fight or not?"
Taking the initiative, Percy pushed towards him, intercepting the blade on the way. It probably weighed more than backbiter, and surprisingly he was straining to hold it in place.
Sword and scythe clashed, taking turns in testing each other defences, looking for weaknesses they could exploit.
Percy growled, fending off swing after swing from the huntsman, and started gathering the moisture in the air, coating himself in it. Refreshed, he continued his assault, now felling stronger due to being in contact with water.
There! He found a hole in Qrow's defence!
Percy stabbed the spot, and his sword struck a glancing blow. It didn't do anything, and Percy was surprised until he recalled that aura could be used like a forcefield.
That slight moment of surprise left him open enough that Qrow scored a narrow cut was on his left arm. It hurt, but it was nothing serious and was already starting to heal, so he ignored it.
Keeping up his defensive stance, Percy cursed. This guy was crazy fast! Almost Hyperion levels fast, and he had to turn himself into a hurricane to fight him!
Sweat was beginning to bead across his forehead again and he noticed that Qrow was breathing hard. He was far from tiring, thanks to the water surrounding him, but he was getting there.
Another opening! This one he could take advantage of like he did the last time, and careful to keep his defence up he lunged for the opening, and before he could touch Qrow he found himself with a blade resting at his throat and cursed, he made himself look like a fool.
Panting, he let out a soft "yield", aware of the blade still resting on his throat. With a huff, the scythe wielder retracted his weapon, looking at the demigod with some respect in his eyes. "Fuck kid, you weren't kidding about having no aura, that was a nasty cut I gave you there. Anyway, this wasn't the first time you've fought someone with a scythe, is it?"
"My grandfather fought with one, and his had the ability to tear your soul from your body."
Cringing, Qrow replied," Yeah, that's not something I'd like to go against. So now do you want me to try to unlock your aura?"
Excitedly, Percy nodded. "So what do we do?"
"You just have to close your eyes and concentrate, stay there and do it."
Steeling himself, Percy nodded and concentrated, vaguely hearing Qrow reciting, "For it is in passing that we achieve immortality. Through this, we become a paragon of virtue and glory to rise above all. Infinite in distance and unbound by death, I release your soul, and by my shoulder, protect thee."
There was a flash of light and the demigod noticed energy flowing through him, and in that moment he was even more aware of his father's domains, feeling the earth beneath his feet and the clouds above him in the sky, but most surprising were the bodies of water within miles that he could reach. 'Is this what being a god is like? I feel I can do anything!' Hearing a groan, he quickly spotted Qrow passed out on the floor. Panicking, Percy took him to the bleachers and laid him down, sighing in relief when he saw him opening his eyes.
"Damn that took a fucking lot out of me, you have a crazy amount of aura."
Chuckling sheepishly, the demigod said, "Sorry man, didn't know it would do that, do you need me to bring you anything? I feel like I could run to the cafeteria and back in a second."
With a smile, the huntsman sat up and told him, "Yeah, that's what usually happens when someone feels their aura for the first time, its amazing, isn't it?"
Grinning, Percy nodded, and asked Qrow for another spar.
Walking down a street in Vale the demigod ruminated on how he spent the months before the beginning of the school year, honing his combat abilities and making use of the powers granted to him by his father's domains boosted by the unlocking of his aura and making excursions to the forests situated next to the school to test himself against the creatures of the Grimm.
Walking beneath the broken moon and wasn't that a phrase he never thought he would use, Percy reflected on his past life, and not for the first time wondered how everyone was doing back on his earth. At least the pang on his chest when he thought about Annabeth didn't bring as much grief as it used to, but he knew that he still had a long way to go before healing completely.
Hearing a resounding crash, he turned around and saw a man flying through the window of a store, followed by a girl with a red hood, who took out a scythe and proceeded to beat what he assumed were thugs, but he could see reinforcements coming, and decided to join the fray, intent on helping who he was calling mini Qrow.
Uncapping Riptide and turning it into a trident, the demigod batted away one of the men with the suits, sending him flying into some of his 'co-workers'. Striking another thug across the head with the butt end of the trident, Percy turned to mini Qrow and asked, "Hey red, you alright?"
Using the recoil from her scythe, she leaped away from a cleaver coming down towards her head, and shouted excitedly "Yeah, thanks for the help! This guys don't stop coming!"
Chuckling at the large smile on red's face, the demigod dodged another blow and retaliated with a sweep to the legs of his attacker, sending him to the floor where he received a kick to the head that left him unconscious.
For the next minute Percy fought side by side with his new companion, fending thugs from everywhere as they attempted to surround them. Noticing a lull in the fight, he looked around only to find a lot of unconscious bodies all around him, only he and the girl standing.
Turning towards the girl, who was currently looking at his trident with a disturbing amount of interest in her eyes, Percy flashed her a thumbs up and said, "That was some great fighting there red, what's your na-" With a burst of speed, the demigod stood in front of the girl, shielding her from an explosion coming from where the fight started.
Looking down, he saw the girl looking at him wide-eyed, and asked "You okay?" Receiving a nod, he turned around and found a guy with a white suit running to a set of stairs in the side of a building, and with a "Oh no you don't!" Percy started condensing the water from the air around him in the shape of a whip, and sent it towards the cane guy, catching him in the ankle and dragging him to where the demigod found himself.
Creating another three whips, the demigod proceeded to attach them to the remaining three limbs of the thief, immobilizing him in the spot.
Smiling, Percy then looked to the girl, who at this moment took out her scythe and started shooting at something behind him. Percy then felt a wave of heat hitting him in the back, making him stumble. Now pissed, the demigod looked towards whoever attacked him in the back, finding himself facing a bullhead with someone on board who was throwing around fire like she was a daughter of Hephaestus.
With a shout, he then released the man from the water limbs and sent them to douse the fire spouting from the woman, losing most of his reserves to the heat, and the man, who jumped in. He prepared to chase them, but then heard a startled shout coming from behind him. Remembering the girl, Percy turned around and found her dodging shots from the man, who threw a red crystal at them and shoot at it, creating an explosion.
Prepared to create a water shield using the pipes around him, the demigod started flexing his powers when he saw a purple wall of energy before him, protecting them from the explosion.
Hearing someone clearing their throat behind him, he proceeded to turn around only to find an irate Miss Goodwitch, who at the moment was trying to burn a hole in his head with her eyes. Intent on deescalating the situation, Percy gave her his most charming smile and sheepishly said, "I can explain?"
