Whitebeard was still shocked to know Ace was the son of Roger and Rouge, he had heard the rumors Roger had a child, but never knew it was true. Ace might not be a perfect image of his father, but there was a resemblance. Ace must have had a hard life because of who his father was, it seemed like he held some resentment towards him, and he wonders why. But it didn't seem like Ace wanted to talk about him. It might be because of what people said about the man, many resented him and Ace must have caught up on that. He felt bad for the kid. And he hoped the kid would stay with them and his crew would stay. He heard from Thatch that Deuce had offered to help train him, as a shinobi, which was really nice of the man. He was also curious on what Deuce, and the others from Ace's old crew, could do. He had never really met a trained shinobi. Those on his crew had left early on and never knew how to be a shinobi. But he could only hope they would stay.

They were at an island and Deuce was by the shore with Thatch, and Thatch was excited for this. This would be the first training session he would have with Deuce. Deuce looked at him. "I am not the best trainer, so this will be new for both of us. But basically, you focus your chakra to your feet, try and believe in yourself that you can walk on water." Thatch nodded and watched as Deuce walked out on the water and didn't fall in. He was actually walking on top of it. "This is also really useful when someone falls in, as you can just grab them and walk back to the boat." Thatch nodded, that sounded awesome.
Thatch nodded. " You can carry someone as well?" Deuce nodded. "Ace fell in once and I could just walk and get him." Thatch nodded, that sounded really easy and smart. He really hoped he would be able to do this.
They then trained for hours, and Thatch felt he got nowhere, but Deuce said it wouldn't be easy. He was also not young, it was easier when you were young and learned the basics then. Sometimes, Thatch wished his family hadn't run to be nobles, but then again, since had done it, he found Pops and his family, he was really happy here. He was happy he had found Pops, or that Pops had found him. And now, he had the chance to learn to be a shinobi as well. He was happy as a normal pirate, but this would be awesome if he could do this.
After a few hours, Thatch was still not able to walk on water, but he felt he was closer. As they were done, he asked Deuce if he could show some of his powers, and he nodded and did. And with a movement of his hands, there was suddenly… two Deuce's in front of him. Both smiled. "I can make shadow clones." Thatch blinked, same with everyone close. They had never really seen a shinobi's powers. So this was amazing. The second Deuce then disappeared, and Deuce stood alone. "Small things like that." Thatch blinked. "Small things?! That was amazing! Oh my God! That was amazing!" Deuce chuckled. "It probably is since you've never seen it. But this is just the basics. We learn this as children." That was extraordinary. Deuce then showed other small things, which was equally as amazing. But he felt the clone things were most amazing, that and walking on water, like a God. Not that Thatch was a huge believer of Gods, but he believed there was something out there.
He then spoke a bit with Deuce, before they went on with the evening as normal. He was glad Deuce was willing to help him.

Whitebeard sat out on deck, enjoying a calm day. They had set sail again this morning, from the island they had been on, and he was glad to have seen Deuce helping to teach Thatch a few things. When the others had seen it, they had wanted in, all those who were a shinobi. Deuce really was talented, and it was amazing to see the man actually walking on the sea. He had never truly seen it. It was amazing, shinobis were strong and powerful. Many thought a devil fruit was stronger, but in his mind, a shinobi was stronger. They didn't have an outright weakness like sea or seastone, they could walk on water and upside down. And then all the different powers they had, they were powerful and amazing. Whitebeard remembers from when he was small, that he wished he could be a shinobi, but then he had found his devil fruit, and he liked that. He felt powerful, he was known as the world's strongest man after all. But he had a feeling there were more powerful people out in the world, especially the shinobi world, no one really counted them aside from shinobis themselves. Which he felt was wrong. Shinobi or not, everyone was a child of the sea. But he knew many were against that.
Whitebeard was open-minded, at least in his mind he was. He had a huge diversity in his crew, he had normal people, devil fruit users, fishmen, and shinobis. He didn't care about something as trivial as being different. He had felt different growing up, seeing as he was a half giant. He never really truly believed things would work out as it had. He had an amazing family he loved and it was still growing. He hoped Ace could settle their difference and that Ace would become a part of their family. He liked the fiery brat. But he could only hope for the best.

Thatch stood in the kitchen, preparing some light food. As he was, the door opened and Ace came inside, making the chef hum. "Whatcha doing here?" Ace shrugged as he moved to sit on a counter. "Bored. You're one of the awesome people here." Thatch chucked, he was glad the kid thought that. He liked the kid. "Are you done with trying to kill Pops?" Ace hummed. "Maybe. We had a small chat." Thatch nodded. "Pops is a good man and he cares for people he likes." Ace shrugged, not saying anything. He had a feeling Ace didn't have any parental figures in his life, seeing the way he was pushing away from Pops. He really hoped Ace would stay, and the rest of his crew would stay. He really liked Deuce, and he had offered to help train him and teach his shinobi things. Which meant a lot to him. He wanted to learn.
Ace then looked at him. "Do you have any connection to your family? Or did you leave it all behind? Leave all of the shinobi life behind?" Thatch looked around, making sure everyone was out, before he looked at Ace. "A secret, I don't know if you know about it, but the chocolate trial, I took a piece, I took it from my family, to keep them from forcing others to eat it." Thatch really didn't like to tell people, but he liked and trusted Ace. He was nice and Thatch had a feeling Ace wouldn't tell anyone. Ace frowned. "What is that?" Thatch blinked. "None of the others have told you?" Ace shook his head. "Is it a special flavor? Is that it?" Thatch shook his head, not sure what to say. He really didn't like speaking about it, having seen the fate many met. How horrible that was. "It's… it's a way for non shinobi to become a shinobi. I'm not fond of talking about it." Ace nodded. "Oh.. okay. Didn't know that existed. If you don't want to talk about it, we won't." Of course Ace didn't, he was young. And he was glad he understood this.
Ace then stayed with him during the time he was in the kitchen, before both of them left when the others came and took over. He really liked Ace, he would be a perfect addition to their family, or so he believed. He knew others were with him, especially Pops. But, he could only hope Ace would join them.

Ace looked at his old crew. "They have it, or the chef. You were right, Mika. He has the chocolate." Mika nodded. "I was sure of it. We just need to do this right. You know where he has it?" Ace shook his head. "No, but I am guessing it is hidden. We need to be careful, I will try and ask more." Trevor nodded, a hand to his lip. "Be careful asking, he can't know we are up to something." Ace nodded. "I know. I will try my best. This is our chance." The others nodded. "It is," Started Deuce. "We need to be prepared, I have a feeling it will happen soon." Ace nodded. "I know, but hopefully we have more time on us." The others nodded and Ace hoped nothing would happen, but was sure that wouldn't be. They had limited time on their hands.
