Hi everybody! Thank you so much for the follows and reviews. I'm happy people are liking this story, and I hope I don't disappoint. I would like to make one reference of note before reading this chapter. Juvia's memories are lost, but I still imagine her personality and quirks are the same (i.e., Falling in love quickly, saying things out loud, being emotional etc.) just in case there is any confusion with the character development! Also I obviously do not own the rights to Fairy Tail or any of it's characters, see you next time!
Chapter 3: Reunited
Juvia's heart was beating so fast that she swore anyone near her could hear it and she wasn't sure why. Maybe she was just overwhelmed with everything that happened that day. She never expected to find anyone that knew about her on her first day, but she was filled with so much joy and sadness at the same time. She found her family, her friends, and yet she didn't recognize anything. Or maybe her heart was beating fast due to the handsome ice wizard walking beside her. Gray-san I believe is what they called him, and all those events that happened in her life with him before she "died"? Juvia and him must have been very close for Juvia to feel this way about his presence, should she ask? What if Juvia asks though and she's completely wrong and somehow scares him away? She decided for now she would wait, maybe he would say something before she did. They continued walking in silence, Juvia keeping her head down, sneaking a few glances of Gray along the way. He seemed lost in his own thoughts, having a very determined and concentrated look on his face. His eyes were a very dark blue, almost resembling a winter sky, and there was a storm approaching.
"Well, this is Fairy Hills." Gray stopped in front of a cute little building on the outskirts of the town, it seemed charming to Juvia, but not at all familiar. She followed Gray inside and up the stairs to a door which he said led into her room. Juvia approached the door and walked inside. The room was quaint and simple, it looked as though nothing had been touched since she left, she felt a very tiny feeling of maybe remembering, so she decided to look around more. The one thing that stood out to her were the many plushie dolls of Gray-San?! There were so many located throughout the place she lost count.
"Gray-San? Why does Juvia own all these plushies that look like you?" Gray turned beet red. "I don't know you made them!" he turned away from her to hide his face from embarrassment.
"So Juvia and Gray-San were close then?" Juvia asked. Gray took a deep breath and faced her again.
"Yes." Juvia picked up one of the dolls, tracing her hands along the stitching.
"How close?" Gray went back to red; this was going to bed difficult to explain to her.
"It's kind of hard to say Juvia, without making you feel weird." Gray rubbed the back of his head with his hand. How could he tell her she was crazily in love with him, if she didn't remember him?
"Juvia wants Gray-san to tell her anyway. Maybe it will help Juvia remember." She pleaded. Gray took a seat on the edge of her bed and Juvia did the same, with the Gray doll still in her hands.
"Well, we met a few years ago, when you used to be a member of the Element Four, a dark guild. Gajeel was your guild mate then too…." And so, he went on, to the best of his ability to tell their story. The many adventures they took, the teamwork they showed, the memories, good and bad that they shared. It felt like hours had gone by, but Juvia was no longer tired, instead she was wide awake, taking in every detail Gray gave her. Once he got to their last moments together before she died, his demeanor changed.
"I begged you to wake up, I didn't want to lose another person who was important in my life. I regretted never having told you exactly how I felt before then, and I thought it was too late. I screamed for who knows how long, wanting you to come back, holding you close and wanting to see your eyes or hear you say "Gray-Sama" again." Gray was facing the ground, his dark hair hiding his eyes from Juvia.
Juvia stared at the doll in her hands, she could feel the heat rising within her, and she clutched the small thing so tightly her knuckles turned white, and her hands began to shake. She bolted upward in a fit of anger and through the doll to the floor, falling to her knees after.
"Juvia!" Gray had swiftly moved to her side; concern filled his voice.
"It was too much, I'm sorry, I didn't mean to push you." Gray apologized.
"Juvia... Juvia is angry. She has all these memories with you, all these feelings, but she can't remember any of it! Juvia loved you, and she can't remember!" Juvia was crying and shaking beyond belief when she felt two strong arms pull her close. Her face landed right into Gray's chest, which for an Ice wizard, was surprisingly warm. This warmth, it was the same one she would feel in her dreams, it was Gray's warmth.
"It's alright Juuves, I promise, we will get them back, so please don't cry anymore." He cradled her into him, placing his hand to the back of her head, intertwining his fingers into her hair.
"Gray-Sama loves Juvia?" Gray looked down with shock and awe. Even if she didn't remember, he could keep his promise for the time being.
"Yes, I love you Juvia, and I know it doesn't mean much right now, but I'm sorry it took so long to say it." Juvia smiled at him.
"Juvia, feels in her heart that she loves Gray-Sama back, even if she forgot, and she will try her absolute hardest to show Gray that she means it." Gray squeezed her tightly and Juvia returned it.
They both cried in silence, making their own private vows under the moonlit sky. Gray vowed he would never let anything happen to Juvia again, and that no matter what happened from this point forward he would still love her. Memories or no memories, she was still Juvia, his Juvia, and that's all he cared about. Juvia vowed that no matter how long it took her, she would do whatever it takes to get her memory back, so she could remember all the precious moments with her friends and Gray-Sama. She wanted this, and she was confident that with hard work and teamwork she could do it. Juvia was so emotionally drained that she ended up passing out asleep in his arms without even realizing it. Gray picked her up bridal style and put her into bed, he smiled at how peaceful she looked. He didn't want to leave her, and hell at any other time he would have stripped and hopped right into bed, but he knew this was different. So, he kept his clothes on, grabbed a pillow from the window seat and took a spot on the floor where he could keep an eye on Juvia.
All of Magnolia felt at peace for the first time in a long time. If only they knew about the unfortunate events that were about to unfold.
