Chapter 3 - "The Secret That I've Kept"
Mirajane smiled and waved, "It's been a while, Lucy Heartfilia."
"M-Mirajane?" Lucy was shocked. Laxus glanced at her, "I guess . . . I will leave you two here for a talk." He left this room. Lucy's legs were shaking. Mirajane walked slowly towards her, "I don't know you work under Laxus. Let me tell you one thing." She grabbed Lucy's chin, "Do. Not. Seduce. My. Crush." She pushed her chin and walked past her. Her legs were still shaking and fell down on the floor. 'W-why is she here? Is she going to ruin my life? Will she tell him about my secret?' she was afraid. As Laxus entered this room, and looked down at her. He crouched down and ruffled her hair. She looked up and saw his smile, "I-I am so sorry." She stood up quickly.
"You don't have to apologize. I knew something fishy was going on with you and Mirajane," he scratched his sideburn. After a few seconds of silence, Lucy shivered, "Y-you overheard our conversation?"
"Relax, blondie," Laxus reached his two hands on her shoulders, "I heard she said 'Do not seduce my crush'. I do agree with her, don't seduce me." He smirked and let go of his hands.
"I don't flirt with any guys. I only focus on my job and my family," she blushed a little and bowed 90° angle, "Let me go and do my paperwork." She walked hurriedly. He chuckled and went back to work.
.
.
Finally her time at work was over, and it was time for her to go home. 'My first day of job is not bad. I hope tomorrow will be fun,' Lucy giggled. She got up from the seat and cleaned some things on her desk. She sang a random song.
"Oi, Blondie. Stop singing. It sounds so bad," Laxus rubbed his one finger in his left ear when he opened the door. However, she couldn't hear and continued to sing. She walked to the emergency stairs. He stopped her by a hand on her right shoulder, "Where are you doing? We should go in the elevator. It's faster than this."
"Oh, well . . . I have a reason that I can't go in there," she said, "You can go without me. See you tomorrow." She waved and went downstairs. Laxus looked puzzled and then shrugged.
.
.
At Lucy's small dull home, she lived with her mother, not her father.
"Hi mom! I am home!" Lucy opened the door. Her mother turned to see her, "Hello my dear daughter. The dinner will be ready soon. Go change your clothes." She nodded and went upstairs to change her clothes.
"How's your job? Is your boss kind to you?" Layla asked. Lucy smiled and laid down on her mother's lap, "It's my first day today and it's fine. I met my friend. Do you remember Levy? She knows my secret. Just her and Mr. Makarov Dreyar. And . . . and that person . . ." Lucy frowned and hesitated, "That person knows it too . . . It's Mirajane who caused me to become deaf." Her mother was shocked to hear it, and then felt boiling by the name 'Mirajane'.
"Ok, I will call Makarov to know-" Her mother picked her cell phone to call, however Lucy grabbed her hand, "Don't worry. I will handle her myself." Layla sighed worriedly.
.
.
The next day, Lucy went to work on her second day. She ran hurriedly until she bumped into someone. She fell down and looked up at . . . Laxus.
"Blondie, I notice you always are clumsy. What's wrong with you?" He reached his hand towards her. Lucy grabbed his hand to stand up, "I-I am sorry. I will be careful next time." He pulled her closer, "If you don't be careful, something might happen to you." Lucy nodded. He noticed her looking at his lips, "Why are you looking at my lips? Wait . . . You want to kiss me or what?" Lucy blushed and stepped back little, "I-I-I AM NOT!" Her yelling got people's attention on her. Laxus looked at people around and then looked at her, "Seriously, you got people's attention." He grabbed her hand and dragged her with him to the elevator.
"Mr. Dreyar, I can't go in," Lucy feared. Laxus rolled his eyes and pushed her back to move in the elevator.
"We should go to my office. My gramps and I talked about something last night. I will tell you about this in our office," he pressed the 14th floor button to go up. (This building has 15 floors) The door was closed. Lucy started to panic, "I . . . I need . . . to get fresh air." Laxus glanced at her, "What did you say again?" Lucy couldn't breathe, "L-Laxus . . . I don't think . . ." He grabbed one of his hands on her shoulder, "Oi blondie, pull yourself together!" Until the door finally opened, she glanced at it. She pushed him and ran off to the emergency stairs. Laxus confused and followed her. He saw her breathing slowly, "Is it claustrophobic?" He touched slightly her back, and she was startled to see him, "M-Mr. Dreyar, I-I am sorry. I will go to the office soon. You can go without me."
"You can come with me. I will help you," Laxus convinced.
"It's fine. You can go without me."
"Listen to me! I am your boss. I insist you come with me," he grabbed her hand and dragged her with him. They went to his office. However they met Mirajane waiting at his office.
"What's up, Mirajane?" Laxus asked.
"I want to talk to you in private."
Laxus glanced at her, her face was scared that Mirajane might tell him about her secret.
"No, I want to talk with my secretary in private first," Laxus glared at Mirajane. She sighed in disappointment and left in this room. They sat on the couch, "So tell me what's going on. Are you claustrophobic?" he asked.
"Well, it's none of your business. It's my personal life," she bowed slightly.
"You can't keep your secret forever."
"What?"
"It's because I can find out more about you." Laxus patted her head, "So I can fire you anytime. I hate a secretary who is claustrophobic."
