hi guys, sorry for such a late update. i am so busy with exams and got into a writer's slump.
maybe this 5k chapter makes up for it! this is the final chapter in this story, but if y'all want i might write a sequel.
hope you enjoy!
Scout has no idea what's coming for him, Amelia thought, staring at her son as he scooped mashed banana into his mouth. It was barely seven in the morning, and only Amelia and her son were awake. Link had been up late into the night with Scout, letting Amelia sleep because she needed the rest. Being nine months pregnant took a lot out on a person, and this was the second time Amelia had made it month nine. She wasn't taking a single thing for granted, but it would be nice to get one night of restful sleep.
The baby in question, who was nearly eighteen months, babbled to himself as he played with the toys on his high chair. He had grown up so much over the past few months, almost too much for Amelia's heart to bear. Her baby was no longer a baby; his tiny self was being replaced by an even tinier self that was due in no time.
At least this time Amelia wasn't on her feet working until the last possible moment like she was nine months pregnant with Scout. Link had nearly had a heart attack at that point, but still tolerated her independence. Amelia was a free spirit and she appreciated the fact that her boyfriend didn't try to hold her back. More often than not, he grabbed her hand and ran with her to whatever land she wanted to go to. As long as they were together, nowhere was too far. Sure, having almost 2 kids Earthside made things challenging but that didn't mean their kids couldn't have fun. Their kids would get to experience life and follow their dreams. Nothing was too crazy for the Lincoln family. Crazy was almost preferred.
It was yet to be discovered whether Scout would be the big brother to a boy or girl. Amelia had told Link early on she did not want to find out the sex because it didn't matter to her in the least. Link agreed and told her that all he wanted was for her and their new baby to be healthy. Whatever was between their legs had no opinion in the matter. That being said, Amelia and Link had discussed names and had settled on two, one if it was a boy and one if it was a girl. Middle names were trickier, but they had a pretty good idea of what they would use. Like with Scout's middle names, they wanted to use names of those who meant something to Amelia or Link.
An alarm on her phone told Amelia that she needed to get a move on, or she risked being late at the hospital. Her good friend and former sister-in-law, Addison Montgomery was giving a virtual lecture and Amelia couldn't pass up the opportunity to see her live. It was due to start in forty-five minutes, leaving Amelia just enough time to put Scout back down to bed and get ready before she needed to head off.
She did just that, kissing her son on the head and blowing Link one of his own, as she left. Amelia was out of breath by the time she made it back downstairs, clearly being nine months pregnant winded a person. Although Amelia had been through this route before, so she knew the drill. All it took was a few deep breaths and a power walk into the building when she got to Grey Sloan. The drive was quiet for a commuter morning, which Amelia was thankful for. Even the hospital parking lot was empty. Maybe today was going to be a chill day.
Although all of that changed the second Amelia stepped into the staff room. Sitting at the table, sipping a cup of her famous juju, was Addison Montgomery herself. "Addison?" The shock in Amelia's voice was unavoidable.
"Amelia!" Addison shot up and out of her seat, and leaned in to give the other woman a hug. She only made it about halfway, before Amelia's baby bump stopped her. "Well I'd say you look well, but you look absolutely glowing! It's been ages since I saw you, what with the global pandemic. And while I know you got pregnant last year with Scout, I did not expect to see you pregnant again so soon."
"Neither did we," Amelia said with a laugh. It was so nice to see the familiar face in person, which reminded her- "Wait, what are you doing at Grey Sloan? I thought the lecture was virtual?"
Addison leaned back against the table. "It was, but since I got the vaccine a while ago I decided, why not make the trip down here? I wanted to pay my favourite ex sister-in-law a visit."
"Well I'm so glad you're here." Amelia smiled and shoved her bag into an empty cubby, before pocketing her phone. "Yes I am pregnant, with baby number two. Link's the father, don't worry."
"I wasn't. You two must be very serious, then?" Addison raised an eyebrow at Amelia.
Amelia squirmed. "We are, because we love each other and we raise Scout together. We're not married, if that's what you're asking."
"Ah, I see," Addison said. "You know what, sometimes marriage doesn't have to happen right away. It's smart to wait, to see if you really love the person you're with."
"I mean, I do love him though. And I want to marry him, just not yet." The excuse sounded lame even to Amelia's own ears. Addison didn't say anything, but Amelia could tell she was being judged, just a bit. It wasn't her fault necessarily. Amelia knew she was a lot and didn't know if she wanted to tie yet another man to her. If they were just dating while raising two kids, that was one thing. But marriage was so much harder, especially if things didn't work out long term.
Although those weren't thoughts Amelia had often. She loved Link for who he was, and not just the aerobic sex they had. However, that was a plus. Right now was also not the time to think about things, because Addison had a lecture to give. Amelia chatted with her as they walked towards the conference room. Despite Addison being here in person, everyone else was still at home or watching the call from a remote location. COVID-19 hadn't completely left, so unnecessary gatherings were told to go virtual.
The conference room was all set up and ready to go, as Addison had apparently set up over an hour ago. Amelia stood behind the computer and looked out the window. Addison greeted her viewers, introduced herself and started talking about her neonatal practice.
Near the window, Amelia watched Addison and gave her encouraging nods every now and then. Not like the Addison Montgomery needed encouragement though. She was perfectly capable of doing everything on her own. Just as Amelia Shepherd had learned to be, after no one showed up for her wedding to Owen, and her favourite sibling, her older brother, hadn't even been alive to help her through her tumour. Luckily, she had Link. He was her happy-go-lucky who had trauma to get through of his own. With his glass-half-full attitude, sometimes Amelia wondered how they got along so well, because she certainly was not always so positive. When it came down to it, they were simply just right for each other, though. They loved each other a crazy amount and had made two beautiful kids together. That was what mattered in the end.
The lecture lasted quite a long time, finally breaking just after one p-m. Amelia hadn't stayed for the entire time, and instead filed through some paperwork that needed to be done before her maternity leave. Baby Lincoln #2 was due sometime in the next couple weeks, and although Amelia was very excited, she had a few last minute things to finish up.
Addison found Amelia in the lab tech office with a hand on her stomach and her eyes closed. "Hey Amelia, are you okay?"
Amelia's eyes shot open, and she nodded. "I'm fine, just a bit tired. I'm not normally up and about so early. These past couple days I've been pretty exhausted, so it's just been dumb TV shows while lying on the couch with Link and Scout." The shows really had been dumb, but Amelia hadn't really been awake enough to concentrate.
"Want to grab some lunch? At least eat something, then you can go home. I'm staying in town a couple days, so if you wanted to go, we could definitely talk on a different day," Addison suggested.
"Sure. I could definitely do lunch first. Haven't really eaten much, which I know isn't great with me being pregnant and all." Amelia pushed herself up and out of the chair, using the table for support. But she almost fell back down again, as she felt a contraction wash over her body.
"Amelia!" Addison ran over to help support the younger woman. "What's wrong, you look like you're in pain."
"I think I just had a contraction," Amelia said, staring up at Addison with big, scared eyes.
"It might just be Braxton Hicks. You mentioned you had those last time, with Scout," Addison said reassuringly.
"Nope, I think that was an actual contraction." Amelia put a hand on her lower back, grimacing, "Yep, that was real."
"Who's the OBGYN?"
Amelia took a deep breath, but managed to answer Addison. "Carina DeLuca."
Without a second thought, Addison stuck her head out of the office, and found the nearest nurse. "Someone page Carina DeLuca for me, ASAP."
"She's not here," the nurse replied. "She's with her girlfriend away for the weekend. I can page the on-call doctor if you want?"
"No!" Amelia's terrified gaze matched the panic in her tone.
"No thank you," Addison translated, calmly. "Can you get a wheelchair or a gurney in here? Then please get a room ready and an ultrasound machine situated."
The nurse followed Addison's instructions, leaving to grab a wheelchair immediately. Addison placed a hand overtop of Amelia's on her stomach. "It's going to be okay," she said. "Do you want me to call Link?"
"Yes please." Amelia was focusing on her breathing, her lungs working overtime as she attempted to slow her heart rate down. She handed Addison her cell, and Addison turned it on and started dialling.
She was met with a very handsome voice, but via voicemail. "Darn," Addison said.
Two eyes looked up at her. "What?"
"Voicemail. I'll keep trying." Soon, a wheelchair was brought over and the nurse helped Amelia into it. Addison kept dialing Amelia's boyfriend on their way to the other room, but she was met with voicemail every time. Frustrated, Addison pulled out her own phone and copied the number into her dial pad, before hitting "call". He has to hear some of these, right? She thought. After the fifteenth call, Addison gave up. Maybe Link had left his phone downstairs and was putting Scout down for a nap. She moved to help Amelia, who had managed to calm down a bit in between contractions. "Hey, it's going to be okay," Addison repeated again.
"I know. It's just, Link wasn't here last time and I really wanted him to be here. I can't believe this might be the third time I have no one."
"You have me." Addison wrapped her hands around one of Amelia's. "You will always have me."
"Thank you Addison." Amelia sighed and gritted her teeth as another contraction washed over her. Addison took the opportunity to grab the ultrasound machine and spread some cold gel on Amelia's stomach, before taking a look at the baby.
What she saw was not ideal. The baby was not head down, but instead it was breech. "Amelia, your baby is upside down."
"They can't be." Panic flared up in Amelia's gaze once more. "I have to have it vaginally, there's no other way."
Addison sighed. "I will do everything I can to turn the baby, but if they're stubborn like you are and won't turn, we have to think about a c-section."
"No way." Amelia shook her head vigorously. "There's drugs in an epidural. That's why I didn't have one with Scout, and you couldn't give me one with Christopher. I cannot take the risk, you know that."
"If it comes down to it, you will have to take that risk. But let me see what I can do."
"Please," Amelia all but begged Addison.
It took nearly an hour and a half, but there was no luck in turning the baby. Addison did everything she could, and still, the baby's head was in the wrong position to deliver vaginally. "You're at eight centimeters already, and it's really time we started to think about a c-section."
"Can you do one without an epidural?" Amelia's forehead was bathed in sweat, as she pushed herself up on her elbows to look at Addison. She already knew the answer but needed to hear it again.
"No." Addison's answer was short, yet she understood Amelia's dire concerns.
"Try one more time to turn the baby." Amelia said.
Addison nodded reluctantly. "Okay. But if it doesn't work, I'm taking you in for surgery."
Just then, there was a knock on the door and a familiar face poked their head in. "Hey Dr. Shepherd! I heard you were here, how are things going?" Helm's familiar smile was the light in the darkness that Amelia was shaded in.
It was Addison who replied. "Not great." She stood up and handed over her cell phone and Amelia's. "Dr. Link is not yet here, can you please continue to try his number from either phone?"
Helm agreed without hesitation. "Of course. You got this, Dr. Shepherd."
All Amelia could offer was a grunt, but she appreciated the fact that someone she knew was nearby. Addison turned her attention back to Amelia, and tried again to turn the baby. When at last the ultrasound machine shut off, and Addison looked Amelia directly in the eyes. "I need to perform surgery and Amelia, we have to give you an epidural. There's absolutely no way we can do it otherwise." Addison looked at Amelia, and could see the fear clouding her gaze. "I promise you I'm doing what's best for you and your child."
Tears stained Amelia's cheeks, even though she hated crying in front of others. She just wanted to be at home watching a stupid stupid TV show with Link or rocking Scout to sleep. Not in a hospital bed, alone and wondering where the hell was her boyfriend. "I can't get addicted to drugs, Addison. I can't. I promised. Him, I promised." It was unspoken but both women knew that him was Link.
Amelia had promised him that she wouldn't get high. After everything they had been through and seen and dealt with, all the things they couldn't control, this was something she wanted to stay true to him on. She didn't have an epidural with Scout because she feared it would lead to addiction to other painkillers. Regional anaesthesia still released dopamine into the neuro stems that would trigger a pain relief. Something Amelia definitely needed right now, what with a c-section being in store, but she didn't want to risk becoming addicted to drugs again. Funny, when Addison had been there the first time for her, Amelia vaguely remembered begging for drugs. Now, here she was, trying to do anything she could to avoid drugs. Times change, and clearly fate needed to as well. Addison was not allowing Amelia to lose another one of her babies.
Laying her head back on the pillow, Amelia stared at the ceiling. In a very small voice, she whispered, "Please just get Link. On the phone, here in person, it doesn't matter. I just need to talk to him."
"Okay." Addison nodded. "But if he can't be reached within ten minutes, I'm going to have to operate. Your baby's life will be in danger if we don't. Yours and the baby's." Amelia didn't say anything, but prayed to whoever was watching over her, Derek, her father, Christopher and Ryan even, to please keep her baby alive. Please.
Across Seattle, Link was sitting at the table with Scout on his lap, reading a book to his son. The pair had occupied themselves most of the day, playing games, eating a lot of food as Lincoln men did, and sleeping of course. Amelia had left practically at the crack of dawn to oversee a lecture at Grey Sloan, one that the famous Addison Montgomery was apparently giving via video call. He worried a bit, letting Amelia go while nine months pregnant, but didn't think much of it. The woman he loved was strong and independent; qualities that made him love her more and more each day. Link smiled as he bounced Scout on his knee, making the baby giggle. Within the next couple weeks, he would be a big brother and Link and Amelia would be parents to two under two. The thought absolutely blew his mind. Just a little over two years ago, Link was still chasing after the wrong girl. While Meredith Grey was lovely, and a great friend to him, Link certainly was glad the stars aligned and he found Amelia. Fell in love with her, was more like it. Atticus Lincoln had fallen head-over-heels in love for the woman he shared his bed with every night, but still couldn't call his wife. He didn't blame Amelia for being scared of commitment and marriage and thinking she wouldn't make a good wife. He's scared out of his mind too.
But Amelia had proven she could commit. She committed to Link the day she said that she wanted to meet their kid. The baby they made by accident but loved on purpose. The second baby they didn't plan for, but were over the moon excited about meeting. Amelia told Link she loved him and had even whispered to him one day that she wanted him to be her forever. Granted, when she said those words she thought he was asleep but alas he was not. Things had definitely changed in the last few weeks in their relationship. Nothing bad, but Link was starting to wonder if Amelia was changing her mind about marriage. Link had changed his mind ages ago, hell he was ready to marry Amelia when he had proposed over a year ago. Twice in the same two hours, almost. After he and Amelia had talked and decided to wait, he calmed down and realized that marriage shouldn't be the answer to everything, especially when his parents had screwed up so badly the first time around when it came to love.
Though Link knew Amelia was going to be his forever. Marrying her was the answer because every dream he had about his future started and ended with Amelia Shepherd. He didn't care where he was or what his job was. All he wanted was Amelia and their kids in his arms. That was home to him. That was forever.
The clock on the stove beeped, causing Link to twist in his seat and notice that it was nearly five p-m. The video call should've ended by now, and even if Amelia had stayed later to talk to Addison, she would've texted first. Link stood up with Scout in his arms, patting his pockets for his phone. All he dug up was a spare pacifier and half a granola bar in a wrapper that was probably a snack from before. Tightening his grip on Scout, Link frantically searched the living room and kitchen for his phone. He prayed that Amelia hadn't been trying to reach him this whole afternoon and wondered where the heck his phone had disappeared to.
It took him nearly five minutes, but he finally found it shoved between the crack of the couch cushions, where it had wedged itself sometime during his TV binge. He opened it to find twenty-one missed calls, and multiple texts from Amelia, plus other numbers he didn't recognize. Link swore silently to himself, as he speed dialed Amelia's number. She picked up on the first ring, and started speaking immediately.
"Where are you?" She asked, her voice frantic and hoarse, as though she had been crying.
"I'm at home with Scout, right where you left us over ten hours ago. Where are you?" Link couldn't hide the panic in his voice, as the worst case scenarios flash through his mind.
There was a muffled sound, then Link heard another voice over the line. "Hello, this Addison Montgomery. I am a neonatal surgeon and an OBGYN. You must be the father of Amelia's baby."
Link's heart stopped. "I am, is there a problem?"
"Your unborn child is breech and in distress. There is absolutely no way we can deliver this baby vaginally, so we have to operate via c-section. I have been trying to tell Amelia that she must have an epidural, but apparently being her ex sister-in-law is not convincing enough when it comes to being talked into taking drugs."
"Also I've been trying to reach you for the past three hours and you haven't picked up!" Amelia's panicked tone surfaced through the call again. Link smacked himself internally for not thinking of checking his phone earlier. He'd put it on silent when Scout was napping on his chest, so that it wouldn't wake the baby. Famous last words, Link thought to himself.
"Amelia, I'm coming to the hospital right now, do you hear me? I have to bring Scout, but we'll be there as soon as possible. I promise. Give me a minute," he said, putting his phone on speaker on the kitchen island, while he scrambled to pack a bag for Scout. Anything in sight goes in the bag, Link decided. He swept the table and then grabbed his son and ran for the car. He quickly doubled back for his phone, which he almost neglected again. After buckling Scout in and tossing his phone into the cup holder, he said, "Okay, talk to me."
"We need to operate, like immediately. If we don't-"
"It risks Amelia and the baby, I got it." Link sighed and rubbed his face as he sped towards the hospital. "Amelia, why won't you just get the epidural. I know you didn't want it with Scout, but that was when you had a choice. You really don't now."
Through her tears, Amelia breathed in deeply, before replying. Addison had the decency to leave the room, but mouthed that Amelia had five minutes or else. "You told me to promise you that I wouldn't get high. I made that promise when thinking about getting high. Link, I'm over five years sober. I've had to work so hard for that and I can't be near drugs. I can't take them because they release dopamine into my brain and I can't, I can't, I can't!"
"Take a deep breath," Link ordered. He needed to say something, anything, to make Amelia sure that no matter what happened, she was his future. Wanting to do drugs or not, he would do whatever he needed to keep her sober and in his arms instead of in rehab. "Amelia, it's okay. I know you promised me you wouldn't get high and I love you for that. Most drug addicts do drugs, remember that? You don't. You're cooler than that. Hell, you're a freaking superhero because you are about to have our second child. Scout's little brother or sister. Our son or daughter." Link took a deep breath, relieved that Amelia seemed to be quiet on the other end of the line.
"I love you, Amelia Frances Shepherd. And I know that we said we'd wait until we're both ready for marriage but I want you. I want you so bad. I want to call you my wife and I want to watch you walk down that aisle with a skip in your step and our kids by your side. You say you're bad at marriage because it scares you. Well it scares me too. But you were the one who taught me that scary things aren't really that scary in the end. We've managed to create a beautiful life for Scout and are about to do the same for this baby. You make me want to sing and dance and play the guitar on the rooftop, shouting to the world how much I love you. Because I do. I love you. And my love will never change, not even if you find yourself craving drugs more than ever after this epidural. Me and the kids, we'll drive you to whatever meeting you need to go to. We'll be there for you every step of the way, because that's what love is. It's what makes me wish I was there with you right now, saying all of these cheesy things in person. I want to watch the corner of your lips turn up, and your eyes light up despite the fact that I suspect there's tears in them right now. I want to kiss you and tell you that you're going to be okay. And I want to get down on one knee and give you the ring that I've been hiding in my briefcase for the past year."
There, he said it. He said the words that he had bottled up inside of him for the last few months. He told her his secret, the one thing he hadn't told her during their confession-sessions, late at night once all the kids were asleep. Link didn't know what Amelia's reaction was, but he hoped it would be a happy one.
"Dammit Link." Amelia let out a short laugh, and Link let out a sigh. There was a trace of humour in her tone which was all Link needed for reassurance that things were going to be okay. "So you're saying you want to marry me, even if I become more prone to taking drugs after this epidural."
"I'm saying I want to marry you even if the kids and I have to visit you in rehab every week. Preferably not that, but we will if it comes down to it." He laughed out loud too. "So what do you say?"
There was a pause, then Amelia spoke, unsure but more confident than before. "I say, let's get this epidural and meet our baby."
"Atta-girl," Link checked on Scout in his rearview mirror and smiled. "You're gonna be a big brother before you know it," he said to the little boy.
Muffled voices passed through the phone, then Addison returned. "You want to stay on call while we operate?" She asked.
"Gladly." Link turned off the highway, nearly at the hospital. He spoke into the phone while Amelia had her epidural placed, trying not to cringe at the pained noise she mad. It hurt his heart to hear her in pain and he wished he was there with her right now. He was so close.
A spot opened up near the entrance to the hospital. Link grabbed the baby, the bag he packed and his phone, doing his best to run safely with Scout in his arms. "Amelia, I'm almost there."
"Okay," her voice sounded small. "We're in surgery now, so I'm not sure if you can come in."
"He can come in," Addison said. "I'll send someone out to get him."
"I have Scout," Link reminded them.
"I'll watch him!" Helm's voice came through the line. "I'll wait outside the OR to collect him for you."
"Thanks," Link's reply was breathless as he took the stairs in an effort to reach Amelia faster. He skidded to a stop just outside the OR and sighed, before kissing his son on the head. Helm did good on her promise, and was waiting with open arms, which Link deposited his song into. "Here's the bag of stuff, I have to get to Amelia."
When Link walked into the operating room, Amelia was the only person he had eyes for. He took the mask one of the nurses was offering him, and slipped on the gown as well. Amelia's head turned and the second she took sight of the man walking towards her, a tear slid down her cheek.
"You made it," she said, staring up at him with those perfect blue-green eyes of hers.
"Of course I did." Link smiled and pressed a kiss to her forehead. "I love you."
"I love you too." Amelia was quiet for a moment. "Did you really mean everything you said on the phone? You weren't just saying it to calm me down?"
Link shook his head. "No, I meant every word. I want to marry you, Amelia. I want to call you my wife. I will wait as long as you need me to, because you are all I want."
Amelia didn't reply, but there really was no need to. She hadn't felt happier, except maybe when she watched Link meet their son for the first time. She really did love Atticus Lincoln with all she had. She wondered if her life would've been half as good if she hadn't taken a chance on a certain new type of "pain management". Probably not, Amelia deduced.
Before anyone could say anything else, a cry filled the room. Link looked down at Amelia, and then they both looked up as Addison held a baby up over the edge of the curtain, for them to see. "It's a girl," she said.
"A girl," Amelia echoed, staring at the baby in wonder. Link blinked back happy tears as he watched their daughter be put to the side for examination. "Guess that settles our name decision."
"Guess it does." Link laughed and gripped Amelia's hand tighter. It wasn't too long before their new daughter was brought over wrapped in a blanket, with a small hat on her head.
Link held her, while Amelia reached out a finger to stroke her tiny features. "She's way smaller than her brother," Amelia commented.
"But she'll be just as feisty," Link added. "I already notice she's got your cheeks. And that might be light hair poking out from her hat." The two marvelled over their baby girl, staring at her sweet face. It was love at first sight yet again, just like it had been with Scout.
Addison didn't say anything, but smiled to herself. This was Amelia's happy ending. If Derek had been alive, he would be smiling too, watching little "Amy" fall in love for good this time. The former sister-in-law stepped back from the table, and came around to talk to Amelia. "You're going to be sore for a couple days, because of the stitches. But you'll be able to go home tomorrow, if everything looks good."
"Thank you, Addison." Amelia looked away from her daughter for a moment. "Thank you for everything. And I'm sorry for crying convulsively at you."
"You did that to her too?" Link asked, with a laugh. "She did that to me, that's actually how we became acquainted."
"Very funny." Amelia punched Link lightly in the arm, before grimacing. "Nope, can't do that."
"Take it easy, you two." Addison turned to go, but not before Amelia called her back. Amelia glanced at Link, who nodded encouragingly back.
Clearing her throat, Amelia said, "We want to tell you her name because we think you'd like to hear it."
"Of course," smiling under her mask, Addison waited to hear what they'd decided to call their newborn daughter.
Link spoke first. "Well to fit the theme with Atticus and Scout, her first name is Jemma. Jem for short, because we couldn't resist."
"It was going to be Jeremiah, if she had been a boy," Amelia said. "As for her middle names, just like Scout she has two. One is Charlotte. But the other, is Addison."
"Making her full name, Jemma Addison Charlotte Lincoln. A bit of a mouthful, and it's going to be hell to write on paperwork. But we wanted to recognize important people, and to me, you are one." Tears shone in Amelia's eyes, and Addison's.
"I love it," Addison said, choking back a sob. "I absolutely love it. I hope you'll let me come visit Miss Jemma in the future."
"Always." Amelia confirmed. There was a quiet moment, then the nurses made it clear that they should move the recovery room.
It took only a few minutes, then the three of them were all settled. Amelia's eyelids kept drooping, which prompted Link to tell Amelia to rest. Yet she didn't want to sleep. All she wanted was her family of four to be together. So Link had Helm bring the bag and Scout into the room. Scout sat In Link's lap as Amelia showed him his baby sister.
Suddenly, Scout looked huge compared to the newborn in Amelia's arms. Link lay next to her on the bed, and made sure Scout was gentle when he "pet" the new baby. It warmed his heart to see his little family all together, all safe and healthy. It had been a long day for the family, and Amelia needed to sleep. Jemma was put back in her bassinet, and Link dragged in a cot to sleep on, with Scout tucked against him. He reached out a hand for Amelia's to hold, to prove that he was there for her no matter what.
It was in that position that Addison found them, as she came by to check hours later. Sleeping soundly, even Jemma. Addison smiled, turned out the light and moved on, happy to see that her work here was down.
As for the new parents, the peace wouldn't last long. Having two under two wasn't for the faint of heart, but Amelia and Link wouldn't change anything for the world. Because the next thing in store was a wedding, one that would put all others before and after, to shame.
of course i had to bring back addison :) also do you like Amelink's daughter's name? i sure do. and that proposal...i am very proud of myself for it!
