The changeling was struggling with his new condition a couple of days after the incident.
Raven's disappointment waned, as she came to realize she was the only person that was able to assist her friend.
Besides, Beastboy's mish-mash of an appearance was too laughable to stay angry at.
Even in her solitude, Raven found amusement. During meditation, a random sound or feature of Beastboy's would pop into her head, causing Raven to chuckle or shake her head.
When Raven read a book, yet alone saw one, she imagined the bemused expression on Beastboy's face when the magic effect took place.
Usually when Raven had disturbances in her daily routines, they were for negative reasons. Emotional distress, sleep deprivation, and loss of appetite, to name a few. However, this was probably the only time Raven could recall her procedures being hindered by a positive cause.
Raven recently concluded her morning meditation on the roof. Now, she was casually drinking her cup of herbal tea at the kitchen island, with a book at hand.
Starfire was feeding Silkie while humming a Tamaranean folk song, and Robin and Cyborg were engaged in a video game.
Soon enough, Beastboy staggered into the Common Room.
"Mornin', dudes." Beastboy greeted, then the team returned the favor.
"Are you the O-kay?" Starfire quizzed.
The changeling started to lose balance in his legs, then hastily leaned on the kitchen island.
"I have zebra legs, fish arms, a sheep's torso, snake eyes, a bird beak, and rabbit ears, but besides that, I can't complain."
Now that Beastboy was a few inches apart from Raven, she was finding it hard to keep her composure.
Raven mentally admitted that it was not simply this strange image Beastboy obtained that toyed with her mind, but merely Beastboy himself...
"I discern you are not making the sounds of animals." Starfire reasoned.
Before Beastboy was able to respond, the alarm rang through the Tower.
Robin zipped to the analytical screens, with the team not too far behind him.
"The H.I.V.E." Cyborg shook his head.
"Yup, right near Jump City Mall. Titans, move!" Robin commanded.
Beastboy remained at the kitchen island in a crooked stance, "Uhhh... guys?"
The team paused.
"You might have forgotten that I kinda can't move. Plus, I'm pretty sure my powers are useless." the green teen established.
"Looks like you're gonna have to sit this one out, B." Cyborg stated.
Robin agreed, "Cyborg's right, and it would probably be wise if someone stays with you, just to make sure everything is alright."
"I'll stay with him." Raven volunteered rather quickly.
Beastboy grinned, "Wow, my new look's workin' it's own magic."
"Don't think I won't retract my offer." Raven huffed stubbornly.
Cyborg eyed Beastboy with a smirk, then glanced at Raven, "Well, just don't pull any spells on yourselves. Or each other."
"We'll try our best." Raven droned.
Robin nodded, then exited with Cyborg and Starfire.
Raven exhaled, facing Beastboy.
Beastboy softly requested, "Mind uh... helping me to the couch?"
"Yeah, yeah, of course." Raven wielded her magic, then placed Beastboy on the sofa.
She sat down next to him, "So... the animal noises stopped?"
"Yep, I can talk normally now. But like sheesh, Rae. You've gotta come up with a better recipe for those potions."
Raven raised her eyebrow in confusion, "What do you mean? The potion seems to be working on you just fine."
"The taste, dude. Every time I drink some of it, I feel like I'm eating a metal bar, a piece of cardboard, and cotton balls all in one." he flapped his fish arms playfully.
"That's a way to describe it."
"Worst. Taste. Ever."
Raven's lips lightly curved skywards, "Not even meat beats that taste?"
"Okay, maybe the potion's the second worst taste ever," Beastboy chuckled, "What did you put in there, anyway?"
"Some essential oils, herbs, some other stuff. It would probably help if you wash that down with juice or something."
"That would have been nice to know, given that I gotta take this thing twice a day."
"Well, you've got some time to spare. Remember, only take a swallow two times a day and that's it." Raven kindly advised.
"What's gonna happen if I don't?"
"Vision impairment, fatigue, liver damage, nothing to worry about." the girl noted with heavy sarcasm.
"Hm. And... how long is it going to take for me to go back to normal?"
"I'm not too sure. It's only been a day or so and your voice is back, so I would predict not too long."
"Cool." he sighed.
A hush fell over the room.
Beastboy tried to get up and fell on the ground.
"Ow."
Raven held down a laugh while helping Beastboy back on the couch with her powers, "Are you alright?"
"Yeah. Remind me to never do that again, at least while I'm like this." Beastboy grunted, feeling annoyed.
"Do you need something?"
"A cup of orange juice would be nice."
Raven walked to the kitchen, got the glass of juice, and resumed her seat on the sofa.
"Thanks, Rae. I owe ya one, once you cast a spell on yourself."
"Can't wait for that to happen." the dark Titan found herself hiding yet another grin.
Raven found Beastboy's company rather enjoyable, like usual.
She simply never wanted to confess it.
"Dude, this is so annoying, are you sure there isn't a faster fix to this thing? I would expect since it took me two seconds to be Houdini, that it would take two seconds to revert back to my human form. I miss playing Mega Monkeys Three, flipping through moped magazines, reading comics, walking, being able to be the animals I want to be."
"Trust me, if there was a faster way to reverse the effects, I would have done it the minute I found out."
Beastboy's bird beak made it impossible to smile, but he was smiling on the inside.
Every part of Raven's character that was hidden, held more power than the one she put upfront. Her caring nature was especially rare within itself. Beastboy apprehended over the course of their friendship, that even if Raven did not display her concern for others, it was always there.
"Ah, so what I'm gettin' from this is that you miss the regular Beastboy?" the changeling commented with a light tease in his words.
Raven responded in her classic monotone,
"Is that a trick question?"
