Just then, he heard a beeping noise, and a man broke through one of the building's many glass windows. He pounced onto the Doctor and shouted "WHO ARE YOU?!", to which the Doctor replied… "Oh, boy."
"ANSWER ME GODDAMMIT," the man shouted one again. "Okay, okay, okay. Hi. I'm the Doctor. What's your name?" asked the Doctor. The man exhaled calmly and said "I'm Axel. Sorry, I shouted at you." "It's okay, I guess." "I work here, by the way."
The Doctor looked at him for a moment before replying "Cool. But there's something you should know." "What's that?" Axel asked. "I started the time travel thing. Like actually," the Doctor said. "I've been doing this since 1963. You did it way after. Deal with it. You can't hide from it."
Axel was taken aback by this revelation, but he didn't argue with the Doctor anymore.
"O- Oh my god. After all this time, I've been lied to! They told me they started it first! It was all a setup!" "No. No, it wasn't. That was just the lie they told to make you feel... dumb."
Axel thinks all of this through. "They told you that, but they never told you the truth, did they?" the Doctor asks. "No." Axel's silent for a moment. Then… "WHAT'S WRONG WITH ME?!" he shouts, sitting up. "Why was I lied to?! What did I do?! What's going on?!"
The Doctor stands up again. "Calm down there, sport," he says. "Everything's gonna be fine. Just take deep breaths and we'll get this over with. Okay?" "...Okay." "Now, why don't you join me on my quest? That sound good?" "Yeah. I'm in." "Alright. Let's do this."
So, Axel joined the Doctor's journey to the top of the building and from there, they started finding the company's manager. Soon, they reached floor six, a very high floor, and from there, a couple of workers seemed to have been chained inside this floor.
"We need to get them out!" The Doctor shouted. "I'll go up first." Axel followed him down the stairs, but the Doctor stopped him before reaching the bottom one. "Wait! I want you to stay there where it's safe," He said. "I'll tell you if something goes wrong." "Okay," Axel said, "but what about the thing you're doing?" The Doctor took his time looking around the room and then he looked at Axel. "This is going to be easy." Then, he ran towards the lifts.
The trapped workers were two young men who had been working on the building for only a few months. They were always seen talking to each other and cracking jokes. "...So, I says to Mabel, I says…" "Heh heh heh. You're funny," the two men said in a sickly manner.
"Uh… Hi," the Doctor said as he came closer to the two. "Who are you?" one said. "I'm the Doctor, and I'm here to rescue you," the Doctor said. "Oh, cool. Can we be your companions?" the other said. "No. I already have one." "But why?" "It's pretty much self-explanatory." "Oh, okay."
After the Doctor freed them, the two workers thanked him. "No problem," the Doctor said. "You're our idol," the workers said. Then, he turned back to them. "Now, go on with your lives." The two men looked at each other and then at the Doctor. "Okay. Bye."
"C'mon, Axel." As the Doctor and Axel walk to the next floor, the room had become notably shorter. Eventually, they made it to floor 7. The duo was shocked as they discovered that they weren't on floor 7… They've made it to floor 8!
When they went backward, they've appeared on floor 9! Then 10, 11, 12, 13, 14… The more they went through the door, the higher they get. Until, finally… It stopped. The torment was over. They have advanced to the 190th floor.
"Yeah! We made it!" Axel exclaimed. "No duh," the Doctor replied. "There's no way we could have gotten to floor 190 without help. This place must be some sort of trap or something." "Well, let's find out," Axel said. "Good idea, coming from a companion of mine," the Doctor said.
Then, our intrepid heroes opened up a secret door and entered another area. There was an elevator, which would take them to the top floor. They got in the elevator, but halfway through, it didn't work.
"Okay, what just happened?" Axel asked. "Maybe it's broken," The Doctor suggested. "Let's check it out." Then, he whipped out his sonic screwdriver and saw the problem. There was something inside that is tearing up the wires.
"What in the-?" Axel asked. "Is this some kind of joke?" "Pretty sure it isn't," the Doctor replied.
"Look, I think we should leave right now," Axel said. "We can fix this thing later." "If that's what you really feel like doing," the Doctor said.
Suddenly, the elevator doors opened up and the Doctor stepped outside. Then, he turned around, blocking the doorway. "Do you want to get out of here?" he asked. "Of course!" Axel said. "But I thought we're fixing the elevator first."
"Yeah! Then I said we'll fix it later! L-A-T-E-R. Later." "Well, it looks like you're stuck with me for the time being. Come on, let's explore this area!" The Doctor promptly left… And so did Axel, without fixing the elevator. "Ugh, fine. Whatever."
Soon they encountered floor 195, a psychedelic landscape. "This place is pretty cool," the Doctor said. "I've never seen anything like it before." "You haven't? Well, come on then, let's see if we can find something interesting." "But what about our journey?" "Eh, who cares about that?" Axel laughed. "It's not important anyway; we need to be focused on finding something useful here."
They explored this strange world until they came across a large computer screen. Suddenly, it turned on. "Welcome to the Multilands, a part of this building that your mortal bodies cannot comprehend! And now, your journey will be examined in great detail!" A voice said from the computer. "For the next several hours, you shall explore this landscape of possibilities. To begin, please press start."
"Wh- what is this?" the Doctor asked. "It's a part of the place that we're in," Axel answered. "Um... Okay. I guess." The Doctor clicked on start, and they were soon treated to a view of the room as seen through the eyes of a greenish floating person. "What is happening?" the Doctor asked. Axel replied with a shrug. "We don't know," he said. "We're just exploring." "Well then, explore!" the computer said. "The Multilands await you." The screen then faded to black.
"Well, uh… That happened," the Doctor said. "That's the Multilands for ya," Axel replied. "Now, come on. It won't hurt ya." "Y- Yeah. Nothing bad, painful, and/or unexpected can happen here… Right?"
