Chapter 3: Potions and Slytherin Tention

At around 7 am, Remus Lupin was the first one of his roommates to have woken up. And probably the first one in the entire Gryffindor tower.

The young lion has always been a early riser. Usually because his condition had often gave him nightmares so he had limited himself from sleeping too much.

He was a shy young lad and quite the bookworm at that. Honestly he had been a bit surprised at being sorted into Gryffindor, he had expected that the hat would have sorted him in the house of wise rather than that of brave.

He was glad he had James Potter, Sirius Black and Peter Pettigrew for roomates though.

The three were friendly enough. Sure, James was somewhat too arrogant at times. True, Sirius seemed too much influenced by house prejudices. And yes, Peter was too easy to get influenced by people and was probably afraid to share his actual thoughts just to please others. He hadn't really been able to find much about Frank's personality yet except for his kindness and helpful persona. But atleast they were kind enough and usually happy to include him.

Around 8:30 after he had taken a shower, he decided that it was time to wake his roomates up so they don't get late for the classes.

The four later met up with Lily who was accompanied by Alice Fortescue, Marlene McKinnon and Dorcas Meadowes at the common room.

"Hey ladies." Sirius greeted the girls with a charming smile. One can easily tell that he's going to be quite the ladies man in a few years.

"Hey boys, let's go to the Great Hall. We're hungry and you guys take too long getting ready. I am starving!" Announced a very hungry Marlene.

"Not our fault, James needed to make sure his robes looked just perfect and Sirius had to style his hair for an hour like a diva." Frank replied.

Sirius decided to cut in by saying, "Perfection takes time guys."

Dorcas rolled her eyes and spoke, "And they say us girls takes time to get ready."

The group then decided to exit the common room and headed towards the Great Hall.

In the Great Hall, Lily's first look went towards the Slytherin table where Severus seemed to be engaged in a conversation with another first year she remembered to be Nathan Grey. Astrid was at the time busy ready some charms book.

At the Ravenclaw table, her second year friend Aurelia was talking to another second year girl she wasn't familiar with who seemed to be eagerly showing her something in a file. Lily couldn't tell clearly from the distance.

She hadn't made any friends in the Hufflepuff house yet so she didn't really paid much attention to it yet. Though she was surely hoping to make some from the house of loyalty and hard work.

She then herself started to speak to the current Gryffindor prefect, the seventh year Molly Prewett and didn't even realised when her plate of food had gone empty.

Her first class was Potions, which she shared with the Slytherins and would be taken by the Slytherin head of house, Professor Slughorn.

Lily and Alice decided to partner up together so Severus went with his new found Slytherin friend Nathan Grey.

James and Sirius partnered up so Remus partnered with Peter.

"Hey Snape, you ignoring us?" Evan Rosier called out in the classroom.

Severus rolled his eyes at the pureblood, "Now why would I need to ignore you Rosier?"

"You haven't spoke once to us Snape, and we're roomates." Everett Mulciber added to his partner's words.

"How unfortunate, you must be dieing knowing that someone doesn't wish to speak to you." Retorted Severus.

Nathan decided to speak up for Severus, "I don't blame him for not wanting to speak to you Rosier, Mulciber. You and your kind have already destroyed the Slytherin reputation."

"Stay out of people's buisness Grey. Atleast our families have class and don't run away with muggleborns like your filthy bloodtraitor sister." Everett gritted.

"Don't you dare to speak of my sister you inbred death Eater in training! Nevaeh was thousands times better than your psychopathic murderer master!" The young Slytherin yelled angrily.

The rest of the class now finally became aware of the tention between the Slytherins, and the Gryffindor were gleefully cheering for Nathan, hoping a few hexes would be displayed.

Unfortunately for them, Severus tried to get his friend to calm down and Professor Slughorn decided that to the perfect time to enter the class.

He happily started to introduce himself and talk about the potions, completely oblivious to the tension among his first years. "Good morning children! Welcome to your first potions class. I am looking forward to seeing all the new talent."

The professor spoke to a few students whose parents or relatives were influential and then started to brew a potion which was the cure for boils.

Severus Snape and Nathan Grey managed to be the first ones to brew a successful potion, earning them 10 points and great praises.

Lily and Alice followed them and we're instantly becoming the professor's favorite.

On a contrary, Mulciber and Rosier had managed to tragically blow up their cauldron and became quite the laughing stock of the class, with Severus and Nathan laughing the hardest, though James and Sirius were also laughing hysterically.

Remus and Peter then also created a successful potion, although it was obvious that was due to Remus's brilliant influence.

James and Sirius however almost blew their cauldron as their focus was a whole lot more on laughing at the two bully Slytherins than their potions. Yet they did managed to do their task successfully, after Frank who was seated behind them reminded them to focus.

One can say that Professor Slughorn was rather disappointed on finding that the Rosier and Mulciber heirs incapability.

But it did gave rest of the class to have a fun laugh.
