"Ok, what's going on?" asked Percy as he locked the door of the dorm room. Only Percy and Naruto were in the room and Grover had gone somewhere with Mr. Brunner. "What was Mrs. Dodds? How did you shoot fireballs? Why did Mr. Brunner give me a pen that turned into a sword? Who is Mrs. Kerr? Ho-" He continued.
"Whoa, whoa calm down Percy." Naruto interrupted. "Mrs. Dodds was a monster disguised as a human. She wanted something from you but I don't know what, and for how I shot fireballs, um, that is a long story."
"We have lots of time Naruto, tell me everything."
Naruto sighed. 'Hey kid, tell him that bullshit story you cooked up incase he ever found out.' Said Kurama in Naruto's mind. 'Ok Kurama, and it is not bullshit. It is sensible.' Naruto replied in his mind.
'Yea right.' the fox chuckled.
"Let's start from the beginning." Started Naruto, "You see, I have this energy flowing through me which I call Chakra."
"Like the Indian thing?" asked Percy.
"No. I was born with Chakra and can sort of, mold it in different ways. It allows me to perform different actions, like this," he said as he stared walking up the wall of the dorm and was then hanging upside down from the ceiling."
"Whoa, cool."
"I know right?" He jumped down from the ceiling. "It also allows me to control the elements and perform 'Jutsus'. The ones I did in the museum were Gale palm and the Fire style: Phoenix flower Jutsu."
"How did you learn these 'jutsus' of yours?" Percy asked curiously.
"I created all of these. Remember Percy, I was born with chakra. I had years to experiment and develop new tricks and techniques." He lied, "I also have what you would call 'inhuman speed and strength'. My body has an unnatural healing rate and because of that I can train extremely hard and improve my speed, strength and skills."
Percy nodded dumbly and asked, "Train?"
"Yes. Physical and chakra control training."
Percy nodded again and asked, "Then how do you know about monsters."
"Mrs. Dodds wasn't the first monster I fought. I have been attacked before. The first time was when I was six. I barely survived. Then, I found some ancient scrolls in my house in Japan. Turns out, my ancestors were ninjas. This got me interested and I started training in the ways of the ninja. Each day, pushing my body to its limit, getting stronger, so when the next time monsters attack me, I can defend myself."
Kurama chuckled in Naruto's mind about how bullshit this story is.
"So you have been attacked multiple times before?"
"Yes."
"Oh."
"Moving on, I soon realized that there is some kind of force preventing normal humans from seeing the monsters and the crazy stuff I do. Its like their brains can only understand what is normal for them and they see, hear, smell or sense the most reasonable and human thing possible. That is why nobody remembers Mrs. Dodds and know someone called Mrs. Kerr. It was the force that messed with their brains and gave them false memories."
"That makes sense, kinda."
Naruto nodded, "Mr. Brunner definitely knows about this. Even more than me. He is definitely hiding something, and so is Grover. I know when someone lies, and both of them are."
"Yea, you are probably right."
"Percy, there is a reason I asked you to keep that sword. I am gonna train you."
"Huh? Train me?"
"Yes. I wont always be there to protect you, so you will have to learn to protect yourself."
"Oh, cool."
Naruto smirked, "You wont be saying that after we start."
"And why is that?"
"Because it will be extremely difficult and painful. A proper term would be brutal."
Percy looked at him in horror. He knew that Naruto wasn't lying. He gulped.
The next few months till the end of the year were tough for Percy. Naruto had been putting him through intense training. They used every holiday to train all day and they also trained every evening till late night. Percy had been wearing weights on his, arms, legs and his chest and never removed them unless he was sleeping or taking a shower. He was always tired in class because of this and often slept. One time, His English teacher, Mr. Nicoll, asked him for the millionth time why he was too lazy to study for spelling tests, and he snapped. He called him an old sot. He wasn't even sure what it meant, but it sounded good.
The headmaster sent his mom a letter the following week, making it official: He would not be invited back
next year to Yancy Academy.
Fine, He told himself. Just fine. He was homesick. He wanted to be with his mom in their little apartment on the Upper East Side, even if he had to go to a public school and put up with his obnoxious stepfather and his stupid poker parties. And yet... There were things he would miss at Yancy. The view of the woods out of his dorm window, the Hudson River in the distance, the smell of pine trees. He'd miss Grover, who had been a good friend, even if he was a little strange and hid things from him and was a terrible liar.
He'd miss Latin class, too—Mr. Brunner's crazy tournament days and his faith that he could do well, but mostly, he would miss Naruto. He was his bestfriend, he trained him and without him, he might not even be alive right now. Naruto had always been by his side and they had enjoyed their times together at Yancy.
As exam week got closer, Latin was the only test Percy studied for. He hadn't forgotten what Mr. Brunner had
told him about this subject being life-and-death for him. He wasn't sure why, but after the incident with Mrs. Dodds, He'd started to believe him.
The evening before the final exam, Percy and Naruto were in their dorm room, relaxing. They had already studied for the Latin test the next day. With the help of Naruto, Percy was sure that he would get good grades.
"Hey Percy!" Naruto called out to him.
"Yea. What's up?" Percy replied.
"I was thinking, Grover and Mr. Brunner have been hanging out together an awful lot lately."
"Yea. They are definitely hiding something. I have a feeling they know something about why we are not normal and what Mrs. Dodds was."
"My thoughts exactly. Lets go check up on them."
"Ok. Let's go."
The two boys walked downstairs to the faculty offices. Most of them were dark and empty, but Mr. Brunner's door
was ajar, light from his window stretching across the hallway floor. They were three steps from the door when Naruto stopped Percy and whispered in his ear, "Just listen to what they are talking about and don't make a sound."
Percy just nodded and then they heard Grover, " I am worried about Percy sir. We can't leave him alone this summer. I mean, a Kindly one in school! Now that we know for sure, and they know too-"
"We would only make matters worse by rushing him," Mr. Brunner said. "We need the boy to mature more."
"But he may not have time. The summer solstice deadline is near. He and Naruto already suspect that we are hiding something. Naruto is with him and they both know that what they saw and fought in the museum was real. They already know too much."
"You might be right Grover. Naruto is no ordinary child. He has powers, ones that nobody in this world has ever seen. I suspect that he also might be a demigod, just like Percy. His sheer speed was faster than any demigods I have ever seen. It seems that Naruto has trained and fought monster before."
At this, Percy was shocked beyond belief. He and Naruto were Demigods? He had a million questions and was about to say something but Naruto put his hand on his mouth and silenced him as they continued listening.
"The mist over the students and staff won't be able to convince them. I think Naruto already knows about the mist." The teacher continued. "Talk to Sally Jackson and get them ready. They will have to come to the camp this summer. They are no longer safe out in the open-"
A pen dropped out of Percy's pocket and hit the ground.
Mr. Brunner went silent.
Percy's heart was hammering while Naruto stayed calm, he picked up the pen and the both of them backed down the hall. A shadow slid across the lighted glass of Brunner's office door, the shadow of something much taller than my wheelchair-bound teacher, holding something that looked suspiciously like an archer's bow. Naruto opened the nearest door and pulled Percy inside.
A few seconds later they heard a slow clop-clop-clop, like muffled wood blocks, then a sound like an animal snuffling right outside their door. A large, dark shape paused in front of the glass, then moved on. A bead of sweat trickled down Percy's neck. He pulled out his ballpoint pen and uncapped it as it turned into a bronze sword. He had been trained by Naruto on how to use it and was surprisingly good at it. Percy quickly opened the door and jumped outside along with Naruto, ready for anything.
The strange, horse-like creature turned and shot an arrow at them. Naruto just caught the arrow out of mid air and snapped it, shocking the creature. The next thing they saw, shocked them. It was Mr. Brunner, with the lower body of a horse.
"Mr. Brunner, what are you?" asked Percy.
"I am a centaur Percy, and my name is not Brunner. It is Chiron."
Sorry for the cliffhanger. The next chapter will be uploaded sometime this week. I will try to upload it tomorrow but it might be delayed since I might be travelling.
Anyways, thanks for the support.
Peace.
