Whispers followed as she ordered a packet of chocolates, the sun up tall as the first hours passed through the day. Politely, she thanks the lady before she starts to walk back home.

There's something so incredibly delightful with waking up early with a preteen body, she mused, resisting the temptation to start her box of pocky.

If nothing else, sweets will always bring joy to her life.

She ignored the continued whispers with ease, even if the lack of worship and awe are somewhat irking.

I'm not an Empress yet. She has to remind herself, just a sweet eating child.

But even with her growing empathetic abilities, they weren't exactly being the most discrete with their pity and disappointment. Honestly, she was two, their children had barely learnt to walk at this point. Idly, she wondered if her first life had held any frustration and jealousy towards Itachi. But for the life of her, she really couldn't remember.

My sympathies to you, mini-me. This is aggravating with the knowledge I could destroy the compound in a moment. Truly, humans can be so ridiculous sometimes.

She reaches for her mother's rosemary, plucking a leaf as she puts it between her lips.

She's already taken some small branches, planting them in pots on her window sills for the day she'll have to leave.

Perhaps I should head to the mist this time? She ponders, knowing that Mei Terumī is currently twelve. The harshness of the village would still leave her distrustful, but not as much as the civil war would. The problem with involving herself with mist was the glaring holes of its history. Most namely, her uncertainty regarding Yagura Karatachi.

"I could ask Isoubu." Kurama offers.

You could. She agrees, but that would require meeting them in person, and his host is already the Mizukage.

"The Akatsuki?"

"..Not yet under their thumb. She responds. I do know it's not for another year. She adds after a moment of silence.

The villages of Stone, lightning and sand were more complicated. Her ability to gain influence over them as a Uchiha left them severely lacking. No, best starve their resources in future decades and have them fall apart.

It's something she could never understand, why humans would wage a war when they could simply cut of the resources in a bloodless manner.

"I'm home." She calls softly, eyes darting towards the clock in the hallway as she took her sandals off. An hour remaining until Itachi woke up, some few minutes after Fugaku Uchiha had left. She timed her arrival perfectly.

She wondered what she was doing here.

"Welcome home, Kayda. Say hello to your godmother."

"Kayda!" The red-haired jumped from her chair, pulling her into a hug as she cooed at the two-year-old. "How's my favourite goddaughter?"

"Your goddaughter is in peak condition." Is her monotoned response. "I was under the impression you would not be visiting until tonight, Kushina-sama."

Kushina sends her a horrified glance, turning to her mother with a pointel look before returning her stare towards her. "Ku-shi-na. No sama. We've been over this repeatedly!"

"Of course, Kushina-sama." She responds dryly. Aware that the woman shouting would wake her brother. "If that is what Kushina-sama desires, then I will endeavour to call you Kushina, Kushina-sama. After all, who am I to question Kushina-sama's lack of etiquette."

The woman's eye twitched. Sending her mother another glare as if accusing her of her suffering.

It wasn't an entirely wrong accusation either. Kayda... was not the most expressive woman on the planet. But while her lack of display was true, she also exaggerated it to keep irritations away. And her mother had had an 'Ice Queen' reputation when she was younger.

But mostly, it was Kushina's fault for developing her terrible sense of humour. Most people didn't find amusement in watching an adult struggling with an emotionally dead two-year-old. She did. Watching Fugaku Uchihas migraine was an amusing sight, even if it did involve an hour of lectures on honour and loyalty.

"Behave you two." The woman chided, ignoring her friends spluttering as she kissed her cheek. "And pretend to listen to your godmother while I'm out. I'll be back home in a few hours. Try not to burn down the house." Her mother sighs, reaching for her coat before she closes the door with a gentle movement.

"Ha, I'm in charge!"

"Delusion is the first step to insanity." She counters, lying on the sofa as she pulls out some spare paper.

"You used to be so cute." She wines. "Now you almost as boring as your father."

"Hn." She ignores the insult, starting with basic equations to alleviate her boredom. "Mother will be delighted to know you called me ugly."

The woman splutters. "I said no such thing!"

"I believe 'You used to be so cute', qualifies as an implication of losing beauty."

"Brat."

"Jackanape."

"...The hell does that mean?"

"To be cheeky or impertinent. It could also mean 'tamed monkey'. You can choose."

"...Do you have the entire dictionary memorised, dattebane?" She asks curiously, easily forgetting the offence.

"Yes." Her lips twitch, going over the answers before she starts the next set. "It's useful when people fail to notice they're being insulted."

"...And Fugaku complains about you?"

"Fugaku Uchiha would complain about a strand of hair."

"Ho?" She tilts her head, looking over her shoulder curiously. "Say, would you be interested in learning-?"

"No thank you."

"You haven't even heard what I had to say!" She whines, shaking her shoulders petulantly.

"Hn."

"Come on! Seals might seem boring, but once you learn the basics they really useful, dattebane!"

See.

Thing is. Kayda wanted to say yes. The chance to learn from one of the two remaining seal masters was tempting. The fact that Kushina Uzumaki was the only remaining person that could teach her the Uzumaki style was enough for her to even contemplate the idea.

"I'll think about it."

But in the end, it wasn't worth it. No matter how much she loved this woman, Kushina Uzumaki would die within two years. Minato Namikaze would die with her, sealing Kurama into Naruto and leaving her without a teacher.

And two years was not enough to learn the basic of seals. The basic that she already knew. Being intelligent and mature was one thing. But asking to skip the basics wasn't exactly possible. For one, two-year-olds knowing seals that took years to learn would raise questions. For another, this body's hands weren't quite developed to the point she could start anything but the basics.

It just wasn't worth the investment.

Kushina sighed. And then she blinked. "Say, do you want some Ramen?"

"...Mother is making us dinner and lunch."

"But Ramen."

"It's not even seven." She points out, stopping herself from laughing at the seer fondness she feels for this woman.

"Ramen!" She cheers. Kayda isn't particularly surprised that the woman knew that she'd conceded. She also isn't particularly impressed when Kurama chuckles echoed through her mind.

"If mother finds out. I'm using you as bait."

"If your mother finds out, I'm already dead."

"...Hn."
