THE RESCUE
LEXA
It was a beautiful night, the stars shining up in the sky. Candles are softly lit up the room did little to stop Lexa in her haste to see her mate. Along with Raven and Anya, she had been working nonstop for weeks in Polis tower, waiting for Raven and her team to finish some repairs to the Congeda's radio and cable network that had been blasted in the latest war. The Alpha enters the room she shares with her mate and frowns when Clarke is nowhere to be seen, but after a few steps the she finds her lover resting against the bedroom's balcony, eyeing the quiet streets below.
Making her presence noticed, not wanting to startle Clarke, Lexa removes her red sash and shoulder pad along with the rest of Heda's armor. It's not until she's only wearing a brown tank top and short shorts that she reaches for her oddly silent mate.
"You feeling okay, hodnes?" Lexa gently wraps her arms around her mate's waist, kissing her shoulder.
She couldn't see Clarke's beautiful face, since the blonde was looking down the windowsill, but she knew her mate was smiling.
The blonde straightens her back before replying. "Just… got lost in my own thoughts."
She nods against Clarke's back. "Are those thoughts private or you can share them?" She asks softly, gently hugging her mate.
"The tower's water system is fully functional." Clarke discloses. "We can take hot baths whenever we please."
Lexa hums, she knew her Omega very well and this was a small stall on sharing her real thoughts. After a moment, Clarke finally reveals what had her attention caught.
"I spent my afternoon helping and watching Ranya wiring the hall with a baby, literally, wrapped at their backs." The blonde subtly discloses with awe in her voice. "I offered to take of the babies, but when Rae handed Jay to me, Evy started to cry because she wanted me to hold her too," she sighs, "-I had to give them back, I'm not capable to carry both at the same time. I'm not a parent, I don't know how to handle a baby, much less two at the time."
The Alpha nods, that last thing was true, neither of them have any experience with children. But neither did Anya or Raven and they were the most amazing and doting parents Clarke and Lexa had ever met. Curiosity filled her mind, remembering the name Clarke casually used.
"Ranya?"
Moving her arms around Clarke waist, placing soft kisses down her neck, her mate rests her head against the Alpha's shoulder. "Yes, as in Raven and Anya, you know their ship name."
"Didn't know Raven build a ship."
Clarke chuckles, letting her Alpha's hands slid down her waist. "It means like a couple's nick name… anyways,"
Halting her ministrations, Lexa settles her arms lovingly around Clarke's hips prompting her to turn around.
"What's troubling your mind hodnes?"
Clarke instinctively raised her hands to Lexa's shoulders, palms resting on her collarbones, the blonde lowers her gaze and mumbles.
"The twins are damn cute."
"Is, is that a bad thing?" Green eyes widen in concern. She sighs sheepishly. "I haven't seen them this week, did I miss something?"
Taking a couple of steps away, the Omega groans annoyed as she waves her arms restlessly. "Not bad per se, but they are giving me itchy ovaries."
"You better go and see Abby if your ovaries are itchy, niron." The Alpha advices worriedly.
Clarke shakes her head, chuckling softly, "Not in a literal way love. It means that my stupid biological clock has my body craving for a baby of my own." The Alpha's worried features changed into a distressed one. Before she could say anything, her Omega squeezed her hand, "There's no need for us to have this conversation again. I know we can't and shouldn't get pregnant now, it wouldn't be fair to our child." Lexa nods, "Maybe one day."
"I promise." She places a hand on the blonde's cheek soothingly, "Someday, we will have our own pup and they will be the most loved and cared for child a parent could've ever wished for. We will be lucky enough to have a perfect mix of you and myself to love, but first we have a job to do." The Omega nods, forehead resting against hers, "I need to change some laws in case they have the blood. I do not wish anyone to go through the same heartache I went through just for having night blood. It's an honor to be born a Natblida, but that doesn't mean that I like the burden it carries when it comes to other Natblidas. I need to change this law, for our future children and for-"
"Our niece, I know." Clarke sighs. "I know Anya seems proud of her girl, but Raven told me they are terrified of what's waiting for Evy."
The Alpha kisses her mate's forehead. "No child will die in a Conclave ever again. We will protect the future of our people, out children."
Hugging her tightly, understanding the implications of changing such an ancient and sacred tradition will not come without consequences, Lexa kisses her Omega's temple. A necesary change.
Silently cleaning a revel tear from her mate's cheek, Lexa helps Clarke to get into the bed. It pained her heart they had to hold over their desire of a pup, but it terrifies the idea of having a Natblida pup and raise them with only one purpose in their life: to fight and kill the other in the conclave in order to be Heda. Never in her life the Alpha could have thought she will be discussing such subject with a lover, much less believe she would find her soulmate.
They still have to work to do, war was always a threat in their world. As their people leaders, Heda an Wanheda were in constant danger. After suffering the consequences of being Heda –several murder attempts and one lover dead- Lexa had persuaded Clarke to wait before deciding or not to start a family on their own.
Clarke kissed her Alpha. "I love you, Lexa."
"Ai hod yu in." She returns the chaste kiss, covering her lover with the blankets. "I mean it Klarke, if your ovaries itch, go and see Abby."
The Omega pouted, then proceeds to whack Lexa's face with a small cushion as they both laugh at the Alpha's words.

…Four and a half years ago…
CLARKE
Waking up was a difficult task. I could feel my body barely paying attention to my demands. My eyelids felt heavy, my mouth was dry as a desert and all I could see when I cracked one eye open was this bright light engulfing the place I was thrown at. Every single thing I tried to focus in was a blurry mess and it did not help that my hand apparently had a broken finger, it pounded making the thinking process a little harder to bear. I shook my head, quickly, trying to clear my mind, ignoring my hand's pain. Closing my eyes, I tried to picture the events of the night before… my eyes went wide as I remember: I am on the ground, Earth, aunt Cece and I were running away from some odd fog, and attacked by those Alphas but we escaped and then… Gosh, one of us didn't make it through the fog.
It was then when I noticed the bands on my wrists, covering the veins in the juncture of my arm. Someone had taken my blood, and my injured hand was almost fully healed. Fuck, was that a fresh cut in my right bicep? What have this invisible people done to me?
I felt sick to my stomach. I forced my eyes open one more time and my surroundings forced me to get to my feet so suddenly that I crashed against a glass door. This room was exactly like the Ark's icebox! And not only that, but I couldn't see any of my friends nor aunt Cece with me, I was left alone here! Hastily I survived my surroundings and this room resembles a 'fancy' prison cell. A twin bed, a couch, some sort of toilet space behind a bulkhead and then there was that damn door.
"What the fuck is going on!? Where am I?" I shout punching the door with all the strength I could muster. "Somebody fucking take me out of here!"
I don't know for how long I banged at the door. But at some point, what little strength I still had left my body and I collapsed against the door I desperately wanted to open it. By now, my voice turned hoarse, my face was covered in tears. I heard a noise and moved away from the door, all I could see was a shadow moving away from the door and soft footsteps getting lost.
Exhausted, I sat down heavily on the bed when a tall and muscled woman, clad in some sort of uniform opens and enters pushing a food tray, I could recognize this person anywhere. Those damn cheekbones!
"YOU!" I glared.
With a kick of her foot, the Alpha from the night before closed the door and moved quickly towards me, covering my mouth with a hand and pressing me against a wall. I tried to punch her, but the damn woman was stronger than I am!
Eying the corner of the room, she whispers, "Your people are looking for you, I had to wait until you woke up," she explains, "-we have to leave."
"What the fuck are you doing, why are you here?" I ask annoyed when she takes her hands away my body.
Pulling a change of clothes hidden in the food tray, she nervously peeks out the door. "Change." She orders.
"No. I don't know you."
"Klark, right?" She asks sighing, I nod. "My name is Onya Kom Trikru. Your aunt, and we all we were captured two weeks ago right after you ran away from the cave," she explains hurriedly, "-we managed to escape this place, but we couldn't take you with us because they held you here sedated, away from us." The more she speaks, the less sense all this makes. "I have a debt to the one who send me for you and I intend to fulfil said debt. I'll take you to them, alive, no harm."
"Where are you taking me. The people who cleaned and heal me up, are they the bad guys?"
She nods with a frown. "My people have been fighting them since the old world was consumed by Praimfiya. Your aunt mentioned you must know this as the nuclear catastrophe that ended the old world." I listen silently, if this woman was talking about my fellow Omega friends with such familiarity, it means somehow they had an agreement to take me out of wherever I was being held captured. "You need to change, your people are buying us time," she urged, hesitantly I start to remove my shirt, "-great, now, can you use one of these?" She hands me an automatic 9mm gun. I nod, but she notices the surprise my face shows. "I told you, I'm here to pay a debt and break you free from this place."
"Where are we?" I ask putting on the sneakers she hands me. "How long have I been here? I think they did something to me." I load the gun and secure it on my belt. "What are these clothes we are wearing?"
"Janitor uniforms," Onya replies adjusting a baseball cap over my head, making sure my hair is helping hide my face, "We were captured by Maun-de." She frowns, her eyes full of rage as she motions her head towards the door. "And now we need to leave."
She presses something in her ear and nods, is still don't know what is happening, but she urges me to follow her.
"I'm not…. Where are you taking me?" I apprehensively asked, this is an Alpha and I know better than trust them!
Onya must have caught on my agitation because her tone softens as she replies. "I will explain later, but now we have to hurry." I stood glued to the floor. She sighs, "I'm taking you to Jeik Kom Skykru."
"Jeik? Who is that person?" I tilt my head.
Rolling her eyes, the Alpha takes a small item out of her pant pockets. "He said that you'll know who I am talking about if I give you this." She hands me a watch I would recognize anywhere. Said watch had been in the Griffin family for four generations!
With shaking hands, I reached for my dad's old watch, and I knew there were tears running down my face because the Alpha suddenly look uncomfortable.
"This is his watch… how… are you trying to mess with me?" I demand.
Once again, I am urged to move, and I finally complied and follow the Alpha. "Jeik found it in the forest after we were captured when my people came looking for me and Linkon. He, like your aunt and yourself, was dropped here months ago." Onya explains, leading me with quick steps through a long and silent hallway. "For what he says, your Ark has been sending people to the ground for years now, waiting for them to call back in order to let the ones in the space that the Earth is survivable."
"Oh no," I gasped in a small voice, imagining the chaos all those entitled Arc Alphas could unleash. "-I have so many questions."
Turning to another deserted hallway, after pressing the small bud in her ear, she said. "I don't have the answers you are looking for," she uses a white card and opens a security door for us, "-once we're out of here you can ask and annoy your family."
I silently followed her again through the maze of doors and hallways. Now that I think about it, she was super stealth and precise with her moves and silent directions. It didn't take us long before we were facing a huge and ridiculously locked door.
She pressed on her Earbud again, whispering. "Jeik, you there?" My heart jumped in my chest, she was talking to my dad! I tried to reach for her intercom, but she pushed me away with a warning look. "Yes, we're okay and yes, she's safe, now how do I open the damn door?" "What did these people do to my dad anyways?"
The Alpha crossed her arms over her chest. "These people are bad; they haunt those who are born anything but Betas." I blink, this sounds oddly familiar. "In your Ark, you were persecuted because you were born an Omega," she said matter of fact, I guess she's been talking to dad and Cece, "-well, Maun-de is a hidden colony that wants to restore the 'natural' order to this world," she quotes, "-this mountain is full of Betas. They capture Alphas and experiment on them, and now they are doing it to Omegas I guess," she points at the band aids in the back of my hand.
About to ask more, I really needed to understand what I was dealing with, an alarm went off. Suddenly, the door in front of us makes a loud noise and starts blinking red. A huge gear locks it.
"Fuck!" The Alpha shouts and starts clicking on the button panel next to the door. "Jeik, this isn't working, an alarm just went off!"
"INTRUDER ALERT!" A mechanical voice echoes in the hall speakers, "ALL UNITS, REPORT TO THE MIDGARD HANGAR. I REPEAT, ALL UNITS, REPORT TO THE MIDGARD HANGAR!" The voice shouts, probably providing the guards with our location.
I pulled the gun out, turning around as I heard footsteps approaching us whilst Onya kept trying whatever instructions my dad was providing over the intercom.
"Please, ladies, stop this nonsense," a different voice from the mechanical one greets us, this man actually sounds kind of nice, "-Anya from the tree people what an honor to see you again. We have missed you in the harvest chambers." The man says, and this makes Onya growl angrily, "Girls, I'll advise you to let that door alone, no one is getting out of here."
"Fuck off Dante." Onya sneers to the air, still punching code after code.
"My solders outnumber you, they will do what I ask them to do," the man threats, "-do not open that door or I'd be in the necessity to open fire."
"Like I care." The Alpha huffs, damn but I do care! "I'll melt them if you don't tell them to stay the fuck away from this floor. You are a monster, Omegas are life, she deserves to be free." She all but turns around, adopting a fighting stance right in front of me. She had taken out of her back an axe and a short sword I recognize, that's an Ornate royal khopesh! Fuck, does this means were fucked!? The answer to my question was right before me in a second, a dozen of masked soldiers were pointing their guns at us.
The man on the speakers started to chuckle. "How ungrateful of you, Clarke," he addresses me, how do he knows my name? "-you're leaving us even after we provided you with one of the strongest birth control implants? We are just trying to help you."
"They did what now?" Asks Onya, discretely eying the blinking board next to the door.
I blink again, so that's what they did… without my consent! These people were just as bad as the Arc Alphas. Onya was right.
"You sure you don't want to stay, Clarke?"
"Do not take another step." Onya warns as she moves one hand to the door's huge now unlocked handle, "-I swear on Heda's name I'll open this door before you can hide like the undesirable plague you all are!"
Some of the men suddenly break their stance, looking into each other's eyes. Somehow, the idea of opening this door, terrified them.
"Please, ladies, there's no need for this. Clarke, return to your room all be pardoned." The man on the speaker said. Onya motions for me to get behind her, as I do this the man's voice is heard again, "-gentleman, do not let them scape. Open fire at discretion."
The men were about to shoot at us when Onya delivers on her promise, she throws her axe with such strength and precision that the man impaled on it fell to the floor with a loud thud, startling his teammates. The door behind us is suddenly open and in an instant, the front line of men was on the floor shouting and screaming in pain trying to run away from this space, desperately removing their clothing as if they were hot, but they were beyond hot, they were burning, literally. Their skin quickly was showing signs of painful blisters, burning scars and some of that skin started to turn black.
"SAVAGES! You are going to pay for this!" Was the last thing the man yelled at us before the huge steel door closes behind us, the man named Dante had shouted trough the speaker.
My medical curiosity wanted me to stay and watch this odd phenomenon, but the strong tug on my shirt's collar pulled me out of the horrible scene and the next thing I felt was my back hitting against something hard and damp.
::::
"Up!" Onya's voice orders. "Kid, we have no time to waste close to that damn mountain!" She pointed to a badly hidden metallic door.
Getting up, I stumbled to my feet and found out that we were outside that prison. Beautiful trees and lovely colors, along with the freshly sodden grass welcomed us. And mud was the thing that had soaked my back. She took the Earbud and crushed it with a stone as soon as we were on the outside.
"Why did you do that?! I wanted to talk to dad!"
She rolled her eyes, "This was what Jeik said I should do as soon as we were outside that place or they might track the device and find us."
I huff, she was right, dad, is right. "I guess."
"Now, come on, we need to get away from this area. I doubt Dante will let us get far after I killed those men." She starts to walk towards a small pond where she removes her own cap, letting her long braid free.
I followed her silently, after a while we were going down a small hill only to find the most majestic creature I've never seen. This animal was one of my favorite things to paint and draw.
"I-Is that a horse?"
Nodding, the Alpha reaches for the creature. The animal huffed happily, nibbling gently Anya's hand in a greeting gesture.
"I forgot Ark people are not used to real animals." She mocks.
And that's when I remember. "You said you were taking me to my dad," I took a step back, this caught her attention, "-what's my dad's last name?"
"Griffin." She easily replies.
This is not enough. "Okay, easy one. What about-"
"Look, girl," she snatches my wrist, "-Jeik wants you unharmed, and alive, but I can still slap your head if you try to run." The Alpha growls. Interesting, she's not using her biology to make me submit. "I'm not in the mood for your dumbness."
I raised my hands in surrender. "Okay, dad's really sent you to take help me." A grin took over my face, she nods sharply. "How long until we see him?" "Look, girl," she snatches my wrist, "-Jeik wants you unharmed, and alive, but I can still slap your head if you try to run." The Alpha growls. Interesting, she's not using her biology to make me submit. "I'm not in the mood for your dumbness."
I raised my hands in surrender. "Okay, dad's really sent you to take help me." A grin took over my face, she nods sharply. "How long until we see him?"
"About a day if you shut up and keep up." She answers readying the horse. She adjusts herself in the saddle, reaching for my hand. The alpha rolled her eyes at my terrified expression. "This is the fastest way. If we walk we are risking to get caught!"
I sighed. "Kay, but please don't drop me?" I plead letting the Alpha helping me to ride the horse, she places me at her front and chuckles at my clumsiness.
"Don't worry Klark, we will see your people in a bit." She assured right after prompting her horse to move full gallop.
:::
The travel to whatever location dad was waiting was not easy, not to me at least. I was not sure if we have been riding this horse for hours, days or minutes. It was earlier in the morning when we escaped Moun-de and the moon was well up in the sky.
It's been hours since the last time I drank water or ate something, my stomach growled and this made the Alpha behind me to sigh.
"I forgot your people is not used to go for long periods without food." We stopped, and thankfully she handed me an apple from the saddle bag, I devoured it within seconds. "Here, we're almost there." Onya points towards a dark patch of land between tall and wide trees, the moonlight and small torches pointed out the right way to a small settlement.
Halting the horse, the Alpha helps me to get off the animal and nods when she notices that I was still awake.
"You lied about seeing my dad tomorrow." I accused with narrow eyes.
She shrugs, a smirk on her face, taking the horse reins in a hand and walking towards a pair of huge guys guarding this small city's gateway. There was no need for her to tell me to follow her, I did it in silence, I had no choice but to trust my father's judgment, and he sent this Alpha to find me. Reaching the heavily armed guards, Onya said something in that weird language I heard her and the other Alpha speak the night we meet and immediately the guards nodded, taking the horse with them, allowing us to enter the guarded city on our own.
"We are in TriKru land," Anya explains, "-and I am the leader of this Village." I nodded, and follow her.
This place is quite interesting, I couldn't see any color since we were in the middle of the night but the torches and some bonfires softly lighten up this place letting me see the people here have a very different life than we do in the Arc. To my amazement, I found myself walking down a street full with people chatting other were gazing after us and I felt their anxiousness when their eyes landed on me. The houses, made of wood, some were small and some others were bigger, a few of them were simple huts with the most beautiful flowered gardens and small vegetal patches full with greens, I bet this place is stunning under natural light. We walked for a few minutes until we reached one big and lonely hut by the end of the road. There was a guard at the door, axe in her hand, guarding the door. She gave Onya a bow before saying something in that weird language of them, to my surprise the Alpha next to me sighed tiredly.
"Something wrong?" I ask softly.
Shaking her head as an answer, Onya orders something to the young woman at the door. I felt a weird pull towards that lean and muscled woman and I couldn't help but stare at her with curious eyes. The warrior, probably around my age or maybe a couple of years older, ogles me unashamedly and I smiled at her, she had red hair and strong arms, and I know she wanted to say something to me but Onya's voice hurries her to leave. The tall redhead nods at the blonde Alpha's requests and makes her way to the other side of the street.
"She seems nice. Why did you tell her to leave?"
Hazel eyes glare at me. "Now I know you don't understand Trigedasleng." I frown, and she explains, "Our language, that was not what I asked Kali to do." Oh, so the cute girl's name is Kali, got it. Then the Alpha reaches for the door, "Your father's here, but he's not alone, I need you to keep your mouth shut unless you are spoken directly." She orders with a serious face.
I don't like this, but this woman hadn't been anything but honest with me all this time, so I decided to trust her one last time. Besides, she said dad was waiting for us behind that door.
"Why are you being so mysterious?"
Opening the door, prompting me to follow her she whispers. "You will see why in a minute." She pulled me by the wrist, gently. "I mean it Klark, I know this man is your father, but the people here… they are not happy with your presence. So be true to your word, skai gada, and keep quiet."
Okay, now I am getting scared, were these people she was talking about a bunch of alpha assholes? Because if so I am doomed. Not having another option, I nodded again.
I follow her inside the tent and this time we found ourselves surrounded by candles that illuminate the area warmly, or so I thought until I heard him, dad, he's here. I completely ignored my surroundings, all I could focus on is his voice, but true to my word to Onya I remained behind her. Trying to calm down my racing heart, I focus my attention on the loudest voices apparently they were fighting over something.
"C'mon Jeik I know your mad, but try to understand-"
"Understand? Titus, you are asking me to forget about my daughter!
A woman's voice chimes in the argument, I'd recognize that voice anywhere, this is aunt Cece! "I understand that it's been weeks, but all we're asking for is just an extra week. Is this Heda so pissed at me that she can't keep helping us to retrieve a child, an omega who has no mate?"
"Maunon are cruel and unmoral individuals!" The bald guy shouts, hands in the air exasperated, "-you said it yourself Jeik," somehow, when he says dad's name his voice loses all his rage, "-you haven't heard from Onya in the last twelve hours. For all we know they were captured again. And what tell you that your child would be herself if she's retrieved, Maunon had her capture for weeks!"
Aunt Cece's voice loses her composure. "It's been barely sixteen days! And that's why we need to get her back! She's a child, an Omega who is getting treated like a lab rat in order to turn her Beta! Don't tell me you agree with their atrocious ways, Titus!"
Dad's voice startles me, well not his voice, but the amount of swears he's using.
"And I am fucking telling you, Titus, they're alive! Why are you being such an asshole?! Until yesterday you were with me, and now you suddenly want me to call off the search for my child?!"
Cece growls. "Unfucking believable, you ungrateful ass."
Peeking a bit behind Onya's back, I could see them in the middle of the place just a step away from one another. Aunt Cece, dad and a that tall, bald man wearing a weird robe, like a monk from the old world movies, he's trembling with rage as he was pushed by dad in the shoulder.
"Watch your tone, Spita," the bald man threatens Cece, but my old man took a step in front of her, raising his chin, daring him to attack the woman. Wow, this is the first time dad or Cece stand their ground before someone who's clearly not an Omega, "-or I might forget I owe you my life if you so much as dare to-"
I think Onya had finally had enough because she finally makes our presence acknowledged.
"To what, Titus? Are you going to kill the woman who saved your ass last week?" She unfolds her arms from her chest, placing her hands on her hips, "Heda might not be here," she narrows her tone angrily, if I didn't know this Alpha was repaying dad a favor I'd be pissing my pants, "-I'm Heda's right hand and I am back, I outrank you. Now shut the fuck up or I'll break your nose."
The bald man turned visibly red, he was trembling with contained rage, he was even sweating! But strangely he did not feel like a threat to my Omega, mom had taught me to feel if an Alpha was trying to use their biology to mess with me. Even though I've barely received like three lessons, I managed to understand I was being threatened by an Alpha. This man was not an Alpha, but he was dangerous.
After a second of Onya and this Titus dude glaring contest, dad's finally pulled out of his stupor by Cece's swat on his arm as she pointed at my hiding silhouette behind the Alpha. Dad's blue eyes widen in surprise and quickly those same eyes started shedding tears.
"And here I was telling your pup to be quiet," Onya shook her head as she kept glaring at the furious bald dude, but her words were addressed to dad, "-Jeik kom Skykru, as I promised, here's your daughter. Safe and sound." She steps aside, folding her arms over her chest, lifting her chin pleased with herself.
I took that as a clue to throw myself into my father's open arms. He felt so warm, I started to sob loudly, telling him how sorry I am that I get us caught back in the Arc, but all this man does was to kiss my temples and forehead, whispering reassuring words, assuring me that it was not my fault. A soft hand promptly joined our hug, never breaking us apart, but petting my hair with tenderness, Cece.
In-between hugs and soft smiles, Cece helps us to stand up, I didn't even notice we were kneeling in the middle of that room in front of those two grounders. Dad said something in that weird language to the bald guy and Onya as we silently left the tent to have some rest as aunt Cece wisely advised.
