While Dave, Jeffrey and Nora were on the roof with the giant Beebo who seemed to be unconscious, Rachel was still checking on the children. Earlier she had passed by a room where Ray and Dayland were doing a science experiment, completely oblivious to the fact that there was a giant Beebo on the roof.
Checking the room that Mayanah shared with Hollywood, Chica and Little One Jones, Rachel found Mayanah with a strange journal that she had never seen before.
"What you got there, Mayanah? Rachel asked, stepping into the room to get a closer look at the journal.
"Uncle Mick gave it to me on my birthday for my writing. This is the first time I'm using it." Mayanah explained.
Out of all the other male legends, Mick was the only one called 'Uncle' because in the beginning he hated it. The reason the name stuck was because the kids thought it was funny. Then Mick grew to like being called 'Uncle Mick'.
Rachel gave a nod, "Can I see what you wrote?"
The seven year old shook her head, "It's not finished yet."
"Mayanah." Rachel spoke gentle, but firm as she held out her hand. She didn't raise her voice. She never raised her voice.
"Fine." Mayanah uttered as she placed the journal on Rachel's hand.
Rachel scanned the pages of the notebook, spotting words like 'giant blue fur ball' and 'Beebo'. That was when she remembered the story Charlie had told her about tagumo. Connecting the dots, she realised why there was a giant Beebo on the roof. It was all in this notebook.
Rachel returned her attention to the seven year old, "Mayanah, did Uncle Mick tell you anything about this notebook?"
Mayanah nodded, "Yeah. To be careful with it and only use it for stories I really want to tell. Why?"
"Uh...no reason." Rachel replied, "I gotta go talk to Charlie. I'll bring your notebook right back as soon as I'm done."
At the DEO, Brainy had been tracking and scanning for unusual activity in National City when he came across the giant Beebo. Brainy had been telling Alex about the giant Beebo. Alex had her phone in her hand, ready to call Kara to deal with it when she got a call from Charlie.
Alex answered her phone, "Hey Charlie, I'm a little busy."
"Yeah well if it's about the giant Beebo, don't worry, I got it covered."
"Do you know what it is?" Alex wondered
Charlie hummed, "Mhm...Beebo is a result of something called Brigid's diary. Mick gave it to a seven year old for her birthday."
"And Brigid's diary does what exactly?"
"Makes fiction a reality." Charlie informed, "Now I really gotta go."
Charlie hung up the phone before turning to Rachel, thanking her with a pat on the shoulder and a smile. Taking the journal, Charlie headed up the stairs to talk with Mayanah. She didn't even make it to the top of the first flight of stairs when she found Mayanah sitting on the steps. She smiled and sat down beside the seven year old before handing her the journal back.
"That's a very lovely story." Charlie complimented, "Care to share how it ends?"
Mayanah shrugged after taking the journal, "I don't know yet."
"Do you know what it does? The journal, I mean."
Mayanah shook her head, "No. Uncle Mick just said it was really special, and it belonged with a writer that was just as special." She was smiling.
When Charlie informed Mayanah about what the journal does, the little girl's eyes widened and her mouth dropped open.
"I didn't know that. I'm sorry." She said, "Why didn't Uncle Mick tell me?"
"There's something I have to tell you about your Uncle Mick." Charlie started, "He loves you very much, but he doesn't always make the best decisions, even if his intentions are pure."
Mayanah nodded, "Okay. How do I fix it?"
"You have to finish the story." Charlie gave Mayanah a gentle nudge, "Now go on. Finish your story."
Mayanah stood up, gave Charlie a hug and then rushed back to her room with the journal to finish her story.
Meanwhile in the music room thirteen year old Cyrus, Serenity, and Isaiah were in there having a jam session. Over the weekend, they had started writing a song.
Cyrus was an expert guitarist like his dad. Serenity was the drummer, having learned everything she knew from her step-father, and Isaiah had the voice of an angel.
The song that they were writing was their first. It was called 'The Maker'.
With Cyrus strumming his electric guitar and Serenity rocking it out on the drums, Isaiah started to sing. The song wasn't actually finished yet. They were just practicing what they had so far.
"Little girl." Isaiah sang, "Just four years old. Got on her knees. By her bedside, late at night."
A few beats passed and then the tempo quickened a little bit.
"She closed her eyes, folded her little hands." Isaiah sang, "And talking to God, she said." He took a short breath, "God, You are greater. You're my identity. You're my maker. The maker of Heaven and Earth. You are loving. And You'll never….Leave me alone."
Serenity gave a final beat on the bass drum and Cyrus pulled the whammy board on his electric guitar.
The sound of clapping was heard. All three kids looked over to the doorframe, but Serenity was the first one to look up. It was Charlie clapping.
"Good job, guys." Charlie praised, "I can tell you've been practicing."
"Thanks Mom." Serenity replied, smiling.
When David had taken Charlie as his wife last year, it was a requirement that all his kids start calling her mom just like they did with his other wives. It had taken Charlie a while to get used to being called mom, but she liked it now.
Charlie nodded as she smiled back, "Yeah. It's almost lesson time. Cyrus, your lesson is tomorrow. And where are Dayland and Crystal?"
Even though Dayland and Crystal had the same music lesson time as Serenity and Isaiah, it was Cyrus that was the one who Serenity and Isaiah had formed a band with. Dayland enjoyed science more than music, and Crystal just enjoyed more quiet activities. She actually loved sewing, knitting and crocheting. She had a bit of an old soul.
"Crystal's probably sewing in her room." Isaiah said, "Or she might be in our mom's room."
"And Dayland's with Ray doing science experiments." Cyrus added, "I think when I saw them last it looked like they had taken apart Ray's phone."
"Mhm….yeah. That sounds about right." Charlie uttered, "Cyrus, will you please go get Dayland. And Isaiah, will you…"
Cyrus and Isaiah both nodded as they interrupted Charlie, "Yes. Of course, Mom."
Isaiah headed out the room first, and after gently putting his guitar on it's stand, Cyrus followed after.
While Cyrus was getting Dayland and Isaiah was getting Crystal, Mayanah was in her room trying to finish her story. She had managed to pry the now six year old Pages away from the book that she was currently reading and was bouncing ideas for her story off of her sister.
As a baby, Pages loved books. She was fascinated by them. That was how she got her name. She loved to read. That was pretty much all she did. All day and everyday. Pages was a lot like Matilda. She just devoured book after book. Her favorite authors right now were Roald Dahl, Judy Blume and Lauren Child. She really loved the Ruby Redfort books.
Isaiah had gotten Crystal with ease, but Cyrus was having a little difficulty prying Dayland away from science and Ray.
"Ray is teaching me how to build a phone." Dayland argued
Cyrus gave an exasperated sigh, "And it will be there when you get back. So will Ray. But right now, you have music lesson with Charlie. Dad will be mad if you don't go."
Dayland looked up at Ray. He was pouting just a bit, "Will you really be here when I get back? I miss you when you're gone."
Ray nodded as he squatted down, "Yes. I'm not going anywhere, Dayland. At least not for a while. Nora and I are gonna stay until the wedding. I will be here when you get back and so will our science. I won't do anything without you. I won't even touch it."
"Okay." Dayland agreed before going with Cyrus.
'Finally' Cyrus thought. He didn't think that Dayland would ever leave.
Dayland loved science, but he loved Ray just as much. He loved his dad, but he got to see his dad everyday. He didn't see Ray everyday, so when Ray visited he wanted to spend every possible second with him, learning as much science as he could in however long they had together for that visit.
After what seemed like a long walk, just before getting to the music room, Cyrus and Dayland parted ways. Dayland headed into the music room and Cyrus went to his room.
It was about two hours later. That's roughly how long the music lessons were. The younger kids were a little shorter, but anyways...Charlie thought the lesson went real well. They were good kids. All the kids were. They were great kids - special kids too.
Charlie smiled as she placed her hands on her stomach, thinking about her baby. Shari was right. Powers or no powers, he or she will be special too. The baby would be healthy, beautiful and very, very special.
If only Charlie knew how special her child would be.
Somewhere on Earth-38, someone slunk down into the chair at a desk in a house. They let out a heavy sigh and a groan.
"Ugh! This is never gonna work." The person uttered in frustration, "But it must. I have to get my hands on the twenty-fourth."
Hope you enjoyed. Leave a review if you liked it.
