C and V
C and V's relationship was complicated. Yes they both cared deeply about each other, but in the case of C growing up in Meteor City and taking his toll on him. So naturally there was some selfishness and things in his love for his younger sister.
V never blamed him.
When her mother died and no one had cared and no one had even cared because that was just what Meteor City was like, V had decided to screw everything in Meteor City. Because she was never, ever, ever going to treat death like a common companion, to kill for some junk, or become illiterate.
Her brother knew how to read too. He was a genius. A tryhard genius. Someone who went through the junk of the City to find paper for elders to read. Eventually he could read fluently. Because when he came back when V was 4 he was carrying a book.
He taught her basic Nen. He told her jokes. He told her he was going to get a castle. He said he was going to take her on an adventure.
The last two never came true.
Aanya didn't like thinking of Meteor City. It had made her hands thicker than leather. But that was the only thing that it had done for her.
Her mother had died when she was 2.
It was a mystery how a two year old had been able to make such a strong objective. It was also a mystery how a 1 and a half year old had learned how to crawl in dirty junk because if she couldn't do that then she was worthless to her family.
I suppose those are things that will always remain mysteries.
Aanya winced. Hoping to find that silly girl Neon soon she traveled quickly through the floors. Then she saw her with a man. She had fainted.
16 was still a little too young for any relationship.
"Shoo go away." Aanya frowned impolitely.
"Sorry sir-" Melody tried to reason.
"It's fine I'll leave." the man said looking flustered.
"Neon better be taken to her father immediately." Aanya sighed dialing a number.
"What this makes no sense! A man just told me that she had stormed away?"
"Then he was lying. I'm holding a real life Neon right now and she's fainted."
"Why has she fainted?"
"Dunno. All I knew was that a good-looking fellow was holding her. I daresay you ought to reign in your child a little more-" she was nudged harshly by Melody.
"What! Do you have that man with you?"
"No. He left in quite a hurry. Don't blame him for going with your daughter. Your childs a fine looking girl, her personality one the other ha-" Melody promptly snatched the phone from her.
"All we know is that we have Neon with us Sir."
"Bring her to the infirmary."
Aanya laughed, "I almost screwed up there didn't I?"
"I think so." Melody smiled ruefully.
After dropping Neon off at the infirmary, Kurapika arrived.
"Mr. Nostrade wanted me to watch Neon." he explained.
Then the pig man arrived. Zenji looked haughtily at Kurapika, "So you're backing out? Scared?"
Aanya sucked in air. Before yelling though she whispered to Light Nostrade, "Can I yell at him?" Neon's dad blinked, then nodded.
"I DON'T SEE YOU DOING ANYTHING ABOUT OUR CURRENT SITUATION DO I? SO YOU DO NOT HAVE ANY RIGHT TO MAKE ANY COMMENT. I'LL GIVE YOU A GUN AND WILL YOU HAVE THE GUTS TO FIGHT THE TROUPE? AND OF COURSE WITH YOUR INTELLIGENCE YOU THINK A BODYGUARD SHOULD JUST LEAVE THEIR MASTER UNPROTECTED AND UNCONSCIOUS."
"Wha- I-"
"Sorry Mr. Zenshi." Melody apologized.
"It's Zenji! Do you need to have your ears checked?" Zenji snapped.
"Maybe I need to have my ears checked too, cause I couldn't hear exactly what you said. After all, it was drowned out by a dog barking."
"You're really… saucy today Aanya." Melody noted.
"Perhaps."
Zenji with steam in his ears stormed away. Light Nostrade looked at her.
"He may be a little annoying but next time contain yourself."
"Yes sir." Melody glanced at Aanya.
"Yeah, I understand. You can trust Melody to look after Neon."
Light sighed, "Very well then."
Aanya left with Kurapika.
-A few moments later-
Kurapika looked emptily at the body's of the Phantom Troupe.
No triumph. No pride. Just emptiness.
Kurapika was drowning in an indescribable emptiness.
(Sorry I had to.)
Zenji approached him, "Even with your all great bluff of the Nostrade family what did you end up doing? Nothing."
Kurapika grabbed him by the neck impulsively, "Shut up. At this point, I don't care who I kill."
"Kurapika! Contain yourself!"
Kurapika's mind whirled in confusion. He let go of Zenji. The pig ran away strangely fast.
"What's wrong with you? More than half the Spider is dead! You should be happy! Now your mental state is even worse! You say 'I will get my clans eyes back' but it's just revenge is it?" Aanya screamed.
Kurapika opened his mouth, couldn't say anything, and stormed away. Aanya marched away behind him.
But shouldn't he feel happy? Shouldn't he be glad that the Troupe was dead?
-Aanya-
Someday Kurapika's mental state was going to be the end of him. It was almost as bad as-
Aanya coughed. She opened the listening device she had placed on the man with Neon. Neon was a priority.
But
Kurapika and Melody had been kind to her. Neon had been...problematic to say the least.
So shouldn't she be trying to save them? That's not what she's getting paid for though.
However, she had been getting paid to kill people. She didn't do that anymore. Because she didn't want to. That day when she stood at her fathers grave for the first time after killing the target and all their bodyguards that might have killed Father, she cried.
Then she thought, 'you know even though I've been doing it for a long time, and I'm really good at it. I don't like killing.'.
I don't want to be a killer.
I thought that I had decided that a long time ago to force myself to feel sorrow for every life Meteor City took.
To refuse to be one of those lives. To screw any role that life had given me.
Then, out of her listening device she heard something curious.
"The spider will stay strong."
The spider. But why? That man was a Spider!
Aanya dashed towards the so-called bodies of the Troupe. There he was, supposedly dead.
The bodies must have been fake. Listening to the Spider member further, Aanya uncovered more information.
"Yes boss." some spider said.
Boss? That man was the leader of the Troupe? But the leader of the Spider could steal Nen abilities...oh no.
The Nostrades were going to have a tough surprise.
Tough luck. Aanya sighed and ran towards where Kurapika was supposed to be.
When she opened the door Kurapika was staring intensely at his phone with a white haired boy and another kid. They looked young, twelve max. But the white haired one was a killer of some sort.
"Oh hey. Just wanted to tell you that the bodies were fake."
"We just learned that. Who are you? You have to be an assassin of some sort. I can tell by the way you walked in."
"Oh yeah. You're too aren't you?"
"Used to."
"Me too! Anyways! How did you know?"
"She's not with the Troupe I promise." Kurapika assured them.
After getting to know Kurapika's friends, Killua and Gon, they decided to try to take down the Spider. Aanya didn't mind. She didn't really feel like killing but a girl did what she needed to do.
And hey, attacking the Troupe seemed kind of fun. The most notorious gang of thieves. A pretty darn risky ride. It still felt kind of wrong to a certain degree.
Killua was a killer. Kurapika was too. So was Aanya. Sure the Troupe didn't care for human lives but wasn't that the environment of Meteor City? If most people in the Troupe were Meteor City residents it was natural to have this mindset.
Does those morals mean that Melody, Aanya and C should never have been born because from their origin death was a companion and murder was as normal as air?
Aanya shook those thoughts off. None of that mattered. Some people should die.
And yet when she was an assassin she still felt a little pain as her target dropped to the floor dead. Not much.
She had been bullied when she was 4. Meteor City made their children grow too fast. To viciously.
She remembered her brother killing all 5 of the children bullying her. Telling her he was going to protect her. She remembered grinning standing in the blood of those children.
The one time death happened and she didn't feel pain.
She hated the feeling and smell of blood. Because she remembered crawling in her mothers blood and looking at her body telling mother to wake up.
She didn't know that her mother was dead.
She didn't know that she had just become the only girl in the family.
She didn't know that C was going to run away that day leaving her alone with…
Monster.
