[Just a quick update. I made some edits to the previous chapters. If you want to know what they were then you can just scroll to the author's note on those chapters. Anyway, sorry to keep you waiting, on with the story.]

Zoroark: Pretty Meh at Illusions

Chapter 3:

Protective

As I went to bite down on the man's neck I heard a voice cry out. "No!"

I stopped and turned to face my mother who was reaching out with horror on her face. My expression softened and I looked down at the man who had a look of pure terror and I realised what I was about to do.

I was just about to hurt someone! Maybe even kill!

I looked back down at him and saw the look in his eyes. In the corner of my eye I saw he was reaching for his knife which had been knocked out of his hand. I growled at him and he stopped reaching for the knife. Lisa then ran outside and saw the situation. "I'll call the police." She went back inside.

My mum went and carefully picked the knife up and threw it off to the side and further out of the man's reach. Although she seemed to be uneasy around not just the man… but me as well. My own mother… afraid of me. Of course she would be, in that moment she didn't see her son, she saw only a feral animal.

Every time the man tried to struggle I pinned him down harder and gave off a threatening growl. As much as I hated the fear in my mum's eyes, this man had just tried to hurt her. And no one hurts my family, especially my mother. However, at one point he gained his confidence.

"See? You're just an abomination." The man shouted. "A feral beast who has no control. That's what all of you freaks are! Animals!"

"Stop it!" I barked at the man, I could feel my eyes start to water. 'But he's telling the truth, is he not?'

I heard the sound of a police siren in the distance as a police car drew nearer.

I accidentally loosened my grip which allowed the man to break free. He tore me off of him and scrambled towards the knife. Everything seemed to move in slow motion as he charged at me with the blade.

I then felt something within me. Not the blade though, thankfully. It was some sort of energy. Whatever it was, it made the man freeze in place. His face turned into one of horror and he slowly dropped his knife.

He slowly stepped back and tripped over. I got up and at that moment a police car pulled up and two officers rushed out and came up to us.

"We got a call about an assault. Which way did he go?" One of the officers asked

I pointed at the man. "There." I growled out.

"That guy?" Asked the officer. I nodded. "Cuff him." He told his partner.

His partner nodded and the man snapped his head towards the officer as he was grabbed. "No, please! Get away from me!" The man struggled and the police had some difficulty in subduing him but they did eventually. The man began begging and crying as they carried him away. "Please. No! Stay away!"

My mother was a bit confused but otherwise was pleased that he would be facing charges.

I, on the other hand, was worried. 'What happened to him? What caused him to stop?' but my worry was quickly gone. 'It doesn't matter. He tried to hurt my mother.'

As the police drove away after a small talk with my mother and Lisa who came outside once again and after taking the weapon, I noticed that there were some people who had been watching the whole thing. Some were on their phones, I assumed that they had just finished recording. Some tensed up after noticing that I was looking at them all. I looked down, slightly ashamed as I realised that my behaviour would end up on the internet, shown to the world of my complete lack of control.

But, if that's what it takes to protect someone who I care for deeply, then so be it. My mum came up to me carefully. "Are you okay?" She asked.

I nodded. I'm okay. There was no reason to say anything as she wouldn't've understood me anyway. "Are you sure?" She gently put a hand on my shoulder. I nodded once more. "Come, let's go home." I nodded again and she led me to the car which was very close.

"Let me know if you two need anything, okay?" Lisa came up next to my mother.

"Thank you, Lisa." My mother said.

"Anytime." Lisa walked back into her cafe.

As we drove home my mother looked at me as I had my animalistic eyes fixated in front of me. "I just wanted to say thank you." I glanced towards her and nodded. "Are you sure you're alright? You haven't said anything. Regardless of whether or not I can understand what you're saying."

I looked down. "You mean like this?" I said, gibberish to her coming out of my wolfish mouth.

"The reason is because it assures me that you're still you. That my boy is still in there."

"I see."

"You know what, after we get home why don't we go and do some research on your new looks, hm?"

I looked over to her and nodded. "Yeah, sounds like a useful idea."

She smiled.

Once we arrived home we saw another car in the driveway. It was dad's! My eyes lit up with excitement. "David, remember. Your father may still be a little on edge, okay?"

I nodded in understanding. It makes sense that someone would be a little nervous if their son turned into a weird bipedal fox.

I stepped out of the car and went over to the front door with my mum following behind. I shakily turned the door handle. 'What if he freaks out? I mean, sure he saw me before but that was when I was unconscious.'

I didn't realise that I had frozen and already turned the door knob all the way. "David? Are you okay?" My mum put her hand on my shoulder which I jumped slightly at, accidentally pushing the door open as well.

I nodded. "I'm okay." Why am I so scared to face my dad? He's pretty chill normally.

"I didn't mean to worry you so much, okay?" She said.

"It's okay."

"Darling? Are you home!? Is David with you!?" I heard my dad's voice from inside.

"Yes! I'm home and David's with me!" My mum said back. I heard the sound of footsteps and I saw my dad come from around the corner. My dad was on the tall side with a medium length ginger beard and a black button up shirt. He had a bit of an athletic build but not too much of one and his eyes were blue.

"David, son? Are you okay?" He asked.

I nodded slowly. "I'm okay."

We looked at each other for a bit then suddenly heard the sound of… hooves? A small flaming horse stumbled around the corner.

"Rachael?" The small horse had an excited look on their face "Cousin David! Aunty Linda!" It ran up to me and jumped on top of me. Although since it caught me off guard it knocked me down.

"Oof. I see you've gotten a bit bigger there, Rachael." I commented. Before she was maybe a little small for her age but now she's about a three foot tall, I guess pony.

"Rachael, no!" I heard another voice shout, it was male. It was Jack's voice. The small horse, Rachael was taken off my chest. I could see that Jack had grabbed a struggling Rachael.

"Put me down!" Rachael yelled.

"What did we say about jumping on people!?"

Rachael sighed and relaxed. "To not jump on them." She said in a bored tone.

"Now say sorry." Jack told Rachael after putting her down.

"I'm sorry." Rachael said with the same tone.

"Just because I can't understand you doesn't mean I can't hear your tone."

A blue furry thing with a spike in its chest also walked around the corner. It was the same one as what was shown in the photo. "Uncle Caleb?" I asked.

"Oh, David!" Said the blue thing which I remember was called a Lucario. "Got a new haircut?" He asked.

I huffed in amusement. "I see not much has changed with you. Apart from… well." I motioned to his general direction.

"Haha! That is true." He approached me. "Come on, give your Uncle a hug!"

I happily accepted, giving my good ol' uncle a hug. "Ow!" I quickly reeled back.

"Oh, sorry! I forgot about my spike, are you okay?"

"Yeah I'm fine." I said rubbing my chest where I was jabbed. Second time today I was almost stabbed. Luckily the pain was fading quickly.

"Why don't we all sit down in the living room?" I heard my dad say.

"Yes, it's better than in the middle of the hallway and with the front door open for the world to see." Jack agreed.

So, this is the end of chapter 3, a long time coming, I know but I just got… distracted. I also saw a comment mention that this was a far more chill story in the Percentverse. The main reason behind that is because where it is set is one of the lesser affected areas in the universe.

Next chapter will be… something, I don't really have a plan for this story, but I hope it's still enjoyable! Well, that's not entirely true, I have plans for a few things to happen.

Again, please leave a review telling me what you think of it and maybe give me a few ideas as I do enjoy reading them, also feel free to let me know of any mistakes I've made and I'll see you guys next time.
