Disclaimer: I do not own anything related to The Vampire Diaries, TV show or books. However, I decided to have a little play around with the characters (I would definitely like to play with Damon).

I have replaced all of the chapters up until chapter 10 with modified versions to align them more towards TVD mythology. I have changed the nettle juice to vervain and mystifying to compulsion. The story was not initially meant to be a fanfic, which is why the mythology is different. I will also keep the method of turning the same for this story. Extended mythology is remaining and how compulsion and vervain work will differ slightly because of my story rules. My feelings are that the story is too far away from TVD mythology to really qualify as a TVD fanfic. If you have been reading the story and suddenly notice the changes, I have amended the first 10 chapters. This message will be posted on the first 11 chapters only. I hope this makes the story more enjoyable.

Damon spent the next two weeks reading Edmund Spicer's diaries and tracking his movements across Europe. Born in 1506, Edmund Spicer was the second son of the Earl of Hallamshire, and as such he had left England in 1515 to be educated at the Vatican with the intention of joining the church. His destiny changed two years later when his older brother William was killed in a riding accident. After that, Edmund was then the heir to the title and its lands. Instead of rushing back to join his father, Edmund opted to continue his studies, choosing law as he felt it would prove useful as he would be expected to join Henry's court after his father's death. He finished his degree, and was due to return when he learned of the rise of Lutheranism, a new religion which was taking hold across the continent. His father wrote to him and told him to stay in Europe and learn as much about the new religion as possible, probably on the behest of Thomas Boleyn who was a close friend of his father's. By this time, Anne had already caught Henry's eye and Thomas was scheming to make his daughter Queen, probably to further his own ambitions rather than out of love for his daughter. Back then the sole purpose for a daughter was to marry someone well connected to improve ones own standing and gain more power and wealth. Thomas Boleyn was an extremely ambitious man who cared little for his daughters. Damon wondered if Thomas was even upset after Anne lost her head. The more Damon read, the more he learned how much information Edmund had been feeding to his father using coded letters. He even found Edmund's code in the back of one of the diaries, clearly kept to hide their religious discussions as the Earl could have been in very serious trouble had he been discovered in possession of the religious teachings of Martin Luther.

Much of the contents reminded Damon of his own life as a human and early beginnings of vampirism. Damon was born in 1493, the illegitimate son of Rodrigo Borja, who went on to become Pope Alexander VI. His mother was only a maid, her lack of status meant Damon had to be kept hidden from the gossip of the time. This was foundation for his own hatred of the Catholic church, that and being sent to a monastery at a young age to be educated. His father had provided well for Damon, although he was never acknowledged. As a result he inherited a large sum of money at the age of 18. With the money, Damon bought some land in Dorset and built a large house, he went on to marry a local beauty called Sarah Greenlefe, daughter of a local Yeoman. Damon's disdain for god and religion deteriorated further in 1517 when his wife and child died while he was away on business in Oxford. Once he became a vampire, he had no faith whatsoever, although he did become interested in how religion could create wealth, thus allowing him to understand his father a little more, and his hatred for the man grew even further. He himself had followed the Lutheranism movement across Europe in a similar fashion to Edmund, allowing him to have a connection with the man who he was going to become for the next two years. Although their motives differed, Damon and Edmund shared a common hatred for the Catholic church, borne out of their distaste for the methods of education (whipping was a common occurrence for both of them).

Throughout Damon's studies, he had been trying to find a common ground with Edmund, to understand his motives and find some insights into his personality and interests. Religious dealings aside, Edmund was a gambler and already a notorious lothario. These were qualities Damon could easily identify with as he wasn't too different in that department. Damon suspected this may have been what had led to his role of what Damon was now calling Chief Pimp of the Gentleman's Privy Chamber.

All the time Damon had spent studying the life of Edmund Spicer, Bonnie had been missing. Esther had explained the spell to turn change Bonnie from a witchbinder into a time witch was extremely powerful and exhausting. It was not a spell Bonnie could perform alone, Esther herself had to use her own magic to fuel the transformation. The change would also mean Bonnie would no longer age at the rate of a normal human woman, instead she would live to be around four times her expected human age. The magic was so powerful, Bonnie had to be kept isolated for a week to ensure there were no distractions from the spell. After that she would need time to rest her magic, allowing her powers to grow. Esther also needed to rest her magic. Time spells were some of the most powerful spells to create, and Esther was going to need all of her strength to send Damon back to 1530.

Only when Bonnie had finished her transition and had rested, did Damon see her again. They'd had no contact since the day they'd talked in the pub, which meant Damon had become lonely, so he had travelled to London to see his vampire friend Enzo and go to some clubs. Damon decided this was a last minute treat as it would be another 2 years before he could return to the hedonistic lifestyle of drugs, clubs and sex. Damon had managed to hook up with 4 girls over the weekend and even managed to make a snack of one, although he did heal her so she remembered nothing of it. Enzo was aware of Damon's job as he had been considering joining for a while. Thus Damon had to explain to Enzo he was on a mission which would last around 2 years and that their partying would not be an option until he returned. He also wanted to recruit Enzo to MI666 to keep an eye on Bonnie while he was away. Not that he worried about her safety, but because she was his best friend and he wanted to make sure she wasn't lonely herself. After promising Enzo Esther would grant him any car he wanted, he had agreed to talk to Esther once Damon had gone on his mission.

When Damon waked into the office the morning after his busy weekend, he was greeted by a smiling Bonnie, who looked like she'd just spent a relaxing weekend at a Spa. He had never seen her look so happy and invigorated. Damon's super-senses could identify a change in her scent. A time-witch had a different odour to that of any other witch, something he suspected was related to the changes in her hormones. Bonnie's physical appearance seemed younger, fresher, more vibrant. He had never seen a witch transform before and although the subtleties would be lost on the human eyes, to a vampire they changes were glaringly obvious.

"Well you look different." Damon frowned. "New haircut?" he asked jokingly.

"Actually yes." Bonnie smiled in surprise, not expecting Damon to notice any changes in her appearance.

"It suits you." Damon nodded, trying to pretend he'd been serious about her hair before changing the subject. "How are the new witchy powers coming along?"

"I cannot practice much." she admitted. "I have to send something back a day to a specific location and then see if I can find it. Every day I am sending things further away and further back in time. But so far, everything has been retrieved." Bonnie frowned at Damon, only now noticing the changes to his appearance. "What has happened to your face. You've got man-fur." she laughed. Bonnie hated beards, she claimed men with beards were not nice to kiss, therefore she referred to them as man-fur.

Damon rubbed his chin and grimaced. "I hate it." he complained. "It itches, and it just feels wrong. I haven't had one since Elizabethan times, so as you can imagine it is a bit of an unpleasant change. How am I going to scare people with a beard? I mean, nobody will see my fangs." Damon opened his mouth and his features suddenly changed. His eyes became glassy, the colour blue was almost opaque. His features seemed to become more accentuated. Damon opened his mouth to show Bonnie his normally long and terrifying looking fangs. However, now they were covered with facial hair. Bonnie laughed out loud.

"Oh my god, now I know why vampires don't have beards. They're not scary without them." she snorted with laughter as Damon's face returned to normal and he began to pout.

"I'm going to the barbers tomorrow." Damon told her, going on the defensive. "I thought I'd try a Jon Snow look, you know, Game of Thrones." he added, rubbing his chin thoughtfully. "I'm sure it will be appreciated by the ladies of the court. When I asked what type of beard would be best, that was the main suggestion. I suspect it has something to do with not giving women a rash." he shrugged, which didn't help Bonnie's laughing fit.

"Did you lose your pulling power?" she coughed, tears were now rolling down her cheeks. The rarity of being able to take the piss out of Damon was becoming too much for her to handle.

"Four." Damon smirked.

"It's usually double that." Bonnie shook her head, before grabbing a tissue and wiping the tears from her eyes. "I've seen it all, Damon Salvatore emasculated by a beard." Bonnie's laughter however, was suddenly cut short when Esther appeared at the door.

"We need to start to make preparations. Damon's beard is not the height of my concern right now. Although he may have to up his game in the seduction skills." she said tersely.

"Okay." Damon said slowly, glancing over to Bonnie who was trying her hardest not to laugh.

"We've got more important things to consider." Esther explained. "Damon, you will be leaving us in a week, so we need for you to get to grips with the equipment we are sending you with. So I need you to follow me to the labs. Both of you." she added.

Damon and Bonnie got up and left the office, following Esther the five minute walk to what was known as the labs. There were two sets of labs, one was the prefab block, which from the outside looked like it would be easy to break into. However, it was spelled to look like that, internally, the windows were blocked up in half of the rooms, which were spelled to prevent anyone from breaking in. The other set of labs was the old sixth form science block, which apart from being spelled to keep out any unwanted visitors, hadn't changed a great deal from its time as a school. All of the equipment had been retained as experiments were commonplace. However, much of it had been modernised and it was far more secure than its time as a school. Both standard scientific experiments, alongside combined science and magic were performed here. The building was referred to as the science block. The classrooms which had previously not been used for science had been converted into offices, or been turned into additional science rooms like their old counterparts.

Stefan Mikaelson was the head of the science team. He was 227 years old vampire who had a passion for science. He couldn't take part in many missions as he was already connected to Valerie, who in an unusual twist of fate, was born a witch, but had since turned into a vampire. When she turned, her magic didn't entirely disappear, however it was significantly weaker, and she could only draw on water, air and earth to perform magic. There were essential parts which constituted to giving a witch their power, these were earth, air, water and fire. Every witch had access to all of these instruments of manipulation. There were witches who had additional powers which included being able to draw power from celestial events and call upon the spirits of dead witches. Witches who could draw energy from all areas were called witchbinders. Those like Valerie had been before her transformation, were called elemental witches. Losing the skill to draw on fire had put Valerie at a huge disadvantage in being able to maximise her skills for standard spells, therefore she opted to try and apply what she could to standard chemistry. She was still able to make potions as fire could be made using other means to help with this type of witchcraft. On the other hand, she had gained some vampiric skills, although she was much weaker than any other 164 year old vampire. Her strength was like that of a vampire a tenth of her age. The combination of vampire and witch skills, did mean Valerie had a unique skill set. Like Stefan, she had a passion for scientific study, and as such, they were probably the most skilled scientific minds in the world, yet forever to be hidden in the shadows. Fortunately for MI666, they enjoyed their work and were extremely loyal. They also went on occasional missions when a married couple would be more appropriate than someone like Damon. Their strength was their creativity when it came to adapting real world items to be used in the world of magic.

The other scientist who worked in the labs was Vincent Griffiths. He along with Stefan would work together on changing small everyday items like microchips and adding an extra layer to them to be able to do more than they were built to do. Even minor things like extending the battery life on a phone weren't out of the realms of experiments. However, Valerie's lab was slightly different. Her speciality was altering chemical processes using a combination of human and magical sciences, mainly focused on the body. As this was their first stop, Damon had a feeling he knew what they were going to be discussing, as it was the part he'd been dreading, vervain and how they were going to use it on him.

Damon and Bonnie sat at the end of the desk, waiting for Valerie to go through what magical chemistry she had concocted when the door opened and in walked Dr. Jo Laughlin, the team doctor. Bonnie and Damon looked at each other with concern as needing a human Doctor (who also happened to be a witch) around a vampire was never a good sign.

"What's going on?" Damon asked nervously. "Why is Jo here?

"Hi Damon." Jo smiled. "I'm going to have to perform some minor procedures. Nothing to worry about, just things to help you while you are out of the office."

Damon looked at Esther suspiciously. "Esther, please explain."

"Damon." Stefan interjected. "Look, you're going back to a place with no access to the things we today take for granted."

"I know, unlike the rest of the people in this room, I was there before." Damon snapped.

"Just because the technology doesn't exist, doesn't mean we don't want you to have it." Esther said, giving Damon a dark look. "This is a team effort."

"We want to be able to provide you with as much remote help as possible." Stefan explained. "So to do that we need to be able to contact you."

"You mean text, phone or email?" Damon frowned.

"We will have a means of communication." Esther smiled.

"But as you are aware, there is no electricity or Wi-Fi in 1530, which means we will have to use an alternative method." Stefan explained.

"I take it the experiments on extending battery life worked." Damon smiled.

"They worked perfectly." Stefan corrected him. "We've just managed to extend the battery life to over 3 years without it affecting performance."

"So why is Jo here?" Damon asked.

"Smart gadgets are normally useless without some form of Wi-Fi or Bluetooth. So we've had to create a magical alternative. Vincent has adapted the relevant technology to link the gadgets together. Microchips have been inserted into whatever technology you need and will link directly to you, or to the time chest."

"I don't speak IT witch. I need layman's terms." Damon raised an eyebrow.

"Your gadgets in the past will be linked to our gadgets here in the present. The communications side will be operated by a portable magic Wi-Fi which is designed to work without the need for modern technology as it is powered by magic, and the time chest will be linked using a magical Bluetooth type technology to transfer objects through time. Now it isn't really Wi-Fi or Bluetooth, but that is the simplest explanation I can give, in layman's terms." Stefan added.

"What's a time chest?" Damon frowned.

"We will show you when we are ready." Esther sighed. "It's not quite finished."

"This technology will allow you to text us or send emails." Stefan explained. "I'm afraid calls are not an option, as we don't have the time before you leave to adapt the technology. However we will be able to keep in touch at all times. We will provide you with a tablet which will be disguised as a book. This way you can send messages to us. We can keep an eye on your comings and goings. Don't worry, only you will know what it is."

"So what is the time chest? Damon asked again.

"It will look like a writing desk in the style of a Spanish bargueño. There are multiple drawers inside. Many of which will house your day to day work requirements for the King. However, there will be some drawers which will be linked to the office. It is through these drawers that we will send whatever is required." Esther replied.

"Things required?" Damon asked suspiciously.

"You will require a daily dose of vervain, or blood bags." Valerie told him. "There will be other medications which may be needed, the fertility tonic for instance."

"There is another Spanish bargueño identical to yours which will remain here." Esther explained. "They are a twin set, linked by various spells. When we place the item we wish to send to you in a drawer, it will appear in the corresponding drawer on the other bargueño."

"This is all good, but it still doesn't explain why Jo is her." Damon looked around the room for an answer. Fortunately Stefan decided to speak.

"To allow the communications between the tablet and the office, there needs to be a supernatural router. It needs to be portable and invisible. The only way we can do that is to insert it inside you." he grimaced, knowing Damon wasn't going to like it.

"Where?" Damon asked.

"I your brain." Jo told him. "It will disintegrate after 3 years without pain. I also need to give you some eye treatment to allow you to see the tablet." she said.

"Um, I'm not like the sound of this." Damon stood up.

"Don't worry, you won't feel a thing, we can always put you under." Esther smiled.

"I can't have him awake while I'm inserting the chips into his retinas." Jo told Esther. "I can't risk movement." she turned to Damon. "We'll sedate you firstly with a high dose of vervain, then we will use a normal anaesthetic like we use on humans. The surgery is straightforward. It is an adaption of standard surgical procedures already in current use. I am fine performing the eye surgery, however inserting the chip in the brain is using almost the same technology as coiling an aneurysm. They usually feed platinum into the brain via the femoral artery in the groin. Only a handful of doctors in the UK can perform the surgery and Mr Khan is a leading expert in the field." she smiled. "The procedure will differ slightly, but the skillset required to perform the surgery is well within Mr Khan's capability."

"He knows what I am?" Damon frowned.

"No." Jo shook her head. "But he will be briefed and then compelled, given a nice little tax free payment courtesy of Her Majesty and be sent back up to Sheffield." she smiled. "Speaking of which, does she know about my mission?" he asked. "And does she want me to bring anything back?"

Damon had known the Queen since she was a young Princess. He had tried to seduce her, but the young Elizabeth only had eyes for Prince Phillip, which even to this day had never changed. Damon had even considered challenging Phillip to a fight as he didn't think the Prince was worthy of her, but over the years, Damon had come to like the now Duke of Edinburgh. Damon's huge crush on her, even as she aged, had never truly abated he still had a love for her. When he saw her, to him she was still the young girl he met at the end of the war, celebrating in the streets with everyone else, going completely unnoticed. His love for her was part of the reason for his loyalty to the job. The senior royals were aware of the department and those who worked in it, although they only ever saw the faces of Damon and Esther. This knowledge was the reason why Damon had asked if the Queen wanted a souvenir from history.

"The chip inserted into your eye will contain a nano-camera with sound recording." Esther grinned. "It will allow you to send videos back. Seeing and hearing the real court of Henry VIII is more valuable to not only us, but the the Queen herself, than any jewel." she said. "there are so many unanswered questions, which we will get a glimpse into. Seeing history in action will be greater than putting man on the moon."

"She just wants to see and hear Henry?" Damon frowned, surprised by the request. "I didn't know she was so keen. Does that mean the video will be working at all times? I mean, am I supposed to be filming my wedding night? I'm not usually into kinky stuff like that without consent."

"You can only record when the camera is activated. You will be provided with a ring which will act as a record button, so to speak." Stefan told him. "You will get an infantry of good and how they will work once you've had the surgery, they won't make any sense until you do."

"Why not?" Damon asked.

"Because until you've had surgery, they won't look like what they are supposed to look like." Stefan told him. "The tablet will look like an old book, only a witch with a connection to it can see it. Even I can't see it, to me it will just look like a book, which is why Vincent will have to show you how it works. The same applies with the camera."

"The technology requires you to come online before we can go through all of the technical training. So the sooner you consent, the better." Esther piped up, handing Damon a consent form.

"Why do I need this?" Damon frowned. "It's not like it will kill me."

"It is an invasion of your privacy." Esther explained. "Just because we are supernatural, doesn't mean that we are exempt from basic human rights." Damon raised an eyebrow at this comment. "As far as the government are concerned, he have the same rights as the rest of the civil service and thus anything which invades our privacy without authority is a breach of civil liberties and I won't be doing my job." she insisted. "So bloody well sign, otherwise I'll knock you unconscious." she added, handing Damon a pen.

"So much for civil liberties." he sighed as he signed his name on the dotted line. "So, when do we start?" he asked.
