Finding Anna:

At The Lake:

The next morning came bright and early. Tyler grabbed his small bag that he always took with him and I grabbed my purse. I stayed out of uniform for the time being because I figured if we were going out on the water, there was no way I was going in uniform. We headed out to his truck, which was attached to the boat trailer. The boat was on the trailer, having been on the trailer since the last person rented it. It was a good way to pay the rent where he lived because everyone was always renting it from him, whether it be for the day or for the weekend.

With the police force renting for the week, they were paying him up front just in case something happened on the lake. And with the two of us knowing what could happen on the lake, he wasn't taking any chances of something going wrong. I would be driving my own truck since his truck had to stay hooked up to the trailer. By the time we were ready to pull out, it was nearly seven o'clock.

When we got to the lake, everyone including the 15th was already there, though the members of the 15th were in uniform. I parked my truck and got out. I helped Tyler back up and get the boat off the trailer and then truck and trailer parked next to my truck before we headed over to the others. Detective Jablonsky spoke up before any of the 15th could say anything.

"Jess, Tyler, so nice of you to help in the investigation. I've already briefed the 15th on what your duties are to include. Now, Jess, do you mind going over what happened that day. Tyler has already been kind enough to say that he would help. So how about it?"

"We can show you where we went under on a map, but we are not going out onto the lake."

"Why not? There is nothing to be scared of."

"Do you not take the submerged town and the evil that lives in it seriously at all?"

"It is a legend Jess, there is no truth to it at all."

"You weren't there detective. You didn't nearly die trying to hold onto your sister as you were dragged deeper and deeper into the abyss. You weren't there. We will not go out onto the lake and that is final."

"Fine, but we'll still need to know where you went under at."

"Fine, but it will be a map that you are shown on."

"Alright. And the boat will be rented for the week. I believe we agreed that Tyler would be paid in full the minute it was in the water."

"Yes, the total amount comes to $2,500 for the week as well as the weekend."

"God damn, boy, that's robbery." Detective Callaghan said finally speaking up as the rest of the 15th walked up to us.

"No, it's not. It's my boat. Other people around town rent it out. I need it to stay in good condition so that I can keep paying my rent. Renting the boat out is how I pay rent. Besides, this isn't the first time the police department has rented the boat. They know my prices."

"Of course they do. And you, Jess, you should have told us that you were related to Anna. You would have stayed back in Toronto."

"Yeah, but if she had stayed in Toronto, she wouldn't have been able to help like we want her to help. She and Tyler are going to have to go over every detail of that day and the aftermath of the accident if we are to finally solve this case."

"How old were you when the accident happened Jess?" McNally asked.

"Twelve, Anna was six. We were practicing for an upcoming competition and wanted our routine to be perfect."

"Routine, what kind of routine? And what kind of competition?" Swarek asked.

"We used to competitively pairs skate. We were each other's partners so we would practice on the lake when it froze over in the winter. The two of us were good, but after the accident, I gave it up. Tyler and I haven't been out on the lake since neither."

"And the days following the accident? What of those do you remember?" Detective Barber asked.

"I don't. Those questions are better suited for Tyler. I was in the ICU for two weeks with a tube down my throat and heating blankets keeping me alive. I was technically dead for a half hour after they pulled me from the water. Tyler knows more about the days after the accident then I do."

"What about your parents? They must have been with you while you were in the hospital and once you got out."

"They were and when I was fully healed, they kicked me out and to Toronto. They said that they wished I had died and Anna had lived. So they aren't high on the list of suspects or anything like that. The only suspect we know of lives in the old town submerged in the lake. The monster that haunts the lake is what killed Anna and tried to take me with. Trust me, if you can kill it, this little town might actually get some visitors."
