Several hours passed and Delta still hadn't returned, which was making Scotty concerned. Had Lexie seen him?
Scotty decided to asked the computer once again to locate Delta.
"Computer: Locate Lieutenant Delta." Scotty called, but the door to his room suddenly opened and in flew Delta.
As per normal, the little guy had impeccable timing. It was almost as if he knew when his name had been spoken.
Scotty smiled at the tiny robot, "Computer: Cancel request. What took ya so long lad?"
Delta landed gently on the desk and placed the scanner down next to him.
"Sorry, Lexie walked in when I was about to start scanning." Delta answered.
"She didn't see what you were doing right?" Scotty asked quickly, if she had then this gift wasn't going to be a surprise.
Even though his idea was completely out of the box, Lexie was smart enough to figure it out, he had no doubt about that.
She was like the 23rd century version of Sherlock Holmes, she could solve almost anything.
Delta shook his head, "No she didn't see, I hid the scanner when I heard her come in and I waited for her to leave."
That was a huge relieve for the Scotsman, "Good job lad, take it you got the photo?" Delta nodded as he pointed to the scanner.
"Yep, all scanned for you. I also scanned a few other photos Lexie had, just in case you decide you want them later."
"Sometimes I think you can read minds Delta, thanks." Scotty said as he plugged the scanner into his computer.
"Do you need me for anything else?" "No, thanks again lad. You should head off to find Lexie, she'll be looking for ya."
Delta nodded before he flew out of the room, he was even more curious as to what the Scotsman was making.
Scotty began to look through the photos that Delta had kindly scanned for him, it wasn't long till he found the one he needed.
"Wow, the lass looks so much like her mother." Scotty muttered as he stared at the photo.
He quickly replicated the photos and set to work finishing his gift, he knew it would take a while and time was running out.
Scotty only stopped working when he got a visit from Keenser, which the little guy did every Christmas Eve.
"You can come in laddie, you don't need to stand in the hallway." Scotty stated as he walked back over to his desk.
Keenser quickly entered the room and walked over to the desk, to see what his friend was working on.
He grunted something while he pointed to the mess which Scotty was holding, "That's Lexie's gift or at least it will be."
Scotty then placed the mess of parts down and turned to face Keenser, "You finished for tonight then?"
Keenser nodded, "Yes." "You gonna head to bed now?" Scotty asked, mainly since he could see Keenser's eyes slowly closing.
"Yes." The little alien replied, rubbing his eyes as he answered. Scotty smiled as he patted him on the shoulder.
"Off you go then lad, you look completely knackered." Scotty said sweetly, he knew Keenser worked himself too hard.
Once again Keenser nodded, "Goodnight." He said as he gave Scotty a gentle hug, "Goodnight wee man, sleep well."
Scotty waited until his friend had left the room and the door closed completely to continue working.
This was going to take some time, so he poured himself a glass of scotch. Maybe not the best idea in the world.
But, hey! It was Christmas after all, drinking was basically in the rules of how to celebrate the holiday.
Well, it was if you're Scottish. Which of course Scotty was.
By the early hours of Christmas Day, Scotty had finally finished his last minute project.
"Finally, its done." He muttered as he lent back in his chair, staring at his alarm clock.
02:38. Scotty somehow believed it was much later than that.
He then grabbed his newly forged gift and placed it in a box, one he had replicated while he was working.
After that Scotty slowly rose from his desk and went straight to bed, falling asleep as soon as his head hit the pillow.
Dam he was so tired, he was getting to old to be staying up to the wee hours of the morning. At least that's what he thought.
