Winners, Losers, and Wine
The wedding was beautiful. Phoebe was gorgeous. Fin was… well Fin. Cool as a cucumber and ready to commit to one woman. His first partner in Narcotics. Olivia wasn't sure she would ever see the day Fin would be officially off the market. She was happy for them. After all the baggage they both had personally and professionally, they deserved to be happy.
She loved weddings but they also were a reminder that it had never happened for her. She was still learning to be ok with that. When she was younger, engagement, marriage, babies, were things she just thought were going to happen at some point. But her job always came first and for a long time that's what she wanted. She was the job. Always the job. A small part of her feared she wasn't built for all those things normal people had.
As her partnership with Elliot grew and turned… more complicated, she realized the years were passing her by. But it was ok, she had other things. She was married to the job and in a lot of ways married to Elliot. She got parts of him he never let anyone have. She gave everything to him, everything within those walls they built.
It wasn't until after he left her that she realized just how much she gave him. He left a hole in her heart, her mind, her soul, that no one could ever fill. It was like he died, and she was left a widow seeing his ghost everywhere she turned. She didn't know how to grieve him. She struggled for a long time, and to be honest she was still navigating through her feelings until the day she heard him call her name. She was now struggling again, but in a new way. Being confronted with her feelings from back then, and in those ten years apart all at once was… challenging.
During the ceremony she begun to feel her mind reel with the reality of it all, when she saw Phoebe and Fin standing there, committing to a life together. Until, as if he was reading her mind, he put his arm around her chair, leaned in moving a few strands of hair from her ear and whispered, "She has nothing on you…" then she could swear he lingered for a second to nuzzle her neck.
Hearing those words drip off his lips, the vibration of his low voice in her ear, and his breath on her skin snapped her back to reality. This new reality. A reality where Elliot was whispering dangerous things in her ear. A reality where he was sitting right next to her, not in a dream or a ghost of his presence, but right here next to her, looking at her like she was the only one in the room.
She physically trembled at his closeness, and his brazenness to do something so intimate in front of basically everyone they knew. He left his arm around her chair, slowly rubbing circles with his thumb on her bare arm.
She heard Rollins clear her throat behind her. Well, she thought, that's going to be a conversation I don't want to have later.
The rest of the ceremony all she could think about was his hand on her skin. Elliot's hand on her skin.
She needed a drink.

After it was official, everyone cheered and made their way through the receiving line. Olivia noticed Elliot pulled Fin in for a hug and said something to him in a low tone she couldn't understand. Fin responded to him with "Well it's about damn time man…" She made a mental note to ask him what that was all about.
Next stop… the open bar. She was unsure if mixing alcohol with the natural buzz Elliot was causing her body to feel was a good idea or not, but she needed something to take the edge off.
Hors d'oeuvres were making their way around and between Olivia and Elliot there wasn't many people the didn't know. Everyone was mingling and finding their seat.
They found their table, he pulled out her chair for her and said he'd be back with drinks. The second he left Amanda was at her side.
"So uh, beautiful ceremony wasn't it…" she said with her eyes wide and a small smile on her face.
"Yes, it was." Olivia said taking a breath of air that wasn't intoxicated with his presence. She thanked the waiter that came around filling the water glasses and took a big swallow.
"Looks like Carisi and I are at your table." She said, and Olivia nodded.
"So… what's up with you and Stabler? Did you come here together?" Amanda said wasting no time getting into it.
"Uh, yes actually" She said.
"And…" Amanda said coyly.
Trying hard to look at anything other than Amanda's questioning stare, there was a moment of pause between the two. Amanda was waiting for Olivia to fill in the blanks, but Olivia wasn't in the mood to divulge such… private information. Not yet anyway.
This was all so new, and she didn't feel like anyone would, or could for that matter, understand all the years and layers of complication laced between them. If this really was… something… if something was really changing between them, then she wanted to keep it between them. For now.
Deep down she was waiting for the other shoe to drop. There was always something. A case, their partnership, him being married, his kids, her morality. But now…
She took another deep breath and meet Amanda's gaze. She smiled slowly and said, "A story for another time."
Just as fate would have it, Elliot returned to the table with two glasses of red wine. Handed one to Olivia and looked at Rollins.
"Can I get you something?" He asked, gesturing to the bar.
"Nah, Carisi has that covered. Matter of fact I'm gonna go see if he needs any help. Nice to see you again Stabler."
"Elliot…" he stated. "Call me Elliot." And smiled.
Rollins smiled back, nodded and looked at Olivia. "Captain" she said and left to go find Carisi.
Elliot looked down. "So, what was that about?" He said moving in closer to her with his upper body.
"Recon." Olivia said with a lift of her right eyebrow. She made the mistake of looking up at him. He was so close now, and his eyes were locked with hers. He was about to say something to her when they both heard their names and looked to see an old familiar face.
"Olivia! Elliot! Well, if it isn't two of favorite people." Said John Munch. They both smiled with surprised looks on their faces.
"Didn't see you at the ceremony." Elliot said shaking Munch's hand.
"Ah come on now, did you think I would miss this? I snuck in the back right before it started, "he said, "Liv, he's not harassing you, is he?"
She laughed and darted her eyes to Elliot who had a grin on his face. "No, but I might need your assistance later."
Elliot feigned shock and said "Oh come on Liv, I've been behaving… " then when Munch turned to greet another guest passing by, Elliot leaned back in so close she could almost feel his lips on her ear when he said, "but you make it so hard to be good…" Her eyes closed at his words and she had to suppress her urge to moan.
She caught the smug look on his face as he sat down, one that told her he knew what he was doing. Ok… she thought. Two can play at this game.
"I'll be back, better get in line for this open bar." Munch said. "Keep a place for me on your dance card Liv."
She smiled and laughed as he walked away. Olivia looked at the two wine glasses. "When did you start drinking red wine?" She asked, turning to Elliot and playing with the necklace he couldn't keep his hands off.
His eyes darted to her fingertips, and then to her cleavage. She saw where he was looking and dropped her hand leaning forward, giving him an unencumbered view.
"Uh… I," he stumbled, swallowed and cleared his throat. Blinking and bringing his eyes to hers, he lifted his eyebrows trying to refocus on what she had asked him.
Her right brow raised, and the right corner of her mouth curled up slightly in a coy smile.
"Italy…" he managed to choke out. He grabbed one of the glasses and took a sip. She was trying to kill him he thought, and maybe he deserved that. He has done next to nothing to stifle his need to touch her or be near her since he picked her up, and now she was upping the ante. She wasn't going to play fair, and it was a game he didn't mind losing.
"They'd shoot you in Italy if you didn't drink red wine." He said trying to seem unaffected by her position.
"Oh" she said with a low throaty laugh. "I thought maybe you were trying to get me drunk and take advantage…" she flashed him a full smile.
That comment mixed with her beautiful smile hit him square in the groin and he immediately flushed, feeling his blood pump through his veins like a freight train.
Seeing the lust creeping up his face, she took her wine glass and put it to her lips, taking a slow sip, and then pursed her lips together and moaned "Hmmm… that's delicious." She ended her performance by swiping her tongue across the corner of her top lip before tugging her bottom one into her mouth with her teeth.
For a split second his desire to capture that lip between his teeth almost made him pull her flush to his body so he could claim those lips, but then the DJ started announcing the wedding party and he remembered where they were. His ears were ringing with that moan of hers. What he wouldn't do to elicit that sound again. Even as Fin and Phoebe made their entrance into the hall, all he could hear was that sound. He decided he was going to hear it again, but next time it wouldn't be the wine causing her pleasure.
