According to the mirror's word, I came back to the room every day, mostly late at night. Every day, the mirror told how he felt he was empowered. In the beginning, I was hopeful. And so it was for five years, but after that, the hope was replaced by anger. Until one day...
"How long will it take?!" I asked angrily.
"Patience, my queen."
"I'll die before I see my brother alive again!"
"Listen to me..."
"I don't listen to you anymore! It's the last time I'm coming back here!"
"We passed such a long way. Just a little more," he whispered.
Something in his whisper didn't let me leave the room, as almost as he weaved a spider web around me.
"How long?"
"How much your daughter is important to you?"
"I don't have one."
"Oh? Isn't the little princess your daughter ?"
"She's... the daughter of the previous queen," I bit my lip.
The king and I never in the best relationship, but we tried to have a male heir time and again, but all in vain. What queen or even a wife was I if I couldn't fulfill my designation as a woman? The king didn't say a word, but it was difficult to miss his disappointment. And around the castle, there were countless gossip mongers who talked about the beautiful but damaged queen. I was like a broken cuckoo clock, beautiful but useless.
"Don't you see her as your daughter"? He brought me back to present.
"I... love her like she was my own, but..." I sighed, trying to stop the tears from coming out "Maybe being a mother... is a more realistic wish rather than... revive the dead. There wait will be much shorter!"
Five years before I felt too young to be a mother, but the years and taking care of Snowhite did the trick. I was 20 already and Snowwhite was 12 already, almost a teenager. She was so close to spreading wings. What would I have after she'd marry? The man will probably dispose of me. I had nowhere to return.
"You're right, it's much easier," even though it sounded weird, the mirror sighed "Such magic can be granted in a moment!"
"Great!"
"But you need to bring the king here."
I knew it's madness to bring him to the only place he forbade me to enter. And besides, I didn't understand why it was needed/
"He doesn't need to know!"
"My magic only works here. If he doesn't come, I won't be able to grant your wish."
"Am I not enough?"
"And how will you help me?" the mirror chucked. "You're fertile. You are not the problem."
"But... the king has a daughter! And I... have nothing!"
"My power is limited to this room only but I see all. One time, when he rode on his horse, he fell. Because of this, he lost his Fertility. This is why he couldn't have another child with the previous king."
"And everyone blames me...!" This time, I let the tears out.
"The world is not fair, my queen. If it was, you would be married to an appropriate king, who loved you and your family would still be alive.
I fell on my knees and cried hard. I was mourning the happiness that would never be mine. How much I longed to hold a little baby in my arms. A boy, a girl, it didn't matter. But that was all I was for the king. A nanny.
"You deserve more," the mirror said, "much more."
And I listened to him like an idiot. A poison apple, it all that was needed. The next morning, the king did not open his eyes.
