Draco returned to their compartment, anger all over his face, followed by Crabbe and Goyle. Theodore looked up from the book he was reading. "Aww, looks like someone didn't find their hero on the Hogwarts Express." Draco gave him a glare which to Theodore looked like a whiny face. "I knew it was just some rumours. There's no way Harry Potter is on this train."

"For your information, there is Harry Potter present on this train and I found him." Draco made a disgusting face and said, "He was in a compartment with one of the Weasel boy. I tried to make him friends with me, but he rejected me. Can you imagine? He? Rejected me? Draco Malfoy? Who does he think he is? I bet Weasel is behind this. He wants to be famous by being Harry Potter's friend. I tried to warn him-"

"Let me guess, he threatened him?" Theodore asked the other two boys, who looked at each other and then at Draco.

"No, I did not. Goyle was the one being rude to him. He was about to eat his sweets, but Weasel's rat bit him. I had to pull the both of them out before they could embarrass me more in front of him." Draco said, looking at them. Theodore just rolled his eyes and continued reading his books.

Draco was happy that his friend and he all got into Slytherin, but only until the sorting hat announced Harry Potter a Gryffindor.

"Are you not happy to be at the Slytherin table?" Bloody Baron asked him.

Draco looked at him and said, "No… it's not that… I'm really proud to be here. I always wanted to be here. It's nothing." he looked down at his plate.

It looked like Bloody Baron wanted to say something but chose not to. Draco glimpsed Harry looking at him with a pleased expression, which made him angry.

After the feast and finding out that Dumbledore is mad, the Slytherin prefect took Draco and other first years to their dormitories. Draco shared his dorm with his friends and one boy named Blase Zabini.

Humiliated by Harry's rejection, Draco spent the following days showing off his knowledge in Potions, as it was the only subject they shared with the Gryffindors. He made Crabbe and Goyle laugh forcefully with him at Harry whenever he answered a question wrong. Theodore went up to Bla5se, and a girl named Pansy Parkinson. "Can I sit with you? I think that my friend… " he looked at Draco and sighed, "… has lost it." Blase looked like he couldn't bother much, but made some space for him to sit.

"What is wrong with him?" Pansy asked.

"Well, Harry Potter rejected his friendship, so he is trying to make him regret it."

"That" Pansy pointed to where the three boys were shaking with laughter, "is a really lame way to do it."

"I know. He's my friend, I'll try to talk to him. But let me hang out with you for the time being."

Theodore became friends with Blase and Pansy. When he was not with Draco, he was with Blase. One day, when they were sitting at the Slytherin table, Draco got some packages of sweets from home, which he opened gloatingly, so that even the Gryffindors could listen, especially one Gryffindor.

Pansy glared at Theodore, who just ignored her. She sighed and grabbed Draco by his collar. "What-"

"Listen Malfoy, I get that it hurt your ego, but you have to stop this right now."

"What are you talking about, Parkinson?"

"You are embarrassing yourself and our House."

Draco looked at Theodore, who sprang some weird conversation about swimming in the black lake using Broomsticks with Blase.

"Don't look at him. You are a Slytherin, Draco Malfoy. If you want a revenge on Potter, do it properly. Get him in detention or something and get over it. Stop acting like a fool around him."

Draco freed himself from Pansy's grip. "Don't ever...touch me again.", he said coldly, "Crabbe, Goyle, Lets go."

When Pansy just stared at Draco leaving, Theodore went to her and said , "Don't worry Pansy, I'll talk to him"

She rolled her eyes and said, "That's the first time I heard you saying that. And no need. I think he got what I was saying." she smirked.

Draco understood what Pansy said. He was behaving oddly in front of Potter, so he stopped doing that and went back to his elegant manners, but he also stopped talking to Theodore. He never talked to Pansy and Blase before, so it didn't matter to them that much as it did to Theodore.

"Are you going to sulk everyday now?" Blaise asked Theodore one morning when Draco was in the showers.

"He never stopped talking to me before. He never even got mad at me before. He was always mad at Vincent for being an idiot, but he didn't stop talking to him because of that. He just hexed him and got on with it. Why is he not taking to me?" Theodore asked with a sad face.

"Have you tried asking him that question?

"Yes, I have! He just ignores me."

"He'll come around. Let's go, Today we have our first flying lesson."

Both of them made their way out to the great hall.

"Draco loves flying. He never stops talking about it."

"Why are you even friend with him?" Blase asked, a little frustrated by him, "He doesn't even care about his friends with whom he is talking at the moment"

"First, if you're talking about Crabbe and Goyle, they are not his friends. They are merely someone who follows him around and carries his books for him. Second, he is my friend from a time we both don't even remember. And third, He cares about me. I remember when we were around seven, our fathers had some work in Africa, so his mother took us to a picnic there and we both somehow got lost in a forest, and it got really dark. I was drinking water from a river we found and suddenly a Nundu came behind me. It must have smelled are scents. But before it could attack me, Draco jumped in between me and that of Nundu to save me. He unconsciously made a protective shield around us, so that its breath couldn't get to us. Luckily his mother got there at time and attacked it, but Draco passed out. Since then he fears forests at nighttime, don't tell him I told you. He doesn't like to talk about his weaknesses. Well, no one really does. The point I'm trying to make is, he really is my best friend, and he won't talk to me." Theodore asked, grabbing Blase by his shoulder.

"Okay! Okay. I get it. He is your best friend."Blase freed himself from his grip. "Don't worry, He will come around eventually."

Flying lesson- in just fifteen minutes, Neville Longbottom somehow managed to break his wrist. Madam Hooch took him to the Hospital wing.

"What an Idiot", Blase said. Draco burst into laughter. "Did you see his face, the great lump?" other Slytherins started laughing too.

"Shut up, Malfoy," Parvati Patil snapped.

"Ooh, sticking up for Longbottom?" Pansy said, "Never thought you'd like fat little crybabies, Parvati."

"Look!" Draco pointed "It's that stupid thing Longbottom's gran sent him."

"Give that here, Malfoy," Harry hissed. 'Yeah that will not happen.' Draco thought and smiled "I think I'll leave it somewhere for Longbottom to find — how about — up a tree?"

"Give it here!" Harry yelled.

Draco took a flight, "Come and get it, Potter!"

Harry followed him up "Give it here, or I'll knock you off that broom!" "Oh, yeah?" said Malfoy

"No Crabbe and Goyle up here to save your neck, Malfoy," Harry called.

'He thinks I need those two to save me' he thought. Suddenly he saw Professor McGonagall walking behind Harry.

"Catch it if you can, then!" he shouted and threw the remembrall high into the air and streaked back toward the ground. Harry dived to catch the ball just in time.

"HARRY POTTER!" Professor McGonagall came running towards them. "Never — in all my time at Hogwarts — how dare you — might have broken your neck —"

"It wasn't his fault, Professor —"

"Be quiet, Miss Patil —"

"But Malfoy —"

"That's enough, Mr. Weasley. Potter, follow me, now." Harry caught sight of Draco looking happy with himself.

"Well done, Malfoy. I taught you well." Pansy said.

"Yeah, sure." Draco said sarcastically.

In the evening, Draco returned to his dorms, not feeling happy at all. He was confused, shouldn't get Potter in detention make him happy. To get his mind off, he decided to finish his homework.

It was dinnertime when he heard Blase and Theodore enter the dorm. He put his book and quill aside and went outside the dorm. This was the reason he was not feeling happy. His best friend just abandoned him and made new friends. He went to the Great Hall and saw Potter and Weasley sitting at the Gryffindor table. He thought, 'Potter must have got detention. I might as well have some enjoy it.' He went up to them. "Having a last meal, Potter? When are you getting the train back to the Muggles?"

"You're a lot braver now that you're back on the ground, and you've got your little friends with you," said Harry coolly.

'What is he talking about', Draco thought."I'd take you on anytime on my own. Tonight, if you want. Wizard's duel. Wands only — no contact. What's the matter? Never heard of a wizard's duel before, I suppose?"

"Of course he has," Ron said "I'm his second, who's yours?"

Draco looked at Crabbe and Goyle behind him, sizing them up. 'When did they both get here?' "Crabbe," Draco said. "Midnight all right? We'll meet you in the trophy room; that's always unlocked."

He proceeded to the Slytherin table. "Since when were you following me?" he asked the other boys.

"We were in the common room when we saw you leave the dorm, since then." Goyle replied. But Draco didn't bother to listen. His mind was too busy feeling betrayed by his best friend. He didn't show the feeling but he did feel jealous of the fact that Theodore made another friend. He finished his dinner and went back to his dorm. He saw Blase and Theodore talking about something. He ignored them and made his way up to his bed and went to sleep, forgetting that he just challenged Harry Potter to a duel sometime ago.
